All went fine. The repairs were completed within the estimated time. A/C compressors are expensive. (They charged about twice what you can find one for on-line - parts only, not counting labor. No surprise that the OEM compressor is more expensive.) No charge for the parking brake adjustment. We've been taking our car to Village Subaru for several years now since our local mechanic retired. Going to the dealer is more expensive than going local but Village is good. The staff is polite and professional. Repairs are done on time and done right. We'll continue to do business with them and will definitely visit them when it comes time to replace our car.
Description of Work: Village Subaru replaced the A/C compressor and adjusted the parking brake. (The brake was sticky.)

Dealer was not able to diagnose the problem or fix it. Had mixed results with this service department in past 2 years. Prices are on the high side, quality of work is fine if it's routine work but mixed bag when the need to diagnose something more complicated.

They did not properly tighten the the oil filter and the oil all leaked out, nearly burning up my engine. On the hottest day of the summer, driving in Cambridge late on a Saturday afternoon, a week after the service job, the oil light comes on. I call the shop, the woman who answers the phone suggests I put some oil in the engine and see if that takes care of things. A trick? Well-meaning advice? I would rather not muddy the situation, and ask for an appointment for first thing Monday. AAA tow truck eventually comes, tows our 2011 Outback the 19 miles out to Acton at a cost of $64. Only the first 3 miles are covered by AAA. So Monday morning, I call around 10am morning to check on my car. Guy who answers the phone says they've "just started on it". Well maybe they were busy. Called around noon: same story. Called again around 3pm: same story: "just started on it". Escalate to service manager: I need the car to get to work, am I going to get it back? What happened? Turns out they figured out it was their fault the oil leaked out and got burn-caked onto the engine, and spent the day trying to clean up their mess. Cleaned off the engine, put oil in, who knows why this took all day. I would have been understanding if they fessed up the first time. Mistakes happen. So I asked service manager: can you at least pay for the tow truck it took to get the car back to you, since it was your fault. Never mind I sat for 3 hours waiting for it in the heat. Yes, we'll pay for it. How? Um, leave a copy of the bill. Then what will you do? Um. We'll send a check. In the mail. Waited a month or so, no check. Called back: can I talk with the service manager? Answer: sure, what can I do for you? What about the check for the tow truck to bring my car in after you let the oil drain out? Sorry, I'm not the service manager after all. That's OK, can I talk to him now? Sure. Now I get the service manager, very friendly: sure, yes sir, I'll get a check cut right now, I remember all about it now, can't believe I forgot, won't even put it on my to-do list, why, I'll just do it now. And yes, the check comes, in the mail. It was not the mistake that made me unhappy, it was the disingenuous buck passing and waiting that lost me. If you make a mistake, man up, make it right, and move on. Otherwise the customer will move on.
Description of Work: Basic oil change, but botched and nearly burnt the engine out. After a couple of months and enough pestering they paid for the tow truck needed to haul my car back for them to repair their mistakes.

After a bad experience at Ira Subaru and visiting one other dealership as well, we went to Village Subaru at the advise of our neighbors who have bought several cars there. I was immediately impressed. It's a smaller dealership with a modest, clean (albeit somewhat cramped) layout, which tells me that they're not blowing a lot of money on overhead. We met by chance with Anthony Romano. He took us on test drives in 3 different models. There was zero pressure, and in fact his laid-back, nonchalant approach was a bit disarming, and helped sell the car. We left and 10 minutes later called to put down a deposit for an order on a 2012 Impreza. We knew there was going to be a several-month wait for our car to arrive, but Anthony was always quick to return phone calls and update us on the progress of our vehicle. When the car arrived and we went in to pick it up, the final price negotiation went very smoothly. Anthony didn't play games - just a quick check with his sales manager on the price, and that was it. The finance person was really nice too. Very painless process. We've had the car in for minor service things a couple times, and overall the process has gone pretty well. One of the service guys was a little prickly, but another younger guy was totally helpful, helped me set up the Bluetooth in my car, etc.

We've used Village Subaru for years for our 2 cars and love their responsiveness and the excellent quality of their work. I also really like getting a free loaner car when I have more than an oil change scheduled. This week we bought another new 2010 Outback and traded in my 2000 Outback from Village Subaru. The sales staff were friendly and not over-bearing. They were very helpful and reasonable. I'm delighted with my new car!

Have always had great work done at Village Subaru. Keith and the team there always go the extra mile to diagnose and repair my car quickly and economically. 9 months ago, I made the mistake of servicing my car at a mechanic that was closer to home. The car never ran right after that, developed oil and coolant leaks. That mechanic brought the car in 3 times, and told me to "keep the issue under my hat" since Subaru might end up owing me a re-call. When the car began running like a total wreck, I brought the car back to Village Subaru, and they had the car diagnosed and FIXED! Not only that, they worked with Subaru to do this job under warranty. Also fixed shot brakes and bearings (400.00). (How did the other shop miss this)? Which of course now work perfectly. GREAT SHOP! Also, they kept me in a gorgeous "loaner" throughout the week while they did the work. Very generous of them!
Description of Work: Repair and replace brakes and bearings. Diagnose on going concerns about head gasket and coolant leaks that began after a botched repair at another shop.
