I purchased an Angie's List Big Deal for this service and it was very good. We did not have any major inconveniences because I just used them to repair some leaks around the house. They did a great job and were efficient, courteous and on time. It was wonderful, no problems.
Description of Work: I used Papalia Plumbing & Heating to repair some leaks around my house. They helped us with a kitchen faucet that had a major leak. We also had some problems with leaks in a sink downstairs. They tightened everything up and replaced the things that were causing the leaks.

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. It was okay. They did look into a few things but it was sort of average. The guy who came was pretty knowledgeable. He was good and gave good information. It wasn't what I understood as part of the deal. The price was high. It was more of an inspection. The guy was good and he did his job.

After I indicated that there were some issues with the original installation, the owner of the company personally called me and offered me to assist in addressing the issues I was having. He came in with the technician where I showed them the issues. They acknowledged the issues, set up an appointment and promptly fixed the issues. Now the system is working really good. I really think that a business where the owner has a personal stake in making the customers happy is a really great business and I would highly recommend anyone considering a central air install to consider Papalia for their needs. They are very professional and also economical. If you have any issues, with the install, I would recommend calling them directly, as they are very responsive and will immediately come out to resolve your issues. I really appreciate the people working in the attic when it was very hot. The provider is great and I would highly highly recommend using them for any heating and plumbing needs. If I have any more needs come up, they will be the first people I will call.
Description of Work: This was a follow up to the AC installation performed on the 28th of May. The original installation was not working as expected, so a follow up was made to fix the issues. The original cost was $14,500 but the follow up cost was $0.

Careful work, high quality, good service. First faulty equipment then high water pressure in the house led to one outdoor faucet needing to be replaced twice. (Plumber knew about the water pressure beforehand. However, he returned promptly to install the proper equipment when the standard new faucet failed.) High price! Papalia charges by the job, not by the hour.

Approximately 10 days ago our central Air Conditioning Unit stopped working in the middle of the night. We called Papalia and they couldn't come to our residence for at least 8 days but it was fine because we ended up going away on a week long vacation. They ended up finding the problem within a 1/2 hour of being at our house and quickly replaced the part for an extremely reasonable price. Very happy overall with the service.

The job was done expertly and professionally. It was easy to schedule the appointment, and the technician was on time and very professional. The price was quoted from a published list, but was a little expensive. I would recommend them, but make sure you get a price quote for the project beforehand. The voucher I had was subtracted from the job quote I received when the technician arrived.

Basically the plumber came, was here about 45 minutes, was able to get two of the sinks running better, could not do anything with the third, but did explain that the piping there had not been done properly. So the experience was certainly professional. He also suggested that we replace one of the toilets in the future.

Decided to try their offer through Angie's List: pay $100 for $200 worth of services. The problem was that it was a confusing offer which you don't get a handle on until you're in the thick of it. They really do very little in services and minor parts for $200.

This is the worst possible kind of contractor. I am very skeptical about all the good reviews they have here on this site. I had an appointment for this morning at 7:30 and no one showed up. When I call them an hour later, they tell me that their technician must have been there but didn't find anyone at home. When I explained that that wasn't possible because I was home and that they could have just given me a call, they said they would investigate and call me back. Then, surprise surprise, no one called me back. Any company that is capable of treating customers like this should not get any business in the future.

I am sorry you went thru this. If it could have been avoided I am sure we would have installed your humidifier and you would have been happy with our service. As a service company we make decisions in the field and never want to drive to a customers house and not be able to connect with them. I would like to explain what we did that morning to try to connect with you, again I apologize we were not successful. There was definately a series of miscommunications: We showed up at the house at 8:09am and left at 8:20am (confirmed by gps and a phone call from our tech), when we knocked at the door the person who answered said they never called for service, the tech called the phone number on file and asked for [removed member name]. The person who answered the phone said I am [removed member name] but I never called you for service. We then got a call back from [removed member name] to reschedule, which we did. Then [removed member name] called back to cancel. Are there 2 [removed member name]'s? We do not avoid jobs on purpose. Miscommunications happen but we try to keep them to a minimum. The review seems pretty harsh under the circumstances. We will continue to try our best at all aspects of the service business including communication with the customer! Thank you, Jim Papalia, Owner

Smoothly. The service pro had installed my new water heater as well. I had full confidence and security in his expertise and felt no hesitation about leaving him to attend to the business he was hired to do. He was courteous, informative, and made an extra effort to save me more money. Papalia Plumbing and Heating has twice provided service to my home and each time I have come away a satisfied customer.

