I hope Angieslist would do its better screening and won't suggest such a of kind service to us.
Description of Work: The plumber goes through my bath, kitchen and water heater and then told me there is nothing wrong and he left. The whole process is about 30 minutes. I expected the plumber could ,at least, tell me that any part easy goes wrong, where should I pay attention for maintenance, or some tips to do this. But there was nothing like that. I think I spent $79 for nothing and i won't do any such a inspection again.I hope Angieslist would do its better screening and won't suggest such a of kind service to us.

Toilet tune up ? good money flushed down the drain. Offering a toilet tune-up seemed odd when I first saw the email offer. After all, who ever does this? We attend to our toilets when they go wrong, not when they work as designed. Then my toilet went wrong. I heard water leaking. I took off the top of the tank, and did the usual fiddling, checked the flap ? it was fine, having recently been replaced ? and the float. Still water kept running. So I had to turn off the water at the base until I figured it out. Not 15 minutes later, I saw the Angie?s list offer for a ?toilet tune-up? for $75. Given that I did not want to spend a whole lot more time figuring this out, it seemed like the right solution for the problem. I scanned the details, and figured that the plumber that came would take care of it. After all, what was this for. I made an appointment the next day with TITAN PLUMBING & HEATING, but had to wait 10 days with no functioning toilet for the serviceman to come. The fellow arrived, looked at the problem, and told me it wasn?t covered by the ?tune up?. He then showed me explicitly what was covered, and said that those actions were all he was authorized to do. I asked him what it would take to fix the problem. He identified it a malfunctioning fill valve, which he said needed to be replaced. But, he could not do it as part of this visit. This in spite of the fact that the offer included: Inspecting and adjusting the fill valve. So I assumed if it was not working, that should be a part of the service, but clearly the offer was limited to only inspecting it. He checked in with his company, and wrote me up a quote for about $250. And I would need to make another appointment to have it done ? probably another 10 days. Well, I was totally shocked and dismayed by this. Here I thought I had the perfect solution to the problem, only to find out not only that it was not going to be fixed on that visit, but also I would have to shell out more than three times that amount for the actual repair. The two payments together would exceed what I actually had paid for the toilet itself. I told him I thought it was a totally rip off, and he apologized (a very nice fellow) and left ? not even completing the actual tune up steps ? which, by the way, were unnecessary given that this was not going to get me a properly functioning toilet. Instead of agreeing to pay another $250 and waiting another week or 10 days, I went to the local hardware and picked up the part for $7.75 plus tax. It took me all of 5 minutes to unscrew the original from the toilet and replace it with the new one. And voila, I had a running toilet again. That?s what I expected to get done from the original visit. But clearly that was not going to happen. So that leads me to wonder what this was all about. Here I thought I was a perfect candidate, with a leaking toilet, taking advantage of an offer worth, allegedly, $249, for about 1/3 of that value. So who would take advantage of it if their toilet is actually working? I?ve never seen this offered as a service in my entire life. I mean, $249 is the real value of a less-than-useful and unnecessary service? Give me a break! So it must be good only for 1. people who don?t fully read the offer and get snookered like I was. 2. people who have a leaky toilet because of the flap that they have no other means of fixing because they are either inept or would not find a handyman or other person to take care of this ? in about five minutes. 3. people who are have money to blow on a service they have absolutely no need for. They would probably sign up next to have their toilet paper dispenser ?tuned up?. The Angie?s List company would check to see if it?s in the wall right; not wobbly when used; the roller does not stick; and so on. I imagine seeing this soon as an Angie?s list promotion, also worth $250, for only $75. So what do I think should have happened? Two options: 1. Given that I bought the offer it with a real problem to solve, the service person could have fixed it as part of a tune up. That is what I expected, since the fill valve was part of what was addressed in the tune up. 2. Given that the offer was really restricted, the repairman could have offered to fix it on the spot for an added small fee. After all, another back and forth trip would not be needed. And, being a plumber here to deal with a toilet, one would assume he would have such a part ? it was a common item, costing less that $8.00 retail, available at any hardware or plumbing supply shop. Instead, my only choice with this company was another appointment at an additional $250 +/-. Given this, I can only conclude that this offer was a come on designed not to be of any real service, but to create new business, at an additional much higher cost, and with an additional wait. That is not what I imagined such offers are about. This is a Groupon type of offer. I use Groupons a lot, with the understanding that I get something of value at a lower price than usually charged ? be it a product or service. And that is the case. Groupons are a way for businesses to build visibility and new customers. But here, it was not that. It was designed to provide no useful service (except perhaps to someone with a leaky flapper unable to change it themselves). It identified a problem with a part that was inspected, but offered no opportunity to fix it either in a timely way or without shelling out a lot more money for a return visit. The fact that the company was right there and never offered to fixit it at the time is totally reprehensible. For this reason, I conclude this offer was a total sham and a rip off essentially. It brings total dishonor to what I thought Angie?s List was about when I subscribed to it. It totally stains any reputability it advertises as the essence of what Angie?s List is about. Going forward, I won?t trust Angie?s list now. You got my $75, and that?s the price I paid to find out that this is the most reprehensible type of service I can imagine getting, and unimaginable that this comes from, of all sources, Angie's List.

