I called Surgi’s on numerous occasions and they were really rude, ugly and unprofessional and they mentioned that they could not give me my money back. Sometimes they would not return my calls either. I only had the spring service done until I found out that Surgi’s was not the company that replaced my Heating and Air Conditioning unit so I canceled the fall service.
Description of Work: I had to write something about this company since they lied to me and kept my money. I thought I needed my air conditioner checked so Surgi’s Heating and Air Conditioning had a coupon for spring and fall services so I decided to call them and I even asked if they were the company that replaced my Heating and Air Conditioning unit and they replied yes. Even when the technician came out I asked the same question and he replied yes too. I could not find my paperwork from when my Heating and Air Conditioning unit was replaced so I just took Surgi’s word since I used them in the past. Well when I finally found my paperwork, it was not Surgi that replaced my Heating and Air Conditioning unit. It was a company that my brother used which also started with an “s”. I would never hire a company that lies and takes your money.

Response from Southern Air of New Orleans
We're sorry for the confusion that this customer has experienced. Surgi's did the original air conditioning in 80% of the housing in the Kenner, LA area. When she asked if we were the ones that installed her air conditioning, our dispatcher most probably told her that it was likely that we did. Not knowing that she was referring to a system replacement. As far as we know, her cleaning was conducted in a timely, thorough and professional manner. She has not indicated otherwise by her comments. This program is offerred as a prepaid subscriber service. As such she received a 30% discount with other benefits such as a 15% discount on repairs, same day service guaranteed and a 5% discount on equipment purchases. Surgi's has hundreds of customers in the Greater New Orleans area who subscribe to this service. We will review our records and make proper compensation to this customer for services not received and offer her a courtesy discount on services for 2012. Craig Johnson Surgi's Heating and Air

I called Surgi's for a second opinion and tried to pay Art $50 when he promptly showed up at the house to appraise a crisis situation. His advice kept me from making a potentially serious mistake regarding the installation of a vent atop an unusual space between two joined houses that was trapping a lot of heast and causing problems. This whole experience just made me fall in love with Angie's list. In the short time since I discovered it I have started to meet responsive contractors who are accountable. They really value being at the top of Angie's list and you get treated accordingly. Thanks Art. That was really nice of you.

I had scheduled an 8 a.m. appointment. Whalen was about 30 minutes late, but he didn't have my correct phone number and apologized/explained the minute I opened the door. I gave him a quick run-down of my problem, and he explained what all of the charges would be before he even got his tools out of the truck. He spent about 2 hours "sniffing" for the leak, very thorough. While he was outside he patiently answered all of my questions, explained how his equipment worked, how freon works, etc etc etc. I'm sure he explains the same stuff over and over but he never gave me the impression I was bothering him. He honored the Angie's List coupon, which saved me about $50. I would definitely recommend them and use them again.
Description of Work: I have had a freon leak for 2 years that 2 other a/c companies couldn't find. Whalen very patiently "sniffed" my entire system and found a small leak at a slightly loose connection. He tightened it up, filled up my freon, and answered all of my many many questions. I'm hoping that the tightened connection does the trick, but if it doesn't, it will be Surgi's that I call when I decided to get it fixed.

