Organic Soil Solutions

Organic Soil Solutions is one of the few all-natural lawn companies we found with a good rating in our suburb of MA. We like the lawn-care options they provide, and feel they are fairly priced. My only complaint is minor - it would be really nice to know when they are coming, so we can plan our other outdoor work (mowing the lawn, etc.) before they arrive, though I realize scheduling may be hard based on weather and other customer locations. We used them for the first time in 2013 and will continue with them in 2014.

The company was contacted in July 2013 because I was tired of hit or miss attempts on my part at caring for our lawn. Based on reviews and a visit by Mike, I was impressed by the program which uses organic fertilizers along with slice seeding, aerating and application of lime after taking soil samples which were analyzed by an outside lab. Another consideration was concern for our grandchildren playing in the yard along with their puppy which gets into everything! The program was initiated in mid August and finished in mid October. We had decided to add more irrigation to our yard in mid September. This definitely helped a lot to get the full benefit of the program. At this writing our yard looks much better and we're looking forward to next year and even better grass. The employees are friendly and competent. The price for next year will be about $780 for a full regular season. The price shown above did not include spring fertilization and top dressing and seeding.

Although I didn't hire this company I would consider using them in the future. Mr Murry returned my calls promptly and was always courteous. He arrived on time both times and gave me a written estimate within 24 hours of viewing the property. I went with another company because their estimate was a little lower and it included off site disposal of the debris.

This is our second season using Organic Soil Solutions. When we went organic my husband was skeptical that our lawn would look as good as our neighbor's chemically managed lawn. The first year was tough on the lawn, but as Mike would reiterate, that is normal because most of the activity and fortification is happening in the soil and roots of the grass. It looked good but there were still some problem areas that were problems since we moved into our home. We also started in the Spring, when it's better to start the lawn care in the fall. By the end of our first season though we were able to notice that the lawn was looking much healthier. We just signed another full year contract with Mike - i think this is our third season with him - and my previously skeptical husband loves how our lawn looks. The staff come and do their job with out needing to schedule a head of time, so it's always a nice surprise to come and see that more work was done on our lawn (it's not a real surprise, as our contract says what applications would be done). They also leave a note after each application explaining what was done and how that helps the soil and grass which is nice to understand. We chose to pre-pay a full year's contract as he offers a discount over a pay per service plan. We look forward to many more years with organic soil solutions.

I purchased the entire year package but I am just reviewing the service performed so far, which was spring re-seeding and compost top dressing. I gave a B on responsiveness because I sent some emails that were unanswered and I had to call instead to get a response. I am giving an overall A rating though, because of the two men that came out and did the work this week. Initially I was expecting they would just come and run by with a seeder, spread some compost and be done with it but these guys actually filled every single missing patch on my lawn. My lawn was in pretty bad shape when I purchased the home last year. These two guys spent quite a bit of time making sure all spots were covered and seeded. I was very impressed on the thorough job. I have yet to see the results, which I think will depend mostly on how much I water my lawn but so far I'm happy with their diligent and hard work. Money well spent. Update: My lawn is now green, full and lush. It's been less a month. I watered it every other day and the recent rainfall helped. I wish there was a place to post photos on reviews so I can show before and after pictures of my lawn. My neighbor walked by and complimented on how well it grew back. Very satisfied with the results so far.

They are good and we are amazed. Our grass had been burned out last summer and we had somebody else taking care of it and they did not succeed. This company told us that the grass would grow and that we would have a good lawn and they were absolutely correct; it was in and worked within the time period they said. They write letters with instructions, but they could be a little better at communicating about exactly what the customer should be doing to help maintain their lawns. Their pricing was very reasonable in comparison with other companies.

Our lawn looked better than it has in a long time, and we feel good about how they did it.

His crew came in and pulled the bad grass and reseeded the lawn and came back in a couple of months for more treatment to prepare for next year. I will be using his services again..

The service provided as detailed above went without a hitch.

We asked for a quote to replace a wooden fence with a vinyl fence. The quote was returned to us very quickly and it was cheaper than most of the quotes we received from other contractors. The day of the installations went very smoothly. Organic Soil Solutions showed up early in the morning and didn't leave until the job was completely finished (about 10 hrs x 2 workers). The fence looks great.

He did a very good job and knew what he was talking about. He was very nice and committed to what he does. I would probably use his services to follow up with his suggestions.

