Wonderful experience. Arrived when he said he would. He went above and beyond by repairing cracks I hadn't even pointed out! Very, very thorough and a most-pleasant personality as well. I have a wall that I need replaced and am going to ask him to quote...when the snow disappears!!

They were prompt, professional and courteous. Maguire Masonry shows up when expected and the work is impeccable. They removed all the wood steps and put in a brick and blue stone combined with crushed gravel which looks fantastic. They work hard and finished what was a fairly large job quickly; and they are very communicative and responsive throughout the process. At the end the hauled away all the debris and left the job site looking great. I am very impressed with the quality of the work and would use them again. I can recommend their work unreservedly.

Eugene Maguire and assistant were diligent and trustworthy. They did excellent work rebuilding a brick support beam and repairing other water and time damaged areas of the garage. They were also affordable, the lowest quote of the four vendors I interviewed. One estimate was as high as $15000. There were no requests to use the bathrooms etc, and we were not inconvenienced in the least. I would highly recommend this company for outstanding service. I did have a hard time understanding the Irish brogue, however. Ha ha Eugene!

With great reviews on Angie's list, I was surprised to find out that working with Eugene Maquire was such a challenge. He couldn't keep up his appointments (he said he simply forgot). We will never find out how his work is since he simply couldn't make the initial visit.
Description of Work: After 7 phone calls, one no-show and one rescheduling over a 2-week period with Eugene Maquire, I was exhausted and lost my patience in trying to scheduling a first visit with him.

Eugene was responsive and professional throughout the process. After coming to see the job, he was prompt with his quote, and kept me informed about when he would be able to start work. When he and his assistant Rafael started the job, they were on-time and efficient in their work. They were mindful of things we had stored in the basement (we moved some items out but couldn't move everything), covering them to keep them clean and dry. They cleaned up afterwards and we could move everything back down into the basement right away. The work looks good -- the brickwork and stonework have been restored, and they were thorough in sealing the steps as completely as possible, from inside and out. We have been through a couple rainstorms have not experienced any more leaks. Eugene also cleaned the steps with a restoration cleaner to try to remove some grime/rust stains from over the years. It didn't have much effect, but I cannot blame him as he applied the cleaner four times -- the grime is just too embedded in the stone to completely come out (at least not w/o something more aggressive like power-washing). Overall I am pleased with the work and would hire again.
Description of Work: Cleaned and caulked granite front steps that had been leaking into basement underneath; repaired and put new stucco surface over masonry in basement under those steps; repointed some brick and stonework in basement as well, including repairing some bricks that had deteriorated.

Done neatly and clean. No leftover debris. Stairs look like they're new again.
Description of Work: In addition to other work he has also done brick work, they replanted and took out bricks that were broken. They re-grouted the joints that reinforced the whole set of stairs. They took care of it and maintained it so it is saving me money in the long run.

He was with another man who is from Italy and had years of experience. You could see it with the way they both worked in sync together. It was done very professionally and they worked very neat, cleaning up the area as they went along. I was totally happy with the work done on my house and would highly recommend them to anyone. I also had Eugene go up on the roof to add flashing around my chimney because the last mason I had, never put the flashing around the chimney when it was built up from scratch back in 2006. It was an added cost of $650 dollars but it was worth it. Eugene not only put the flashing around the chimney but he also got me the right size chimney cap because the cap that was on there was broken and too small and the chimney had swallowed up the other cap. I can't say enough how good the 2 of them are and even when Eugene wasn't here, Raffaele was just as competent to continue the work on his own. I would consider them both an A+ and would hire them in a minute for any brick work that you need done.
Description of Work: He pointed the entire basement of my house. They cut into all the bricks and he mixed his own mixture of grout and filled in the empty spaces with this grout mixture around the entire basement.

I did NOT HIRE this vendor so Icannot review his work!
Description of Work: He did come to look at the job, but did so very superficially with no indication they could figure out the source of the problem. He was rude, quick tempered and I told him I decided to hire another outfit. He then tramped off saying he had wasted his time. NOT HIRED.

