Do Not Work Floor De Lis or Mark Hughes. This is not a professional flooring company, stay away. We hired them to refinish the wood floors in my house, a service that they stated they could provide and were qualified to perform. They and their installer came to the house multiple times when working on their bid and were fully aware of the existing conditions of the floor. Their first attempt to fix our floors failed due to the polyurethane pealing and was worse off then before they started their work. They also got polyurethane and stain all over the base boards and had to be convinced that it was their responsibility to protect the surfaces adjacent to the floor that they were working on and that they had to fix the damage that they had done due to their unprofessional workmanship. The work took 3 days longer than they said it would due to their professionalism, lack of effort and a worker walking over the still drying floors with dirty shoes. He dragged which debris over the entire floor requiring them to rescreen and install the poly all over again to which they offered not discount or apology for the additional time that we were not able to occupy the first floor of our house. They then came out a second time to redo the work and I didn’t this it would be possible but the work was even worse this time. This is not to mention that they were impossible to reach, Mark the Owner does not even have a working voicemail when you call his cell phone. They were late showing up, didn’t show up one day and needed 2 extra days to finish the work from what had been discus, confirmed and reconfirmed. This time the polyurethane which was to have a matte finish was pooling, with irregular finish that is matte in some locations and high gloss in others and again peeling up. We requested our money back and they stated in no uncertain terms that we would never see our money again and that they took no responsibility for the finish condition of the floor. After going back and forth with this snake I finally came to an agreement with Mark for him to pay us 750 dollars and we would go our separate ways, this was an amount that is less that ¼ of what we gave them to fix our floors. After an agreement was reached Mark texted me and requested to change the terms asking me to remove our Yelp review without further competition. To which I responded that we had an agreement that this was not a part of and that would require him in increase his payment to us. He responded that 750 was his number and he would require me to also send him an email stating that we would not post negative reviews elsewhere. These terms were not acceptable. Mark Hughes and Floor De Lis are unprofessional, unqualified, not respectful the agreed upon schedule, didn’t stand by their work and reneged on our verbal agreement, instead of honoring it, trying to modify the terms to be more favorable for himself without offering any value to us. A quick search revealed a lawsuit against Floor De Lis LLC for installing in a defective manner, The Orleans Parish Civil District Court Case number 16-07478. They were accused of “breach of warranty through failing to complete the work in a sufficient manner, failing to properly train and supervise the employees and failing to ensure that the work was completed in a proper manner.” This sounds very familiar, don’t let it happen to you too. Do Not Work with Floor De Lis or Mark Hughes.

At this point I was livid: (1) I did not believe that I should be forced to work with Floor de Lis again (especially since there had been no contact with them from the get go) - I didn't trust them, nor did I trust they were capable of doing the job right a second time again, since they claimed that their very best installers had been sent the first time; (2) I did not appreciate them manipulating the fact that this was a horrible installation job by convincing the manufacturer to say that this carpet was defective. This carpet was beautiful before it had been installed. It was obvious that the only reason Floor de Lis pressed hard for the manufacturer to deem the carpet defective was that Floor de Lis would not have to eat any of "my" costs; (3) Floor de Lis insisted that if I would agree to the second installation, I would need to pick out a different carpet, as they claimed that the design of the original carpet caused many installation problems - contrary to their position that the original carpet was defective and certainly advice they should have given me before this design was chosen in the first place; (4) Floor De Lis has not assumed responsibility for my damaged walls and the disingenuous of this entire job just goes on and on. I have attempted to amicably request my deposit back. I will one day have to get this carpet redone. It will undoubtedly cost $14,200 plus whatever I will have to pay someone to repaint my walls. I am reminded of the stress and aggravation of this entire situation every time I go into our bedroom, our closet, and onto the 3rd floor. At the very least, I believe that it is only fair that Floor de Lis reimburse me our $7,100.00, keeping in mind that this will not even come close to covering a new paint job in the halls of the three floors. I attempted to contact a business rating service, but not surprisingly, Floor de Lis is not a member. Angie's List is my last attempt before I will have a lawsuit filed in this matter. In a post-Katrina world, as I'm sure so many people can relate, I cannot afford to flush 7100.00 down the drain. Floor de Lis needs to do the right thing and take responsibility for this situation by reimbursing me money they are wrongfully and in bad faith holding.
Description of Work: Post Hurricane Katrina, we were forced to do some serious renovations to our home - namely due to windstorm and water damage. After completing the work on our 1st and 2nd floors, a friend put me in touch with Daniel Duke sometime in late 2006 / early 2007 to complete the work on replacing the damaged carpet in our bedroom and our closet on the 3rd floor. In March 2007, I put down a $7,100.00 deposit with Floor de Lis as the job totaled $14,200.00. Shortly thereafter, Daniel skipped town and abandoned the job. Among other issues, I was stuck dealing with the carpet installation and began communicating directly with Mark Hughes, whos family owns Floor de Lis. When carpet was shipped to Floor de Lis' warehouse, I was unable to have them install the carpet right away, as I was trying to get the 3rd floor renovations completed. Around the end of 2007, beginning of 2008, I was ready for the carpet installation. All I can say is the work done by Floor de Lis was completely unacceptable, and the damage they did to other parts of our home in getting the carpet is indescribable. Since the storm, the walls were newly painted in the stair halls from the 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd floors. Upon trying to get the carpet from the 1st to 3rd floor, the installers scratched up the walls, as the rolls of carpet swung from side to side - even compromising the stability of a hanging light fixture. When they finally got the carpet to the 3rd floor and "completed" the installation, the carpet runner installed on the steps had been positioned unevenly. Throughout the newly carpeted areas, the carpet flushing up against the baseboards was cut up and patches of the carpet were used to fill the spaces. Creating huge indentations in the carpet itself, the nails/tacks visible. I immediately called Mark Hughes and asked that he come to inspect the job, and see what a mess had been created. After a rep from Floor de Lis came out, a few weeks later, Mark contacted me to say that the manufacturer was willing to deem the carpet defective; therefore, Floor de Lis was "willing" to install new carpet and do the job once again (of course, as long as I paid the entire $14,200.00).