We asked several estimates and we were immediately impressed by the competence and knowledge of the owner who came out to look at the yard and explained us why spring may have not been the best time to seed and what results we could expect without trying to "sell" us anything but seriously discussing with us the pros and cons. We decided to follow his advices, try with an initial compost treatment with seeds in the spring and then follow with a more extensive seeding in the fall if needed. We could have not been happier with their services. They came out twice (the first time a little area in the back had been overlooked because of a misunderstanding), did a very careful job and within a month we had a very nice lawn!

I contacted Organic Soil Solutions and got a real person on the first try. Mike was very professional and he said he would come out and look at my yard. He showed up when he promised and I had a quote for the entire year within a week. I sent the check and they have shown up according to schedule and performed all the services as outlined. Very happy to date

My experience with them has been very positive. They come on time and do their work and they always leave a note on what they have done. Their prices are reasonable and I will continue to use their services in the future.

Our lawn looks great, they do a really good job. They are very responsive to any questions or concerns.

My husband signed up for a plan, so they come once a month because I remember them coming and doing grass seed and a little bit of fertilizer. The guy that came out, did what he was supposed to do, and left. We spend anywhere between $800 and $1200 for the whole season, which is from spring all the way to fall. We also used them last year and they did an evaluation.

It didn't go well, as I never heard back.

They did a really good job. The gentleman was very responsive and he got back to me promptly when I e-mailed him with a couple of questions regarding the lawn when I first moved in. I told him that I needed to keep costs down in our current situation and that I needed to as little as possible, but whatever I needed to do to repair a very damaged lawn. He worked with me to do that and he came out a couple of times. The crew he sent out was very polite and thorough. Every time they came out and seeded or put down fertilizer they left a note in the mailbox. The note would say what they did and also gave you some education on how to take care of the lawn. It would mention what it needs, what the timing would be and what to expect, so that you have a good handle on what is going on. It also gives me competence that they know what they are doing. I called around from a handful of companies from the list and their prices were very good. I spend about $250 for that service and I think they have the discount for being on the list as well as the senior citizen discount. Their prices were probably the best that I found and the service has been great. They also contact everybody towards the end of the year to give them a yearly contract.

Although I wish it was less expensive, I keep using this company because they are very professional, accommodating, do a really nice job, and pay attention to specific requests I have.

Overall, the experience was okay. The lawn looked no different from when we used nothing; we still had alot of weeds, etc. All the supplies and chemicals were organic, but there was no difference between using them and not using them. They let us know that it'd be better as the years went by, but we decided to cancel this service.

This is my second year with Organic Soil Solutions. My husband is a BIG proponent of chemical fertilizers, but with two dogs running around the yard, I didn't want to have them exposed to a lot of pesticides and herbicides. This year the yard took a beating with the extreme heat and lack of water, but it stood up pretty well and now that the cooler weather is upon us, it is rebounding. The philosophy is that with proper seeding and watering weeds will be crowded out. They also test your soil before doing any treatments to make sure it is properly pH balanced and will work at getting it back into shape. The crew comes 6 to 7 times during the season. They have always been polite, and make sure the gate is latched before leaving.

They did an amazing job. Were upfront about the difference we would see this year and next. Checked the ph, used different fertilizer for the more problem areas. The guys sent over to work on our lawn were friendly, went out of their way to explain any questions. Definitely a company with employees who take pride in their work. This year, we will do a complete service plan which will be more cost effective.

I got in touch with Soil Solutions when they were still part of Boston Tree Preservation. I've used them for over 5 years now (but not very recently due to some construction on my property). Very professional crew, they come when they say, and leave a note on your door saying what they did if you aren't home. I use the early pay in spring option and save 10% for the summer's treatments. My lawn looks great and I don't believe in watering! My neighbors ask... Mike's taught me a few things about soil and pests, very good stuff. I plan on using them again in 2010 now that the construction is done. I like the reminder letter they send in the winter -- it has good lawn and pest control tips.

Very Well. Mike seems to be very knowledgeable and they come regularly. They leave notice on the door about what they did and why. Price is a bit high, even considering that it's organic.

The lawn is very good; it was in very bad shape before they started. They come a few times every year, and always leave a note explaining what they did. When I've called them with questions, they've always been very responsive. The only complaint I might have was that the price was a little high. Whenever they come, they leave a note detailing what they did which I really like. They also give great advice, and I am very happy with them.
