I can't say enough wonderful things about this company! We just bought an old house with old plumbing, and this company will handle all our plumbing issues from now on. When you call, someone answers the phone and helps you right away, there's no waiting for someone to call you back. They are prompt, responsive and professional. Installing our new dishwasher was no easy task since we have very old plumbing and lots of the pipes and valves had to be replaced as well. Our washing machine was leaking due to a severely clogged drain pipe that took some time to clear, we needed a new gas dryer hooked up, and we had a couple of radiators that were leaking water. The crew assigned to us was dedicated, detail oriented and, in short, fabulous. They didn't leave until they were 100% satisfied that everything was installed and working perfectly. Also, they took away our old dishwasher and our old dryer! I can't tell you how long we argued with Home Depot over this when they delivered our new appliances, they refused to haul away the old ones, even though they had agreed to when we bought the appliances. Baker Elman took them away without us even asking. In short, use this company. They are superb.

Great work repairing part of the problem with the kitchen sink by replacing the basket. But the faucet still leaking. They don't carry with them parts for Kohler or new faucets. I didn't realize this, so I guess that part is my mistake. I'm planning to buy and have them install a new sink and faucet. Same with old leaking bathroom sink faucet. And, as usual, loud buzzing sound that I'd heard from the boiler burner motor was quiet while plumber was listening. . . . Service man answered questions and that was helpful. I recommend them.

We had an existing gas dryer in the basement of a rental apartment that we needed hooked up. We called on a Tuesday morning and the first appointment we could get was on Thursday (which in some ways we thought was good as it meant they were busy with other clients.) Over the phone, we were quoted $108 with the Angie's List discount. My husband met the technician at the house and while we had the necessary parts, the technician used his own which added to the cost. We expected a bill of $140 or so and ended up with a bill of $230! We called right away and after the person spoke with the technician and adjusted the travel time, it ended up being $144. I was very impressed with how quickly they resolved the issue, but I am surprised that it occurred in the first place. Perhaps it was an isolated incident. Overall, the technician did fine work, but we've used a lot of plumbers over the years and didn't find this company to stand out that much more than others.

Great overall. Easy to schedule, came when they said they would, good service, good price. Will use again for all plumbing needs. Thanks.

Our shower was giving alternating hot and cold water, and we suspected a faulty mixing valve in the bathtub (we live in a condo in an old building). We figured if we have to pull the valve apart we might as well upgrade our aesthetics since we intend to redo the entire bathroom one day, so we bought new fixtures. We found Baker Elman on Angie's List and after they came by for a quote (free), we contracted them to replace the fixtures and mixing valve. During the installation, the plumber made some very helpful recommendations about our hardware. He advised that we return the tub spout we bought (one of those universal models with the plastic fittings inside) and opt for something made entirely of metal so it would be sturdier in the event that something is dropped on the spout. He also told us we could return the caulk and plumber's tape we bought because our shower valve has a felt ring on the back that creates a seal and he knew we would have to remove it again when we eventually replace our tile. He also explained that we couldn't immediately swap out the shower neck we bought because we currently have a Symmons Nu-Arm, which is only offered in chrome (not our finish of choice), and installs differently than other traditional shower necks. Anyway, the new fixtures were installed in short order and the broken mixing valve was replaced, but the problem persisted. After a few phone calls, David, the master plumber, came out a couple days later and identified the problem--our hot water heater/boiler combo was not adequately heating the domestic water for faucets. It should be between 120-130 degrees, we were getting 103. He adjusted the temperature of the hot water heater and while we waited to test the shower temperature, he proactively saw that our bathroom sink was draining slowly so he unclogged it. Overall, we're very pleased with Baker Elman's service and their willingness to come back out and fix the problem without the need for a second invoice. Still, it would have been nice if the problem had been identified and resolved during the first visit.

Did not show up as promised. When called toward the end of the time window, they said they had us down for the following day. Since the following day was no good for us, they sent someone right over who performed the work quickly and efficiently and in a professional manner.

