"Thank you [Member Name Removed], it was our pleasure to work with you!"
This project went poorly from Day 1. After providing very little details on any aspect of how they would handle the job, we signed the contract hoping the communication would improve. They cashed our $7,000 check (40% of the job) on 4/17/13, and didn't show up until late August--to repeat, nobody came onsite for 4+ months. We have recorded voice mails blaming 'the rain' or 'broken down trucks', but always promising to be there 'the week after next.' When we originally signed the contract, we told them we wanted all the work done by July 4th. They said the 'would bump' someone else and move us up the priority list. This should have been our first warning. Here are some other lowlights:
1) Their tree removal subcontractor (which they didn't tell us about) chased us for money by home phone/cell phone/text because they weren't paid by Millenium (when we had paid in full). Their subcontractor cut down a neighbor's tree by accident and claims they have a text from Millennium approving this. We were caught in the middle and had no ability to control the situation as they showed up unannounced 4.5 months into the the project. It has strained relations with our neighbors. They planted 5 small bushes in place of a 25 foot arborvitae--not adequate compensation for a big error.
2) The Retaining wall in the backyard cut 1-6' off our property line. I would not have had this work done had I known this in advance. They were very matter of fact about this.
3) The sod was installed mid-November--approximately 1 week before our sprinklers were to be turned off. There is no guarantee on the sod
4) Millenium promised to come back and cut the grass--this was very important they told us. They never showed back up
5) After agreeing (verbally and in writing on 10/24 and 12/4) to include a fall cleanup in exchange for all the problems, they ignored every call after we had already paid them in full. I have to pay another landscaper to remove the leaves. They wrote this week to say this was for a 'spring cleanup'--despite emails we have explicitly stating the 'fall cleanup'
When they finished the job in mid November and I told them I'd pay them the next day (I did) after seeing the work in the daylight, the owner immediately 'invoked the terms of the contract.'
I believe they take jobs, use the down payment to make payroll, finish late jobs and/or pay off vendors. It's a shame as they used to do good work.
"[removed member name] was voted WORST CUSTOMER of 2013. Yes we do take deposits and we try our best to get to every job in early season. Unfortunately many large jobs end up getting extened and customers add work on creating us to move set dates and weather creates issues as we all know. At no time did [removed member name] ask for his deposit back which I would have gladly given to him. We had done work for him a few other times not only because our pricing is lower because we give QUALITY work as he knows. Unfortunately we had to bring in Canton Tree Company to remove a huge tree that was in the way of installation of his wall. [removed member name] was on the traveling most of the entire time this job was taking place so we did not tell him we told his wife who was a really nice customer. We had to sub contract the tree due to the size of it and we wanted an expert. Unfortunately the tree became an issue and the tree company ended up damaging the neighbors trees. This was not our fault and we did not pay Canton Tree because we had to replace shrubs that looked much better than the mess that was currently in the back of this yard all wild trees, and vines and such. We did finally paid Canton Tree after we hired a lawyer and need this all documented for the neighbors sake not the [removed member name] it was not his land. Anytime a wall or fence is installed you do not put it on the property line because if there is a problem down the road you would have to remove it that is why we back off the property a few feet. Not sure why he is saying 6' ? Yes we also stated we would cut his sod one time and when we went to cut his sod it had not rooted so we did not cut it. I had to demand our final payment which clearly reads on our contract payment is due in full on the day of completion but he insisted he was flying out and could not pay which made no sense. I finally contacted his wife for payment because as all small business we have bills that we must pay after a job is completed. Working with [removed member name] was a terrible mistake on our part a truly bad customer but his yard looks fabulous! How dare he say he is not happy and the quality is good no the quality is perfect. As I stated we did have a tree issue and in the 15 years of our business unfortunately things can happen such as this and we deal the best we can with issues from sub contractors. I want you to be the judge of our quality of work go and see his property in the backyard in Needham and you decide. We do not deserve his poor rating ! I feel maybe he may have taken on this big job at his house at our great price but financially maybe bad timing on his financial part is how he came across to me. You be the judge of our work we do hundreds of jobs with few complaints and I am sorry this tree situation created such problems. I also always return calls maybe not in the same day but we do call everyone back! This is my side of the story. Thank you."
- difficult to reach by telephone or email - never answer the phone, have to leave a message. some emails eventually get a response
contract stipulates that all payments are made on the completion day. this is strictly enforced. got a call at 8:30 pm on the same day as job was completed asking for payment to be made for pick up at 8:00 am next day
during the project asked to considerably expand the scope of the project. this would have added $10k to a $12k job
good quality of masonry work including walkway and steps
however, did not complete the repairs to the front of the house. explicit promises were made that this would finished after final payment was received. left front of the house exposed to elements and would not respond to calls or emails
They come unless it is raining and will try to come during the same
week unless a holiday.
They have the most polite workers and they are neat and clean up all
clippings beofre they leave my property.
No complaints on my lawn care it looks great when I enjoy it on
saturdays.
pricing but after seeing his work and references I chose him for my propety.
Thank you Bob you truly deserve the saying on your trucks that No one does it better.
"We thank you very much. JD"
