Our tension spring broke, and I called several co's to get a quote. Precision was a little more expensive ($210), but they could get out the same day, so I set up an appointment. They were on time. The technician took off the springs, and showed me that there was "damage" where the roller bearings were digging into the shaft. He also showed how the rollers were loose. As a non-expert, I really didn't know whether the damage was significant, but the tech said it was and could lead to more problems. He quoted prices to fix each problem (160 & 200 I believe), and also a "package" price for a complete overhaul. The complete overhaul was 600. The internet warns about this type of scam, but the reason it works so well is because the customer doesn't know if the repairman is being honest and not fixing the problem could lead to future damage. Also, when the door is already taken apart, the customer doesn't feel comfortable trying to get a second opinion or finding out what the repair really should cost. After telling him to just replace the spring (the original call), he offered to lower the price and again warned that damage could be done and that it probably wouldn't last a year without repair. I changed my mind and had him do the overhaul for 550 (340 more than just the springs). He quickly made all repairs. From the time he knocked on the door to the time he drove off it was less than an hour. After he left, I checked the internet and the parts to replace the rollers and bracket were $10 and $15. That means I paid $315 for the labor which was less than a half hour. I believe the price is a complete scam preying on customer's ignorance and fear of doing more damage. The work completed appears to have been done well. The door runs very smoothly and quietly. Its unfortunate that I believe I was scammed on labor cost, because I like the way the door opens. For me, trust is essential in dealing with a contractor, and I don't trust Precision. I would not use them again because of the lack of trust.
Description of Work: Replaced tension springs, rollers, and bearing brackets.

They didn't put in one piece and put it in the wrong spot. There was a three and a half inch gap. They never straightened it out. I stopped payment on the check and I called them back and asked that they would fix it for me. The installers didn't know what they were doing. I wanted to try and discuss it with them, but they wouldn't. They refused to discuss it. They thought nobody knew anything but them. They said they were going to seal it, it is a three and a half inch gap. I didn't want it sealed, I wanted it installed properly. He has been harassing me on the phone for several months now.
Description of Work: I have a three car garage and a single car garage. The fellow was trying to sell me doors for all four. I told him that I was interested in two at this time and probably two later on. The salesman asked the installer if the doors would fit. He told him they would not fit on one but it would work on the old style. I understand after talking to other people that there are two styles. One would fit and one wouldn't.

It went well. They provided next day service. After almost completing the job the workers decided a different set if springs would be better (more reliable) so they changed them to finish the job. I asked questions about how I could prevent wear and tear and make some adjustments myself. All of my questions were answered.

They try to sell you a brand new garage door any time they come out regardless of whether you actually need it or not. I called a second company for another opinion and they told me I didn't need it replaced, so I used that other company to do the work. Precision did charge me with a service fee for coming out but when I told them that I had another company do the work they credited back the money to my card.

We believe Precision Door Service of Indianapolis REALLY took advantage of our lack of knowledge. Just under 90 days ago, we had to make our first call to fix our garage..are door cable appeared to break and we were concerned about the door hanging over our cars. We called them and my husband told him to hold off on doing anything until he returned and he stepped out. When I went back into the garage a few minutes later the technician had already replaced much of the hardware. They replaced all the hardware and upsold us on a lifetime warranty. Within 90 days later, our garage door mysteriously buckled. They told us that their hardware could not have caused the problem and that we could get a new door for another 700. After this process was over, we did some research and then felt sick to our stomache...we found out that when buying a garage door from anyone the price that is quoted INCLUDES the hardware and they do NOT SELL garage doors without putting in there own hardware!! I called around on prices for a complete package door and the highest price was 900 dollars and now they had charged me 600 for the hardware then asking for 700 dollars more for a new door - to replace, in my opinion, something that could have been caused by their installation, hardware, etc. The timing was just too close to the hardware replacement. So, I called and talked to Nick and Joel to see what we could work out and they went to 500 and said that they would have to replace the hardware!!! So, in essence I would have been paying 1100.00 for a door plus hardware from them that I could have gotten somewhere else for 300.00 dollars less and BUYING hardware TWICE. I was trapped – I couldn’t go to any other place without throwing out the 600 dollars I had already spent. I asked that they give me a door for around the same price as their competitors...which would have meant that I would give them 300 more on top of the 600 that I already spent. They went down from a 700 dollar door to 500, but that was still way over other prices and since I was trapped…I did not have other options…not good ones anyway. Also, we had someone else come out and give us a look at our door and they said it was possible that the hardware was too fast for the old garage door. That was something else that Precision door service NEVER mentioned as a possibility. I noticed, sadly after the fact, that they have TERRIBLE grades on Angie's List from other consumers also...so, this is a known company with BAD/QUESTIONABLE ethics...and I only hope that I can help out the next person. I would recommend to any and all to take a look at LOWES, MENARDS OR PROFESSIONAL GARAGE door when you have problems with your garage door.

I had used them before and they have an 18 pt check list. They have a $65 service charge. They stated that the service charge would not apply if you purchase parts. I wanted to purchase two hand held remotes for approximately $42 each. They were supposed to open both garage doors. They made a mistake and did not give me the correct remotes. Only one opens both doors. I called them and they stated that they had upgraded the remote. I should have gotten three remotes that opened both doors. They had left and that is when I noticed that only opened both doors. Out of the three only one opened both doors and the other two only opened one door. They were very misleading regarding the service charge as well. They tried to charge me this and stated that they had a recording of the conversation and I requested to listen to it. They stated I could not come by and listen to it, but they could email it to me. Nick stated he had listened to it and that he knows what it said, but won't let me here it.