I am sorry you feel this way. To any and all customers please read any and all coupons prior to purchasing!!!!! As for the cost for repair and parts you purchased at a hardware store. We do not use hardware store parts, The price quoted to you was for manufacturer replacement parts, Which we would need to order then pick up at a our supplier. Return to your residence to install and of course Warranty the part and installation against any future issues. Titan could not ethically install and warranty "hardware parts" and still be considered professionals in our trade. .This review is quite shocking to me. I suggest the member contact Angie's List to request a refund, An all F review really hurts our companies reputation. However I am not sure what we could have done to satisfy the member due to his lack of understanding the coupons content. I apologize for the misunderstanding. We do not wish to create issues by signing up for and providing the Big Deal coupons. Tim Cossette Owner Titan Plumbing & Heating Inc.

Scheduling and the inspection were well done. 50 year old house, nice to find out what's down there. They were much too eager to sell a $15,000 total replacement of the line. Scare tactics. A complete turn-off. They get a low mark because of the hard sell and scare tactics to sell replacing the line. They would not consider relining the pipe. A few months earlier Angie's List magazine had a story on how relining is a good solution.
Description of Work: Purchased an Angie's List Big Deal inspection of the main house drain line. They open the clean out plug and push a small camera down the drain line till it joins with the sewer line in the street.

We do not use scare tactics! We provide options to fix your problems, and never try to force anyone to do anything. Our invoice states that we recommended repair/replacement of pipe, that's it. We do not re-line pipes due to a number of reasons: 1) It does not correct bad pitch or separated piping. 2) It doesn't always work, and we do not want to try and inevitably have to dig anyways. We fix it right, and warranty it! 3) The equipment costs are incredibly high and Titan does not see value in providing a band aid approach for such an important part to your plumbing system. The Big Deal you purchased was a great value. Now you know what the piping looks like. Yes, we try to sell our service and sometimes it is expensive. I wish you luck in the future and hope whoever fixes the issue does it correctly. Tim Cossette Owner Titan Plumbing and Heating

They did the job well. The old faucet was stuck and they removed it without damaging the counter tops, the hot water valve was leaking and they fixed it without an additional surcharge. They took time answering all our questions and made appropriate recommendation regarding work that we may want to consider on our plumbing system (but without being pushy).

