I called the owner of overhead door who put me on hold. He was going to call the tech and find out what was going on. By then, the tech was already gone (less than 5 minutes). I hung up logged on to Angies list and wrote this comment. I will not let this company back in my house and I am going to stop payment on the credit card. RESPONSE: He never offered to honor his quote, that is all that I wanted. I thought $500 was a high enough price, I wasn't going to give them another $100.
Description of Work: Garage door opener stopped working, called overhead door for an advertised service call price of $89 ($10 dollars off the normal price for scheduling on internet). Service man came right out, played with the door finally taking the motor off the unit because he was unable to find the problem. Called into his office, quoted a price of $350 to install a new one. I accepted the offer. Then he gave me a bill for the current days work for $150 ($60 more than expected). After I complained, he said he would take $50 off the new install. Today they showed up to install the unit. First he complained because he had to walk 20 yards since he could not drive on my newly poured concrete driveway. Then he told me they would not honor the original quote, he wanted an additional $100.

Response from Overhead Door Company of Northern Kentucky
The situation with Member was a misunderstanding that we go to great lengths to resolve. Unfortunately, we were not able to resolve the misunderstand with Member to his satisfaction. We offered several options to resolve the problem but found that he was not willing to allow us to resolve the problem in anyway. Overhead Door Company of Northern Kentucky prides itself on providing excellent customer service and only the highest quality products. We install over 900 residential garage door openers and repair over 3,800 residential garage doors per year. We are proud of our service record and work hard to ensure our customers are happy with the products and services we provide. To clarify the situation with Member, I have outlined a summary of the events that took place. On Saturday 7/14/12 at approximately 11:00 am we received a call from the customer requesting a service call to repair a broken cable on his garage door. We explained that we did not have a technician available and asked if he could wait until Monday to schedule his service call. The customer demanded that we dispatch a service technician because he wanted his garage door repaired the same day. We agreed and re-routed a service technician to the customer’s location. The service technician arrived at the customer’s home at approximately 11:30 and found that the cable of the garage door was wrapped around the drum. The door was not operational. The service technician made the necessary repairs to the door so that the door could work manually. Once we were able to repair the garage door, the technician found that the automatic garage door opener did not work. The garage door opener was a model that had been discontinued and replacement parts were no longer available. The technician explained the situation and recommended that the opener be replaced. The technician explained that we would need to schedule another time to replace the opener. At that point the customer suggested that the technician wait at his home while he go out to a store and purchase a new garage door opener so that the technician could install the off-brand opener “on the side”. The technician explained that he could not install a garage door opener for the customer “on the side” and that we would need to schedule another time for us to come out and install the opener. The customer agreed and the technician explained the work he completed and the charge. The technician was on the job for approximately 1 hour and explained that we would only charge for the first ½ hour $96 and then $48 for the second ½ hour but that we would deduct $48 off the installation of the new garage door opener. The technician quoted the customer $365 for the new garage door opener so the net price for the new opener would be $317. However, the technician did explain that there could be an additional charge if it was determined that the new garage door opener needed to be cut down since there was a possibility that the beam in the back of the garage was in the way of the new opener. The customer agreed and signed off on the receipt that the door was working and that we needed to come back to install a new garage door opener. The customer insisted that the opener be installed as soon as possible so the installation was scheduled for Monday. On Monday morning we received a message that the customer did not want the opener installed that day and requested for it to be installed on Friday. Later that morning the customer called and complained that the garage door was not fixed and he should not have been charged $144. The customer explained that the technician never worked on the door. We explained that the service request came in as a broken cable and that the receipt he signed acknowledged that we repaired the door. The customer insisted that there was never any problem with the door and that the only problem was with the garage door opener. After further discussion, the customer agreed that the cable on the garage door was repaired and that the door was working manually. The customer mentioned that he was told that he would receive $10 off the service call but never received the credit. We agreed that $10 should have been deducted and that instead of deducting $48 off the garage door opener installation, we would deduct $58. The customer agreed and we confirmed the new garage door opener to be installed on Friday AM. On Friday AM our service technician arrived as scheduled. The driveway was roped off and the customer commented that he could not drive on the driveway. The technician understood and told the customer that it wasn't a problem. When the technician arrived in the garage, he found several pieces of outdoor furniture in the garage that needed to be moved prior to installing the garage door opener. The technician helped the customer move the furniture on to the new driveway. With the furniture out of the way, the technician immediately double checked the amount of backroom available for the new garage door opener. After double checking his measurements, it was determined that the opener would need to be cut down and that it would be $100 for that additional work required. The customer was notified. He refused to pay anything extra and told the technician that he was never told about the additional charge. The technician tried to explain the additional work but was told by the customer not to install the opener and to leave. After the technician left, the customer called into the office to explain what happened. The manager he spoke with was not aware of the problem and asked if he could put the customer on hold so that he could discuss the situation with the technician. The manager quickly discussed the situation with the technician and returned to the phone but found that the customer was no longer on the line. Later that same morning the manager spoke with the customer and explained that the new garage door opener needed to be cut down because of the limited amount of backroom. The manager offered several options and even offered to waive the additional $100 fee if he allowed us to install the new opener. The customer refused and it was determined that it was best if he found another garage door company to service him in the future.

