Baker Elman Plumbing

From the moment I first called, they were superb. I talked to Cheryl and explained that I had a burst water heater, which was installed by a previous owner and thought warranty did not transfer. She helped me find the warranty info on the tank and did the research for me which she discovered was indeed still in warranty and would be $600 for 6 yr heater. I own a 2 family so decided to replace other water heater which was 10 years old and got a 10 yr heater for $1245 (another plumber wanted $1500 for 10yr 40 gal heater with install). I then discussed with my wife, called back and talked to David. I asked if there was a discount for 2 water heaters and he said he would do it for me. He gave me both for $1600 which included install and permit fees. They heaters were delivered and installed the next day. Two workers came and they were amazing. Very professional, easy to talk to and pleasure to have working in your home. They generally love what they do and it showed. They answered any questions I had and were very efficient. I will use Baker Elman for all my plumbing needs and refer them to anyone who asked.

Went well. The plumber showed up on time, seemed to do a good job addressing the problem, and cleaned up when done. My only complaint was that the plumber needed to go to the store for a small section of pipe, which I would have assumed would be a standard item to have. I ended up paying for the time the plumber took to go to the store. As a result, the repair ended up costing a little more than I think it should have. But at the end of the day they did the work well, found another issue we hadn't noticed yet, and were very easy to work with. We will use them again.

It went well. They gave good and reasonable advice on what to do with the cheaper plumbing going to the third floor, replaced the section of thin-walled pipe they could get to without breaking down more walls or ceiling, and then also replaced corroded pipe that was hard to get to in the basement. They came in well below their estimate (approximately $150 lower) and were polite and professional.

David Elman himself showed up within the time window they specified, gave me a quote on some work I was thinking about having done, and snaked our bathroom drain. He was very friendly and pleasant to deal with. After receiving the quoteI went ahead and set up a second appointment for them to install the ice maker water shutoff valve. Once again the service was excellent - they were punctual, friendly and got the job done in about an hour. Between the visit for the drain and the 2nd appointment, I'd estimate labor time to be about 90 minutess. One extra is that I like that they email an electronic copy of the receipt - less paper is good. I would use them again. E

We discovered a slow leak in our hot water heater the day before Christmas. We called Baker Elman the day after Christmas, first thing in the morning. The person who helped us was very nice. She answered all our questions and set up the appointment and made sure we were comfortable with the process and the fact that since it was a slow leak, we could still at least take showers until it was replaced. I would definitely go back there.

After the town worked on the sewers in my neighborhood, my toilet no longer worked properly. The plumber came out and replaced some worn-out parts. The timing with the sewer work was probably a coincidence. The project took little time and the cost was consistent with the estimate I got over the phone. Plus I got a small Angie's List discount.

When I contacted them by e-mail they promptly called and gave me an estimate over the phone, explaining that until they see the job they could not give an exact price. However, they publish their rates on their web site so you know how they will bill you. I told them the date I needed and they scheduled exactly what I wanted. Then I realized I gave them the wrong date and needed to change it less than a week in advance and they did that no problem. They showed up on time, did the work efficiently and neatly and it ended up costing me $200 less than their estimate. The quality of the work was very good. All contacts I had with their office and the plumber that came to do the work were very professional. This is a very good company.

The folks at Baker Elman were very pleasant. When the technician came out the first time, we quickly realized that both appliances were delivered without the proper conversion kits (thanks, Lowes). So, he was able to take a look at both appliances and the current set-up, and make inquiries as to the pressure on our Propane tanks so we'd be all set for the actual work. I was able to schedule an appointment for later that week for him to come back out. He brought a coworker to help with the work. Though it took them the better part of the day to complete the work (the dryer conversion required taking apart the entire casing to access the valve for conversion, which would have been nice to know when we inquired at Lowes. We were told it was an easy change.), they were friendly and I felt totally comfortable with them in the house. They made sure the stove was working properly, and even tried to sweep after they were done.

My Rheem water heater reached itsshelf life after 21 years of loyal service! And I needed a new water heater installed. Based on the recommendations found on Angies list, I called Baker Elman and was pleased that I did. David Elman answered all of my questions thoroughly and professionally. He new that I had no heat and never took advantage of the situation because his price was fair. He quoted me a price to replace the Rheem (which also goes by the name RUD) water heater (all in, including Angie's discount and taxes, permit) for $2087. for a 75 gallon with 10 yr. warranty. The water heater was delivered as promised during the morning of delivery by the supply house whose drive/delivery person was very professional and brought the water heater right to my basement door. John L. and Mike C. from Elman Baker, came to do the installation shortly after the water heater arrived. Both were extremely professional, knowledgable and conscientious. They removed a large water heater up a flight of stairs (without any damage to the finished basementl), and installed the new one within the time frame quoted (about three hours from start to finsih). To note, John and Mike proactively made sure that the area was spotless when they left. It is that level of detail and customer service that is a lost art and was greatly appreciated. Cheryl, David Elman's wife, was also very helpful and very knowledgable too. This family owned business is well run, they care about their clients and reputation. I highly recommend them and will cal them again when I need plumbing services.

I called Baker Elman because we had company and the toilets were overflowing--the day before a storm. They had done work for us twice before and had been wonderful. They couldn't come out immediately and referred someone else-who was also awesome. He snaked the sewer line and cleaned up afterward. They are busy but worth waiting for--if you can.

Emergency call to Baker Elman regarding the furnace not working. The tech explained that the service call would be at the time and a half rate. The tech was at the house within an hour. The tech was able to get the furnace back up and running; it was the electronic starter and he also showed me how to troubleshoot. The tech took down the information about the furnace should we call back and need to replace a part.

We had an emergency with our hot water heater leaking. It was a weekend and Baker Elman returned an emergency phone call immediately. The repair man told us that the hot water heater could not be replaced until Monday but was able to troubleshoot over the phone how to shut everything down and where all the valves were. We called Baker Elman on Monday morning and received a call back in a matter of minutes. The office reviewed our options for hot water heater and maintenance plans and had a new hot water heater at our house and installed in a matter of 2 hours. Great technicians and great company to do business with.

Baker Elman Plumbing called before the sceduled repair to tell me that they could do it one day ahead of time. They arrived promptly, did the repair, and were helpful and considerate of my needs. I plan to call them the next time I need plumbing service.

Our water heater broke down over the preceding weekend. The tank had apparently rusted and developed a leak, hosing the heating unit, pilot light and everything around the water heater. Placed a call on the weekend requesting a call back the first thing on Monday morning. (Saturday rates are 50% extra and Sunday rates are 100% extra). They promptly called back on Monday 7:30am, had someone come take a look around 9am, determined that we needed a new water heater, and had two people come over by 11:30 to replace the unit, and we had a new unit up and running by 1pm on Monday. We are new to homeownership, so their promptness and professionalism in helping us regain hot water so quickly was very much appreciated!
