Please note: There is a $90.00 fee for Insurance and home inspection estimates. The fee will be rebated off the cost of the job if Handyman Connection does the work.

We had scheduling issues with them, issues of not getting back to us for changes in schedule that were a little frustrating. The work that was done was done well and the price was reasonable. It was sort of a combination of good and bad. The guy who did the work was quite easy to deal with and responsive, but there were a lot of schedule changes and I'm sure that from his side for unavoidable reasons, and from the company's side for unavoidable reasons, but it made it pretty complex from our side. We're actually going to look elsewhere to see if we can do better but I don't know if we can.
Description of Work: We've used them twice. They did an assortment of small projects in the house.

I called for an appointment to have a door installed in our home. I have used them in the past and most went well. One hour after the appointment time, I called the office to find out where the contractor was. I was put on hold for about 5 minutes and then was told that they had left a voicemail the previous day and needed to reschedule. I never received a voicemail and the girl at the office made me feel as if it was my fault that the contractor could not come at the scheduled time. She told me that she would reschedule the appointment but it would not be for about 2 more weeks. We have used them several times in the past and had few problems. This time however I felt as if I was asking too much have them do the work. I am very unhappy with the customer service I received and will not use the Handyman Connection again!

John was very professional, courteous and helpful. Went out of his way to please me! Did an excellent job and was very prompt and hard working. We had a couple of delays due to his being called off the job to deal with problems on other work sites, but these were not his fault and were not time consuming. We would hire Handyman again with no question that the job would be done right and in a timely fashion!! Excellent company!! We give them a 10 out of 10!

Handyman was super professional. I like that the person who quotes your job is who does the work. In particular their flooring specialist John was great. He was professional and we felt very comfortable with him working in our home for several days. We have an upcoming tile job that we will also be using Handyman to complete.

The manager reluctantly sent out a technician. They discovered that the initial work they did in March was still fine, but there was a new issue, which they resolved for us. The technician was supposed to come around around 3-3:30. They called and asked to come early, but I preferred to have them come when my brother was in. They called again around the time my brother was supposed to get back but I didnt pick up. I contacted them to let them know he was back and could come. The manager explained they felt it was good customer service to come early and became upset with me, and wanted to speak to my brother. The manager spoke to my brother and said I harassed them over the phone.
Description of Work: He did some plumbing work for me in March. The issue came up again recently so we contacted them to honor their 1-year guarantee.

We are sorry to say that this report is completely false. This customer called to say that a faucet we installed months earlier was leaking. It had not leaked for months and months so there really was no warranty issue but we agreed to send the plumber out again to see what the problem was and fix it if needed. It turns out that the problem they had was completely unrelated to work we had done but we went ahead and fixed it for free. Our appointment was for 3:00 and our craftsman did indeed call ahead because he was running ahead of schedule. [member name removed], who is not our customer answered the phone and said that her brother [member name removed] was not there and that he would be home after 12:00 and she would prefer if he was home when we came. We said that was no problem and we would call back a little after 12:00 to see if he was home yet and if if we could come. When we did call again at 12:10 to see if [member name removed] was home she did not answer the phone. We were simply trying to provide great service by coming earlier than expected and attempt to correct her problem. Shortly after that second call, she called our office saying that we had called her house over and over again bugging her and would not stop. We attempted to tell her that we had only called twice total. She stated to us that her phone was ringing over and over and she just knew it was us. We asked her if he had caller ID and she said no but once again whoever was calling her she just knew it was us. As the manager I told her that we had only called her twice and she called me a liar, She was very combative and unpleasant. All of this over us trying to come out earlier that expected to fix their problem. How many contractors ever do that? Usually they are very late or do not show up at all. Because of all of this I told my contractor to just sit around and wait and go at his prescheduled time of 3:00. When he got there and found the problem he phoned me and told me it was completely unrelated to our work. He then asked me what I wanted him to do. I instructed him to fix it for free even though it was not related to our work. Once again how many contractors would do something like that? After going above and beyond we still get a bad review from a person who is not even our customer. I wish [member name removed] the best of luck moving forward with his future home improvements.

Greg was very polite, prompt, and did a great job. I needed to put a rush on the job because I was leaving town. He came out to give me my estimate, and he also made sure he completed the job before I left. He explained how their company works very well so I'd know exactly what to expect. When I called to make the arrangement, the CS rep did not inform me I could not honor my deal for both doors. When the contractor came out he informed me that I could not have both doors installed for that price. Had to get refund from Angie's list.

We are sorry to hear that [Member name removed] is unhappy with her purchase from Angie's List. The offer clearly states that it is for storm doors only. She purchased two of these coupons and tried to get us to install a exterior door for that price even though it is much more work. To have a not so good review over a offer that is clear is kind of unfair. When I told her how much exterior doors cost she stated that it was the same price Lowe's would charge so she was going to have them install it since it was their door. That in itself tells you our price is competitive with them as it should be. Customers should not expect to get extra work done by coupon when the offer is clear. We recommend that our Angie's List customers call us if they are interested in purchasing a offer to make sure they are clear on what it can be used for.

