I was very happy with Turners. If you can't tell by the above. I feel that GE is out to get you. Turners is out to help at a fair price.
Description of Work: Adult daughters GE refrigerator (less than 5 years) went on the blink overnight. Tried calling GE to ask some simple ?? and after all the prompts, got the answer, "You have to go the FAQ on the Internet as we do not do this by telephone. Called Turner and was informed that if the problem was under warranty, they could fix it but it would not be covered by the warranty. I then called GE and again after all the prompts finally talked to someone. It was like pulling teeth to get info. Finally determined that the refrigerator could be covered under a compressor warranty and I set an appointment for the daughter. The soonest they could be at her house was over 24 hours in the future. I called Turners and asked if they could still come out today and was told yes. I asked if the repair was a warranty repair and I paid their trip charge and diagnostic charge, if I could pay this and have GE repair the refrigerator. I was told yes and they could be their between 1 and 4 today. They showed up for the appointed time frame, determined that it was a printed circuit board (not covered by warranty) and had the refrigerator running in 45 minutes. Was I happy? yes yes yes -- saved 40 in trip charge and don't know how much on the part. Also saved all the food in the freezer part as well the the refrigerator part.

It went fine. The repair guy came to check it out on 8/31/2009, but he did not have a replacement bearing with him at that time, so we had to reschedule to have him back out. He came back on 9/14/09 and replaced the bearing within a few minutes.

Great. The technician took time after his last scheduled service call. He drove from the east side of Indy to the south side. He could have easily said "it will have to be tomorrow".
Description of Work: dishwasher latch (electronic) not working properly. Turner came out and checked all connections and found it to be OK. Did some diagnostics and found a plastic part from a food container was blocking the latch (owner error)

The washer died a day before vacation. Called TURNER APPLIANCE REPAIR the day we returned. Ryan showed up that same day and early. In minutes Ryan had diagnosed and confirmed the malfunction. He was concise and straightforward about my options and the cost. Ryan's experience may have saved ne a lot of money and frustration.

I called Monday to schedule someone Tuesday afternoon. I was told between 1 and 3. The technician called at 1 to say he would be there in 10 minutes, which he was. Ryan diagnosed and repaired the problem in less than half an hour. He explained what he had done, cleaning and reassembling the switch instead of replacing it, and that if we had problems again within 30 days, he would return and replace the switch with a new one, crediting us for the cost of this service call. The washer works just fine now.
Description of Work: The washing machine would fill and stop. If the switch was manually turned it would continue the cycle until it drained and stop again.

The knob and start switch broke on my dryer. I went online and purchased the parts. I attempted to do the work myself, but when the parts that needed removing seemed tight, I feared I'd do more damage than good, so I called Turner Appliance Repair. I already had the electricity off to the dryer and the dryer top off, everything reay to go. The repairman was here and gone in less than 15 minutes, but still charged $39.95 for service and $70.00 for service time. That adds up to more than $280 an hour!

Eric from Turner Appliances arrived on time, and was knowledgeable, professional and courteous. After receiving a very reasonable estimate for needed work, we ultimately decided not to repair the washer. Additionally, Eric also provided a wealth of information about another of our appliances (things to pay attention to that may require repair in the future). We will definitely use Turner again in the future when the need arises. The overall quality of the service call exceeded my expectations.
Description of Work: We needed to determine if our broken 12 year old washing machine should be repaired or replaced. It had already needed several prior repairs.