UPDATE: In an attempt to substantiate or refute my feeling that Titan?s price for this job was high, I decided to solicit two additional bids for this work after the repairs had been completed. I was dismayed to find out that Titan?s prices are substantially higher than the competition, with the competing bids coming in at $4500 and $5500. To determine exactly what I had gained in paying a 3x premium for their services, I contacted my town?s regulatory agencies to inquire about the permits and inspections required for this work. I was sickened to discover that Titan had not obtained any of the requisite permits or inspections. Furthermore, they chose to circumvent these governmental requirements despite me specifically asking whether they would handle acquiring all of the necessary permits and despite specific language in the contract that stated, ?Price includes all labor, materials, removal, disposal, warranties, permits, inspections .? Since I am not familiar with local plumbing codes, I feel that the town inspection was my only protection against improper work, and now I am seriously questioning what, if anything, Titan was trying to hide, and whether I should expect to encounter problems with the repairs that they made. While Titan?s work did pass common-sense quality evaluations (quality materials, neat work, improvement over the previous situation, downhill flow), I cannot endorse a company that apparently egregiously over-charges its customers while ignoring governmental regulations and disregarding the terms of their contracts. Pending an adequate explanation and appropriate restitution from Titan for their non-compliance with regulatory and contractual obligations, I will not be using their services again. Shortly after a sewer backup on Memorial Day caused a minor flood in my home and necessitated paying the emergency holiday rate for a main sewer line clean out from another company, I received an email from Angie's List with a coupon for $49 sewer camera inspections offered by Titan Plumbing & Heating. I decided to purchase two of these coupons to have both of sewer lines on my property inspected. Two employees from Titan arrived on the morning of June 18, 2012 to perform the camera inspections, arriving shortly after the agreed upon appointment time. However, one of the workers did call to inform me that they were en route but had encountered some traffic. Their slightly late arrival did not pose any inconvenience and the phone call to update me on their whereabouts was greatly appreciated. Inspection of the first line, which connects the garage to the main house and is only used minimally, revealed root infiltration and a dislodged connection. Inspection of the second line, which connects the main house to the town sewer system, showed multiple improper connections, one dislodged connection, and that the depth of the pipe was too shallow for the first ~30 ft out from the house. Titan recommended excavation and repair of both sewer lines and provided estimates of $2,000 and $15,000 for the garage-to-house and house-to-town sewer lines, respectively. While these prices seemed exorbitant to me, I did not feel that I had the luxury of obtaining multiple estimates to determine if Titan's quote was competitive. Other construction and landscaping projects at my home were scheduled to begin three weeks after the date of the camera inspections, and the shallowness of the house-to-town sewer line posed a serious problem to these other projects. Titan indicated that they would be able to complete the work within that three week period, so I decided to proceed with the excavation and repair of the house-to-town sewer line only. The repair work was schedule for July 2, 2012 and representatives from Titan and the excavation company arrived promptly at the agreed upon time. The excavation work proceed slowly at first because it turned out that the problems with this sewer line were much more serious than the camera inspection could have indicated. The sewer line turned out to be an incomprehensible maze of mismatched and poor quality pipes with several unnecessary angles and joints. Ultimately, the old sewer line was completely removed and a new trench was dug at the proper depth in a straight path to tie in with the town sewer system. The new drain was assembled from higher quality pipes with a minimal number of proper connections, the trench was backfilled, and the ground was regraded. All of this work was completed in one day, which minimized any inconvenience posed by the temporary disconnection of the sewer. Despite the price, I was impressed with the quality of the work performed by Titan and that they were able to complete the work within a relatively short time-frame. I would definitely consider using the services of Titan Plumbing & Heating in the future.
Description of Work: Titan Plumbing & Heating conducted camera inspections of two sewer lines on our property. The inspections revealed root infiltration and a dislodged connection in the first sewer line and improper and dislodged connections in the second sewer line. Titan then excavated and replaced the second sewer line.

I purchased a $49.00 coupon for televised scoping of the sewer system because we had been experiencing some slow drainage. Titan came and ran the camera in, and it was very obvious right away what the problem was--there was approximately 10' of very old pipe between the house and the new PVC that was installed when the system was changed from septic to town sewer. That piece had all kinds of dents and bends in it from rocks, etc. Titan gave us an estimate the next day to repair the pipe. They returned two weeks later, dug up the pipe, replaced it, tested, filled the hole and even put most of the grass back on the dug up area all in about 4 1/2 hours. They were super nice, efficient, and did a great job! In random discussion with friends and family, it sounds like the price was a bit high and I could have gotten the work done a little cheaper, but I was very impressed with the timing and service.

