Affordable Chimney Sweeps

Insurance was paying for these repairs, so there were a lot of questions and "back and forth" to deal with. The people at Affordable Chimney Sweeps were very easy to work with and helped answer all the questions of the insurance company. When performing the work, they were very prompt and professional. They also worked to minimize the dust / dirt in the house. I was very pleased with the outcome and will use them again!

The overall experience was painless. He showed up,on time. Knocked at the door, we exchanged a few pleasentries, he was respectful and curtious. I showed him where the chimney cleanout is and he went right to work. Some short time later he knocked on the door and we exchanged more pleasentries, I paid him and that was that. He did offer advise on how to maintain our chimney. I went downstairs to check on the place where he had been working. You never would have known he had been there. He did a fine job of cleaning up after himself.I do believe we will be calling them when the chimney needs attention again.

I called on 3/26 and got an appointment for the next day. Jeff from Affordable Chimney Sweeps came out and did a great job with the cleaning. The chimney hadn't been cleaned in 30 years and was a mess. Jeff explained exactly what needed to be done and went over the pricing with us. We will be planning a follow up cleaning cleaning as well as chimney cap with affordable.

Basic chimney inspection turned up additional work that should be done. Jason was clear about what the issues were and I got a follow-up proposal for additional work. I think the only negative is that they recommended while doing the inspection that I needed a new liner and couldn't do the sweep. When I asked for a rough ball park they indicated somewhere on the order of $8,000 for a new clay liner. I have since learned and confirmed with a nice lady from Affordable Chimney Sweeps who followed up on their proposal that could get a steel liner insert for much much less.

They did a great job, stuck to the estimate (which was competitively priced); all done with a friendly, helpful and knowledgeable approach. Thank you!

It was great. I am a new home owner and so was not aware of the procedure. The guy came, spread a sheet on the floor so that things in the house don't get dirty and started his work. He explained the process when I asked him about it. He was very polite. He performed 2 chimney sweeps since I have 2 fireplaces. He came on time and left as soon as the job was done. I was very pleased with the service offered.

The company was responsive to my inquiry, and set up a very timely appointment, saying they were sending over one of their best men to inspect our chimneys and sweep them, if necessary. Since it had been many years since these chimneys had been swept, and they are used constantly for oil burning furnaces, everyone I contacted said that for sure they would need cleaning. I also informed them that I wanted an informed opinion/inspection to see if I could get two fireplaces to work, and what that would cost. I was happy that the serviceman showed up promptly right at the scheduled time, and was ready to work. He assumed there were two chimneys to sweep and was ready to begin, when I told him that I wanted an inspection and evaluation first, and the chimneys would be swept only after that evaluation. Fine, he proceeded to inspect the chimneys. Now, that consisted of taking mirror and looking up each chimney from the basement, after which he told me they were clean and didn't need sweeping--job done! He did look at the two fireplaces with me, said the dampers were "frozen shut" and that it would cost several thousand dollars to repair them. He also said I needed liners in each chimney. I asked for a detailed quote with various options in writing, which he said he would get to me the following week. That written estimate has never come. The man was here for all of 20 minutes maximum, and charged me over $100 for his time, even though he did nothing really. If I'd had the chimneys swept, then that inspection money would have been deducted from the sweeping fee, which I understood. But, he said the chimneys were clean, didn't need sweeping, so why pay for that. It makes me wonder at all the "experts" who said that these chimneys must need sweeping since it had been many years since they'd been swept, but that's another subject. My main disappointment was with the lack of follow up with a clear proposal and estimate, and lack of credibility that I felt from this $120 inspection. At the very least things weren't explained very well. UPDATE: Feb 18, 2013--The company contacted me, essentially admitted fault due to an employee that quit, and made an attempt to re-inspect the chimneys. Due to schedule conflicts and weather conditions, that inspection never really was able to take place, and the company refunded my money. Although I continue to have marginal faith in the expertise of this company, and believe they wasted lots of my time by not properly doing things right the first time--or even the second time--they did refund my money which speaks well for them and their basic integrity. They tried to make things right, at least. I would now rate them at least a C+ or B-. Thanks to Angie's list for giving me a feedback mechanism, and means to resolve the problem.

Phone call to office was answered promptly and appointment for the following week was available (no longer the busiest part of the season). Arrived within the 2-hour window. Very courteous. Completed the cleaning with no mess (vacuum continually on). $149 for first chimney and $139 for second chimney minus the 5% Angie's list discount. Seemed reasonably priced for the service. On the other hand, the task at hand took only about 20 minutes or so per chimney (8" metal chimney not brick/masonry). Total time was about an hour. Easy ones average out the harder ones. No issues and no pressure to buy any other services. Written recommendation is for yearly cleaning but if not used very regularly verbal conversation indicated a cleaning every two years will be fine. Willingness to say this makes me more likely to use again. I will use this company again.

