Our initial experience with the company in May went fairly well, although the actual price was more than $500 than what was quoted, and they needed it in cash. However, the moving crew was wonderful, service was great and they were flexible when things popped up. Since the crew knew our furniture, we decided to use them again for a final move in Sept. Apparently, the same level of care and service does not apply to the management of Father and Son. I have emailed Nick 4 times asking if the same crew is available for a move in September and all I have received back is a quote (without having information on what we now have). After repeated attempts to contact Nick, I am giving up and DO NOT recommend this company to anyone. Too bad because the guys who performed the actual service were great.
Description of Work: First move was from a house to interim, small apartment with storage in garage. Second 'attempt' to move was from apt. to permanent house.

We used these guys for a local move and they were terrible! I was quoted a 3-hour move for our 2-bedroom apartment and when the 3-man crew arrived, the supervisor tried to tell me the move would take 8 hours! I told him no way that was true. Our last movers did the job with the same stuff in four hours - and there were only two of them. It ended up taking 5 hours - costing us over 900.00- 300.00 over the estimate. To move us 1.5 miles! Plus, the supervisor was rude and condescending all day until we settled up and he asked me to give them a good review. Also, the two other guys talked on their cell phones while they were "working" and when they had me come check a room there were still boxes and things like a fan, step stool, etc. to move. "Is there anything else in here you want us to move?" Um, YES! I have written to Nick, the person I was talking to in the office and he has not responded to my complaints. I doubt he ever will. Do not use this company unless you don't care about them trying to stick you for more money than the work is worth. The
Description of Work: They came to our apartment, loaded their truck with our boxes and furniture (no appliances), drove to our new apartment only 1.5 miles away, and then unloaded the truck. We moved from one two-bedroom apartment to another in the same city in Massachusetts.

In the end everything was delivered safely. However it is all over the place. Boxes that were marked "attic" are in the kitchen, and 1 week later I still can't find my everyday dishes. The stress was unnecessary. In their defense they dealt with bad weather, and a lot of stuff. I attribute a lot of the problem to the sales team, who wouldn't even let me speak with them on the phone when we had issues, they insisted on going through the foreman. I don't know if there is an honest moving company out there. I had another bad experience years ago with a separate company, when the truck was 14' instead of 18', and I had to leave stuff behind in a different state! Moral to the story: Be VERY VERY careful whom you choose, and get everything in writing, and be sure you find out about hidden costs, and actual dimensions of the truck. When you move, you're stuck: they have you by the boxes, and you have to leave.
Description of Work: The movers arrived on schedule. I had ordered a large truck, and was promised the largest in their fleet. We have a full household and piano. The first words out of the mover's mouth when he arrived -- "This will take two or three trips." WHAT? I got on the phone immediately with sales, who were difficult to reach. We wasted 1/2 hour figuring out why the truck wasn't the large 18-wheeler I was expecting and I was still billed that time. Turns out they only use THOSE trucks when you go interstate. Really? Bottom line: The sales people were not straight with me when I made the order. They gave me an hourly rate, and don't tell you it's really 10% higher for "fuel surcharge." There is also time-1/2 additional over 8 hours. You pay cash only. So they won't give you your stuff if you don't have all the additional cash at 11pm because they were not straight in the first place. This move was horrific. Although the leader of the 3-man team definitely knew what he was doing, and was trying to keep it cool, at first he was ready to walk out because I got upset at the bad news about the truck and # of trips. Once things calmed down, they were very fast-moving (good) and organized. The other two were doing their best, but were under-experienced. It is incredibly hard work and I felt for them, but still they made me nervous, especially as there was yelling around heavy objects a lot of the time. It also seemed like it took much longer than it should have, largely because they had to do geometry with the truck to fit our stuff. It ended up being over 2 days and cost me 2x than I had budgeted for.

Booked through an agency and they were a little rough to deal with. The crew arrived early. One member was great. The other two were so-so. They were rough with our stuff. All of them were nice enough, but certainly trying to work the tip angle a little too hard. Cash only business which is tough when you are paying by the hour and while unloading they stop near the end to collect (e.g. using your stuff as collateral). There are lots of extra charges - travel time, fuel surcharge, etc. Overall, fine, but we have had better experiences with other moving companies.

It was easy to work with in terms of the time and dates. It was nice compared to other movers because they just needed a verbal contract; I spoke to them over the phone and they agreed to move the piano. It was very easy to arrange. They kept in contact with the person from whom I was getting the piano, and when they were showing up later than expected, they kept contact open and told us about how things were going. They brought it into the house and did not break anything. The only complaint I had was that they had to take my door off because they had to get the piano through the front door; it was just a minor complaint. Other than that, it was good. They were very professional and did the job. After having worked with a few other companies, I really appreciated their work. They made the whole deal over the phone and were very courteous through the negotiation. I would rate them highly and would use them again in the future if necessary.
Description of Work: I used Father & Son Moving & Storage to move a piano 10 miles from one house to another.