From start to finish, Eugene and Rafael did a terrific job. We have a 100+ year old house and the foundation had been painted red before we bought the house. The paint was flaking and the mortar was in pretty bad shape. Eugene and Rafael brought our foundation back to life. All the loose paint was scraped off. They dug down 6 inches to 1 foot all around the house to make sure the foundation would be repointed below the ground as well. Then they grinded out all the old mortar and repointed the entire foundation. I now have a brick foundation that looks as good as any on the block. Eugene and Rafael are both really friendly guys too. I was able to ask them questions as they went along, and they made sure they double-checked with me before proceeding on certain things. Very pleased with the work.
Description of Work: Repointing of brick foundation. Included scraping of old flaking paint, digging down 6 inches to 1 foot below foundation, grinding out old mortar, and repointing with new cement.

Eugene was great! He looked over the entire building with us ahead of time, and was good about helping us identify places that did need work and those that didn't. Work started when he said it would, and proceeded without hitches. The cuts in the old mortar were nice and deep, and the repointed mortar is nicely finished. Final cost stayed within the original estimate. Overall, he was a pleasure to work with, and the quality of the work is excellent.
Description of Work: Repointed the entire front of our building, and applied water sealer. Selective patching spot-repointing on the sides and rear porches. Oversaw the replacement of rotting trim on the front windows.

After completing some masonry work on our house earlier in the Spring, our condo association brought Eugene and his crew back to re-point an exterior brick wall. Eugene quoted the project at the lower end of the five estimates that we received and completed the project within the 2.5 week timeframe that he established at the outset. In addition, the project included some logistical challenges with erecting scaffolding on our abutting neighbor's property and Eugene did an excellent job of making sure that all parties were satisfied throughout the entire process. In an effort to complete the work within the stated timeframe and to minimize disruption to our neighbors, Eugene and his team even worked on Saturdays. The quality of Eugene's work is very good. Eugene's team also did a great job of containing the dust created by a project of this size and kept the job site very tidy. Our newly pointed wall looks great. Eugene and his team were always punctual and thorough, making the experience hassle-free from start to finish.

From estimate to finish, Eugene delivered. In April/May, when he provided us with the estimate, he told us our position in the queue and when he expected to be able to get to us. He was spot on with his prediction and contacted us by email and phone the Friday before he was to begin. The estimate we received was lower than the other companies we contacted and was devoid of unnecessary extras. We appreciated that he kept the business focused to the matter at hand. On the day that work began, Eugene arrived promptly at the time that he said he would and put in full days until the job was done. The end product is a nice smooth stucco finish on the front of our house. We are pleased with the work he did and would hire him again in the future, if there were further masonry needs.

We had been experiencing water issues with the bricks of our condo building. Eugene responded promptly to my request to provide a quote/assessment of the work needing to be done and arrived exactly at the time that we had agreed upon. Eugene was very thorough in his assessment of our bricks, spending roughly 30 minutes identifying and suggesting potential fixes to our problems. Eugene was prompt in sending over a quote for the three separate jobs and I believed his quote to be very reasonable given the specific fixes that he prescribed (versus the four other bids that I received). After our condo association made a decision to proceed with Maquire Masonry, Eugene was able to come the following week (and with his assistant) completed the work in under three days. I'm not a brick mason, but the quality of the work appeared very high. Sometimes the biggest challenge with any home maintenance project is just getting the contractor to show up, let alone seeing the work done well and done to completion. I was very satisfied with Eugene and his assistant on all apsects of the job from arriving at the times we agreed upon, to completing the work in a thorough manner, to the value/price of Eugene's work versus his competitors. I would not hesitate to utilize Maguire Masonry again in the future.

Maguire himself was a fine to work with. An Irish mason with an Italian helper - can't get any better than that, best of both worlds :) They understood what was needed and what was desired. I was a bit finicky on the look, but he took it all in stride, the extra communication. What put us both in an awkward position was actually using the Angie's List Big Deal. It was $200 for $400 of work. Typically on any job you'd like to get three quotes for the work, but with the deadline on ordering the Big Deal, unless you're really on the ball, you're forced into making a "blind" decision. In the end, you're trusting that the the operator is in fact giving you $400 for $200, and not just inflating his price - see the potential for controversy? How do you check if in fact you're getting a deal? I won't be using the Big Deal again, unless as I mentioned I have time to check what their real quote is before the Big Deal offer expires. Maguire was honest enough to give his daily rate for he and his guy, and in the end, the bill reflected appropriately the discount.
Description of Work: Had partial stone retaining wall (only 3 stones high) in disrepair. He took care of buying the stone (I found it, he had it delivered), and rebuilt the wall. I also included two bluestone steps in the middle of the wall. Had a flagstone path that was coming out of its setting. Maguire reset the stones and grouted. 6 months later, no cracks, looks as good as the day it went in.