Jason from Titan Plumbing came to do the "Whole House Plumbing Inspection" Angie's special. He highlighted a couple of problems and I asked for an estimate on replacing my old boiler, water heater, a new toilet as well as a 4 other smaller lumbing issues. I needed them all done the following week as I was on vacation. Titan accomodated me and the work was performed by Jason, Ken, and Paul. Jason being the main plumber and having the most experience. The work was done when promised and my bolier passed inspection by the Chelmsford plumbing inspector. I did have an issue. The brand new boiler did not work after it was installed. This was not due to Titan but due to a "bad" board that was probably damaged during transist. I was not happy with the situation. Jason was VERY proactive and got hold of the boiler company and got them to come to my house, troubleshoot and replace the bad board. This was all done within 24 hours of finding the issue. Although, I was not pleased with having an issue with a very expensive boiler, I was happy with Jason's support and sense of urgency. I can't say enough goog things about Jason DeMattia. Jason was very respomsie to all my needs and I could tell he truly cares to do quality work and tries to address any customer issue promptly and aggresively. I also found him to be a trustworthy individual. He did an outstanding job ! I highly recommend Jason and Titan Plumbing.
Description of Work: Titan Plumbing did a inspection of my house plumbing. I then engaged them to replaced a older boiler, water heater, a new toilet and various small plumbing issues that needed attention. A small team of plumbers (headed by Jason DeMattia) performed the work over 3 days.

Titan was called in to clear a bathroom drain. After working for 4-5 hours, the drain was finally opened. Jarod, the plumber from Titan, wanted to find out the cause for the backup. Using a camera, it was discovered that our sewer pipe was broken. Titan had all the necessary connections to have the yard excavated so they could replace the ruptured pipe. They handled all the necessary permits and communications with the town which made the experience somewhat less stressful. After the job, our yard was cleaned and reseeded before they left. If anyone encounters a similar problem, we would recommend they contact Titan for help.

Jared does a remarkable job of teaching as well as answering any questions. In the process of decision-making, particularly regarding the greatest expense item, the heating system, Jared sought to create opportunity to have us both pleasant to learn about the current system as well as options for replacement. I was particularly thankful for this, as I prefer to have both of us hear from the source (rather like having someone accompany you to a major medical appointment to be extra ears and eyes). The team did a remarkable job with installation as well as cleanup, within parameters originally estimated, and answering any questions i raised during the process. The politeness and responsiveness of every team or office member I have encountered in person, as well as in phone communications, is commendable. They engender trust. And we have never felt pressured to take any particular course of action. If you love your home and also want to understand its workings and why some solutions will help more than others, Titan is an excellent company to engage.
Description of Work: Please note service date and amount spent reflect approximations covering several appointments. The heating system (involved a top-line Ray burner and new water heater) involved around $20,000, excavation and repair appointment a little over $9,000; I can't recall total cost of our earlier appointments -- that would raise the total. We know people may think the costs too high, but we believe it is value-reflected and is worth it to care for our home. Desiring to take care of our home we first engaged Titan in response to a Big Deal offered by Angie's. From the start they were responsive to all our concerns. After the initial whole-house inspection, we engaged them to remedy a "nest" of outflow pipes improperly installed by/for previous homeowner(s), as well as remedy similar issues in bathrooms and kitchen. Later they replaced handles and connections for our washer.dryer faucets and replaced outdoor faucets, as well as relocating a valve on our water main pipe in the basement. We talked about possible replacement of obsolete 23-yr-old burner and old water heater. We engaged the yearly contract, and during this year's checkup in June (which included a "colonoscopy" of the house!) discovered a compromised outflow pipe leading to our septic system. The project necessitated removal of a section of wood fence bonded to wire fencing (for a previous owner's small dogs). Team and excavator arrived on time, completed well within time estimated, and Jared personally did finishing touches on smoothing upturned soil and stapling wire fencing that had been cut when wood section was removed to allow access for excavating equipment.