They responded and did satisfactory work. He stayed for two hours and fixed the problem. However, they placed a "Gold Club" charge on my receipt that they did not mention or explain to me. I saw it after he had left. I called them, but they could only partially explain the benefits of the program.

The work was listed on an estimate sheet for regular pricing and for Gold Club Member pricing. The difference is exactly $0.50. You chose the Gold Club pricing which included the cost of $98 for the GC Membership. The Gold Club comes with many benefits and money saving offers and you are getting it almost for free ($0.50) in this case because the job costs that much less when you are a Gold Club Member. When Adam transcribed it to the invoice he did not also write in the costs for the regular pricing so you cannot see the discount. (I will require that in the future.) If you do not want to be a member there would be a $0.50 reimbursement. I have a great brochure that lists all the benefits if you would like me to mail it out, they are also listed on our website papaliaplumbing.com. I hope you keep the membership and are able to use the many benefits. Sincerely, Jim Papalia, Owner

Everything was perfect. Finally, I have found a plumber that does everything right the first time. I had stockpiled a lot of plumbing problems into one visit, and they are all fixed in a high-quality manner. I got an appointment within two days of asking. In addition to excellent workmanship, it was so very convenient that the plumber's truck was well-stocked with everything he needed to offer me choices : differently priced kitchen faucets, different sizes and quality of garbage disposals, parts for rebuilding the tub faucet. About that faucet, others had said it required a tear out of the wall and complete replacement; Papalia rebuilt the existing one and it's fine now. He quoted everything first, documented it, and then did what he said he would do for that price. He was very efficient, personable and professional, and cleaned up so I didn't even know he had been here (except of course that all of my plumbing works now). He also didn't mind giving advice and suggestions about other plumbing and water system questions I had on my mind.

They came out and reviewed all the projects that we had set for them. They told us that the Big Deal only covered the trip charge and to look at the problems we had laid out for them. They said that they would start charging for the individual jobs afterwards, and claimed the Big Deal didn't cover any of that. We showed them three little mini-jobs and would have had to pay extra for that. They left within fifteen minutes. We found this very misleading and deceptive, and wanted the refund for our deal.

We have a $39.50 dispatch fee that is waived for all of our Angie's List customers. If trouble shooting is needed, we have a reasonable fee to investigate but it could be waived or adjusted if the customer chooses to do the work. I apologize if the owner has had a bad experioence with a flat rate service company in the past. We are flat rate and are very reasonalbe and offer high quality service to each of our customers. My technician made a note on the invoice that after looking at an assortment of plumbing jobs he brought out his Papalia flat rate pricing book and the homeowner only wanted him to leave the house. The homeowner did not want my technician to price any of the jobs from the price book. I will be happy to meet with the homeowner and price up the work if desired. Thank you, Jim Papalia, Owner

I wasn't too happy with them. They didn't have any service below $200 and just to change my faucet was $215. The others charged me $130 to do the same job. The work they did was fine but their price list had nothing under $200. I won't use them again. They quoted $600 for the other plumbing job I asked them about.

Sometime in May, after several phone calls (but no other problems with the basement), the man called and said that it would cost $13,000 to fix the pipe. Yes, you read that correctly, $13,000 US Dollars. I asked why this is was so astronomically high and more than he originally told me. He gave me a song and dance about town permits, having to block the street, yada yada (we live on a dead end, btw). I said that this was really high, I wasn't sure we could afford it. I asked him to send a written quote with a breakdown of what was costing what.......I've never heard back from them - it's been months. After talking to some neighbors, and then the town DPW, they said it was crazy that they were trying to get us to do this. The problem would require a snaking of the pipes once a year, and the DPW would be more than happy to do whatever they could for us before we had to call in a plumber. Needless to say, I am extremely disappointed with this company. Will never use again, and certainly won't recommend them to anyone else.
Description of Work: Had previously used Papalia for another plumbing service, we called them in January when water started leaking through our basement wall after showers. They came over promptly, seemed nice, had me pay $500 to put a camera down the drain to see what the problem was. They said that though they couldn't really see anything, they knew that the pipe that brought our water to the town sewer was compromised. Roots had grown in and parts of it were collapsed. The guy told me that it would be an expensive fix because we would have to excavate, but said it wouldn't be more than $4,000. They cleaned out the pipe the best they could and said they would send a quote.

