I had read online that it was about $400-$500 to repair, but they found all the other things wrong so it ended up costing me $900. When I got my car back there was a different knocking. I took it back and they said they needed more money to fix that, of course I didn't take it there again. When I did take it somewhere to get that knocking fixed they said there was a cord under there and it was all mangled up. Needless to say, we don't go there anymore. I would tell others that I did not have good luck there and not to go. Others should be very, very careful - I feel things are over priced. When I first went to the office they were professional, but not when I went back for them to test drive my car.
Description of Work: Glendale Automotive repaired my car after it had a knocking. They also repaired many other things they had found.

I went to Firestone around the corner to get an oil change and to balance/rotate/align tires. They called me to tell me I needed new rear struts, new rear tires, replace both upper and lower radiator hoses, and then flush the coolant system. For $1300! My friend recommended getting a second opinion from Glendale Auto, so we drove around the corner and explained the situation. To make a long story short: there was nothing wrong w/ the hoses, but the clamps were bad so they replaced those for next to nothing. They replaced the rear struts and are going to install and align new rear tires when I get them from a separate vendor. Their total (w/ the Angie's List discount!) was $445 + $150 for the new tires. Glendale literally cut Firestone's estimate in HALF! I know where I'll be going from now on!
Description of Work: They replaced rear struts and radiator hose clamps. They are going to install and align tires as soon as they come in.

I thought this was a lot for changing 2 filters and inspecting hoses and belts, etc, which I doubt took them 3.8 hours. I even called the Toyota dealership to see what a 60K tune-up would cost there and was told the same service they did would be $242.00 ($50.00 less), and that also included a transmission flush. I also had to remind Glendale Automotive to give me the Angie's List discount, even though it was already in their computer. I've been to them in the past and found their services to be good and trustworthy, but was shocked at the charge for this service.
Description of Work: Asked for a 60K mile tune-up without the oil change or tire rotation, as those had just been done. They ended up inspecting everything and changing the engine filter and the cabin filter and charging $291.00 before the Angie's List discount. They did not even change spark plugs, even though that hadn't been done since 30,000 miles. They said most of the cost was for 3.8 hours of labor at $78.00/hr.

I had an appt for Wednesday, today, and I stopped by the shop to have the guys listen to my brakes. They took the car on the spot, gave me a bid on Monday evening, and finished the job by 3:30 pm on Tuesday. Fred the owner offered to let me drive his car if I needed it for the day, but they finished the brakes in time for me to pick it up on Tuesday evening. Fantastic communication. I felt the price was fantastic, given that they needed to replace all of my front brake system and pads in the back. If you are trying to find a trustworthy auto mechanic, you should speak with Fred at Glendale Automotive and see for yourself. Just read the rest of the reviews. Fred must have called me 5 times in 24 hours to update me on the vehicle and the progress his guys were making on the brake job. TWO HUGE THUMBS UP.

Very well! Granted, dropping 1600 smackaroonies isn't always fun, it's easier when you know that you can trust the information you're getting. He was honest about the repairs that needed done and what I could afford to live with for a while if I wanted to. Didn't push the repairs, just gave me the info necessary to make the decision then took care of my Jeep right and quick.

Well, I am always a little shocked by what it costs to get anything done to a car nowadays, but Fred's team is GREAT. His son even dropped me off so I could get my sister's car to take to work. Anyway, as usual, the work made my car run perfectly, so in the long run, I guess you get what you pay for. Attention, Angie's List members: Fred cheerfully gives you the Angie's List discount, no quibbling, no hassles. Top notch service, and all their mechanics are wonderful - knowledgeable, polite and always ready to help. What a team!

My husband had been taking his vehicle to the dealership for the last 2 years, and has progressively become more unhappy with not only the service but the customer relations aspect of the service. We were never happy with the vehicle after it left the dealership, and my husband was really becoming frustrated with dealing with the manager who insisted on charging a diagnostic charge every time the vehicle was brought in ($70). In the past, I had taken my car to Glendale and really liked how I had been treated, and how the car ran afterward. Even though Glendale automotive is located far from our house, my husband agreed to take his car to Glendale for brake work and a tune-up. When the mechanic checked out the car, he noted that the front shocks also needed replaced. We agreed to all the work that they recommended. We have been thrilled with the performance of the van since they did the work. I waited to fill out a report, because I wanted to be sure that we were still happy with its performance 2 months later. We also received an Angies LIst discount, which was really nice. Even though Glendala automotive is located far from our house, it is worth the drive to get our vehicle to a place where we are treated with respect and given a great product. We hope not to be back for a while, but if we need auto work, Glendale will be getting our business.

