Description of Work: There was a leak under the toilet. The plumbers took the toilet up and found that the problem was a blockage in the sewer line outside of the house and recommended a drain cleaning company. The plumbers replaced the toilet.

Basically everything went great he fixed the shower issue and got the faucet replaced (we had bought one already to install) quickly. He did need to go out to get some tubing but was back in a flash. Overall a great experience, I would definitely hire again.
Description of Work: We had a kitchen faucet that gradually lost water pressure; probably blockage in the line, and then the handle on it cracked and broke. Since we were going to have a plumber visit we had him take a look at a shower head that was leaking when it was turned on.

 + -1 moreI called and it was easy to schedule an appt for my leaking tub. They called me a few hours before the time slot they gave me and asked if it was okay if they showed up a little bit early, and were a half hour early. The guy who showed up was very personable and professional. He fixed the bathtub faucet as best he could but made sure I knew it was only a temporary fix and it would leak again until I changed out pieces in the wall that were corroded. When he was done i still expected it to drip, but it had completely stopped. I had a lot of questions about what my best options were for a permanent repair and he spent time chatting with me about some different approaches and costs. Overall a good customer service experience, I will definitely be using them again when I make the bigger repair.

He did not have the part needed, but returned to the company office, got the parts and returned the same day (a relief for me, since I had taken time off from work for this appointment!) The leak is fixed and my faucet works better than ever! The cost was on the high side, even with the Angie's List discount, but I was impressed by the quality of service from the office to the plumbing work.

They adjusted the final bill taking into consideration the money we had already paid for the earlier attempts that was really appreciated. They we're great to work with and removed and replaced the claw foot tub, working around the floor installers. It,s back where it belongs and looks great. They will be "our plumber" from now on.

 + -1 moreI ordered a modern style toilet from Kohler through another company, and it was incompatible with the fixtures from the previous toilet, so I needed to get a plumber involved to move the piping. It was somewhat complicated because of the size of the bathroom allowed for only a couple of centimeters clearance for the plumbing. I emailed them photos of what I had and they were able to talk me through the whole process and in the end complete the entire installation. They were very upfront about the price, however, because it was so complicated, I didn't shop around so I can't really comment on how their pricing compares. It seemed fair, though.

 + 0 moreWater heater was failing, and a plumber responded to my call, came and inspected the water heater and determined a new one was needed. We arranged a date and time to install the new one, and the plumber showed up on time, performed the work, and cleaned up the work are, including removal of the old heater. A representative called me the next day to ask if I was pleased with the service. I'll call them in the future if I need any further plumbing and/or heating work done--they were responsive to my first call, and the lumber himself was efficient, pleasant, and professional. A pleasure to have had this work done so easily and quickly.

One of my tenants called me on a Saturday night with a problem with the one toilet in the apartment. Since I live far from Boston now, I hopped on Angie's List to find reputable plumbers. Baker Elman was ranked quite high so I called them immediately. They were professional, kind, easy to work with, explained the issues they found and understood my limitations being located so far from the unit. Sheryl Elman, in particular, was great to work with - she was very much concerned with keeping costs down and kept me informed throughout the process (rather than working through the tenant). I highly recommend this company.

water heater repair
 + -1 moreFound my hot water heater spraying water in the furnace room at 8:00 pm on Wednesday. My husband was able to shut off the water valve to the unit (leaving us with no hot water). Spoke to the on-call person, who said the could be out first thing in the morning. They checked the serial number and found that the tank was still under warranty (although parts and labor warranty has expired 6 months earlier- isn't that always the way things go?) By noon, they had hauled out the old water heater and had the new one installed. The crew was friendly and courteous, and knew just what to do!

 + 0 moreI called Baker Elman on a Thursday evening after heavy rain had caused our sump to overflow and partially flood our basement. They were able to come first thing on Friday morning. I was thankful that during the call they asked if it might be necessary to bring a new pump to complete the job and I replied "yes." The plumber arrived just before 8am as scheduled and pulled the old pump in a matter of minutes. After inspecting the old pump and noting the corrosion, he recommended replacing it. After a few modifications to the existing pipes, the new pump was installed and the whole job was done in an hour. The plumber then stayed to thoroughly test the new pump. Even after heavy rain, there have been no problems with the pump. Very satisfied with the work done and the price charged.

