A couple of days before I called Gaffney's Cleaning Service, I had a small fire in the pipe behind my woodstove, caused by creosote buildup. The chimney obviously needed cleaning. Rather than go back to my previous chimney sweep, I researched companies on Angie's List. Gaffney's called me back within minutes, and arranged to do the job the very next morning. He gave me tons of advice on how to keep creosote from building up, how to maintain and clean the stove, and how to properly use the stove. He also checked out my heating furnace setup and dryer vent, and gave me tips on that. He's friendly and a straight shooter; no bs, and no sales pressure. He took a little over an hour to do the job; efficient, but not hasty or rushed. And he's very reasonably priced. I recommend him highly and will call him again the next time my chimney needs cleaning!

I called on a Friday night after work and Jim returned my call within a half hour. He came the next day and did the work. He inspected both flues, brushed the one I use and installed the cap. He took the time to examine my dryer vent and told me how to improve my venting. Jim was excellent to deal with and I would highly recommend him.

Overall, great. He was on time, if not early, and very personable. We just recently moved into a home with a wood burning stove and he gave us tons of tips on maintaining the stove, buying quality wood, storage, etc.

I was in desperate search for a chimney sweep, and Jim came to the rescue! I am renting a house, and recently I smelled heating fuel. After the folks came out to check the furnace, they found that the exhaust flue for the furnace was completely filled in, which explained the furnace exhaust that was backing up into the house. I spoke with Jim's answering service person on Tuesday after the furnace guy told me I also needed a chimney sweep ASAP. Jim called me back within the hour, and offered to fit me in first thing the next morning. He showed up a bit early, and came in before the sun was up and got to work. He explained what he was finding with the flue, what the problems were, how he was going to try to fix things, etc. Unfortunately for him, the landlords had a cemented-on chimney "cap" put on the top of the chimney, so he could not see down into the flues, but he cleaned the furnace flue as best he could through the small access spaces so air was coming through it again. He also let us know where there should be carbon monoxide detectors, as there were not any when we moved in. Jim was very professional, quick to respond, took his time to make sure he could do the best he could. I am very pleased and recommend him very highly.

Gaffney Cleaning was able to give us an appointment to clean a chimney on short notice, arrived just at the planned time, and got the work done promptly and with minimal fuss.

It went great. Jim showed up 15 minutes early, spent time with me going over the chimneys and where repairs or issues existed, and most importantly what to do about them.

Very knowledgeable about chimneys, with many years of experience. I trusted what he said. Left the place clean. He came out to look at the chimney for free before quoting the work, then he came back a short time later to do the work. One man operation and he works seven days a week.

HE CAME ON VERY SHORT NOTICE AND HE DID AN EXCELLENT JOB CLEANING A HEAVILY CLOGGED CHIMNEY AND ADDED A CHIMNEY GUARD TO PREVENT MORE DEBRIS FROM FALLING IN. HE DID THE WORK UNDER A RAINY DAY AND I WAS IMPRESSED WITH HIS EFFORTS AND HE DID NOT WANT TO LEAVE EARLY OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT DESPITE THE WEATHER. HE WAS THERE TO DO THE JOB AND HE DIDN'T LEAVE UNTIL HE WAS DONE. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIS SERVICES.
