I arrived home at 9pm to find that my boiler was making no heat. Being relatively new to the area I had not had the opportunity to make contact with any service providers to date. After calling 6 providers Joe at Main Stream was the only return call. 45 minutes later (at 10:45pm) he arrived, diagnosed the problem and returned by 9am the following morning with the proper part to get the boiler working again. Great service -punctual - polite - professional!

our heat went out 2 days before Christmas and needless to say we were in panic to get it fixed before the holiday, especially with a 1 year old in the house. We called a couple other places that that said they couldnt come until the next day, but Main Stream Mechanical came right out when we called and fixed the broken piece on our furnace.

This company seemed much more knowledgeable and thorough than any plumber we had previously called and spent a lot of time assessing the situation and making reasonable recommendations. We were all impressed with their knowledge (taking time to dig into the details, figure out the right path ahead etc)

Main stream came within an hour after I called for an appointment. I was not around, but the repair was done well, and I was told that they explained the issue and fixed it without a problem. The pricing seemed a little high for the job, but after I called, the owner of the company called back to explain in detail the pricing. I have been looking for a good HVAC company and so far Main Stream has been the best yet. I would use them again and recommend them if asked.

My original appointment was canceled because the technician was ill, but Main Stream Mechanical called me the day before the appointment to re-schedule. Joe arrived on time Friday morning. He was efficient, personable and very helpful. He also showed me the location of the air-handler filter and gave me a portion of the cardboard from the old filter containing the part number. Her also advised me to change the filter whenever heating or cooling season begin. I am very satisfied with the service that I received.

Excellent. Very satisfied with Eric and his company and would highly recommend if you want honesty and professionalism. I really value Eric's time, insights, and candid approach to not sell me anything I didn't need. If I do purchase a direct vent stove for the house, I will definitely call Eric and Main Stream Mechanical to hook up the propane portion of the stove.
Description of Work: No Work Performed Yet - Free Estimate: Eric from Main Stream Mechanical came out to give me a free estimate to install a propane forced hot air system in a small cottage I just purchased. Eric was very direct and candid and after looking at the basement (which only has 6 foot high ceilings) and the square footage of the home (less than 750 sq. ft) suggested that the direct vent propane Rinnai wall unit that is currently installed is fine for the space. Due to the size of the home, he said that even with the smallest furnace he could get, he said the furnace would still be too large for the home as they are meant to run and this cottage would heat up too quickly. Then the furnace would be shutting off too frequently, a good way to burn out the heat exchanger. (Not HVAC technical but it was something along these lines). He said if I really wanted one he could do it but it would be over 8K which was over my budget. BUT he does it the correct way with metal ductwork, insulation etc, no flex duct. He suggested I remove an un-vented propane stove and maybe replace with a direct vent one if I wanted extra source of heat and ambiance. He also suggested a small electric baseboard for in the bathroom and if A/C was an issue, a window unit in the bedroom would probably be enough to make the home comfortable on hot days. Eric was the fourth HVAC company I had out to the house. Two others tried to talk me into the Heat Pumps/Mitsubishi etc. mini-splits but Eric did not and said they are ok but if as the temperatures drop, so does their heating capabilities. He said that they really don't work well under 15 degrees F. Which is what I had heard before so he basically verified that again for me. One company did say they could put in the forced hot air system but when I mentioned the price, Eric just said that they probably would run flex duct all over and use a cheaper furnace. And since this company wouldn't give me a written estimate, I opted out.

Mainstream Mechanical's staff were all extremely professional and helpful. The description and pricing of services were the same or better than the muliple other quotes I aquired, and the estimate was spot on the actual end cost. The office manager was helpful with scheduling, flexible with payment, and even prefilled out the all the rebate forms and the manufacturer registration to make sure I got extend the warranty; and the technicians were respectful of our home/space, were ready and willing to answer all questions and concerns, and went out of their way to keep the place in order. I think they may have left my basement cleaner than how they found it! There work is impecible they reconfigured my gas lines to be ABOVE code and put the vent lines exactly where I asked to minimize the space the unit takes up in the basement as well as the cost in the materials to install it. They completed the installation on time and made sure everything was working before they left. They went above and beyond in every way they could to make sure I had a great experience with this company and would recommend them to anyone thinking about upgrading from oil to natural gas home heating.
Description of Work: Mainstream Mechanical and their team provided a free estimate of the costs (which they adheared to down to the penny). They also installed a natural gas boiler and indirect hot water heater as well as coordinated with other companies to remove the old system (oil boiler and water heater), wire the electrical, and complete the city inspection.