Based on Angie's List reviews, I received an estimate for the installation of a 40 gallon gas hot water heater. They provided an estimate immediately over the phone and scheduled a date to install the hot water heater. They provided a 10% Angie's List discount on labor costs. They arrived on-time and installed the hot water heater without any problems or any mess.

I was provided a time slot of between 9am and noon. I was called at 8:15am to ask if they could arrive at 8:30. The problem was fixed in about 20 minutes, but since they had to charge me for a full hour, Tony spent the full hour bleeding the system and performing various checks to make sure the system was functioning properly. The overall experience was excellent.

Great, came in when scheduled, completed work in timely manor. Since all activities were performed in under an hour I was charged the minimum rate. They switched the faucet handle direction which is annoying.

Appt was made without a problem. Plumber was professional, courteous and to the point. Was able to answer a few other questions re: plumbing issues in the house, that I will definitely use this company for. Highly recommend.

They were very professional and very convenient. I gave them a call and it wasn?t an emergency situation. They apologized that they couldn?t come out the next day which was fine for us. We got an early morning appointment within the week and we didn?t have to wait. The person who made the appointment asked us to take a picture of the inside of the tank and email it to them. So they would know what set up we had and the parts could be made ready.

I knew something was wrong with the toilet for about a year, but didn't address it until it overflowed on Friday night/Saturday morning at 3:00am. Their website had an emergency service number which I called and left a message They also offered a page number, but we had shut the water off so I didn't think it was necessary. I received a call back Saturday morning and they scheduled an appointment for 11:00. I can't remember the gentleman's name, but he was fantastic!! He arrived promptly and fixed it in no time! Luckily we didn't have to get a new toilet. He even reminded me about the Angie's List discount! I would use them again without hesitation.

From start to finish, we had a VERY positive experience with this company. Most notable was that when they came to look at the job and give me an estimate (no charge), they noted extensive corrosion on a large pipe leading into our steam boiler, and said they would TRY and fix it, but if there was corrosion also on the inside pipes, we would need a new boiler. (Other companies that looked at the job said the boiler was "beyond repair", they were unwilling to open up the boiler and look further into where the problem was coming from, and they then gave me prices for a new boilder.) Baker-Elman's more careful approach resulted in us saving over $8000 on a new boiler!! I also learned that this type of steam boiler often "lasts a lifetime" and so it was definitely worth doing the diagnostic procedure to see if it could be repaired. (the repair cost only $400.) Extremely courteous, well-informed, helpful. We have cancelled our expensive maintenance policy that we have maintained for years with a utility company, and will in the future use Baker-Elman for all maintenance and repair issues involving gas boiler and hot water heater as well as other household plumbing issues.

Showed up promptly, were very helpful over the phone and came in over $300 less than a similarly reputable plumber. Water heater was replaced quickly and with no issues!

The first was a leaking shower that was staining the ceiling below it. They sent John to inspect it and he spent an hour thoroughly checking it out, concluding that it was likely moisture seeping in through a badly grouted wall, rather than a problem with the plumbing itself. Since then we've had the shower regrouted and the ceiling repainted, and it seems that he was right. I then called to ask about rerouting some vents in our attic. I believe I spoke to David on the phone, who took a lot of time to explain how I'd first need to hire a roofer to create the vents themselves, after which he could send a plumber to hook up the necessary pipes. That was quite helpful and we plan to do that quite soon. Most recently, I called to have three faucets and two shower trim kits installed. After leaving multiple voicemails that were never returned, I ended up hiring someone from Aldorasi Plumbing, who did a great job at an hourly rate roughly 80% of what Baker Elman charges. Though I'd use Baker Elman again, it was easier to get in touch with Aldorasi, so I'll try them first in the future.

I was impressed with their positive feedback on this site, so I sent an email requesting an estimate. I had an email back the very next day along w/ their phone number for scheduling. I was so impressed with the fast response I called that day and scheduled an appointment. The day of the appointment, I got a call an hour before the sheduled time to let me know that they were running a little late, which I very much appreciated. They came out, took care of the problem quickly and I was very impressed! Everyone I dealt with both in the office and the man who came out were all very nice and professional. It was hassle free! They gave me some great information for when I have to replace my water heater and I will definitely use them to do so.