We had some mis-communication around meeting for the estimate, but that was partly my fault. Eugene took a look at the project without me there and gave a rough estimate, and when I decided I wanted to move ahead we met and worked out a more detailed plan for the project. It was about 3-4 weeks before he could start but in my case that was OK. Once the job started Eugene and his associate Rafael worked quickly and cleanly. The job took about 3 days, and the repaired walls (which are about 100 years old) are sound and look like new. In addition, he made some additional stucco repairs that I hadn't specifically asked for. A nice touch, and it shows that he cares enough to do the little things that make sense when you've got the tools, materials, and labor on site. Finally, Eugene was happy to answer any questions I had and accommodate additional work requests at a reasonable price. I would certainly hire him again and recommend him.
Description of Work: Eugene repaired a foundation wall that was crumbling on both the interior and exterior. They chipped away unsound concrete, formed and poured new concrete to bond to that, and stuccoed inside and out to provide a uniform appearance.

The project went very well. Eugene was a professional and a straight-shooter. He was easy to work with as was his assistant. He was there when he said he would be, and was good about calling if anything would change. The chimneys were in difficult locations due to the various hips and ridges of the home's roof line, however he set up roof brackets as needed to perform the work. After Eugene removed one of the chimney caps, he informed me that it was in no shape to be reused so he ordered one and installed it just two days later. The rebuilds look great, I am very pleased with the results. The waterstruck brick provided the historic aesthetics I was looking for from the original chimneys. Overall the project took about 2 weeks. I had obtained several quotes for the work, most were much higher.
Description of Work: Maguire Masonry rebuilt two chimneys at my late 1800's Victorian. One had a severe lean, and the other was bulging. Both chimneys were rebuilt from the roof line with new waterstruck brick, replicating the original dimensions and corbels. The existing chimney caps were going to be reused, however one was in poor condition so it was replaced. New lead flashing was installed. Staging was installed to get access to the roof.

It took 5-6 weeks between the day he came out to estimate and the day the work actually happened (that Big Deal was too popular!), but none of it was urgent and he did warn me at the estimate that it probably would be that long, so that was fine. There were two men out doing the work so it only took a couple of hours, which was great. He took the time to show me the detail of the gate repair, and also where the hinge is deteriorated so we have to be careful of the repaired latch until we can replace the gate hinge (ironwork) -- that's important to know, very helpful. I was not so pleased with the amount of brick pieces left in my yard; the man who replaced the broken bricks in the wall didn't clean up well. Overall, a competent job.
Description of Work: We took advantage of a Big Deal offer to have some assorted repairs done -- re-setting the latch of a wrought-iron gate into the brick wall that had crumbled out around it, replacing bricks broken out of the wall, some small mortar work.

Bought an Angie's coupon. It took a wile to reach Eugene because he was quite busy, Once I got his attention, it went very well, except for one thing I would prefer to do differently: I would prefer to actually meet with Eugene and be there when he went around to inspect the foundation (would like to see what he saw and learn from this).

He always goes over above. He is a 2 man show and is scheduled out for usually a month or 2. He always managed our expectations regarding when he would arrive giving us at least a week notice. If it rained a lot, he called to let us know that he would be pushing off start for a few weeks etc; an amazing communicator. His pricing is probably much less than you would expect, but his work is unbelievable. He gets other jobs in every neighborhood he works in because people see the quality of his work. Feel free to email us to see the work he has done for us. we have used him at least 6 times. My wife always recommends him as she is a RE Broker.
Description of Work: Eugene has performed following services for us: Repointed a 4 story apartment building.. found everything that needed pointed and went over above including finding walls on interior that needed pointing badly that we did not know about. the pointing matched so well we could not tell where he pointed! rebuild front brick steps/piers/columns on home that were over 75 years old with matching. we were told by another vendor that we needed to re-pour a concrete patio above our garage that was going to cost over 6000 to fix. Eugene pointed out that some broken bricks in bottom of wall were probably the problem, He replaced and fixed and sealed saving us over 5500.00
