It was okay. The gutter cleaning didn't go that well. He did did blew out the gutter and didn't necessarily hand-pick them all out. His demeanor was perfect.

I got them on Angie's List. He's intelligent, he's competent, he's very kind, and he always follows up on his work to make sure you're happy. He'll do anything to make sure you're a satisfied customer and he's very fair in his pricing, he doesn't charge too much, if he knows that you're trying to work within a budget, he will work with you. He's a very handy guy, and he seems like a friend too, he's really a nice person.
Description of Work: I am using the handyman services of Ed Koppelman of The Bolton Harvard Handyman right now. We had some squirrels breaking in the basement and made some holes so he's patching those up and when I moved out, the movers punched a hole in the sheet rock so he's going to fix that and he's also installing some deadbolt on the front door and the back door of the house but he's also done work like put new stairs on my deck, stained it, cleaned up the vent to the dryer, installed a new dryer vent, and power washed the house.

I found Ed by writing down the phone number on his truck. When I called, he was responsive, came over, looked at the jobs and provided an estimate. Sometimes he is busy, in which case he will let you know that he might not be able to complete a job at once. In the case of our shattered window, which was in the dead of winter, he jury-rigged a temporary seal and came back in the spring to complete the job. He always kept us informed as to when he would be able to work on a job, and his work has always been exemplary. We'd definitely recommend him for work in the Harvard and Bolton, Mass., areas.
Description of Work: Ed "The Bolton Harvard Handyman" has performed a number of services for us over the past few years. These include construction of a wooden window and frame shattered during tree-removal operations, Custom-building an rotted basement window (his most recent job) Repairing and painting a rotted porch deck.

I am an elderly woman living alone and can't do a lot on my own. I thought my kitchen light had an electrical problem but upon further review the bulbs had burned out. He replaced them and then hooked up the faucet for my portable dishwasher. Very pleasant and friendly and did good work. Will definitely use again.

I wanted to put a flat screen on my chimney but the mantel was too high and very dated. I decided to have it removed and was unsure where to begin. I contacted this handyman who returned my voice message within one hour. We agreed on a time the next day to provide an estimate for the work. He arrived promptly as scheduled. He looked at the job and agreed to come back later that day to remove the mantel. He stated he would have to charge me the minimum rate. He arrived as scheduled later that day. He placed a cover over the floor and began to work. He removed the mantel quickly. He asked if I wanted him to fill the screw holes and decided not to as they were not easily visible. He stated he would remove the mantel for me if I wanted. He did a great job, was punctual, tidy and professional. I would use him again.

I found them very good, I would say he is excellent. Reliable, he came when he said he would. He is mature. This is a bit funny; he apologized that he is a little more expensive than other people, which I think its probably true except he is faster than other people. I dont think he is expensive than other people. I would definitely use him.
Description of Work: It is close to a year, I would say last year Fall that I used THE BOLTON HARVARD HANDYMAN. He did work on the deck I have, he replaced some boards that was rotten and put wood preserves all over the deck, he did a couple of odd jobs.

I left Ed a message and he called me back about 2 hours later! Wow! We arranged for him to come by the next morning and he arrived right on time. He is easy going, easy to talk to, and I liked him immediately. We talked over the project - which was pretty simple, although dealing with my poorly built porch was a challenge - and while he doesn't give estimates, I asked for a rough guess which was right on. The lattice I wanted had to be special ordered and he got right on the phone and checked it out. He came by again to measure, and was clear about when he could start. He showed up at 8am sharp both days and got the job done. You know how having some workmen in your house or yard can make you uncomfortable? Not Ed -- he is great. My only regret is that I wish I had been a little more clear about EXACTLY how I wanted some details done. He did what I asked, and where I said I didn't care, he made his best guess.
Description of Work: After having extremely large, overgrown shrubs removed in front of my house, the lattice around the base of the porch was revealed, and it was broken and lacked any framing. Ed removed the old lattice and built a new one, with the proper wide frame.