Main Stream Mechanical showed up at the time they said they would (8:00am). Over the course of a day and a half they cut out and removed the old oil boiler and installed a new gas boiler, and connected it to the existing plumbing, chimney and gas line. Meanwhile they managed their subcontractors to pump out, dismantle and remove the old oil tank and to install the necessary electrical connections. On the last half-day they powered up the boiler and verified that everything was working. The two Main Stream Mechanical guys who did most of the work, Will and Jim, were thorough and left the basement as tidy as it was (or even moreso) as before they showed up. Think about it: they cut some major pipes, knocked two holes in the chimney, bored through the exterior wall of the house, and when they left the only thing left behind as evidence they were there was a new, working gas boiler and new air intake fan. This fell outside the scope of installing the boiler but they also installed my new thermostat and later, during the meeting with the town gas inspector, fixed a leaking radiator valve. To say I'm delighted with Main Stream Mechanical is an understatement. I will definitely call them again if I need heating or cooling work and I am happy to recommend them. They are not the cheapest but their proposed costs were in the same neighborhood as other quotes. In any case, especially given my satisfaction with the job they did and the apparent quality of the work, I feel I got a very high value from them.

All went well at first with the removal until I realized they did not remove all of the return air duct. I was told by the installer Joe that was because it was part of the structure of the house. Wrong! I removed it myself. Then when it came to installing the registers Joe had overheard that I had planed to put a new floor over the old wood floor so asked if it was ok to use old locations for the new registers. I said sure not realizing that it was up to me to fill in the extra space left over because of the difference in size. Joe refused to relocate the kitchen register because of the quary tile floor or install a register in our back room. The filter was put into the furnace without a filter holder. I did not realize this until I went to clean it for the first time. Joe blamed this on Brenda in the office. Realy! Also there was never any follow up by Eric the owner.
Description of Work: Removal of old gravity feed warm air system and all duct work. Removal of oil tank. Installation of gas forced warm air system with A/C coil and all duct work. This was to include heat to all rooms on first floor, base board registers, and relocation of register in kitchen.

It is unfortunate that we are hearing about a less than favorable experience after a year has passed. We pride ourselves on customer satisfaction and would have liked the opportunity to address any concerns at the time the work was performed. With regard to Eric's follow-up, Eric was at the customer's home on three occasions, the last time being the afternoon prior to the conclusion of the job getting a gas inspection. At no time while speaking with Eric did the customer expresss any concerns or dis-satisfaction. There was no problem with the customer paying for the work performed. Some of the issued brought up in the customer's comments were not included in the quote and were not asked to be included. This includes the patching of the holes around the new registers. The technician asked the homeowner if he would like to use the old register holes, which were very large because we were replacing an old gravity fed boiler. This way the customer would not have to patch the entire hole he would only have to patch any remaining opening. Had we not done that and cut in all new register holes, the customer would of had to patch all the old openings. With regard to the register in the kitchen, the Technician told the customer that we could not cut the quarry floor because we could not be responsible for any damage to the quarry tile if it broke. If this was an issue after the Technician's explaination, the customer should have addressed it with Eric when he was at the job. With regard to a register in the back room, it was discussed when Eric was preparing the initial quote and it was going to be very expensive to do so the customer opted not to have it included in the quote. We assume full responsibility for the Technian not ordering the filter rack when he noticed that there was not one in the unit. This issue has been addressed with the Technician. Once we were made aware of this by the customer, we ordered and installed the filter rack. Again, no mention was made of any other issues or any dis-satisfaction with the work that had been performed. We are sorry that a less than favorable experience was had by this customer. We would of liked the opportunity to address it one-on-one and resolve or remedy any issues.