My car was feeling sick. I needed someone to take a look at it. I checked out the list and found an auto mechanic. It was less than 5 minutes from my house, they had an overall A rating on the list, and they offered free estimates. I called the auto shop, Glendale Automotive located at 2802 E 62nd St Indianapolis, IN 46220, to see when I could get my car in. I offered a description of the problem. Mike, the mechanic I spoke to, said he thought he knew what the problem was and told me to bring my car into the shop in two days. Mike said he would be able to look at my car, diagnose the problem and provide a free estimate. I dropped my car off on a Thursday morning. Late in the day on Thursday I still had yet to hear from the mechanic. So I gave them a call. Mike was very short with me and said they were still looking at the car and it might take until the next day until they could fully diagnose the problem. That's fine. I've had many a mechanics take more than 24 hours to diagnose a problem. So Friday (the next day) rolls around. No word from the mechanic in the morning. No word from the mechanic by lunch. No word from the mechanic by 3. Finally after NEVER RECEIVING A PHONE CALL I called them around 5pm. Another mechanic picks up the phone, I tell him what I'm calling about (to find out the diagnosis and estimate on my car) and he says that the car STILL has not been fully diagnosed AND that Mike had left early for the day. "No problem" I said, and asked what time will he would be in the following day. "Well, we're closed on the weekends" the mechanic said. I WAS LIVID. Not only had Mike NOT CONTACTED me AT ALL (I had made the call every time) he neglected to let me in on the fact that their shop was CLOSED ON THE WEEKENDS. So after a very long, cold and car-less weekend I call up the mechanic on Monday morning to find out what's going on. I maintained my composure and didn't blow up on the mechanic who answered the phone. I figured after (a) never calling me (b) informing me the car hadn't been fully diagnosed and (c) not letting me know they were closed on the weekend they would offer a brief apology. Not the case. I asked the mechanic what the diagnosis was and he tells me my distributor had 'possibly' gone bad. Not even a "100% here's what's wrong with your car" diagnosis. He tells me with parts and labor it would cost in excess of $800.00 to fix my car. I tell the mechanic that $800.00 is too much and I can't afford it. He understood and told me I could come pick up my car whenever I could. He also tells me I owe approximately $80 for the 'estimate'. I tell him the coupon in Angie's List magazine offered 'Free Estimates' with no stipulations. He asks me who told me I would get a discount. I tell him the coupon they have in Angie's List magazine AND Mike the mechanic told me I would get a free estimate. He said it was no problem. They wouldn't charge me an estimate. So I get down to their shop to pick up my car which I haven't seen in 5 days. Mike is standing there with his superior. The superior has my work contract in his hands and he says, "look, I don't want to argue about this, we're not going to charge you a fee for the estimate but if you ever come back for any work we're going to charge you the fee." Mike is standing right next to him and didn't offer a single word to back me up. Car problem follow up: I ended up taking my car to another mechanic. He offered a REAL free estimate. Turns out my car needed a simple tune up; a couple of new plugs and wires. It ended up costing me around $150.00 total. I told him I had taken my car to a previous mechanic (Glendale Automotive) and they were going to charge me around $800.00 to replace my distributor that was going out. He laughs and tells me when a distributor like my car has starts to go it fails completely, not partially. This wasn't mentioned AT ALL by the 'seasoned and experienced' Glendale Automotive.
Description of Work: I got an estimate on my car.

Response from Glendale Automotive
We have clearly marked on our doors that we are closed weekends. We were unable to diagnose definitively his condition and we informed him of that. I do charge for engine diagnostics and there was a misunderstanding between myself and the customer. I rescinded the diagnostic charge due to that fact. We are regretful of this situation and understand his frustration. As far as the other mechanics reference, I will not argue that when a distributor fails it :usually: fails completely. I have never, nor will i ever tolerate a unneeded sale. I informed him we were unable to definitively determine the problem as well. I will as a result of this refine my listing with Angie's list to reflect a diagnostic charge for engine check outs as the listing is unclear on that. I accept full responsibility for my mechanics. The member talked to myself (Fred Kuhn) and the mechanic Steve). Mike has not worked here for over a year. The memberwas not charged a fee on this visit but was informed that if he were to come back in there would be a fee. I stand behind my work and my abilities 100% and regret that the member had a unpleasant visit with us. My reputation is important to me and the other 249 reports show that attitude towards my customer relations. In closing, I wish we had been able to determine themember's problem with his car but am happy he found someone who was able to inexpensively repair his problem. Had the member expressed his complete disdain with us, I would have done everything in my power to have made him happy. I regret that he wrote a failing report before contacting me for a amicable discussion with myself.

