Description of Work: My initial contact with Archadeck was professional and timely-- they came out to look at the project and it was fine. It took them over 3 months to give me a formal estimate and then the estimate was $25K over all the other estimates I gathered for the same project with the same materials. I'm not sure if they were planning to use gold rivets but that inflated estimate screams, "I'm not interested in your project, find someone else". They gave an estimate of $55K to replace a modestly sizes double porch. That price range is equivalent to a kitchen remodel!

Description of Work: My wife and I decided to hire Archadeck of Suburban Boston to tear down our old dingy 12x12' deck and replaced with a 36' x 15' composite deck. Larry came by and gave us some material options, then once we decided to hire them, he came back with a 3D rendering of the proposed deck design. The design he showed us was perfect for our needs, and in the end was exactly what was built. | |We met Jim, the owner and project manager at a pre-construction meeting, where we decided where the dumpster and port-potty would go. We also went over some specifics of the job. We have 2 very little ones at home, so it was important to use to keep the top posts of the stairway clear of lights and railings as we want to be able to put a pressure gate there for when the kids are on the deck. | |Jay, the carpenter showed up and he was just awesome. Very friendly guy who works at a pace that allows for him to do the job right. Working with Jay really makes this a positive review, because he does absolutely superb work. | |Unfortunately, there are some negatives. If you are planning to work with Archadeck, I might suggest being very upfront with Jim that you like to be in the loop and that communication is important. Communication was very poor during this project - inside and outside. For instance, we asked that there be no lights installed on the lower part of the post so we could put a gate there, the light was installed in the wrong place. I asked that the porta-potty be placed next to my garage so it was easier to back in and it wasn't, it was placed next to the dumpster. Asked to have the electrical box installed beneath the door, and it was installed 12 feet to the right of it. | |Then came the mystery gaps in the project. There were 3 separate breaks where Jim pulled Jay from the job for 1.5 weeks, and then twice more for a week each. That added to about 3 weeks of a delay in the middle of the job, where of course my grill was out of commission. | |I did make an effort to tell Jim (because I would have to ask him when the job was resuming, we were generally kept out of the loop) that he needs to be better with communication, but there was no acknowledgement. | |All that said, in the end we got a beautiful deck - and yes, we would use these guys again. I would also suggest others use them, but of course heed my advice on the communication aspect.

Description of Work: Built a screened-in porch for us and renovated a breezeway into a part of the kitchen.

Description of Work: had Archadeck replace an old deck. They were a pleasure to work with. Worked with us on the design and made sure every detail was worked out before starting. Project was completed within estimated time and results are amazing. Although a little more expensive, they are worth every penny. I have never had such a stress free interaction with a contractor. Would definitely use these guys again.

Description of Work: I wanted to have a new deck constructed on the back of my house this summer and used Angie's List to find contractors for the first time. I called Archadeck and they were most responsive, professional and offered extensive services on deck design, plus a showroom where you see examples of the work first hand. I already had a design in mind that did not need further modifications. I did, however, have lots of questions about the various wood options and explored mahogany, cumaru and ipe with them. Although I liked them very much, I did not end up using them because their price was about 20% higher than the other bid and they were not available to do the job for another month longer than the other contractor. One of their advantages is that they can help with design and computer simulate the addition. That was something that I did not need and felt I was being charged for anyway. I needed some other miscellaneous fixes to the house while a contractor was there and wanted to hire only one contractor. While Archadeck said they could do everything, in reality, they were going to contract out some of it and that was something I wanted to have control of myself. The contractor that I did hire handled all the additional work personally. Also, they did not want to finalize the estimate completely until I gave them a deposit (so they could do the design work I didn't need) and I had never had that demand from any other contractor, so it set off some red flags. I think if I had gone through with it and was a client that needed design work, they would have been the better choice, although more expensive. As it was, I was completely satisfied with my other Angie's List contractor and the deck, in mahogany, is beautiful.

Description of Work: I met with ArchaDeck, who was very professional and could do a good job creating new screens for the porch, and providing plexi-glass inserts. However, their solution would be appr. $13,000, which is twice what I expected.

Description of Work: Archadeck designed and built a custom sunroom addition to our home to replace an existing open cement patio that was partially below ground level. Work included demolition, excavation, and removal of old cement patio, installation of two drywells, new foundation floor and walls, construction of totally finished all-weather sunroom with 5 skylights, 7 windows, mahogany interior steps leading to a door to the outside, plaster walls on interior, siding and all trim on exterior, roof, and all electrical work (lights, outlets, heating). Also included landscaping allowance.

Description of Work: 2ND TIME I HIRED ARCHDECK, 1ST A FEW YEARS AGO FOR DECKS THAT ARE THE MOST BEAUTIFUL EVER BUILT. THEN SUMMER 04, THEY REDID MY DINING AREA, REMOVED A GREENHOUSE AND BUILT A REAL ROOM. THEY MET ALL MY FUSSY REQUIREMENTS, INCLUDING BUILDING THE NEW ROOM AROUND MY CERAMIC TILE FLOOR WHICH I WANTED KEPT INTACT.
