Two workers showed up right on time. Job certainly did not require two people but I think one was an apprentice. Jobs were simple but they did the work in just 30-45 min and the price was reasonable. Would definitely use this company again.

I was very pleased. The guy was efficient, quick and pleasant, and he cleaned up after himself. He was on time; actually, he was about 10 minutes late, but he called to let me know that. I have no complaints about the quality of their work. I would use them again in the future if necessary.

I looked a previous reviews and read a description of a customer's leaky water heater that matched our story identically (see 7/5/11 entry). Based on the fantastic reviews, called the company. My experience read exactly as that described for 7/5/11. Individual who took my call was pleasant, patient and very, very helpful. She provided an outline of the costs and asked for specific information regarding access to our basement and put a plan in motion. I called at 1:00 yesterday afternoon, they were able to come this morning at 9:00 and were done with the entire process by 10:15. The technicians were friendly, helpful and efficient!

Originally, I had called another plumber to install my water heater because he had repaired my boiler just a couple of months ago. I asked him if he could do it if I ordered the water heater and he said no problem. When I followed up with him, I did not receive any calls back. So, I checked Angie's list and found great reviews for Baker Elfman and they were much closer to my home. I contacted them and they were just great. They scheduled the appointment and within 5 days as promised, they installed my new water heater. Initially, the lady I spoke with was concerned because my old water heater was leaking and she was trying to fit me in sooner, but I told her not to worry because it was in my basement and it had been leaking for over a month already. They even gave me a solid quote that they kept to. They arrived earlier than I expected and did an excellent job with the install. Work was completed efficiently and I appreciated the professionalism. He even replaced two bleeders on my radiators that had leaks with no additional cost. I will use them again for any major plumbing needs again.

Everything went very smoothly. The old tankless unit had been poorly installed with some corners cut (use of breakers and breaker box that could not be replaced in kind) on the electrical part. The new tankless unit which I procured was bigger than the old unit and this required relocating the unit in the closet where it was installed. These adjustments were all made without fuss and within their original cost estimate. Everyone including the office staff were accommodating and a pleasure to work with. Experience with tankless hot water systems is harder to find than for regular tank systems but they knew how to work with the system and did a great job. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone installing a tankless system.

Chose this company due to their positive ratings on Angie's list as well as their location to the site needing the work. Kenny, of Baker-Elman Plumbing was extremely personable, informative and professional. He answered all of my questions clearly and concisely. He really helped me get specs and visual plans in place for my next plumbing project. The biggest drawback of the process, which wasn't even really a big deal, was the 1-4pm window of arrival. I was forced to take a half day from work for such a small/fast job. That is to be expected with things like this and is far from being a deal breaker. All in all, Baker-Elman was a great company to work with and I would definitely recommend them to friends!
Description of Work: Kenny of Baker-Elman, attached the gas stove, put all the pieces together, leveled the oven and explained a few details about the "break-in" process of a new gas stove. Whole thing took under an hour. I had him walk around a few other parts of the house to give an expert opinion on additional plumbing for a washer/gas dryer as well as a water spigot on the outside of the house. The main service was to hook-up the gas stove. Works and looks great! Company was great to work with! $130 bucks for the visit, 10% off for Angie's list member. Overall great experience!

Got home from vacation the evening of 7/4 to find that our basement water heater had started to leak. Called Baker Elman Plumbing Tuesday morning 7/5 and left message. Received prompt call-back. After I explained the problem, the individual to whom I spoke asked me some questions, trying to figure out if the old water heater (which had been installed almost 10 years previously by a different plumber) was still under warranty or if I had purchased some kind of protection program, because either of those situations would result in reduced service charges and she said she wanted to save me some money, if possible. Sadly, the warranty had expired and I hadn't purchased any special coverage. So she explained the two options available to me, provided the pricing, and clearly explained to me what their protection program does and does not cover. I made my choice, and they worked swiftly to have a new water heater delivered (within about 1 1/2 hours) and installed. She asked good questions about the location of the water heater, access to the basement, etc. -- so there would be no surprises for the plumber when he arrived. She and her colleagues were sensitive to the fact that my husband had to leave work early to be home in order to let the plumber in. The plumber arrived when he said he would, installed the new water heater and took away the old one -- and we have hot water again! Before the plumber left, he told my husband that I would receive a "paid" receipt by email, along with info about the new water heater and protection program. Later that afternoon, as promised, I received a phone call from Baker Elman asking me for my email address so that they could send me my receipt and descriptive information. I'm writing this review on 7/5, and so haven't yet received this info that they promised would be sent to me on 7/6 -- but based on the prompt, responsive, professional, and very pleasant service my husband and I received from Baker Elman today, I'm confident that I'll get my email tomorrow. I would certainly call Baker Elman Plumbing again.