Charles from Handyman Connection did the installation. He arrived right on time and had all the necessary tools to complete the job. He had the new attic door installed in less than two hours. While he was installing the door he noticed that electric wiring that crossed the attic had been closed before in the attic door so the insulation was worn. He used electrical tape to make sure it didn't fray and then moved the wires so that would not continue to happen. I appreciated this extra attention.

I purchased a Big Deal for $209 for an Attic Ladder Installation. When they got here, they said that it was only good for replacement of an existing ladder, and not for a new ladder. I read through the fine print, and no where on there does it say replacement, only install.

It certainly can be used for replacing a existing ladder or for instillation of a new one as long as it is standard installation with no extra cutting, framing or bracing is needed. Like all big deal or storefront sales with all companies, if extra work is needed there is a small additional charge.

I had Handy Man Connection out to give me an estimate to repair ceiling drywall damage from a leak I had in my kitchen ceiling. They sent Hank out to do the estimate. I decided to go with Handy Man Connection for the repairs because the man they sent out (Hank) said he could do the work, but I didn't know that he was not experienced in replacing drywall, painting or matching ceiling texture, until after the work was complete. The work was done on 04/07/14. Replacing drywall in such an area requires skill and experience, and needless to say the work done to my ceiling is absolutely HORRIBLE. The mud on the ceiling is very thick and chalky and not smooth at all. The next day after the repair had dried, a hairline crack in my ceiling was visible all along the tape lines and the texture was HORRIBLE. I called Handy Man Connection and scheduled Hank came back out on 04/15/14 to look at it, and he sealed the crack with what I was told was "painters caulk". I also pointed out the difference in the "crows feet" texture and told Hank that I was not satisfied with it because it was quite visibly different than what I currently had on my ceiling. I have round textured crows feet on my ceiling and Hank used an oval crows feet brush, which does not match. So, not only did the crows feet not match, but in some areas the texture is very thick and in some areas it is very thin or barely has any texture. In fact, the texture doesn't even look like the rest of my ceiling. It is an eyesore. The guy that did the drywall (Hank) agreed with me and verbally admitted to me that the work he did was not a good job. He said he could come back to scrape or sand the texture down some so that it wouldn't be as obvious in the areas where he made it too thick, but couldn't do it for almost a month because he was going out of town for a couple of weeks. So, I agreed to give him a chance to fix the faulty work, and I agreed to wait a month, even though I didn't really want to. On 05/06/14, Hank came back to my home fix the repair, but before he started the work I went over with him what my expectations were and how I expected the area to look once he was finished, so that there wasn't any confusion or time wasted on either side. After looking at the ceiling again, Hank honestly admitted that he wasn't confident enough that he could do any better than what he already did. He told me that he thought the area looked bad when he was at my home on 04/15/14, but now that he sees it in the natural sun light shining in, he really thinks his work looks bad. Hank told me that "painting and drywall is his least favorite thing to do with Handy Man Connection, and that he normally does and likes to do electrical work for Handy Man Connection, not drywall". I wish Hank had told me that before he started my project because I would not have hired him to do the work. In fact, Handy Man Connection should not have sent me someone that was not skilled in drywall repairs. Handy Man Connection should have made sure that the person they were sending to do my repair liked the work that they were doing. Usually, things turn out better when a person "likes and is passionate" about what they are doing Hank was honest and told me that even if he tried to fix the repair, he wasn't confident enough that it would turn out right. Hank said "the natural light shining into my kitchen really shows the unevenness of the mud and really shows the badly textured areas that he did". Hank said out of his own mouth that "It is a bad job". Since Hank didn't think he could make the job right, he told me that he wanted to call the office and speak to the owner, Craig Aspin to see what he suggested be done. Hank called Craig and told me that he told Craig how bad a drywall repair job he had done and asked Craig if he would refund the money I paid in full so that I could have the work done correctly. Craig said "No" to the full refund and only offered a small refund amount, which I wasn't satisfied with and would not cover the cost of finding someone else to do the work RIGHT. I called the UNPROFESSIONAL OWNER NAMED CRAIG ASPEN to discuss the matter and told him that I was not happy with the refund amount he was offering and that because I have wasted a whole month dealing with this matter, and that Handy Man Connection couldn't fix the problem, and that I was going to have to find someone else to do the repair again, that I wanted a full refund. I also told him that they shouldn't have sent someone out to do such a repair is the person didn't know how to do it and wasn't confident in his own work. In Craig Aspin's own words he told me (in a very rude and sarcastic tone of voice) "that if I wanted a refund, he would send someone out to my house to rip out the complete drywall repair". I told him to go ahead and send someone out to rip it out because it is a HORRIBLE JOB anyway. All I want is my refund. I also told him that I would never use Handy Man Connection again and he said in his own words "I don't care if you use Handy Man Connection ever again in the future". I have used Handy Man Connection in the past and have spent thousands of dollars with Handy Man Connection in the past, and this is the thanks and appropriate problem resolution the owner, Craig Aspin gives to me, one of his customers??? Well, during the call I continued to express my dissatisfaction with the work Hank did and mentioned to him that his own employee that did the work, Hank, says the job he did was a mess. Craig Aspin is a very unreasonable person. Craig Aspin was yelling at me and was very argumentative with me during the phone call. I couldn't get a word in during the call because he went off on a rant and rampage. I could not believe how rude and unprofessional he was being to me when his company made the error and provided faulty work. He said "Oh well, all I can say is that we tried". A job like mine did not require that someone just "TRY", it required that someone do the I wanted done right. I told Craig Aspin that I was going to let Angie's List know about the faulty work that was done in my home, and how rude and disrespectful he was to me as a customer, and that he wouldn't RIGHTFULLY refund my money, and in his own words he said "I don't care what you tell Angie's List". I continued to insist on a refund and finally after several minutes of Craig Aspin raising his voice to me and arguing with me, he said he would send me a refund because (in his own words) "He wants to be done with me". How rude can a person, let alone a owner of a company be? Obviously, Craig Aspin needs to take a training course in Customer Problem Resolution and proper people skills. Craig Aspin inconvenienced me even more by telling me that he would not refund my money to me unless I sent him an email requesting a refund. Why should I have do this when his company is at fault? I went ahead and sent an email requesting a refund while I was on the phone with him. Craig Aspin did nothing to try to make the situation right. Craig Aspin and Handy Man Connection did not want to make the problem right. Craig Aspin did not want to make the wrong one of his employees created right. It is Craig Aspin's responsibility to ensure that the workers he is sending out to do repairs knows what they are doing and if they fail in doing the work, he should be prepared to correct it. Correcting problems is what a owner of a company should be willing to do, but Craig Aspin was not willing to do it, initially, and it was literally like pulling teeth to get Craig Aspin to, hesitantly, agree to refund my money. If he had not agreed to send me my refund, I was fully prepared to contact the Better Business Bureau, the Attorney General's Office and file a lawsuit because the faulty work of Hank with Handy Man Connection in my home and the unacceptable behavior of Craig Aspin. I WILL NEVER USE HANDY MAN CONNECTION AGAIN. I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND THAT ANYONE ELSE USE HANDY MAN CONNECTION. BEWARE!

