BOB RANDALL LOCKSMITH

We live in an old house and one night the key broke off in our front lock. We called the first company we found online and while they got us into the house, they destroyed the lock and door in the process (they ripped the lock out of the door instead of getting the key out of the lock) and cost $400. We found Bob on Angie's List and called him the next day and set up an appointment. Bob was on time and extremely knowledgeable (he explained to us how companies like the one we called that night are not really locksmiths because they unnecessarily break whatever they need to break to get you in). Since we live in an old house, we wanted the original lock put back in the door for aesthetic reasons. Although it had been badly mangled by the other company, Bob took it to his house and worked on it for a few hours to get it to work again! We were very appreciative of Bob's time and effort. He explained everything as he went along and was really just a nice person. I would highly recommend him to anyone.

He was great! He showed up on time. He did go slightly over on his estimate, but I was very happy with the service! I would call him in the future for locksmith needs.

Bob was a little late arriving, but he did call to let me know he was late. He started out explaining the costs to me and from what he explained I thought it would cost under $350. He didn't have a piece of equipment he needed and had to go pick it up from the store. He did a very good job and everything worked properly. He was very nice and courteous. However, the final bill was almost $100 more than I expected and I was a little surprised.

returned my call immediately, came the same day (after offering some ideas about how I might fix it myself), problem turned out to be more complicated but he figured it out and made the repair. As a plus, was friendly and didn't mind a 4-year-old trying to help out.

He was very pleasant to deal with. He repaired a broken piece of the front door lock. He took the lock with him and came back the next day after having welded the two pieces together. He had explained to me what he was doing. He had to lower the metal piece that was set inside the lintel. He relocated the metal piece and made some slight adjustments. The lock works well now. He was competitively priced.

I managed to totally jam a lock on an antique Japanese tansu... Not a job for your typical locksmith who only knows how to deal with modern locks. Judging by reviews on this list, Bob seems to be the right person to call for antique and unconventional locks. When I called him up he didn't blindly promise to be able to open the lock, but said he'd like to take a look at it. Since it wasn't an emergency (and I assume he was in the midst of something else), he asked me to call back the following morning to set a time; when I called him he came by within the hour. He took a diagnostic look at one of the other locks, explained to me how the rather unusual key mechanism works, and gently opened up the locked section without doing any damage to the lock or tansu. He told me which other drawers' locks were dodgy and which ones were safe to use; he also suggested that since the key is made of an easily-bent soft metal in an open structure I might want to get the key itself silver-soldered to reinforce and strengthen it.

Everything went great. I met Bob at the door, took a walk while he did his work, and returned an hour later to a job well done.

He was efficient, nice to talk to, and gave helpful advice. He told us a way to seal our door that would keep us from having to buy a new door.

He arrived on time and re-keyed the dead bolts. He discovered that we had a door lock that was not working properly so he replaced that lock. This added some time and expense but that was certainly understandable. He was pleasant and had no problem working around the commotion going on with some rehab work.

Bob couldn't make it on Thursday so he came out Saturday to do this work even though he doesn't normally work on weekends. He had to bore a larger hole in one of the doors to get the new deadbolt to fit. Also provided a few pointers on a couple possible repair items unrelated to the locks.

Our condo had a defective lock mechanism and it was hard to get the lock to engage without slamming the door. We would sometimes find the door ajar when someone leaving the bldg didn't remember to push it closed hard enough. The new latch has cured that problem. Also it appeared that at some point someone had attempted to enter the bldg using a crowbar. Bob came out the day I called him, gave me a price, went out to buy the equipment and installed it all in about an hour. The new strike protector and wrap around are to deter crowbar entrances.

It went really well. He let us know how much it was going to cost. He was very knowledgeable. He helped us find the right solution and he got the work done very quickly.

We have a nice 70-year-old house with a number of passage and privacy locks with tubular door latches that only work when you turn the knob in one direction. One of these vintage latches broke on our downstairs bathroom door so that the knob would not open the latch. I climbed through the window to get out of the room (scary). Because the door swings into the bathroom, I climbed back in to pry open the spring latch with a pen knife. The latch would not budge. I called Mr. Randall for help. He assured me that I was doing exactly the right thing, but noted that the broken part was probably jamming the latch. He suggested that I hammer on the door to dislodge the broken part. I did this, and, encouraged by his assurance, resumed prying with two knives. The latch glided open. What a feeling of relief! I called to thank him and noted that I have a number of these old half-broken latches, which are like time bombs, but for which I have not been able to find suitable replacements. He drove over the next morning and took a latch with him. He thinks he will be able to get me replacements. I am very pleased. I'll let you know how it goes.

He came the next day and replaced it. I would hire him again in the future and I would recommend him to others. I would give him A's on all the categories.

Our office had been broken in to. We wanted to move quickly to get deadbolts installed. We called and they gave us an estimate (which was exactly what the cost wound up being). I called on a Friday, they came on Monday morning. Showed up at 8:01am for an 8am appt. and was done by 8:25am. Would use them again if needed.

Mr. Randall was very helpful and patient and gave me all the information I needed. He didn't try to sell me any services I didn't need, he actually suggested I have less work done than I had originally requested. He volunteered some interesting information about an unusual key I had, and was generally very pleasant to deal with. I would recommend him to anyone.

Wow! Great experience overall. I needed to have my locks rekeyed after I learned someone who shouldn't still had access to my home. It was not an "I'm locked out and need immediate help" emergency, but it was something I wanted to address as quickly as possible. I called Bob at about 9:30 a.m. He returned my call within 5 minutes. He happened to be near my area, on his way to another job. He stopped by for about 5 minutes to give me a ballpark of the price and determine what kind of supplies he needed. He said he would be back in 2 to 2.5 hours to do the job and if anything came that would change the timeline, he would call. As promised, he was back at my house in 2 hours to perform the work. He was very quiet which is particularly important to me as I work from home, courteous and cautious not to accidentally let out my pets. He rekeyed each lock, made me extra keys and even helped me diagnose why one of my interior doors sticks.

He has very reasonable prices and I thought the work was done well. He came back on several occasions because the cylinder kept spinning. He ended up just buying a whole new lock and installing that. He kept coming back immediately every time with no complaints. He is a very nice guy.
