Trying to buy a house in wynestone was quite an adventure. The price was raised $5000 while I was talking to them. The payment quote went up with putting $6000 down( should probally go the other way. Told them that this was the #1 lot everybody would see before they bought in that area, but they didn't see it that way.Now they haven't sold any and are talking of moving out.

The sales associate was great! She was very patient and professional with us. Wonderful attitude through our the whole entire building process and was great on following up on things. I would give her an A. The rest of the building process did not go as smoothly as we would of liked and there is just too many things to list so I've listed some things. This is not our first time building and it seemed that we had more issues with this building project than any other homes we had built in the past. We know there are issues in every building process but we experienced a little more than we would have liked. For future buyers I would offer the following advice: if you have the time or perhaps know of someone, I would watch your home throughout every phase of the building process, because if you don't chances are things will get missed and left in that condition. For example, the wrong vinyl flooring had been installed and if we didn't catch it early enough it might had been difficult to get it changed or delayed the completion of our home. Second, the contractors don't take pride in their work or trying to do things right the first time. There was a light installed in one of the closets and when you opened the door it would hit the light & you could not open the door all the way. Now whoever installed the light should of plainly saw that mistake. However, it was left in that condition and when we went to check on our house that day we caught it. Also, the contractors don't seem to have much respect for the customers home. We caught one contractor smoking in our home and many of the other contractors eating/drinking in our home. There were rib bones left on the floor one day and we could see where drink had been spilled on the floor. There is a sign that was posted in the window that clearly stated " No eating or drinking inside the home, subject to fines". However, when we brought it to the construction supervisor's attention he stated that he couldn't enforce it. Ok. Also, instead of laying the flooring when everything was done being painted and the railing being sanded etc. it was done after the fact. There are some places on the carpet where paint dripped etc. Why the painters didn't cover the floors is beyond me. Another thing to mention is the Design Center. They have some new individuals there and they don't seem to know how to answer questions such as what do my vanity bases look like etc. One of the ladies which we were given a warning about was extremely rude to us on the phone and is not very patient. With those characteristics and qualities don't go very well when you are dealing with people who are persnickety or want to take more time in choosing their selections. You are paying money to have a house built not for an attitude. They also either need to have a larger showroom or more books that show you what you for example what your fireplace looks like, your bathrm vanity bases etc. Also, come prepared to the design center because they do miss certain things and if you don't catch it within a certain time frame then you are charged a fee. For example, we paid extra for interior railing. The consultant didn't show us what color the railing was. When I asked her she said you can either have it stained or in white. If we didn't make it clear what color we wanted it would of been painted white, that would not of looked very good with our stained kitchen cabinets. Also, M/I needs to offer a better selection of lighting as well as give you more choices in picking vinyl flooring for your foyer, kitchen, utility rm & bath rooms. You only get 1 choice and if you want various colors in your rooms you are charged extra for it. Also, some of the bath rooms don't even have hand towel bars installed. Every home we have purchased and they were all built had hand towel bars in all the bath rooms. Oh, and your kitchen cabinets don't come with handles, which make it a little harder to open your doors. When asked about this we were told "most people don't have knobs". I am not most people and I am not building a home for most people. I should be treated like an individual not grouped into some category or mass production sort. Be aware when you look at their home plans/brochures including the features and elevations. For example, we upgraded to another elevation. On the brochure it showed an exterior porch railing and that was the only elevation with exterior railing on the porch. It made no menton that that was an option. When the house started coming along we noticed no railing. When we inquired about it we were told that it was an option. So BEWARE just because it shows it on a picture doesn't mean you will be getting it. ASK is this an option or a standard feature. Second, again shutters were shown on all their elevations. We noticed shutters only on the front, left side of the house. We were told again this was an option. I never heard of shuttering only half of your house. Even the neighbors and the installer of the shutters were asking where are the rest of your shutters. We escalated this issue up to the VP of Sales/Marketing who stated well there is a disclaimer about prices etc. are subject to change. We said that applies after the fact. When we were choosing our elevation and options we were never told shutters on this portion of the house or the exterior porch railing was an option and cost extra. Its one thing if we were already told and wanted to modify and add these options after the fact, but when we were entering a contractual agreement these things were never disclosed. So now we will have to pay out-of-pocket to have shutters placed on the other half of the house so it looks uniform. We had many neighbors in our community approach us and told us we were very wise to oversee the building process because they had issues as well. Now sites such as Angies List and the BBB are only as good as those who list their complaints etc. for others to see. I know some individuals don't want to list their complaints etc. for whatever reasons they may have. However, there's a downside to that because other people think that the services they provide are fine. My advice is to ask the neighbors around the community that you are building in. They will truthfully tell you the pros/cons of the builder etc. Pay attention to the garage and your driveway. The garages are built to short in length and they will not fit medium to larger sized vehicles. Driveways are too curvy and make it difficult to back out of. It starts out a 3 car and then tapers to a 2 car. Which makes it difficult if you have 3 cars parked. These specifics should of been discussed. We had a 3-car garage at our previous home and we were able to park all there cars inside, one of which is a Yukon XL a large SUV. At this house we can't park our Yukon inside because it is not deep enough. I am certainly not getting rid of it either! We are still having workers come out and fix things that got missed apparently when our house was supposed to had been inspected. For example, we had to have some work completed around the threshold-piece of wood needed to be replaced that was black in color by the Service door. We found out that the service door had not been caulked but somehow that got missed as well. In the window sills there are cracks in the paint. Some scratches on our kitchen countertops and a dent and scratch on the mster bath tub faucet. Not to mention when we we first ran our garbage disposal someone had placed metal pieces/shavings in it. I guess complaining about eating/drinking in your home has consequences. We are also having to deal with ants probably because of the food/drink spillage that occurred. In addition, we are currently having issues with our electrical. Certain switches in the kitchen keep tripping off. We are in the process of waiting for the electricians to come and and fix the problem, but this is something that should not be occurring in a brand new home. We did receive a call from Gina of M/I who asked for feedback on our new home and I discussed the issues and what could be done to better improve their homes. Hopefully there will be some modifications. Until then as of now if I had to do it over again I would of went with either another builder or spent a little more and went custom.

I have been happy with the overall quality of the home and have had no major problems with it. My service experience has been more positive than negative. However, I was unhappy with the finished quality of the landscaping. I attempted to have M/I rectify the slope of my backyard and finally just hired a landscaper at my own expense to regrade my backyard.