The kitchen faucet had been leaking for a week and was getting worse. My mother wanted someone she could depend on, a plumbing professional. I joined Angie's List and liked what I read on Baker Elman Plumbing. She called them up and they came a day later, on what was one of the hottest days of June. They were very professional and didn't mind her asking questions. Our house was built in 1927 and the pipe underneath the sink was showing its age. They explained to her why it had to be replaced, and got to work on removing the old section and replacing it with an acrylic one. Our kitchen has no AC so the two men were working under there for a bit, as well as connecting the new faucet. She was very happy with them, and will call them again for other plumbing work. They were very professional and didn't complain about the heat in our kitchen and the extra time they likely spent underneath to replace the old pipe. The price was reasonable as well. Very satisfied.

Baker Elman was the ideal experience from start to finish. Our hot water heater burst in the middle of the night. We called at 8 am the next day and had a call back by 9 and a visit out by 10 to do an estimate. We had been interested in a tankless heater, and we were given the pro's and con's of each, and an estimate that was correct to the dollar amount. No pressure to go for the more expensive option, just a clear description of what was required for a standard vs tankless system. Amazingly, a crew came in and began that day and finished by morning. The total was just a little under what we were told from the beginning. Every single person with whom we dealt was pleasant, professional, and efficient. I will call Baker Elman from now on for any plumbing needs. Thank you!

I can't say enough good things about Baker Elman. We recently moved into a new house and had a several small to medium sized projects going on at the same time. Baker Elman was the only provider that finished on time for the agreed upon amount with absolutely no problems. David came out the week before the work to give us an estimate on replacing the water heater and pulling one of the radiators in our living room. He was extremely pleasant to work with and gave us a run down of options for replacing the aging water heater. We looked into more energy efficient options, but David ran through the complexities of installing a new energy efficient system into our old (100+ yr) house. We decided to just replace our old water heater with the latest version of the same model. He gave us an extremely reasonable quote for both projects before he left and we called back to schedule the work the very next day. On the following Thursday, one of their plumbers showed up right on time and started the work. Neither my wife or I was able to stay at the house while the work was being done, but when we want back that night the area around the water heater was spotless (you'd never know work had been done) and the radiator had been pulled and put in the designated location. We are both extremely happy with them.

Our garbage disposal started leaking on a Sunday morning, I left a message for them that day and received a call back by 7:30am on Monday morning. I spoke with Dave and he was able to explain to me the different type of disposals that are available and their price points. They scheduled the work for Tuesday at 9am-9:30am, however they did not arrive until 9:50am; when I called the office to check to see when the repair man would arrive, the receptionist was pleasant and helpful. Overall, the work took 1.5 hrs-2hrs (in a hot and humid house), they were very clean and left us the manual for for the new disposal.

They were very good. Very responsive and dropped everything to help because I had no heat.

The week of 7/15 we got a bid from Baker Elman and got three or four bids. The unit installed was superior and I had prior experience so I went with them. When I told Sheryl Elman on a Friday that we were without hot water she scheduled the work in Monday Morning. The work was done excellently, in fact an independent estimator looked at the job and commented on its care and neatless. While it took two days for the installation to be done, the next two days was wasted on delays due to details of the town inspection (the Town Inspector for Brookline David Lynch actually caused the contractor to do a slightly worse installation!!). Friday after all the inspections were done the burner tankless unit was disconnected and the new unit turned on. It has worked well ever since and has 98%+ efficiency.

Came same day. Simple problem. Only took 10 mins. but they took care of me quickly and professionaly and had a one hour minimum as most trades do.

Both guys were very personable and answered some other questions for me since I am a new homeowner. The reason I gave a B for Responsiveness is because I left a message at 8:30am one morning to set this all up and didn't get a call back. So I called the next day around 10:30am, got the receptionist and set up the appointment. Not terrible, but I guess I expected a call back the same day, or within 24 hours. The receptionist was very nice. Good experience, would hire again.
