"My name is Jeff Pattison. I started Deck Works 21 years ago. I don't have crews that could care less about the quality of work they do. I'm not just on sight, I build each deck with the help of two laborors. There are two sides to every story and this is mine. I started the [Member Name Removed] deck on July 7 2017. I had six days to complete the job before I went on vacation, but that would have been plenty of time before I left on 16th. I did not inform the [Member Name Removed]'s I was going on vacation because of this reason. After I took off the existing deck, there was a great deal of rot on the house. I informed the [Member Name Removed] I could do the work for $465 and if they wanted other bids, I was fine with that. They told me to go ahead. Since I didn't have any materials I would have to come back Monday. Monday I finished the siding repair and the [Member Name Removed]'s wanted it to be painted by their father-in-law on Tuesday. On Wednesday, losing two days I informed them I was going on vacation but assured them I could at least have the top deck done. We got the deck framed up, dug the footings, set the posts and started putting up the deck boards. On Thursday I put up the stair stringers and poured the landing and put the posts in for the railing and the steps on the stairs. On friday we had the decking put on the frame and asked Mr. [Member Name Removed] to inspect them, of the 30 boards he rejected 15 of them. I don't want to use any material that the customer doesn't want and we started replacing the 15 boards. After his approval on the new boards we started screwing down the decking and cutting them to lenght On Saturday, all I had to do is install the railing and the upper deck was completed. The stair railing was all that needed to be completed when I got back When I showed up and went up to start on the railing I noticed 9 more boards with X's on them. I spent Saturday replacing those 9 boards, but we only found 7 that was satisfactory. I ordered 6 more boards to fill in the two missing and would have to continue when I got back. When I got back on Monday July 21st, I was ready to finish. However when I went up on the deck I saw 12 more boards with X's on them. At this point I realized this material wasn't going to to suit the [Member Name Removed]'s. I took out the bottom deck and framed it up and asked the if they would like to go with a composite. There wouldn't be any knots or cracks, it would be perfect. They rejected that offer. The top deck was framed, had a full set of stairs, the posts were installed, each rail section had been cut and the connectors were in place. I feel that 75% of the job was done. I left the site with over $5100 in materials there. I paid my laborores $714. The total contract was $9225 of which I got a check for $4600. Lets say I was only 50% done. I should be entitled to $2312.50 plus the $465 for siding repair. I did not asked for anything or threaten legal action. I simply sent an email stating that they apparently would never be happy with my work and it would be better off for both of us if I didn't return.. I have documented my story with recipts and pictures and at any time am ready to back up my name and the company I have devoted my life to Thank You Jeff Pattison Deck Works"
It took a few weeks to get on his schedule, which was fine - I didn't really want to hire someone who was just sitting around waiting for their next job. But once he got here, he stayed on the job for 5 days straight, no interruptions or unexplained absences, until he finished. He did a very nice job and my wife and I were pleased with his effort, especially how nice, neat, and new everything looked. And he really picked up after himself, unlike most contractors we've hired in the past who always seemed to leave a mess or some piece of work unfinished.
Jeff is a quiet, soft-spoken guy who is easy to work with and lets his work speak for itself. We look forward to working with him again.
