Nightmare company. We were given the name of this vendor by our home improvement contactor as he had supplied other quality companies. Not the case this time. We initially met with Eduardo ( CLEARLY the brains in this outfit) who reviewed the plan we had gotten from a local greenhouse. He provided thoughtful replies and suggestions and went over the sketch in great detail. He stated we would get a proposal soon from the owner Scotty Chapman. We did indeed receive the quote – a picture on a sheet of yellow legal paper – and agreed to the price with the understanding that additional plants were not included. Mr. Chapman then asked to meet us early on a Saturday morning to go over the plans again. We were not quite sure why this required another meeting but agreed to his request. Mr. Chapman appeared on the scheduled time and date. He was disheveled and after announcing his long history as a successful landscaper, informing us of his Caribbean house project and his hockey career, all of importance to him but not us, launched into a review of the project. Launched is a relative term as he did not have a copy of the plan, asked us for a copy and once he obtained the copy, could not orient himself to the property. Once again, Eduardo was the saving grace he quickly took over and indicated what was to transpire. Mr. Chapman did not apparently hear or appreciate that we wanted the provided plan and commenced upon his plan to change essentially all the orientation and plants. We told him no and to utilize the provided outline. On the agreed upon start date, Mr. Chapman directed Eduardo to demand a check for $2400 for the labor costs. This was not something that had been discussed at all and we provided the requested funds. My mistake here – we should have taken this as an omen and disengaged from what now was clearly a problem. We decided to install a flag pole in the front garden while the back yard project was underway. This information was relayed to Mr. Chapman with the definitive dates provided. He let us know this would not be an issue but that he wanted to know when the installation was complete so that he could plan a return date. The flagpole was completed and we notified Mr. Chapman via text as to a possible completion date for the front of the property. We did not get a response after a reasonable period of time and texted him again. He stated we needed to let him know when the project was completed even though this information was on the same text chain he was replying to. Once that issue was sorted out, Mr. Chapman asked for another payment, again in a very aggressive manner. When I inquired about his tone and that the inference being we weren’t reimbursing him, he became irritated and when I asked him why this bill was much higher than the quoted price, I got a lengthy text chain accusing us of all sorts of issues. He stated that the provided quote was now merely an estimate and that he had underestimated the labor time required. And this from a self aggrandized expert of 40 years. The last and final issue was the completion of the front bed. Mr. Chapman arrived unannounced with a truck load of plants, could not figure out how to turn the front hose on and then stated Eduardo ( now named the savior in our house!) would install all the plants the following day. Much to our surprise, there were not enough plants to complete the plan. When I texted Mr. Chapman as to why, I received an angry phone call, indicating I did not like him personally and that I was disrespectful in even asking him why ,as a self proclaimed expert of 40 years, he had grossly underestimated the number of plants needed. The conversation did not go well after that and Mr. Chapman indicated he was going to come to my house and remove all the plantings as a retaliation. As there are dozens of landscapers available on Cape Cod, I would advise any and all to avoid the three D’s that “Scotty” provides – Disingenuous, Disorganization and Diatribe
