This job got progressively worse as time went on. Initially, Dominic and his team took longer than expected to order the stone. It then was delivered well before they started work and sat in front of our apartment for several days. When he actually did the work, he increased the size of a few cracks in the surrounding stone (though we were willing to forgive this as we understood there was some risk here). He had promised to match the mortar for a few patch areas as closely as possible to the stone, but he didn't even make an effort (the patch looks light gray against a brown stone when it is dry and yellow-brown against the brown stone when wet). When he left, the patch jobs were rough and jagged and his team didn't bother to rinse off the stone when they left so there were a large number of off color patches where mortar was left behind. Our condo-manager paid him before the job was checked, and so by the time that we checked it, Dominic was gone. We asked him to come by to fix it and he said it was "too cold" to do any fixes. Flash forward a few months (the spring) and we asked him to come by and make the repairs. During this time, the crappy mortar that they used had started to separate from the stone, so there are now open cracks between the mortar and the stones - which we are afraid will allow water to get in and fracture the steps this winter. It took forever to get him on the phone and when we finally did, he said he would make the fix that week. That week turned into the next, and by the time we called him back, he said it was "too hot" to do the fix. Operating within this narrow temperature range meant that we had to wait another two weeks before he came by to do the repairs. At this time, he did a rush job smoothing over the rough patches and trying to wash away the left over mortar/cement patches (which had set during the intervening 8 months). He made no effort to fix the cracks but said he would "come back." That was almost six weeks ago. We have contacted him again, but have not heard anything and are writing this review with the hope that he will finally finish this 2-day job before we cross the one year mark. Not sure if he was overpriced (stone is expensive, and stone work is either expensive to do, or just a rip off), but the quality of his work is poor. I'd suggest that anyone look to someone else. We have worked with him in the past (which is why we hired him for the stair job), and on reflection his old work has had the same low level quality, but has been done in less visible places (a brick wall that is already falling apart after 2 years and a parking area which is no longer level (after 4 years).
Description of Work: Dominic and his team replaced some stone steps in front of our brownstone. This required ordering stone to match the building (as well as he cold), taking delivery of the stone, removing the existing steps, leveling and installing the new stone, and then cementing everything in with some mortar.