Car was making high pitched squeal sound - we thought it was brakes. Turned out the front brake pads did need replaced but the alternator belt and timing belt were needing replaced as well. The alternator belt was getting ready to break and that was the squeal we were hearing. I took it in for an estimate on the brakes and was called later that day with an estimate and explanation of the belt (the real issue). It was done the next day which was a Friday late afternoon. Since we couldn't get there before they closed and they're not open on the weekends, the owner offered to meet us there after hours or on Saturday so that we didn't have to go the whole weekend without our car. We've taken both of our vehicles to Glendale Auto for the past several years and have always had courteous and prompt service, fair estimates and explanation of services with options explained. They always remember our Angie's List disount on labor. We wouldn't think of taking our cars anywhere else and recommend them to anyone we know who needs auto service.

My breaks had suddenly started to make a noise not unlike the noises I would expect to hear from a herd of dying panthers. Something like, "Mrrraaaawwwwrrrrr!" over and over again. I assumed I needed new break pads (and maybe new rotors) and so I pulled over, checked Angie's List on my iPhone and called the highly-rated Glendale Automotive about 3 minutes after they opened and they told me to come right over--they'd be able to work on it the same day. They called me about 2 hours after I dropped my car off to give me a quote and get the OK to start work. I did need new rotors (all four of them), so the price was on the high end of what I expected to pay, but they gave me the Angie's List discount and broke down what the cost covered and it was extremely fair.

They had to put me up on a lift to check, but they then stated that I did not need brakes or a new battery. So I ended up paying $39.00 instead of $900.00 and they said there was about 15,000 miles left on the brakes. This was refreshing to hear from an automotive provider. I would them to others.

I've used them before and I've been very happy and this service experience reinforced my positive opinion of them and their work. Fred gave me a call the morning after I dropped the truck off to let me know what they found, and he called me again about an hour later to let me know my truck was ready to go. I'm thrilled with their honesty -- I was prepared to and expected to spend a lot of money for new brakes. They could have gone to town and told me I needed a lot of expensive but ultimately unnecessary work, and I wouldn't have been the wiser. The fact that they're completely and consistently honest about the scope of work required and that they're quick on turnaround and communication will keep me as a lifetime customer. Thanks guys!
Description of Work: My 2003 Ford Ranger was producing some terrible brake shrieking. Every time I slowed for a stop light, it sounded like a banshee wailing. When I approached crosswalks and started braking, pedestrians would approach the crosswalk and turn away. When I purchased the car in December 2008, the dealership told they had replaced the front pads and checked the rear drums and shoes when they took the truck as a trade-in, but they hadn't replaced or repaired them. I figured it was time for a rear brake job. I've used Glendale before and I trust them and their work, so I made an appointment to have everything checked out and replaced if necessary. Although I had to schedule a couple days in advance (they're a smaller shop that's very popular), they had no problem accommodating my work schedule and I dropped the truck off after work one evening. The next morning, Fred gave me a call and said everything checked out OK. My brakes had plenty of life left in them, negating a replacement. The only thing that might help with the squeaky shrieking was a cleaning and adjustment. That, along with an oil change I was already planning on asking them to perform, came out to less than $80. Far less than the $300 to $400 I was prepared to spend on new brakes!

I am 100% satisfied and so happy to have found Glendale Automotive. They deserve their superior rating, and I will be back (though I hope not too soon!). The other two mechanics had good ratings on Angie's List, but these guys deserve theirs.
Description of Work: I first went to a mechanic and was told the rear differential was going out of my car and would cost $1500 to repair (he said he would call me with an estimate, but he never did). I went to a second mechanic who wanted $50 to "look at it." I found Glendale Automotive on Angie's List. I was impressed with the reviews, and they were close to home. I stopped in on my lunch hour and was told they could do the work right then for approximately $450. It was NOT the differential but was a wheel bearing. The owner took me back to work and picked me up after work. He was very nice and honest. He did a "little extra" but did not charge me for it. I feel so lucky to have found Glendale Automotive. I now have a mechanic I can trust.

I had a wonderful experience with Glendale Automotive. My brakes had been noisy for awhile and I knew I needed new brake pads and probably new rotors. I called GA on a Friday and asked for a rough estimate. He quoted me a price that sounded reasonable so I made an appointment for the following Monday. I dropped the car off Monday morning and received a call soon after telling me I needed new front brake pads, rotors, and a cleaning of my rear brake pads. I asked if they could turn the rotors(I apologize for not having the exact terminology for this procedure so I hope you know what I mean) instead of replacing them to save me money. He said he would try. They called later that afternoon to let me know my car was ready. He had been able to turn the rotors instead of replacing them and my final price was exactly what he had quoted me over the phone the previous Friday. It was actually a little less with the AngiesList discount. I will always take my car here from now on.