Our garage door started making a loud popping sound when it was opened or closed. Figured it was getting ready to break. Checked Angie's list and saw Overhead Door with A listing. Called and set up appointment. They were on time, After checking the door, they resecured the hinges, since the bolts were loose and performed general service on the door. Price was great and no more problems with garage door. The person working on our door was extremely professional and nice. Will use again.

I had contacted this company in late 2011 to assist in the repair of my automatic garage door that was not working. Serviceman replaced part but cautioned me that this may be a temporary fix due to the age (20 years ) of my door. I appreciated his honesty. I went ahead and replaced the part. My door stopped working again in late March 2012. Serviceman came back and replaced the motor and installed a keypad (which I previsouly did not have). Overall great experience - person answerring the phone at the office is pleasant and professional, servicman called to say he was on his way to my house, he performed the service quickly and correcly. Highly recommend this company. Good service and good prices.

I was trying to get an estimate for a commercial garage door opener. A sales representative named Ray scheduled an appointment with me at our warehouse, which is not physically where our office is located, for 2PM on 3/14/12. I explained the day prior when making an appointment that timing was important, as I must leave my office in order to meet. I rescheduled my entire day and arrived at 1:45PM, worried that Ray might be early. Unfortunately, at 2:10PM, no Ray. I called the office, and to my surprise, there he was. He made no apology, but explained that he had been at another appointment. He said that he could probably meet me in an hour or so, but not sure. He never called prior, he never apologized, and he failed to call back the next morning, rightly assuming (I bet) that he lost our business, which he did. I'm not going to stand around at a warehouse waiting for 2 hours for an estimate that was scheduled.Time is valuable, and needs to be respected. In the world of cell phones, this is unacceptable, unprofessional behavior. Don't change your plans for Overhead Doors of NKY...it will cost you!

We apologize for this problem and any inconvenience it may have caused. It is completely unusual for us to miss a scheduled appointment. It is our expectation of all our sales representatives and service technicians to be available at the scheduled time. If for some reason we are running late, it is our expectation to call the customer, apologize and notify the customer about the delay. We failed to follow these guidelines in this particular case. Unfortunately, we were not able to reschedule this appointment and did not follow up with the cusetomer properly. We completely understand the client's frustration and are sorry that we caused this problem. We hope we are given an opportunity in the future to prove our reputation as a company that provides both high quality products and services.

Was able to get phone quotes over the phone from most door companies. Overhead door was lowest, salesman came out, picked out door and gave deposit. They called me a few days later with an installation date. Called me the day before to remind me. Called me when they were on their way over, arrived promptly and installed door, provided me with maintenance info, cleaned up perfectly and now I have great new garage doors.

I set everything up and they were suppose to come on a Saturday morning and I set this up about a week in advance. They told me the guy would be her at 9am and the guy never did show up and I called them because I had another appointment. When they called to reschedule I did not want to use them because they have inconvenienced me enough and I lost my confidence in them because I felt like they were very unprofessional and I felt like they wasted my time. They had come out here previously and they fixed something for me in 2003. I do think of this b and I don't think they are a total failure as a company.
Description of Work: They did not perform anything for me. I called them and I liked what they were offering. They had an over ride opener for the garage door opener. They were scheduled to do the work but they did not show up for the work.

ON 9/10/03 WE REPAIRED THE CUSTOMER'S GARAGE DOOR. WE DO NOT HAVE ANY RECORD OF WORKING WITH THIS CUSTOMER SINCE THIS REPAIR. WE WERE NOT ABLE TO FIND ANY INFORMATION REGARDING SCHEDULING AN INSTALLATION FOR A NEW GARAGE DOOR OPENER OR ANY RECORD OF ATTEMPTING TO RESCHEDULE THE INSTALLATION. IN ADDITION, WE ARE CONFUSED BY THE REFERENCE OF AN OVER RIDE OPENER. WE DON'T UNDERSTAND THE TYPE OF OPENER THE CUSTOMER HAS REFERENCED. IT IS NOT OUR PRACTICE TO SCHEDULE INSTALLATIONS ON SATURDAYS AT 9:00. ANY INSTALLATION WOULD HAVE BEEN SCHEDULED EARLIER IN THE MORNING TO ALLOW ENOUGH TIME FOR THE JOB TO BE COMPLETED SINCE WE ONLY WORK 1/2 DAYS ON SATURDAYS. IF FOR SOME REASON WE DID MISS THIS APPOINTMENT, WE APOLOGIZE FOR THE MISTAKE AND OUR INABILITY TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM TO THE CUSTOMER'S SATISFACTION.

The serviceman, Jack Roberts, was courteous and did a very conscientious job. He reinforced the door, adjusted the tracking and oiled it, and adjusted the weather stripping. The door is probably closing better now than it has in a long time. Then came the fight with the warranty company, who said that the work didn t qualify for warranty coverage. Our paperwork indicated otherwise, so a telephone dispute ensued while Jack finished the door. Jack waited kindly, ended up talking to the warranty people himself, who finally succumbed and authorized payment. We appreciate the extra effort that Jack put into the job and his patience in dealing with the warranty issue.
Description of Work: The $70 is our co pay for warranty work. We purchased a house not long ago and it has a pitiful garage door. Besides being cheap and ugly, it wasn t sealing properly when it closed allowing cold air in at the top. The warranty company sent out Overhead Door.