I was just surprised that no one ever called me. Pretty much by Tuesday afternoon if you have not returned my call you have lost me as a potential customer because what you are saying to me is that it is okay for me and my family to be in a position where my A/C unit does not work, we can sweat during the day and night, and your office will not even call me to schedule an appointment to check out the unit. If that's okay with you as a business, its okay with me too, because I am going to use someone else. There may be a need for A/C repairmen out there, but I determined a long time that if you tolerate complacency from people and professionals that you deserve to get the bad service that follows. If they can't even return a call or get back to you at the start of a potential customer relationship, then who knows what would follow after that? Maybe they had a change in ownership or management; sometimes this happens. I wish them good luck in this economy.
Description of Work: We just had some hail storm come through New Orleans so I emailed Surgi's on a Sunday night through Angie's List and indicated that I had some hail damage to my A/C unit, so I needed a price on how much it would cost to repair it as well as what would their prices be to perform yearly maintenance on the unit. I am a pretty busy guy and once I emailed them I figured they would get back to me. I really did not intend to use anyone else because I had looked at their Angie's List rating and was really just calling them to get an estimate and if it was reasonable I was going to go ahead with the repair and then get them to perform some annual maintenance on the unit. Days go by, and before you know it, I realize throughout my busy week that hey, no one contacted me. Finally, it was Thursday around noon that Debra left me a message from Surgi's and she apologized that someone had printed out the email and it had been passed around the office between the salesmen and the repair guys, with everyone trying to figure out whether this was a request for a new unit quote or a request for a repair. Apparently, this email printout was passed back and forth between everyone trying to figure it out and I guess no one could figure out how to pick up a phone and call me up to clear up the confusion (although if I tell you I had hail damage to my unit and I need a price on the repair as well as potential annual maintenance, it would seem to me to be pretty clear - you either have a totaled unit or a unit you can repair so you likely need the repair guy out first, then maybe the salesman if the unit is beyond repair) . Imagine if the unit had not been working, I guess I would have been sweating in the 90- degree heat waiting on a call back. At any rate, when I got the voice mail I just shook my head and asked myself whether I wanted to use a company that thinks a potential customer's unit in need of replacement or repair could pretty much wait almost a week before getting a call back. I have heard a lot of good things about this company and maybe their technicians are really good, but maybe they have too much work and don't have time to take on new customers. When one of my clients used to call my office, I called them back before the end of business that day. If it was a potential customer, I would call them back before the end of business that day as well. Maybe they do good work, and maybe I would have been satisfied, but the first part of getting any job from me is returning my phone call or my email in a timely manner. Then after we schedule an appointment, you have to show up, and if you can't show up, then you can't do the job. In this case, no one had an opportunity to show up because no one got the message. So they might really be very good at what they do, but if they are so busy (or confused) to call people back, I guess it will just play out in the future. I guess instead of calling one business and trying to see if that works out, I should have called several A/C companies and then I would have been covered.

Point well taken. This customer slipped through the cracks of our office procedures and was not called in a timely manner. We are embarrassed at the way his call for service was handled and have made changes to our office procedures to insure that this type of response never happens again.

I would highly recommend Surgi's. They exceeded expectations in sales, installation, and service.
Description of Work: Our AC went out, so I started to do my research on what type of unit I would need. I decided to get proposals from three companies on a Trane. When I first called Surgi's, I spoke with Craig Johnson on the phone and he began to educate me on the different types of units. He was very patient and answered all of my questions and then some! He sent Art to my home to see what I presently had and to assess my needs. After a through inspection, Art provided me with an detailed explanation of his proposal. Never once did I feel pressured or did I feel that my questions were trivial. They worked with me on price and honored the coupon on Angie's List. The other two companies, although reputable, were not on the same playing field in terms of education, service, or price. Installation was just as good. Two gentlemen came to install the AC, and air handler. They were polite, neat, and very focused on the job. A few days later, I had a problem with the thermostat. I called and someone was at my house within 2 hours. They fixed the problem in about 30 minutes.

So far, so good. Next phase of repair due after additional parts ordered. Stay tuned...
Description of Work: Called this morning, after waiting two day for a different repairman to respond to my message from two days ago to get our heating system fixed. (sometimes customer loyalty does not pay). Was promised a call as soon as repairman finished with first job. Repairman Joe came out and worked on our system. I am very pleased that we now have a heating system that is working again! Cannot comment on pricing, as I did not get a competitive bid.

Air handler would turn on but the compressor outside did not. Called around 9 AM. Service man came over from New Orleans that day. He called ahead of time to let me know so I could meet him at home. He inspected the compressor and found that a fuse had blown in the junction box. While there he also checked the pressure levels of the system and remained to make sure everything was good. Service man was very nice and humored my barrage of general knowledge questions (First time with A/C problem) and offered additional advice along the same guidelines on keeping the unit cleaned etc. Also suggested that next time I can just that the fuses to a hardware store and have them check/replace them. Listed price for basic service call was ~$100. The additional was a surprise and illegible on the invoice. I figured it was for the cost of materials replaced. 15% coupon was honored.

