Here's my problem with that situation:
1- The tech never told me there was anything more serious than low freon. In fact, he never really told me anything other than that the unit was low on freon. He just left after getting the check without telling me anything else or showing me the supposed damage to the unit.
2- The tech did not do the work necessary to know if there actually was a leak, nor did he actually inspect the unit enough to know if the piping in the condenser was corroded or not (that part of the unit is behind a shield and is not visible from above... the tech did not take off the panel to inspect it).
3- The tech did not recharge the freon on the unit, and just left. So I was left with a unit that wasn't keeping the house cold due ti low freon and no-follow up.
4- In a following dispute with the warranty company a second contractor was dispatched to inspect the unit. At that time it was revealed that not only was did the condenser coil appear fine (not significantly corroded), but that the caps to check the freon level were loose and possibly causing a leak (the second tech didn't know that someone else had been out there a week prior... The Farha tech left the caps loose and may have even worsened the strain on my already weak AC unit). The second company recharged the freon and stated that the only way to know if there is an active leak it to wait and see if the freon level drops again (invalidating the claim by Farha that it was a "slow leak" of course). The unit has been working fine since.
So in summary, Farha took their time getting to me, didn't do the work they claimed they did, lied to the home warranty company, didn't recharge the freon (that was covered by the warranty and necessary to know if there is an active leak) and tried to get $1200 for a job that probably doesn't need to be done.