From the time when Steve came by for the quote to Baker Elman's third and final visit to finish the job, I was impressed by their punctuality and professionalism. They have a friendly and reliable administrative staff that takes care of all the billing and scheduling, so it was never a problem to figure out how I was going to pay or to confirm and appointment. The actual work was done by John Carey, who was very experienced, thoughtful, and detail-oriented when installing the new hot water baseboards. I felt I was in very safe hands throughout the entire process, and even though the time between the first and final (third) visit spanned more than one-and-a-half months, John was able to pick up exactly where he left off each time. I am extremely pleased with the final product. Not only do the hot water baseboards keep my apartment toasty, but they also look great! The carpenter I was working with almost convinced me into buying custom-made hot-water baseboard covers from him, but the Slant-Fins John recommend and installed are so nice that absolutely no modifications were necessary. Thanks very much John and Baker Elman. Oh, and the best part is that Baker Elman beat the quote of another "Best-of-Boston" plumber by over 30%!! When I told Baker Elman their quote came in low, they didn't try to talk their way into a higher price. They kept true to the quote and delivered fantastic results.
Description of Work: Remove old hot-water baseboard, install over 40' of new hot-water baseboard that included a non-continuous segment which required burying pipe underneath my floorboards.

 + -1 moreFirst, with the walk through to quote the job - the plumber was prompt, courteous and knowledgeable. The company had a quote submitted to us within a day. The price on the job was comparable to the other two estimates we received. On the day of the scheduled work, a different plumber was assigned. This plumber was just as prompt and courteous. The company only sent one plumber for this particular job, but it did not seem to hinder the process. The plumber cleaned up after the job, capped off the old venting unit until we can have it removed and the hole repaired.
Description of Work: Moved a gas dryer from one side of the basement to the other. Job required plumber to run new gas line across basement, break through foundation and install new venting unit, move dryer and test.

 + -1 morePlumber showed up late. Was outside in his vehicle for awhile before coming in. Seemed confused about what to do. Asked him to also look at garbarge disposal which seems finicky at times. But he turned it on and it was working. On to next project: PLEASE install copper line to new fridge. He started, never finished. Left and said he would come back. Didnt leave a business card or an invoice. Received a bill in the mail about 6 months later. Didnt apply the Angies List Discount coupon which he was given upon his arrival. My father just assumed they would return as promised. Fridge still does not have water function. Thank you Baker!

We were pleased with the work performed, the professionalism of the workmen, the completion of the work in a timely manner and the assistance provided in the removal and disposal of our existing oil tanks. We highly recommend the heating services of Baker Elman Plumbing Company. The workmanship is excellent, the company representatives are helpful and knowledgable and immediately responsive to questions. This company has set the standard for customer service and workmanship!
Description of Work: Baker-Elman Plumbing Company, Inc. installed 2 boilers at our home when we converted our heating systems from oil to gas. The company ran new gas lines to both boilers and repiped feeds and returns to the boilers. When we initially contacted Baker-Elman regarding the conversion, the company promptly scheduled an appoinment to view our heating plant and to determine the size/capacity of the boilers needed. The company representative explained the conversion process, and informed us of the preliminary work required before converting from oil to gas including removal of asbestos from the exisiting pipes and boilers, removal of the existing boilers and installation of a steel liner in the chimney. Baker-Elman ordered the gas boilers from the gas company and made the arrangements for delivery. Also, Baker-Elman arranged for the removal and disposal of our existing oil tanks. The conversion was completed in 4 days. The plumbers arrived at 8:30 am and worked the full day. They cleaned-up the work area each day and upon completion of the job our basement was left in excellent condition. We were exceedingly pleased with the workmanship, the follow-through, the professionalism displayed by the plumbers and the timely completion of the work. Prior to starting the conversion, Baker-Elman obtained the necessary permits and arranged for the inspection of the installation by the city. At the inspection by the city, Baker-Elman was requested to install a second shut-off valve. The company attended to this promptly. Otherwise, the inspector found the work satisfactory and everything passed inspection. The cost of service was competitive, the workmen excellent and the conversion successfully done. We have operated the heating systems for about a month and all has been well. We would highly recommend Baker-Elman Plumbing Company, Inc. for heating services.