It took a while to get the appointment scheduled. The guy that was recently added as a supervisor came in to write up the job (he said they purchased his company from him and he works as a supervisor now). He said he would put together an estimate including a "power booster" by the end of the day (Friday). I didn't receive the estimate for a week and called to find out when I would receive that. I received the estimate shortly after, not sure if I would have heard from them had I not called. The estimate included the booster, but they didn't install the booster, said it wasn't needed, but charged me the same price from the estimate and didn't give me the Angie's list rebate of $30. The guys that came in to do the work were professional, did a good job, but they didn't have the filters with them and said the supervisor would bring them by the next day. It's been over a month now, several emails and phone call messages to them later, and I still don't have the filters, so my A/C has been running without filters for over a month. In my last email to their office, I let them know they could just drop them off and I still haven't heard back from them. So, I'm not sure why they have such a good rating on Angie's list. The trouble seems to come from the supervisor that doesn't follow up and make sure the job is finalized and doesn't do what he said he would do. I don't know if I should go out and buy filters or what.

The installation went ok. Before the install, the provider said it will be 2 days to install the system. When they actually did the install, it took them 3 days and I had to fight with them to get the system started on the 3rd day since it was very hot. They were planning to do it on the 4th day, which was ridiculous. In addition to that, they had to install the air handling unit in the house and when we came home in the evening there was dust everywhere. They had said that they would clean up which I think they did, but was not as clean as I would have expected it to be. Me and my wife are allergic to house dust and she is still suffering from the cough she got. I escaped without much issue. Our house is east / west, so we get a lot of sun on the west side in the evening and especially in summer. So that part of the house remains warm. I thought that they would install 2 zones, but they only did one. Due to the east / west house and 1 zone, it gets really cold in the bedroom but remains warm or comfortable everywhere else. I am not even sure if they have done it right. If I stand below the duct that is supposed to be a return for the air, I can feel cold air coming out on me. I am not sure if it is supposed to be that way. Before the installation, the guy promised a 30 point inspection and said that he walks through with his crew and also with me. When he came with the final invoice, he never walked me through the 30 point inspection and said he did it with the team, but he was never on site to have done that with the team. So I am not very sure how well the job was done. So far other than the issues listed above, the system seems to be working fine, but overall I am not very happy with the provider. I think potential members should shop around and look for other providers which might be better. These guys just seemed good due to the price they charged. In the price above, they installed the Trane XL16i system which is supposedly an efficient system and in addition, installed the complete air duct system and air handling unit and also upgraded my electrical panel. So overall was cheaper than other quotes I had got, but in retrospect, looking at the work, I am not a 100% sure if I made the right choice.

The plumber was very professional and courteous. We had no hot water and called Papalia and they scheduled something the same day. We are a Gold customer because it ended up saving us some money on a larger job we had them do last week. The plumber arrived on time and diagnosed the problem quickly. I asked the price of the repair and was told $240. That seemed like a lot, and the plumber said he didn't know the cost of the actual part. I was upset since we just paid them another $2200 the week before on a new toile, bathroom faucet, aqua stat and assume thing to lower the pressure in the house. I should have done more research, but I felt under pressure to get the issue fixed and had him install the new part. Meanwhile, I went upstairs to google the cost of the part and discovered that it only cost $10 and the repair was a simple one that I could do myself. Within 20 minutes of arriving the entire job was done and it was too late to have him stop the work. While it's not dishonest of him to keep that to himself, I have lost trust in e integrity of the company. I would be much more willing to continue going back to a company that would diagnose a problem and then tell me that the repair was simple. I feel swindled in a way. I mentioned is to the plumber and he was kind enough to apply a coupon for $30, which does help a little, but doesn't make me feel any better about returning as a customer. Find a plumber that you can trust and do your research first! I've learned the hard way and hope you don't fall into the same trap!