The chimney didn't seem horrible but we were unsure how long it had been, and we hadn't had the chimney inspected when we bought it (and I hadn't really spent any time shining a flashlight up there to look at it). The guy was on time, friendly, and friendly to our crazy dog that insisted on checking him out. He inspected our chimney and confirmed that everything looked in good repair but it needed cleaning. He then went through and promptly cleaned it out and cleaned up after nicely. We'll definitely use them again when the time comes. We also got a quote for a cap but decided to skip it; there was no hard sales line and he was knowledgeable and friendly about it.

Work was begun on time and completed in a timely fashion. The workers didn't waste time and cleaned up very well after the job was done.

It all went extremely well. They showed up when they said they would, did a great job with no complications and left the place cleaner than it was when they arrived. Very pleased.

We called based on all the positive reviews on Angie's list - office staff very friendly, makes appt for a 2 hour timeframe on a Saturday. Technician shows up 45 minutes after the 2 hour window had closed without really any apologies or explanation or any attempt at contacting us to let us know. I also personally called the office and left a message to check where they were when he was 20 minutes late but did not hear back from them. We were going to send him away as we had somewhere to go but decided to just let him work. He seemed friendly enough, started trying to determine if he could do the job from the inside but then tells us that he has to do it from the roof but because it had snowed, he could not. He said the office would call us on Monday to reschedule..it is now Tuesday, no call from them as of yet. Needless to say, we've called another company to do the job. I would have been more upset if this had happened on a weekday and I had taken time out of work. I'm not sure what the deal was, based on other reviews, doesn't seem typical but I would not use them again. Updating review - After reading my negative review, the office called me with instructions from the owner to make it right and asked for me to give them another shot with a different technician. I agreed to allow them a 2nd chance especially given all the positive reviews here. I still cannot understand what kind of processes they have in place to not know about a technician not performing a service until 3 days later when informed via Angie's list - not everyone is on Angie's list so I would think they should have a better internal process for that. However, a new technician came out, performed the work without issue - was punctual and knowledgeable. I would use them again. I did appreciate their customer service and desire to leave me with a positive experience. That to me is a company that cares about its customers and one that stands behind their service.

We were completely impressed with the professional and personnel touch we received. Job was completed in less than 45 min. and area's back to normal. We will be calling him back in the Spring to have the chimneys pointed.

Excellent. They arrived on time and installed the new stainless steel liner in a few hours. They also patched a hole and crack in the existing flue to reinforce it and prevent any additional issues with the fireplace chimney flue.

Signed up on Angie's List specifically to find a reliable chimney sweep and this company came up. Price was right, they were on time and no issues, so it appears that Angie's List worked.

I called the company to have the fireplace and furnance fuel flues swept and inspected. The technicians were on time, professional and explained everything in detail with photos for some additional worked needed because a clay liner was deteriorated for the furnace side of the chimney. They gave me a reasonable price and I went ahead with the repair work. Overall, a postive experience and I will recommend this company to friends.

Explained what was wrong the chimney in great detail and the required next steps to get it up to code. They told me the liner was cracked and was leaking carbon monoxide into the house. I paid to have a new chimney liner installed. I just had the chimney inspected and cleaned by another sweep and have been informed that the liner is an inch too small. The boiler was designed specifically for a 7 inch liner and they installed a 6 inch liner. Unusually large amounts of soot are building up in the liner and it needs to be replaced with a 7 inch liner to be consistent with the boiler. I can't even begin to put into words how upset I am with Affordable Chimney. Once I calm down I'll make an appointment with an attorney to review my options.

Initial contact was successful and an appointment for an estimate was scheduled. Needed to change the appointment. Could not reach a live person. Played telephone tag with voice mail over three day period. Gave up after the 4th attempt and went with another provider. So grade is not based on actual work. Provider needs to improve their front-end communication process.

Affordable Chimney Sweeps installed a liner and added a clean out door at a competitive price, showed up on time, did quality work (not that anyone would look behind my furnace), and 9 months later I have had no issues. Another company quoting the job (twice as expensive) used scare tactics (that my chimney would fall down). Whereas Affordable focused on doing a good job. It was a positive end to a frustrating story that started with a plumber, who installed a high efficiency oil-burner. The plumber knew it would cause severe condensation (acid rain) inside the chimney, but let me discover that his bill was not the only expense I would have...this acid rain was pooling in my basement daily and eating my chimney and concrete. The chimney liner solved the problem.

They did a good job for me. They were perfect. They were professional. They are insured, and we trusted them to do the job.