We bought the Big Deal for 2 toilets and were able to schedule that appointment easily. They came on time. Very little was done to the toilets and there is little difference in their operation. He recommended replacement of the toilets. He also tried to sell his company's annual service program. Our hot water heater had stopped heating the day before he came, so we also asked him about that. He told us our hot water heater needed replacing and gave a quote of $2876 dollars, and also recommended their 10 yr warranty plan costing $1890. We live in a 7 story condo with individual water heaters for each unit in a room on each floor. Each unit has a sticker for James Thompson Plumbing and Heating who have done most of the plumbing work in our building. The person from Titan told us Thompson had gone out of business! We knew this was not true. We called Thompson the next day and he came and repaired our tank for $250.Titan called the next day to see if we were going to have them replace the hot water heater. My husband told him that Thompson whom he had told us was out of business, would be coming that day to look at it and that we would not be dealing with Titan.
Description of Work: BEWARE! We paid $150 for 2 Big Deal "5 point toilet checks". Titan came and spent about 30 min for the total job with little difference in their performance which had been adequate..

I bought the Big Deal offered for one hour of plumbing service. The company that originally offered it pulled out of the deal, and Titan Plumbing took all those clients. When the nice young employee got to my home, he informed me that he could only unclog ONE sink. I was confused, as I had purchased an hour of service and certainly it didn't take him one hour to unclog my bathtub. He called his employer and told him the problem and the employer stuck with his story of ONE SINK. They were not offering the one hour of work that I bought, just one service for the price.I phoned Angie's List and they told me that Titan would come and do ONE MORE SINK for the money and I had no other option but to accept this, as the "billing" is different at Titan than at the original company that offered the BIG DEAL. This should have never been my problem to begin with , as what I bought was not what I received and that is a breech of contract. Titan NEVER CALLED ME BACK TO SCHEDULE THE OTHER SINK! No follow up from Angie's List or from Titan. That deserves a "F" for service and for product.I would suggest not using this vendor for anything. There are honest plumbers out there. Although the service employee was very nice, the biggest problem I had with him is that he tried to "upsell" me a product that he "just happened to have in his truck and he only had "2 more bottles" of this miracle powder that one can put in their drains and it will keep them from clogging. Really? I know lots of plumbers and they all say that if that worked, they would be out of a job.

Response from Titan Plumbing & Heating
I am appalled to receive this report. However it is my fault that this report has happened and I accept its recourse. It all started when Gordon, from the Angie’s List Big Deal department, called and asked me to help with a big problem. Another “honest” plumber signed up for a big deal promotion. It sold a bunch of deals, but the plumber decided to void his contract and not perform the coupon service. Therefore, all the customers who purchased this coupon were stuck without a plumber to perform the service. I agreed to help and take over the contract. I was reluctant to help due to the fact that Titan is a flat rate company. This means we charge by the job not by the hour. This particular deal was an hourly type with a total amount and savings built into the deal. We did perform the deal, dollar for dollar. It however, was done in less than the hour on the coupon. This customer did not believe our technician when he tried to describe the situation. My technician called me and I then decided to contact Gordon to discuss the issue. Both Gordon and I decided that Titan would snake the second drain for free due to the confusion of the coupon vs. our type of business. I was told that the customer would call us to schedule at her convenience. I never heard anything about this from the customer, until this report. We are honest plumbers, how else could we have an A average in plumbing on Angie’s List? The magic powder that she speaks of is Bioclean. It is a drain maintenance powder that does work! Check it out online to decide for yourself if it is something you would use. I actually use it monthly at my own home and I have seen great results. I made a bad decision to accept and help with these deals, due to the fact that we are flat rate and how we run our business vs. the coupon specifications. I have to ask please look at all of our reports before you judge how Titan provides service to customers. Yes we do try to sell our products and services. The coupons are a great bargain at $49.00, however our company could not survive with rates that low. Every company that runs specials is trying to win new sales and longtime clients. Now that is honesty at its finest. Remorsefully, Tim Cossette Owner Titan Plumbing and Heating Inc.

