 + 5 moreOverall, I am pleased with Vickrey. They were punctual and timely during the construction with adequate notification and input so I knew what was coming next. Since completion, I have had slow response to getting the fence realigned so the gates will close correctly. Also, I have to question the heating from the furnace to the addition, currently using a space heater. I consider the rail at the steps too broad to really hold on to. Finally, one minuscule section of tile in the kitchen is still not glued down as it should be. A cabinet is on that space for now, so not a problem. COMPLAINT RESOLUTION: I am confident that Mark Vickrey will work with me to resolve all issues. I will again contact Angie's List if I need further assistance.
Description of Work: A bedroom and bathroom were added to my current dwelling. Also included was a new furnace, a new roof and guttering system; also a handrail, concrete steps and walks, fencing and 2 gates at the rear of the house; new kitchen flooring and carpet in the living room, dining room and up the steps to the landing.

 + 5 moreThe contractors were nice, worked while they were here, and cleaned up daily. The drywall rep weren't as clean as the construction men, although plastic was hung to try to save the rest of the house from the dust. The plumbersand electricians were very cooperative and cleaned up after they were finished daily. The project took a total of approx. 5 wks. I had to make many phone calls to the owner of the co to keep things moving. I was told when I signed the contract; it would be startedand not stopped until we were finished. That didn't happen; they would stop and work on other jobs and then come back to us .We were working on a time line, and I was very frustrated when they wouldn't show up to work, and after a phone call, find out they had to finish another job. Mr. Vickrey called me today and apologized. We discussed the problem and he has created a time line sheet so I will know exactly when he will start, correct the problem and do the work.
Description of Work: The co removed a wall to combine 2 rooms into 1, installed a new header, & made a sunken living room floor even w/the other floor. Installed a window on each side of fireplace, replaced drywall, & prepared it for painting, installed a new electrical plug, removed a shower stall, vanity w/sink, medicine cabinet & ceramic tile from walls in a full bath. Re-plumbed & did electric work for installation of the washer, dryer, & utility sink to make a laundry room/half bath. They prepared drywall for painting. Installed all trim. The plumber sealed all plumbing & removed dryer plug from wall in the closet where the washer & dryer had been. Repaired the drywall & readied for painting. Removed the wall between the walk-in closet & half bath in the master bedroom, installed a shower, new vanity, replaced old toilet, & built a new closet in the master bedroom. The contract/down payment was done on 9/29/07. I was given the idea they would start in 2 wks, but they didn't start until the end of Oct.

 + 0 moreThe subcontractor did a fabulous job, once we got Mark to commit to it. The impression was, our job was so minor, and it was lower priority than bigger jobs. We played a lot of phone tag, and having to follow up on Mark, when he said he'd be in touch with us with a date to do the repair. It took about four weeks to get it done from initial contact to do the job. But once done, the area was filled in nicely, and textured very well to match the old home. The subcontractor also did a great job with clean up and instructions on how long to let the plaster cure before painting. We had to pay Mark on the spot(versus mailing us an invoice), due to the "small dollar amount" of our job and his fear of us not paying him.
Description of Work: Plaster repair to bedroom wall of 100+ year old home, approx 18" X" area. Fill area and texture to match existing wall.

 + -1 moreI gave them a 30% deposit in October to do my bathroom and they said they would get back with me in four weeks. After four weeks I gave them a call and they lost my file, which made me upset. I then had to wait until the first of the year for them to come out to perform the work since they hadn't ordered any of the parts for my job. They weren't very good at responding. I asked them back in October requesting an estimate for remolding my kitchen as well and he's just coming out Thursday to explain to me what he'd like to do. However, once they were here to do the work they did a good job.

Description of Work: Replaced shower enclosure with solid surface (corian) and fixed a leak, also replaced some of the subfloor.

 + -1 moreI am very pleased with our new master bathroom and granite countertops. It should be in a magazine. Unfortunately, the job took about 6 months longer than it should have, with many delays along the way. It was very frustrating and we had to go with a gutted master bathroom for quite some time. Gary and Mark worked to resolve all of the issues that arose (delayed tub, wrong faucets, delayed subcontractors, etc). Their team seemed to genuinely care about the quality of work and about our opinions. Their subcontractors were excellent (especially on the tile), and as I said before, the finished product is gorgeous. Gary and Mark went above and beyond several times. I'm sure they performed work that I wasn't billed for. They wanted me to be happy, and it was obvious in the way they treated me. I would probably work with them again, armed with the knowledge to triple whatever time estimate they gave us. The cost estimate was competitive, but not necessarily cheaper than everyone else.
Description of Work: Granite countertops throughout the house. Totally gutted master bath and built custom shower and bathtub. Redid closet in the master bedroom.

 + 6 moreVickrey did an excellent job with all three projects. I had a workable/usable kitchen in time for Christmas and all "mishaps" were handled in the most expedient manner. They definitely aim to please! We love our new kitchen and spend much time outside under the pergola. I can't say enough good words about Gary, Mark and their crew of hard working, fun and skilled workers. We enjoyed the experience and would definitely use them again in the future.
Description of Work: Vickrey remodeled our kitchen which included new cabinets, new granite countertops, new appliances, new island sink and configuration and new pantry doors. They also constructed a pergola for out back patio using white roman columns and cedar planks. In addition, they did a mini remodel of out basement kitchen which included new cabinets, countertops, and carpet.