The technician arrived in the time window (and called to say he was on his way first), he was polite. He opened the frig door, looked at the ice buildup, and told me that he hadn't had alot of experience with this newer model and didn't know what was wrong. He tried to call his boss for advice (apparently Turner has a GE technician they contact with questions) but couldn't reach his boss, and then called another turner technician who also had no suggestions. He then suggested I unplug the frig for 24 hours to let the ice melt (it's cabinet depth and the plug is not easy access) and then see if it starts working. I didn't follow that solution because it obviously was not a long term fix. He also told me that he would check with his boss and get back to me first thing in the am with information for a fix so that I could cancel the GE appt and not pay another service charge. Based on the fact that they said they would get back to me with a diagnosis, I paid the $40 service charge. He was at my house less than 10 minutes. When I did not hear from them by 10am the next morn, I called the office and explained that I was expecting followup. They told me they would call the boss and he would get back to me that am. By the time the Turner technician called back after 2pm to tell me he couldn't reach their GE contact and still didn't know what was wrong, the GE repairman had already left, diagnosed the need to replace 3 parts (the board, the evaporator sensor, and install an ice ball kit), and placed those parts on order (fortunately for me it was all still under warranty). I'm very disappointed that I paid a service call charge for nothing. Not only did I spend my time waiting in the arrival window, I had to have someone else out to do the work. I would have been okay with a charge if they would have diagnosed it properly whether it was warranty work or not or whether they did they work or not because they did come out here, but by their own admission, they did not know what was wrong and could not fix it. I had planned to call the owner and tell him of my experience but after reading several of the most recent Angie's List entries, several people have had negative conversations and honestly, I just didn't need more aggravation. I would not recommend them for newer model appliance work.
Description of Work: We have a 3 year old (dual evaporator--accessed from inside ) GE refrigerator that stopped cooling over a weekend and had ice buildup on the evaporator. We thought the frig was out of warranty so we did not call GE directly, who in the past has been slow to schedule. We had used Turner previously, and even recommended to a friend, and had a good experience with them. I called first thing Monday and their first available time was Tues afternoon. The scheduler did tell me over the phone that they did not do GE warranty work but could repair GE frigs and did it all the time. I just needed to get a working frig so I said that was fine, just wanted it fixed ASAP and I was happy to have them either diagnose it and/or perform the work. In the meantime, on Tues morn, I scheduled GE repair in for Wed afternoon just in case it ended up being expensive warranty work.

They first sent a young person out that was honest and told me he could not repair the washer since it was too old. They sent a second person out who looked at the washer and ordered a part. When the part came in, one of the owners came and discovered it actually did not need the part and found a broken wire which he fixed.

The Turner rep said they'd be here between 3 and 5pm. At 3:15 I got a voicemail saying "something has come up and we'll call and reschedule you for Monday." Despite calling them back in less that 2 minutes of getting the voicemail, they did not return the call. Three more attempts over the course of 30 minutes, did not get anyone on the phone. My experience, if you are looking for someone who's going to stick with their word when they'll arrive -- you won't get it from Turner. I'd love to be able to comment on the quality of their work, but I'll search the list for someone else to fix my problem.
Description of Work: Our refrigerator has been running almost constantly for 2 days. After following all the recommended self tests that we could find on the internet, we decided to call in a professional to get out refrigerator back into normal operations. After searching the list for services that had Saturday hours, I choose Turner. I called and scheduled an appointment for today. This was right at the moment they opened at 8am.

An appointment was scheduled to replace the freezer door gasket on our refrigerator. The appt was scheduled on that basis and detailed information was given so the gasket part could be ordered (make, model, serial #). When repair person came, it was stated for first time about company policy to review the needed work before ordering any parts. I can understand the reason for this policy but was not told in advance and was disappointed work could not be done at first appointment after taking off from work. When part came in, the second appt for the repair was scheduled. Received a call early the morning of this appt asking me to move appt to the earlier 2-4 pm timeframe. Since I could not leave work before 2:30 pm, we agreed to a 3 pm appt (not a time range). At 3:45 pm, I called Turner to ask why the repair person was not there. They explained that a family emergency had caused the repair person to leave work early. Out of frustration as Turner had not called me to say the repair person could not keep the appt, I initially refused to reschedule and cancelled the entire order. At this point, one of the company owners (John) got on the line. He stated that I was being insenstive by not understanding about the emergency which had come up. His tone was demeaning, aggressive, and belligerent. I was finally able to say that I was not happy because no one had called me even though the 3 pm appt time had come and gone 45 minutes earlier. John argued with me that a specific time had been set for 3 pm as company policy is to schedule for a time range, i.e. 2-4 pm. Because I was adamant that a 3 pm appt had been scheduled, John finally said he would listen to the tape, and "if I was telling the truth" (his actual words!) he would call back to see what other arrangements could be made. I did not receive a return call from him. The next morning, the Turner appt setter called and asked if I was available from 4-6 pm and another appt was set. I am not pleased with the overall quality of the work. The repair person left finger prints all over the front of the freezer door. This happened at the first visit also. They work with stainless steel appliances all the time. Surely, they must carry the proper materials to clean up after themselves. The repair person also asked if I would handle the garbage (old gasket and cardboard box) as his "truck was full of garbage." Out of amazement, I said yes but this is an extremely poor business practice.

Turner came on a call to repair my water heater. They quickly diagnosed the issue as being a bad heating element. The issue would have been resolved within an hour (only taking that long due to the need to drain the tank), but a bad circuit breaker slowed us down. At the end of the day, it was too late to get a new breaker, so they had to come back the next day with one. They didn't charge a second service call, however, and got me running soon after showing up on day 2.