Baker-Elman did a great job, they are top notch professionals and very nice to deal with. Price is always important and they were on the high end of quotes I got.. however they provide excellent service and gave me full confidence that the job would be done well. They helped in the boiler selection (it was an 85% efficiency model), and coordinated with a separate chimney liner company that we had selected. Steve coordinated the installation and was on site twice, once during the job and again later for the permit sign off by the city, -very helpful and friendly. The boiler install went smoothly, and the piping layout was very clean and neat compared to the previous system we had. Elizabeth coordinated the scheduling and billing etc, and was very helpful and pleasant to deal with. Overall we felt Baker Elman went the extra mile on service, and any small hiccups in the process were dealt with smartly. I would recommend them and will use them again in the future.

Fantastic. We previously used Baker-Elman in august 2007 to replace a water heater and had a great experience then that when we started noticing constant dripping/leakage from our garbage disposal and linking around the drainage pipe they we did not hesitate to contact them, even when there was a sticker on the disposal for another plumbing company that installed the previous disposal (used by previous owners 5+ years ago). I called Baker-Elman, described the issues and provided them with the type of disposal we currently had, though I wasn't sure exactly how old it was other than we have had it since we purchases the house 5+ years ago. When providing the model number to them, they mentioned the model we had installed was something they recommend for rental properties and not for permanent residents. They recommended a different model, that not only would do a better job but also be a relatively quiet applicance, as much as a disposal can. Now, I do not claim to be an expert on garbage disposals and from reading reviews of Baker-Elman and my previous experience with them, I believe they are honest and upfront. That said, I was curious so I did google both the disposal we currently had as well as the recommended model. First, our current model apparently has a limited shelf life and a common occurence is the breaking down of the internal seal causing leakage and is quite loud. CHECK exactl what we are running into. I also look at the price, and lets just say its cheap and if I were looking to add one to a rental property this would be it. I then checked out the recommended model on various sites and all had the realitive same price but also the same excellent rating. At that point I contacted Baker-Elman to schedule a replacement. Now I believe I first contact them on a Wednesday around 1PM to explain my situation and when I agreed to proceed with the replacement that afternoon, I had an appointment for Friday morning that week. Now granted this is not a huge job but it is not very often you get an appointment that quick. But Baker-Elman does. So Friday came and the gentleman arrived around 9am, I believe. Very nice, personable and after giving an overview of the issue, he then described what he was going to do. Within the hour, he had removed and replace the old disposal, replaced the pipe that leaked with new PVC pipe, which actually saved us some room under the sink and gave a quick demo of the product. The new disposal is awesome. I mean it is just a disposal but its quiet and so quiet it is almost as if its not running. Our previous one was loud, like can't sleep loud. This one does its job and is quiet. Overall the experience was excellent. Sheryl was fantastic to work with in describing the situation and coming up with a recommended replacement and setting the schedule. The actual plumber that replace (sorry his name escapes me) did a great job. Oh, and as he was leaving, he came back to the house, and mentioned that my car inspection sticker was set to expire in May. Superb service by Baker-Elman and I recommend any plumbing issues to contact them. While I hope I don't have any future plumbing issues, if I do, I am contacting them. Top Notch company!

