GAFFNEY'S CLEANING & CHIMNEY CLEANING

We were able to schedule Mr. Gaffney to clean our chimney the same week that we called. Most other companies were scheduling 3-5 weeks out. We appreciated his availability and his prompt arrival this morning. He gave our chimney a very thorough cleaning.

I needed to get the chimney in a condo swept very quickly as the condo was being sold and the work had to be done very quickly. Jim was very responsive, calling me back within a few hours. He initially agreed to come over the weekend to do the work but because of a cancellation he was able to fit me in during the week. Jim arrived on time, completed the job very quickly and was very good about making sure the new floors in the condo remained in pristine condition.

We had used Mr.Gaffney's services for several years and were always pleased with the results. We put in a call to try and make arrangements for him to clean our chimney again this year and were very disappointed. He was rude, told us he was booked 2 weeks out, complained that everyone waits until the last minute. and we should find someone else. We have. By the way Mr. Gaffney, we were able to be totally flexible with the scheduling - had you said 1 month we would have been fine with that.

Very thorough, very polite, and would highly recommend and use gaffney in the future.

We love this guy! We don't know much about chimneys, but he's very informative and has provided great tips. Last year was our first year in our house, and he did a full inspection and installed a cap. He's definitely punctual (usually early, actually), and does a great job.

It was fine. He came the same day I wanted.

It gives me such great pleasure to write a glowing review for Jim Gaffney. This man is a household name in Lowell, and now I understand why. I got an immediate call back from Jim after leaving a message with his answering service. Even on the phone I could immediately tell he was a pro, and also quite a character. I was able to make an appointment for the next Saturday (Jim works EVERY day of the week which is just incredible). Jim arrived Saturday morning exactly on time. We took a look at the three chimneys together and he provided very thorough explanations to me (and in terms that I actually understood). We discussed the scope of what needed to be done and he gave me the pricing up front...which I felt was very reasonable for the amount of work that was involved, particularly with one of the flues which had about 5 feet worth of soot. Jim was very considerate of the work space, laying down sheets so he would not dirty my home, and he managed to complete all of the work within a few hours. He gave me tips and tricks along the way and had some great recommendations. He also provided me with general information about my house which was very interesting since I have only lived here for about 6 months. What I enjoyed the most was simply chatting with Jim. He is full of interesting stories and has a sharp wit. It was truly a pleasure to have him in my home. Jim has worked so hard over his 40+ year career and has rightfully earned his stellar reputation. KEEP ON DANCING, JIM!

I'm pretty sure I covered everything up above. BUT he is the person I will be calling as soon as we make our decision on what we want to do.

I would highly recommend Gaffney Chimney. He absolutely went above and beyond. Not only did he design and build a new ventilation chimney in a very difficult space, but he removed the original, patched the site of the original, and cleaned all chimneys. He was fabulous, responsive, thoughtful, helpful. I would highly recommend him to anyone.

He had many helpful hints for safe and efficient use of my fireplace. He also inspected the furnace flu and clothes dryer exhaust. Again, he had lots of good information regarding every day use and care. I had been quoted $145 for the chimney to be cleaned and did not know what he would charge for his time. He was at my home for just under one hour and charged me $75, which I thought was very fair for what he did, all of the information he passed along AND he did not unnecessarily clean the chimney.

The provider arranged for a convenient date to perform the work. In addtion to doing a thorough chimney cleaning, he inspected other vents (furnace, dryer) to make sure they were operating safely. My dryer vent had accumulated so much lint that the exhaust was very clogged, and would likely have caused a fire in time. So, the cleaning was extremely timely. Mr. Gaffney gave me a lot of practical hints about ways to use my wood stove and dryer more efficiently. He is kind of like the "John Wayne" of the chimney cleaning service.

Canceled first week due to truck issues an hour before he was scheduled to show up. Okay I get it, stuff happens so we rescheduled for a week later. 30 minutes prior to show up he calls and very unapologetic tells us to find someone else because he can't find our street, doesn't come to our city too often, and has wasted too much time looking for it.That's how you run your business? You've now wasted two weeks of our time! Time we could have used to find someone professional. I would only recommend this company to someone I didn't like. I can only imagine what the work would have been like if he actually showed up. Perhaps it's a blessing that he didn't! Don't waste your time with this company as we did. Extremely unprofessional which, doesn't seem to bother him at all.