They did a great job, and when a small problem had to be adjusted came out immediately to correct it. They are really a great company to do business with.
Description of Work: I just recenty changed ac/heat companies after using the same company for over 20 years due to poor service and not doing quality work. I called Surgis and got immediate, friendly and professional service. We are a small hotel and when a problem arises we need a very quiick response which we received from Surgis. They came out on the date promised and installed the ac equipment in one day, it was a difficult job and i was pleasantly surprised that it could be done so quickly. We are very happy to have a company that we can depend on to do quality work.

My air conditioner wouldn't work. The service call was scheduled quickly, and the technician arrived toward the beginning of the time range promised. He not only checked enough to diagnose the problem, but then he checked the overall system. The call was professionally handled from beginning to end. At the end he offered a regular service contract (prompted by something I'd said, not from out of nowhere) and gave me information, not a hard sell--but I will probably do it, because of the quality of their work.

Called Surgi's Sat. a.m. because AC was not working when we returned from vacation. Repairman says it sounds like system needs freon and he can be out to add some before the end of the day. So we make the appointment and wait in our sweltering home. Several hours later repairman hasn't arrived or called, so we call to check and he says there is one person still ahead of us. Sometime after five he calls back and said he can not make it today after all but could be out first thing the next morning. We grumble, but agree because by now it is too late to call anyone else and have them get there any sooner. Next day, Sunday, we hadn't heard from him by 10 a.m. so we called him and he came out around noon. Spends 45 minutes to an hour looking over and testing unit. The problem turned out not to be freon needed, as he thought, but a new expansion valve. He said he would get one the next day and call to let us know when he could be by to install. Very nice guy and very knowledgeable. Charge for that day's servivce $139, which is their minimum weekend "visit fee". Next day, Monday, we did not hear from him so finally called him around 3. He called back later because he had not gotten a model number he needed from our AC coil. My husband ended up crawling under the house twice to get various model numbers for him. He says he will call us back, but we didn't hear from him that day. We called on Tuesday and were told they didn't have the needed part but had ordered it and they would be by to install sometime after 2 the following day. Rearrange schedule to be home by 2 that day (Wednesday), but they called shortly before they were supposed to arrive to say they hadn't gotten the part after all and wouldn't be by until the following day. Thursday a.m., different repairman comes out and spends about an hour putting in the new valve. Charge $560. That seems high so I ask for breakdown of part cost and labor and repairman says he can't give it. It is a flat charge. Husband calls company office and owner tells him the part cost $210 and labor and incidental charges are $350. Says we should have been told that before having the work done and apologizes that we weren't. But also says his fee is less than what other companies charge. All in all, this repair was a frustrating experience. Surgi's cancelled on us twice at the last minute and we had to call them repeatedly to find out what was going on. Took six miserable days to get the thing fixed with temperatures over 90 each day. On the plus side, the work seems to have been done very competently and the people are knowledgeable and pleasant, once they finally came out or called. The labor charges in total were nearly $500 for about two hours of actual work, which seems awfully steep. If you are going to use Surgi's, I would make sure to get an estimate in writing beforehand (we were stupid not to have done so) and call other companies to compare prices. One other thing: while their website says their labor charge is $69 to come to your house, in actuality their visit fee is $86 on weekdays and $139 on weekiends. Parts or freon extra.

