Brad and his wife came out as scheduled to begin the job. We were really excited because we have always loved stained floors, but the nightmare began. The pre-work was done to begin the staining process, but something went wrong. The stain would not take on the first attempt. They put more stain and still it did not take. Prior to the third attempt, Brad said there may not have been enough lime in the concrete mix so he added lime to the floor and we waited for the color to change. We spoke to the concrete company and they said they prepared the floor with the mixture for concrete stain as we had requested. After the lime treatment, some areas of the room still had little color and other areas had no color at all. We panicked because we knew this was not a good situation. By this time it was 3 days into the process and they were about to make the third attempt of acid stain. The third attempt was made , but the colored areas got darker and the areas with no color still had no color. Brad was puzzled by this time and I asked he and his wife, "if this was your room, what would you do?". His wife said I would go with the water-based stain as an option. Water-based would give you a painted look with one solid color as opposed to the stained look with multiple colors. This was not what we had hired them to do. We wanted stained floors with the multiple colors. By this time, we were exhausted and frustrated and decided to stop the job. Brad agreed and told us he would tally up the products he had used and the transportation to and from our home and decide on a price. He said he knew we would not owe the $271.66 balance and we would probably get a portion of the deposit returned to us. Today is July 23 and we have not heard anything from Tiger Stain. We were very disappointed in Tiger Stain and we have learned a valuable lesson about deposits. We hired someone to install tile in our sunroom and it is beautiful!
Description of Work: We hired Tiger Stain to stain the concrete floor in our newly built sunroom. We contacted owner Brad Lee for an estimate. His price was the mid-range from all of the estimates we had received. He told us he required a 70% deposit upfront. My husband and I told him we wanted him to do the job, but we did not feel comfortable with 70% upfront. He said ok and agreed to a 60% deposit and we hired Tiger Stain to make our floors as beautiful as our new sunroom. We paid him a $407.49 deposit and signed a very detailed contract.

While we agree that the results of (Member name removed) job did not turn out as our company or she would have liked, Tiger Stain bears no responsibility for (Member name removed) dissatisfaction. As we do with all our customers, we fully explained the process to (Member name removed) before beginning the work. Concrete staining is a time sensitive, chemical process that is affected by many, often unpredictable variables. Acid stain reacts with the free lime in the concrete to produce the stain color. When there is little to no free lime in the concrete mix, the stain does not take in all areas. There is no possible way to know or predict this until we apply the acid stain. Like all our customers, (Member name removed) signed a contract which describes our process in detail and explains all of our terms and conditions. (Member name removed) was made fully aware of our standard 70/30 payment terms, and our company made every reasonable effort to work with her to her satisfaction, even to the point where we lowered the payment terms to 60/40 to earn her business. In addition, before beginning the work, we informed (Member name removed) that our company requires new concrete to cure for a minimum of 30 days before staining. Because she was hastily planning a family event and wanted the job to be completed in a very short time frame, (Member name removed) misrepresented the age of the concrete -- she told us it had been more than 30 days, but changed her story when things started to go wrong and told us that truthfully, it had only been 27 days. As a result, the concrete did not properly cure to a point where it could accept acid stain. We put forth our absolute best efforts to make things right for (Member name removed) -- we applied several coats of acid stain and tried several other methods. We also offered her several options to complete the job, including using water based stain, which would guarantee a consistent color. Unfortunately, she declined all options, and asked us not to come back. Before leaving, we thoroughly cleaned and prepped the surface again so she could have tile installed instead and save her some of the time and labor costs for the tile installers. We informed (Member name removed)multiple times, in writing, that as with any standard job, the 60% she paid upfront was used to order materials. All of those materials were used and then some. We kept documentation of all expenses, and gave (Member name removed) an itemized report showing exactly what we spent her money on -- materials, and gas to travel back and forth to the job site. Our company did not make any money whatsoever on this job -- we actually lost money due to labor costs and travel. Although we could have, we did not ask (Member name removed) to pay out the remainder of the balance she owed, even though she defaulted on the contract that she signed. At her request, we tried to arrange a meeting with (Member name removed) and her husband to discuss this, but attempts to come to an agreement were unsuccessful. We are deeply sorry that despite our many attempts, we were unable to satisfy (Member name removed).