We worked with Bret first on the sales, but with Troy for the installation of the garage door. I was extremely displeased that after the installation because there was no trim or weather stripping that typically goes around the edges of the door. Upon bringing this complaint to the attention of Joel the owner of the company he said trim was not included on the installation and would cost me another $150. I was never made aware of this important fact.

Work was done promptly, by courteous technicians, problem arose when reviewing the bill. I believed I would be getting a new lift master on promo. I had been told that as Angie's List I would have the service call free, I had a coupon for the torsion bar replacement. However I was not allowed the remission of the service call because, "can't use two coupons" and I didn't offer the Angie's List coupon at time of service. My problem is that I wasn't told to get the coupon I was informed that the service call was not to be charged due to my purchase. When I asked about that I was told that it was not their responsibility to ask for the coupon from Angie's List therefore that charge remained on the bill. My sense is that the company was performing the job and kept finding issues to add charges vs assisting me in accessing all available discounts in a helpful way.

Our garage door would not go up on Monday, Dec. 22, when the temperature was bitterly cold and the wind chill was below zero. My husband called about 7 a.m. to ask for service. The dispatcher told him that a technician could be there between 8 and 10 a.m. that morning. My husband said that we could not get our cars out to go to work and the dispatcher told him that they would be there as close to 8 a.m. as possible. The technician called about 8:30 a.m. to say that he was on his way and that he would be at our home in about 20 minutes. He arrived when he said he would. He looked at the door, provided us with an estimate and then started work on the door. He found additional issues, came back inside and gave me a new estimate. I authorized the work and it was done in about 45 minutes. Ryan Foster, the technician, was polite, professional and performed the work in as short a time possible. All parts replaced by the technician are under warranty for as long as we live in the house.

The driver was good and courteous. The price was quoted was low on the bottom line of the material needed. When he got here the price went up because I didn't want the cheap material, I did want better quality. I felt like it was a bait and hook catch for them to come to my house. I as not happy with that. I felt like I was taken advantage of overall on the price.

We had a torsion spring break on my mother's garage door on a Saturday evening. I was at my mother's house when it happened and she ask that, on Monday, I would call Overhead Garage Doors of Indianapolis to do the repair. On Monday morning, I called Overhead Garage Doors and set an appointment for 3:00 o'clock that afternoon. A pleasant receptionist informed me of the price and, with a little conversation, she offered a discount price for two springs to be replaced for $179.00 plus tax. Unfortunately, my 86 year old mother, who is declining in health both physically and mentally, made a phone call to Precision Door Co. ironically thinking she was calling Overhead Door Co. Of Indianapolis. My mother and I have an agreement that I take care of all home repairs. When I arrived at mom's house a little before 3:00, I was more than a little surprised to see a Precision Door truck in the driveway and seeing the garage door opened and springs replaced. When I ask mom what was going on, I found she had made the call and did not inquiry about price or any other details! About that time Overhead Garage Door Of Indianapolis arrived on time, and I apologized and informed them of what had just transpired. I told mom to pay the man and directed my attention to a second contractor who was out to do another job. About an hour later I went inside and saw the invoice for $700.00 from Precision Door Co. When I called PDC to inquire how in the world could they be charging three times the amount of a competitor, the lady on the other end had all the answers. No way! Let me tell anyone reading this report there is NO WAY you need to spend three times what Overhead Doors of Indianapolis would charge. PERIOD!

First of all I went in their showroom to look at their doors and talked to one of the representatives. Later that day I took my husband there and we set up an appointment. This was on a Saturday, and they were able to come out on Monday or Tuesday afternoon. They came out and looked at the problem, but unfortunately they couldn't replace the door unless we could move out the cars that were in it, and we couldn't do that. The price that was quoted was very good, and the doors were good quality. We plan on working with them in the future when we can get the vehicles out.

Our 20 year old Sears garage door opener stopped working and in need of repair. After their arrival they evaluated the problem and claimed that the doors were too heavy and that they had worn out the torsion springs. They could repair it, but it would not be a permanent solution and then tried to sell me two springs instead of one (while one had served me perfectly well for 20 years). I initially asked for one to take my chances and they said that they could not guarantee the work for the future. Repairing the door opener would cost $120 and was not a good idea either. So one thing led to another and it ended up above $800. They quoted $499 for two torsion springs and $289 for a door opener. Then the bearings and other things crept in. The $50 coupon is just an eye wash. After they left, we discovered that the door opener had been wired to the garage light switch. Upon turning off the lights the opener stopped working. I called and they said that I needed to use an extension cord as they do not do any electrical work. So how come my previous door worked?? And now (three weeks later) the remote has stopped working. I believe $800 quality work should not have me to call them periodically.

Overall, this wasn't a good experience. They didn't want to accept my coupon. They had the garage door working, and then he proceeded to tell me everything that was wrong with it. He kept trying to tell me that I needed things replaced. He took it apart to show me what needed to be replaced, but I decided I wasn't going to do this. He left it unassembled and took some parts with him. When I called him back later to get that part back, I never got to talk to the repair person. No one ever called me back.