Good start, good finish, in between was good also.
Description of Work: Eric was totally professional. In one day the oil furnace and oil tank were emptied and gone, the new high effeciency gas furnace was installed along with a new gas line and air intake and exhaust piping. The chief installers Joe and Jay did a fantastic job, asking our input when required and leaving the work area very clean. My only suggestion is that Main Stream Mechanical leave a handout that explains what to do in the event that I smell gas. Should I tell my wife or say I'm going out for a while? Also, no information was left about servicing my gas furnace in the future. But I would still highly recommend Main Stream Mechanical. Thanks Again, Jim Wittenhagen

The work required two visits. Joe and Jay first removed the old gas pipe in the house and ran new pipe to the location of the new gas stove and up through the floor and tested new lines for leaks. For the follow-up visit they coordinated local permit process and scheduled local gas/plumbing inspector to come out and approve of the work. With the arrival of the gas stove, Joe and Ray helped connect the stove to the new line as well as help install various stove accessories (blower, etc).
Description of Work: Main Street Mechanical helped us move through the steps required to get a gas stove installed in our home. This involved removing old, out of code and for many years unused gas pipe in the basement, installing new pipe to location of new stove, coordinating the local permit and gas/plumbing inspection process and finally connecting the new line to the new stove when it arrived.

I also needed a silcock replaced. Eric and his worker came out and replaced the silcock and explained to me about the HVAC system. They could not perform the AC check as it was too cool that day, this was rescheduled and performed at a later date. After contacting another plumber on Angie's list and being abruptly turned away, I contacted Main Stream Mechanical. The woman that took my call on Friday, listened to what I needed and immediately gave me an appointment for Monday and informed me that they would call before they came to my residence. She was very professional and pleasant. The day of my appointment, they did call, but it was to ask if I could accomodate them coming earlier than planned. This was better than I planned and within a few minutes, the Technician was at my door ready to perform the task. The Technician disconnected the stove and was in and out in no time at all. A few days later, I received a Thank You card for giving my business to Main Stream Mechanical. That was a nice touch. This whole process was handled well and was as quick and painless as possible. My thanks to Main Stream Mechanical and Angie's list.

Eric and everyone at Main Stream were so kind and so helpful. Eric came and saw our home in October and worked with National Grid until they finally came and installed the pipeline in early January. As soon as National Grid did their piece, Main Stream had ordered our materials and had us scheduled. Brenda even called us back while on vacation when we had a question. On the day of the install, everything was going well until National Grid had a situation and called the workman - who was at our house - to Georgetown before he could hang the meter, which left me without heat and hot water and Eric and his crew with no way to see if the new equipment was operational. Eric and I were both on the phone with National grid for several hours, trying to get someone back to hang the meter. Finally, National Grid showed up around 6 p.m. Eric and his guys stayed 'til past 8 p.m. and came back the next morning to finish the job. They refused to leave until they knew I would have heat and hot water on one of the coldest nights of the year. They also called me back the next week to see how I was doing. They were nothing but helpful and accommodating.

Company had installed HVAC system which was well done. Phase two of job was plumbing which I did not get other quotes for because I was so happy with their HVAC work. The job took a lot longer than expected, plumbers would show up at 9AM most days and they would only be assigned a couple of days here and there. They used Flow Guard CPVC which I did not realize s not industry standard but lowest priced option. It contains VOCs rendering the tap water undrinkable due to odor and taste. 4 carcinogens in cement used on fittings. If I had known I never would have let them use it. Vent and main stack not installed to code. While they did a good job on the hot air heating system and AC, I would not refer them as plumbers.

We appreciate and encourage our customer's comments but feel that important factors adding to the difficulties encountered should be reflected in the comments. As the member indicated, she was happy with the installation of the heating and cooling systems. During this portion of the job WE handled all aspects of scheduling, coordinating and installing. Everything went smoothly. The problem arose when the remodeling began. As with remodels of this magnitude, other contractors such carpenters, plasterers, electricians, cabinet suppliers, etc. are involved. When there is no General Contractor on site and the homeowner takes on the burden of scheduling/coordinating and one contractor misses a deadline or install date or if an item is scheduled to be installed (such as cabinets, etc.) and it does not arrive on time it creates a snowball effect and impacts the work scheduled for the next contractor. We did our best to accommodate all requests while at the same time trying to be accountable to other customers who were on the schedule. Unfortunately, because of other customer commitments, we were not able to fulfill every scheduling request in the time frame desired by the member. With regard to the Flow Guard CPVC, use of this material is industry standard and meets ALL codes and safety requirements. Plumbing Inspectors nationwide would not sign off on inspections if a contractor was using a product that was unacceptable or a heath hazard.

They were highly rated on Angie's List and able to get the job done rather quickly. The problem happened on Friday and they took care of it Monday which was important to me. I thought it was pricey but no problem with the service, the whole transaction was made very easy. I never saw the plumber themselves, I only dealt with a woman over the phone and she was terrific. They didn't really pick up after themselves well in the work area, that was the only thing I was disappointed in.