I live in a condo. The Electric Hot Water Heater was getting on in years (about 10 years old) and I felt it should be replaced before it failed. The unit is off a downstairs bathroom (behind folding doors) and shares a very crowded space with a washer/dryer and the large electric heat pump unit. I first thought that a tankless electric unit would be the way to go and called Baker Elman for an estimate. They advised against the tankless electric unit because they weren't sure it would provide enough hot water and certainly would need electric rewiring. We agreed on a Rheem electric 50 gallon tank and a Floodmaster shut off unit to guard against leaks. At the appointed time, Tony and another plumber showed up. They were big men used to grappling with heavy jobs. Because of the tight space there were several problems to overcome. Everything needed to come through the small downstairs bathroom. Doors were removed. The washer/dryer needed to be removed first to get to the water heater. Unfortunately it was too big to fit out the bathroom door! The solution was to remove the toilet and shove the washer/dryer back using the extra space. The old tank proved hard to drain, even with their pump-- there was so much sediment in it. Finally they got out enough water to make it manageable to move it. Once removed, things proceeded smoothly and with aplomb (a plumb?). The entire job took about 4 hours and everything was put back and cleaned up. The new system works well, I have plenty of hot water and peace of mind.

We have a half-finished basement with a roughed-in half bath on the unfinished side. It had a very old toilet and the mechanism was failing. Unfortunately part of the mechanism was built into the porcelain tank, so the entire toilet needed to be replaced rather than just the mechanism. It had been getting slowly worse over months, and finally we had to turn off the valve to keep it from wasting water. At that point it was virtually useless, so we bought a new toilet at Home Depot. I called Baker Elman Monday morning and they were able to make an appointment for first thing that Thursday morning, exactly what I requested. Two workmen showed up exactly on time. They were pleasant and friendly but got straight to work. They asked if they should take the old toilet away, I said "yes" and went off to attend some things. It couldn't have been more than 45 minutes later that they were all done. They had finished the install, cleaned up, and removed the old toilet along with all of the packing materials from the new one. There was nothing I needed to do but write a check and thank them. Baker Elman charges $130/hr and gives a 10% discount for Angie's List customers. They have a one hour minimum, so the charge for this was $117.

Response from Baker Elman Plumbing
Unfortunately, sometimes our technicians do not like to talk about money. This creates a situation where we are forced to send bills and have to wait for people to decide to pay us. We have worked for this member several times in the past and had to wait to get paid. We have changed our billing practices to COD when possible. Depending on the job and if it requires several trips billing might become necessary. We are actively trying to control costs by sending billing and statements through e-mail. If we have not received an undeliverable e-mail we assume that our customer received it. When several months pass and we don't receive a call or payment then we put notes on statements to encourage payment. We now do a large percentage of our billing through e-mail without many problems. We are sorry that the member feels offended by our note and are sorry that he feels we are not suitable to work for him in the future.

My water heater began to leak and I was immediately worried as I had experienced flooding before (due to a failed water heater). Baker Elman was very responsive to my phone call. They came out for a site visit within a matter of days. They were clear and transparent with their quote. They put me on their calendar very quickly and replaced my water heater, as well as some older valves. I did get other estimates and Baker Elman was very fair (in fact their price was lower than a few other quotes I received). The men who came out to do the work, were very professional, very friendly and very clean. They were very careful not to cause any damage, and they were even nice enough to answer a lot of questions I had about the water heater and plumbing in general. They left my condo very clean. I am extremely happy with the level of service I received from Baker Elman, and I will definitely use them for an additional plumbing needs. I recommend them highly.

I called them earlier in the week and describe them the job. The manager called back in less than half an hour to make sure the job was clear to him and so he would know what needed to be fixed. I gave them the model number of the shower system and they figured out what needed to be done and what part needed to be replaced. They called back and told me that the part was available and we scheduled the job for Thursday afternoon 1 to 4 pm(which was good for my schedule). Then I asked how much was the part and they called back in few minutes told me the price of the part, told me about Angies list discount for the labor. Then they called at 1.00 o'clock, saying they will there in 15 minutes. They came, they shut-off the water, opened up the system, replaced the part. They had all the appropriate tools and the part. They were done in less than hour, turn on the water, tested the system. I paid with a credit card and it all done. I was impressed with the work and the professionalism. I have a plumbing job that I have been postponing for years and now, I am getting a quote from them.