The price was great as was the quality of the service. We were given a discount but ended up voluntarily paying the full price anyway because we felt that the contractor underestimated the time it would take for the job but still did a great job. The handyman rep called ahead to tell me he would be delayed and arrived at the time he rescheduled. Switched both lights out efficiently. Replaced a fixture over the kitchen sink and an overhead light in the family room. Light over the sink was a single light on a pull string and light in the family room replaced an ancient chandelier with a newer fixture. Lights look great and work fine! I purchased both fixtures at a local hardware store and the handyman rep did the rest. Easy for me!

While we know that we will not be able to satisfy every customer we will continue to try. However in this case the comments made by the member are completely false and inaccurate. At no time did we ever tell him not to bother us and we are too busy. We gave him a estimate for labor and told him that he needed to purchase materials as we do with all of our customers. We told him as soon as he had the vinyl planks he wanted that we would put him on schedule ASAP. He did not agree to the estimate as he felt it was too expensive and tried extensively to cut the price unrealistically. He then asked us to install ceramic tile instead of vinyl for the same price stating that it should cost the same. Obviously there is a huge difference between installing click together or glue down vinyl and ceramic tile. Ceramic tile is much more labor intensive and requires a lot more skill. In any case he never purchased any material but thought we had him on schedule. When we spoke to him last we reminded him again that he would need to purchase his vinyl and let us know when he had it. By this time over a week had passed and still he did not have any material. During this time our contractor had gotten booked out for over two weeks which is normal this time of year. He expressed his displeasure with having to wait even though he still had not purchased any supplies. He told us how unhappy he was, with us even though the entire holdup was on him. This whole situation should have never happened. Our process which we list clearly on our profile and try our best to explain when members call is simple. 1. Call us to get a free estimate.2. If you agree to the price, purchase materials that you like with our help and save contractor markup. 3. Call our office to get on schedule. If [member name removed] would have simply agreed to the price or had gotten other estimates if he wished, his project would be finished now. These situations are unfortunate and we take them seriously as we try to improve our service and we are sorry it happened this way. We do our best to communicate how we operate to every customer. We also strive to keep our estimates free at a time when other service providers are charging to pull in your driveway. We feel our process of providing labor at a up front cost before work starts and saving customers material mark up is the best way to go.