Everyone that came to our home was courteous and friendly, the quality of their work is excellent, and the few glitches that we did have were addressed promptly and fairly to all. The job took longer than initially estimated, but the cost estimate was very accurate. We plan to use them again on future projects.
Description of Work: Complete tear out of existing bathroom, down to the wall studs and sub floor. Installed tile shower, tile floor, drywall, ceiling, vanity, toilet, and all finishing.

The company that provided our heating unit kept sending us an old unit instead of a new one. This prolonged the project for approx. three months, we ultimately had to choose a different unit. This was no fault of the company in this report. They put in a wood floors and they insulated the walls and put high ends windows in. Their price was similar to other companies.

 + -1 moreALTHOUGH THE QUALITY OF THE WORK WAS VERY GOOD, WE WERE EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED WITH THE COMPANY OVERALL. THERE WAS VERY LITTLE COMMUNICATION WITH US ON A DAY TO DAY BASIS. NO TIMEFRAME WAS EVER GIVEN FOR THE WORK, WHICH I NOW UNDERSTAND BECAUSE OF HOW LONG IT TOOK. THIS JOB SHOULD HAVE TAKEN TWO TO FOUR WEEKS, BUT IN FACT TOOK FOUR MONTHS. THERE WERE MANY DAYS WHEN NOBODY SHOWED UP WITHOUT ANY COMMUNICATION FROM THE COMPANY. THE JOB WAS NOT WELL OVERSEEN. IN ONE CASE, PLUMBING WAS INSTALLED IN THE WRONG PLACE, SO DRYWALL HAD TO BE TORN OUT AND TOTALLY REDONE. THE WOODWORK THAT WAS INSTALLED IN THE SCREENED PORCH WAS PREPAINTED, BUT ONCE INSTALLED LOOKED LIKE IT HAD BEEN LEFT LYING AROUND IN A GARAGE FOR SEVERAL WEEKS, WHICH IT HAD, AND THEN INSTALLED BY PEOPLE WITH DIRTY HANDS. IT HAD TO BE TOTALLY REPAINTED. GARY VICKREY EXPLAINED TO US HOW MUCH THEIR BUSINESS HAS GROWN RECENTLY, AND IT SEEMED TO US THAT THEY WERE NOT PREPARED TO HANDLE ALL THE EXTRA WORK.

CONTRACT SPECIFIED ''NO PAINTING OR STAINING''. I HOWEVER DID NOT KNOW THE DOOR WOULD NOT BE A PRE-FINISHED DOOR NOR DID I UNDERSTAND THAT MY SHEETROCK WOULD NOT BE FINISHED OFF AFTER FRAMING (I THOUGHT TRIM WOULD COVER THIS AREA). CONTRACTOR STAINED THE TRIM BUT DID NOT FINISH THE SHEETROCK. OVERALL, THE CONTRACTOR SHOWED UP WHEN HE SAID HE WOULD AND PERFORMED THE WORK CONTRACTED (THOUGH I FEEL I SHOULD HAVE BEEN TOLD MORE OF WHAT THE CONTRACT ENTAILED). GIVEN THAT THE CONTRACT DID NOT INCLUDE FINISH WORK and THE ESTIMATE FOR THE DRYER VENT REPAIR INCLUDED LIFTING THE CARPET and CUTTING THE BEDROOM FLOOR (WHICH WAS NOT REQUIRED), I FEEL THE PRICE WAS A LITTLE HIGH. I WOULD HIRE THE COMPANY AGAIN BUT ONLY AFTER A COMPLETE AGREEMENT REGARDING THE SCOPE OF WORK AND MATERIALS PROVIDED.

I WAS REALLY IMPRESSED, AT OUR FIRST MEETING, ON HOW MUCH INFORMATION HE HAD OBTAINED FROM THE PHONE CONVERSATION WE HAD INITIALLY. HE HAD PICTURES AND INFORMATION ON DIFFERENT TUB STYLES AND TRIM. WHEN HE LEFT I FELT AT SUCH EASE. WE MET AGAIN A WEEK LATER, HE HAD OUR BID ON THE JOB. THE CONTRACT WAS PUT TOGETHER WELL, EASY TO FOLLOW WHILE WE WENT OVER THE BID. DURING THE CONSTRUCTION, MR VICKREY CHECKED OUT THE CONSTRUCTION EVERYDAY, THAT WORK WAS BEING DONE. THE LABORERS CLEANED UP DAILY and MY ADDITION WAS FINISHED AHEAD OF SCHEDULE. I HAVE BEEN THRILLED WITH VICKREY REMODELING SPECIALIST. MY HOME HAS DOUBLED IN SIZE, MY BEDROOM BATH SUITE SHOULD BE IN A MAGAZINE, AND OUR BIGGEST CONCERN WAS SEEING WHERE THE ADDITION ADDED TO THE OLD PART OF THE HOUSE. IT'S PERFECT.