Replacing the ductwork went great, really. Surgi's was conscientious to schedule the work so that we would be without A/C for a minimum of time (one night) and had the system partially running for us on the second night. By the third night, the whole system was blowing and we were very happy. The only weak part of the process was communication beginning from this point of the project, to the finish of the job. The crew had requested that I be present at the final point to balance the vents, so I waited for them on the morning of the 4th day for this (as instructed). They didn't appear, so I called the office and was told that they were on another job and my last day of work had been rescheduled to several days later. On the next appointed morning, I waited for the crew, but again they didn't appear. Another call to the office let me know they had been delayed by some unexpected problems at another job. So the communication wasn't perfect, but this is a minor point, as the system was working very well, and they made a special point to come finish my job after my second delay. I gotta say that they did a great job. I had to go under the house just this morning to check a plumbing configuration for a minor remodel and I was really impressed with the new ductwork from Surgi's. The ducts are very solid and they guys planned and organized my new system very well. I'm also really happy with the whole-house air filtration unit they installed along with the new ducts. I researched it online beforehand and Surgi's gave me a very good deal. Overall, the quality of work has made Surgi's the only company I would ever call in the future.

They were prompt & courteous. I've used Surgi's repeatedly, and they've always gone above and beyond. They warranty their work and stand behind everything - no questions asked.
Description of Work: The team at Surgi's installed a complete new high energy efficient system in a new home for us. This system was installed about 4 months ago. It is whisper quiet. The workers were very neat and courteous. The owner Craig Johnson, checked on our house to verify that everything was installed to his high standards. They return calls promptly, did an exceptional job, and there were no surprises. I appreciated how they cleaned up their work area and left the house cleaner than when they arrived. The house is very comfortable. They recommended the right equipment for the house. Thanks for a great job.

With the temporary fix to turn off the heater strips, the house is cool and comfortable and the kW hours per day has reverted to the prior lower usage. We are looking forward to the heater strip relays being replaced when the ordered parts arrive, and the other tune ups they will do to keep the units we have working well and efficiently. They did a great job. It is wonderful to work with people who actually know what they are doing! Inside units were Rheem/Rudd year 2000 units.
Description of Work: AC did not work well, on all the time 24/7 with no significant cooling, electric bills more than doubled form the $300 to $700+ level. We had 3 AC people from 3 companies come in to diagnose and treat the problem before Surgi's - they said (guy #1) need a new thermostat - did not solve the problem (guy #2) need to spend $400+ cleaning coils - but coils looked clean, and if that did not work then replace the whole unit. (guy #3) need a new duct system in the house that is more efficient - but it worked fine a few months ago with the same duct system. Key issues were one of the two 60 amp boxes in the furnace room was drawing 10-12 amps and hot. AC guy #3 said to call an electrician to check it out. We did and spent $255 on the change out to modern circuit breakers and confirmed the electrical wiring was fine. Electrician said the AC guys should figure out why the AC unit had a huge amp draw. Surgi's came in as a final opinion since we were not satisfied with the others and their website looked promising as far as knowing what they were doing. They immediately understood the problem, said the huge amp draw was likely due to the heater strips being activated when they should not be, thus negating the cooling and creating a 24/7 draw of both cooling and heating. The tech found a malfunctioning relay in the HAVC inside unit going to the heater strips keeping it on. The tech disabled this until the replacement parts arrived. We also signed up for their preventive maintenance program where the entire units were checked out, and a number of small items have to be fixed like floats for the drain, inadequate insulation of pipes, etc., but (contrary to prior service people) NO major replacements of expensive units or ducting needed.

It went very well. I did have to pay more than I expected. However, this was quite reasonable. After the owner and master tech found some things to correct, they sent another technician to do the work. We were all expecting that a regular service fee would be charged. However, my unit required an astounding 9lbs of freon. Given that, I was actually charged less than I would expect for that large quantity of freon. I am still working with this company, and they are extremely helpful, and are genuinely trying to solve my problem in an economical, fair, and reasonable way. After multiple disappointing experiences with local A/C companies, this is exactly what I was hoping for--knowledgeable pros who are willing to search for the actual problem, and not just offer a band-aid, or try to sell you a new system.
Description of Work: Evaluation of my A/C, which is not dehumidifying properly. I submitted a repair request on line. The owner took the time to email me back. He then asked me some additional questions via email. He then took it upon himself to personally come to my home and evaluate my system. He brought with him his best, and most experienced technician. They did not charge for the initial visit, and proposed a very reasonable, step-wise approach to the problem of the "let's try this, and if it doesn't work, we'll try something else...and so on..." variety.
