The new-to-us-home suffered utter neglect in many areas, including the grounds. Ground cover was plant wherever grass could've been to avoid maintenance. That part was overgrown and probably home to all kinds of insects and select vermin. A centerpiece magnolia tree was so overgrown that it was 10-15' taller than the house and almost as wide, and its roots were killing almost everything planted nearby its trunk. Everything was removed, an irrigation vendor was called in and sod was laid that, one year later, is the envy of my neighbors. All of this comes at a price of course, and Walsh isn't cheap by any means, but we do see him driving by from time to time to check the work of his people. There's value in that, too. Walsh is licensed to apply chemicals and fertilizers so it's one-stop shopping that makes his service attractive.
Description of Work: Total landscaping of newly acquired home.

It turned out to be a disaster. They did an okay job. They didn't do a great job. They left hand prints on my house, from the mulch that they laid. I only used them for that one service. They came out at another point and started performing another service on my lawn that I never asked for or ordered or anything. I had never agreed upon it. The service they performed is called aeration, where they punch holes in the lawn. They punctured our sprinkler system and our dog fence, which caused us to have to do repairs. We never ordered the service. We told them to stop. Then, they sent us a bill for that. It was ridiculous. It was not a pleasant experience.
Description of Work: I used them very specifically for a clean up.

He is fast and timely. We have used him in the past. We had tried a couple of different landscapers in the past but weren't happy with them. So we decided to go back with him. He always does a good job. We will probably use them again in the future.
Description of Work: He put new shrubs around our house.

The workers were great, very nice and friendly, and they did an excellent job. When I received the bill, however, it was $90 higher than the estimate, which I had thought was a firm price. When I questioned the owner about this, he unhappily agreed to accept the estimated price.

Click here to listen to the epic meltdown Frank Walsh left on my voicemail! Don’t forget your popcorn! http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1za0f8_frankwalsh_fun Weirdly, there are a few landscapers in the Boston area named Frank Walsh, so I’ll be very specific to spare the innocent. The offender is the owner of Walsh Landscaping in Stoneham, MA. This guy: · walsh-landscaping.com · frankmwalsh@yahoo.com · 781.438.0706 · Mobile: 781.844.4626 I guess he does snow removal, hardscaping, masonry, and lawn maintenance too. Anyways, I wasn’t impressed from the beginning. He didn’t listen. When I spoke, he walked away. Even when he spoke, he walked away! Annoying. I made a rough sketch of the landscape work I was thinking about to help communicate. He wasn’t interested. He was a loud blow-hard, too. Always moving around and never engaging in conversation. He had a “king-s***” air about him. I don’t remember him asking me any questions. I guess that makes sense since King S*** Landscapers already know what’s good for their customers and don’t need to ask about their ideas and preferences. He’d start scoffing and bloviating when something I said didn’t suit him. He’s sloppy. His 3 estimates (one for each area of my property) came with a scrawled “diagram” which looked like it took 30 seconds to draw. Each took me a good 10 minutes to figure out. I gave up on one. This might not indicate a careless work ethic…could be a neurological disorder. I didn’t ask. All this gave the impression that he viewed me as a necessary evil…just the idiot with the money. Anyways, I would have kicked him to the curb day one if it weren’t for his partner and my wife. His partner the plant supplier listened to me and added his own good ideas. When he thought one of my ideas wasn’t hitting the mark (I’m not a landscaper after all) he talked to me about it and had suggestions ready. You know, we COLLABORATED. He acted as if we were in this TOGETHER. Frank’s partner behaved like a seasoned professional who wanted and appreciated my business. Revolutionary! So we proceeded with Frankie-boi past the estimate phase. My wife wanted to get the landscaping done since winter was coming and spending time getting different estimates and to find the landscaper who gives you the warm fuzzy takes time. Besides, he was a recommendation. How bad could he be, right? You’ll see! The next weekend, we ran into this perfect ornamental tree for super cheap at Northeast Nursery. We’d been looking for months for the right tree so we bought it before someone else did. It was one $250 plant out of a $3-5 thousand dollar project. To update Frank, I left a voicemail for him on Monday morning telling him not to worry about this one tree. He called me back and he completely lost it over this tree! He was so out of control I fired him on the spot. He hung up on me but then I guess he decided he wasn’t done so he called me back. I didn’t pick up so he continued with his epic freak-out on voicemail…now saved for all eternity. They did something but they put a lot of plants that did not work out in the area. I told them that we have a lot of sun in our area but they installed some plants that could not respond to the sun like they were burnt out because the sun was too strong; but they have well intentions and well meaning.

Provider (Sean) was scheduled to come out for a job estimate on 8/8/13 between 4:45PM and 5:00 and didn't show up. Called Frank, the original contact, on 8/8/13 at 5:20 (after the no-show) and haven't heard back yet.

When I called for an estimate for weekly mowings, I received a prompt response. Frank told me over the phone that weekly mowings would be $40.00, but if my lawn was to be mowed every other week then he would charge $45.00 for bi-weekly cuts. He said that in May and June the grass would be growing too fast for bi-weekly mowings. I agreed to weekly mowings, but am not being charged the stated price. I have called the office on three separate occasions, but have not received a return call. I know that Walsh Landscaping is highly rated so am very surprised at this. There was other work that I was interested in having done, but have not been able get through to discuss it. I did speak to a young man in the office about a month ago and told him that there was a mistake on my bill and he told me that he would discuss it with Frank and get back to me. I have no idea if he ever conveyed my message, but there has been no reply to a voicemail message that I left last week either. I intend to pay what I owe, but only the agreed upon amount. I would like to know if Walsh Landscaping will continue to cut my lawn for no more than $40.00 per visit. I did mention that I am an Angieslist member and expected to receive the Angieslist discount. I've always been impressed by work done by Walsh Landscaping so when I saw that there was a 10% discount, hiring them was a no-brainer. I really felt that the amount billed was a mistake until I received a second bill now I'm not so sure. I'm still hoping to receive a corrected bill.

Frank responded immediately to my request for an estimate. He came and walked the yard the day before our appointment and came fully prepared with his estimate and a time schedule to do the work, this was 2 days after my original inquiry. Time was scheduled for the following week and the crew actually arrived 2 days early, with a bobcat, trucks, crew and equipment. Work was completed in the 1 day promised time frame. Not only was I completely satisfied with the final results but multiple neighbors came over to tell me that they were amazed with the end result.
Description of Work: Complete yard clean up which had not been done in over 3 years. Cleaning garden areas, pruning many bushes/trees, removing invasive species ie Chinese Bamboo and Bittersweet, in a very large areas.

Frank was very thorough in his estimate. He explained what he would do, how much mulch was needed, and the approximate cost of the services.
Description of Work: Provided an estimate for spring cleaning, mulching, and trimming of bushes
We have used Walsh Landscaping for many years. This was a job we had kept pushing out but finally decided to do. We feel that it enhances the perceived value of our house and are happy with the work that Walsh did. They are not the cheapest around but their work is excellent...you get what you pay for!

Walsh Landscaping sent 3 guys over to 'spring clean' my lawn and yard in preparation for a birthday party I was throwing the following weekend. The guys were professional, courteous, asked question if they were uncertain of something, and were appreciative when I bought them sandwiches for lunch! The yard looked beautiful! The only faux pas were a couple handprints on my siding from the brown mulch - didn't come off easily, but Frank Walsh himself came over and took care of it. Looking forward to using them next year.