Mr. Gaffney was willing to work around my schedule and came to clean the chimney on a Sunday morning. He did the job by the book: climbed up the roof with his equipment and worked from the top. Then he throughly cleaned the fireplace, inspected the furnace and the water heater an no extra charge, and offered plenty of good advice along the way. He covered the floor with a drop cloth and left the room in a clean condition. Very positive experience.

We called on Tuesday and Mr. Gaffney called back first thing Wednesday morning. We were able to schedule our cleaning for that Friday at 10am. He was running a little late and did not show up until 12pm but was very apologetic. We are first time home owner so he went over everything with us and even showed us the proper way to light the fireplace. He was very thorough and left the house just as clean as when he arrived. Will definitely be calling him next year!

Every part of the chimney was examined and the pros and cons detailed. I really appreciated the helpful advice that he gave and potentially saved us repairs that the home inspector was recommending be done (if chimney professional agreed). The only drawback was that he misunderstood the timing of the inspection a couple of times.

We couldn't be happier with Mr. Gaffney's work. We chose him due to reviews on this forum instead of going with some of the larger outfits that offer discount coupons. We have two fireplaces that have not been used in 15 years, we wanted him to check everything out and clean what needed to be cleaned. The furnace also vents from the chimney so he checked out all three flues and we had him clean two at $175 each. He clearly has a lot of expertise in his field and answered a lot of our questions. He went above and beyond his scope by helping my husband carry a wood stove out of the house up a flight of stairs. We had an ugly old antenna on our roof near the chimney which he offered to remove while he was up there. He also instructed my husband in how to adjust the dryer vent so that a lot of extra tubing could be removed, and gave him a hand at that! He is quite entertaining too! Mr Gaffney clearly enjoys his work and is very personable. Though he may not be the cheapest out there, his prices are very good and he is well worth the money!!

Mr. Gaffney came early, worked efficiently and provided us with much useful information on how to properly care for our fireplace, as we are first time fireplace owners. He cleaned out our chimney and left the house just as he found it- no sign of any remaining dirt or debris. I would highly recommend Mr. Gaffney and his cleaning services.

I called about getting a quote to clean our fireplace chimney and received a call back right away. We made arrangements for him to come out the next day after he determined what time would easily fit into my work schedule. He arrived a little early and immediately started the job. He spread drop cloths over my living room floor to prevent soot from staining anything in the room and explained exactly what he would be doing. He inspected our dryer vent setup and explained how we could determine when the dryer was not venting correctly. The work was done quickly and efficiently with no traces of dirt or soot anywhere. When the chimney cleaning was done he informed us that the chimney was leaning away from the house and it would need to be repaired quickly. He explained possible causes and solutions and referred us to a mason for assessment, Mr. Gaffney was genuinely concerned about the chimney issue and went above and beyond to help us find a solution. He voluntarily returned to my home that evening to discuss it further and bought an outside dryer vent cover that he had noticed we needed when he did the dryer inspection. Then he called us back after we met with the mason to find out how it went! Mr. Gaffney knows how to provide excellent customer service. It is obvious from the first call that he wants to help his customers in whatever way he can - from trying to accommodate the customer's schedule, to educating about fire hazards, to how to build a good fire, I would not hesitate to call him again.

Mr Gaffney arrived a few minutes early and set to work. After the inspections he started cleaning the living room fireplace. He was very neat and finished the work promptly and even gave me a lesson in how to start a fire. We talked about chimney caps for both chimneys which I am considering. If I decide to make the investment I will have Mr Gaffney do the work.

Mr. Gaffney answered my call promptly. He arranged a visit to view the work, give me an estimate, and set a date for the work to be done. On the day of the job he arrived early, was very efficient, neat, and thorough. He had some good information about using a wood stove that I did not know. He explained what he was doing and why. As an added service, he inspected the dryer vent and had some useful advice on keeping it clean and safe. He even showed me the location of the filters in my new oil burning furnace - something the installers had neglected to do. I will definitely call him for stove and chimney cleaning next spring.

The overall experience was excellent. Mr. Gaffney returned my call immediately with and came over to inspect the chimney to determine the scope of work. He gave me an oral estimate of $350. He arrived a couple of week later to perform the work. It took about 3 hours to complete. He cleaned the bottom part of the chimney where debris had fallen down the chimney. He gave me a bill for $275.00, much less than his verbal quote. He is an honest man, which is very hard to find!!!!!!

Mr. Gaffney is very professional, knowledgable, and personable. He showed up ten minutes early - 7:20 AM - and got right into the work first checking the access doors to the bottom of the flues. I enjoyed dealing with him and will continue to use him in the future.