I have never met this person, and have no recollection of who it is. I don't provide estimates, but do have a minimum charge per visit. If this person actually did have dealings with me, that I don't recall, I may have declined working for him/her because of their unreasonableness or rudeness.

He is very good. He did a beautiful job with the deck, which was actually quite a bit of work to do. He was very apologetic, because he said his rates were high. He charges $50 an hour, which is actually not high, because he works faster than any other handyman I've ever seen. I would hire him again without any hesitation.

We just bought an older home (1909) that was missing the railing on the stairs. Ed Koppelman came to look at the stairs within a day or two after I first called him. He explained the reasons why he never gives estimates and I was comfortable with that. He asked us to look around for the style railings, ballusters, etc that we liked and for us to call him once we made our design preferences. Then he came over and we discussed the choices I made and how he was going to go about doing the work. He asked me to email him the available times we had for him to do the job. We set up a time via email. I gave him my first and second choice of weeks but ended up getting our second choice. On the day promised, he showed up promptly and worked tirelessly straight through for nine hours drinking only ice water in the June humidity in my unairconditioned home. He asked for my opinion from time to time. He almost finished the job that day. The next day he put on the finishing touches and sanded. We discussed options for staining. He offered the option of him applying just the polyurethane finish but that wouldn't match the old worn darker stairs. I opted for applying a stain, which he doesn't do since I hadn't yet picked one out. I would chose a stain later on my own and my husband is planning on doing the staining. He offered to let us borrow some stain samples so we don't have to buy a lot of small cans and he left some wood scraps upon which we could try out the stains. He explained how to go about determining which stain we should use,how to apply it, and best clean up practices. My husband and I are very satisfied with his work and are planning on using his services in the near future.
Description of Work: Ed put up a railing for the staircase which goes from the first to the second floor. He replaced a newel post and modified the remaining one.

Ed did a great job. This was not our first project with Ed. We called him back because his work is always high quality and he is clean and neat. He always looks for ways to make tings easy for the customer and looks for real solutions not just quick fixes.
Description of Work: Ed came to repair the ceiling of the garage where two bathrooms had leaked. He suggested that instead that since future leaks could occur we might want to consider putting a "trap door" over the leaks instead of blue board, plaster and paint. We thought this was a great solution and appreciated hsi out of the box approach.
Prompt reply to initial inquiry; kept me informed of proposed fixes and options for each of above problems; worked efficiently, quietly, neatly to fix each thing. In investigating rotten wood on entryway, discovered problem was really with roof and indicated I needed a roofer to fix that (which I will do next.) Finished all projects within about a week of starting. Cleaned up trash and always was a gentleman and good guy.
Description of Work: a laundry list of projects: replaced four light fixtures; removed sliding doors and installed bi-fold doors on a closet; re-hung a closet shelf that was sagging; replaced damaged tile in shower stall; caulked inside of shower stall; removed/replaced rotten wood from house entryway and on side of garage; installed mailbox post.

Ed is punctual, neat, honest and clean. It took a few days to get the projects done (due to drying times, etc.), but he came at convenient times and interacted easily with an electrician there simultaneously. The steps and woodwork look great. What I appreciated was the advice he gave along the way -- to use PVC instead of wood in a couple of places, to fix the stone steps that I had not realized were fracturing, to insulate an attic stairwell I had not realized was leaking heat.
Description of Work: Ed did a variety of jobs, but best executed were some exterior woodwork and fixing of stone steps with mortar.

Although he was pretty quick to return my call, the communication went downhill from there. I described what I wanted, and he came up with some strange suggestions. He called back the next day and apologized, saying he was very tired and wasn't thinking straight. (Fair enough. It was early - 7:30, I think? - but different people, different schedules. I just wish he'd waited one more day to call, then.) But even then, we came up with a plan and he was supposed to schedule the work soon after. And he sort of disappeared on me. I waited a while and finally gave up and found a different handy person.