Our line was almost spotless. We knew it had been converted to PVC <15 years ago so expected it to be decent. However, Jeremy said it was the cleanest he had ever seen. We spared him having to do the cleaning step. Overall I'm glad Titan came, but we ended up not getting an outstanding deal because the inspection was all that was needed.

He came out to clean. He said I did not need them cleaned, but I wanted them cleaned. He did not do much of anything the whole time he was here. He just tried to sell me a service policy. I ended up getting some products to clean them myself.
Description of Work: He was going to come out to clean the drains in the toilet, sink, and bathtub. I purchased a Big Deal 59% drain cleaning and more.

The work was fine but I just don't like the technician because he did not listen to me and all he wanted was to sell a contract. I came to know them through Angie's List but I would not recommend them at all.

We have a 1-pipe steam system that has been running off an oil fired boiler for the past 40+ years. We had a number of contractors come and look at our setup in order to select the right guys for the job. Jared showed up on time to the estimate appointment and examined the entire system thoroughly before providing feedback on what work should be done. It is obvious that Jared knows steam systems very well, as he was able to point out some errors in the current system and walked me through the installation process in detail as we reviewed the proposal. When discussing the system he made it sound like a steam heating system is incredibly complicated to work with and he is the only guy qualified for this type of work. Also, it took a while to get just the installation cost as it was lumped into overall packages that included multi-year service contracts. I have no doubt that if we used Titan the job would have been done correctly, but at the end of the day we ended up selecting another highly qualified contractor to complete this job since Titan's price was the highest quote we received.

Thanks for the report. Hopefully you have a proper steam installation. Sorry to say, more companies install it wrong rather than right. Check out heatinghelp.com to see what we mean. Best regards.

This was a special sanitary sewer line televising deal for $49. We were having no problems that I was aware of, but the cost was low, and the inspection seemed a good idea. I watched the televising procedure and was shown that there was some pooled water in one section of the line and a discontinuity further out. The technician indicated that this was a serious and urgent matter, that I was fortunate that there had been no back-up already which would have necessitated an expensive cleaning out and deodorizing of the basement and perhaps temporary evacuation of the house. He advised that we proceed immediately with repairs, which would necessitate cutting through the concrete basement floor and replacing the sewer line at least as far as the outer perimeter of the basement where the discontinuity appeared to be located. His rough estimate of cost was between $16,000 and $18,000. If work needed to extend beyond the house the cost would be greater. The eventual cost would also depend to some extent on the length of warranty I wished to purchase; the work carried with it a one-year warranty and longer warranties entailed additional cost. He spent some time writing what I thought was a detailed estimate, and we discussed possible dates when the work might be done. When I stated that I wished to think about it and asked that he leave an estimate, he was clearly not pleased, and indicated that it was not company policy to leave written estimates; I might use the estimate to get a lower price from another provider. I was feeling pressured and was not willing to make an immediate commitment, and stated that I would telephone him with my decision the following day. He indicated that by then the tentative time for the work might be taken, resulting in further delay. The following day I informed him of my decision not to proceed.

Titan's Big Deal was a great opportunity to see if anything was encroaching on the sanitary line to the street. Jared arrived a little bit early but called first to make sure that was OK. The set-up, the scoping, and the clean-up were all done quickly and efficiently. I now know that the line is free and clear all that way. This is a big relief for me. Titan is my first choice for all plumbing and HVAC concerns that I may have.
Description of Work: Titan's service tech, Jared, ran a video camera from the furthest drain in my house almost all the way to the street connection. About 200'. This is a long run which was installed over 10 years ago.
