WHEN I TOLD HIM WE HAD A COUPLE OF OTHER LOWER QUOTES (ONE ABOUT $2,500 LESS THAN HIS QUOTE), HE EXPRESSED HIS CONCERNS. HE EXPLAINED THAT IT MUST BE A LOW-END UNIT AND THEY PROBABLY USE FLEX-DUCT. HE SAID THEY NEVER USE IT, BECAUSE IT PRODUCES CARCINOGENS AND HAS BEEN OUTLAWED IN CANADA AND A FEW STATES. PERSONALLY, IT SOUNDED MORE LIKE A SCARE TACTIC THAN ANYTHING. A FEW OTHER HEATING PEOPLE I TALKED TO HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THAT EITHER. IF THIS IS A TRUE STATEMENT, I WOULD LIKE TO SEE A WRITE-UP/MORE INFORMATION ABOUT IT. AT THE END, HE PITCHED THEIR HIGH-VELOCITY FORCED AIR SYSTEM ( $24,000 FOR THE ENTIRE HOUSE).
Description of Work: I GOT AN ESTIMATE FROM BOLLS TO REPAIR MY STEAM BOILER/SYSTEM AND AN ESTIMATE FOR A NEW FORCED AIR SYSTEM. EVERYONE I SPOKE TO WAS VERY FRIENDLY AND INFORMATIVE, BUT THEIR ESTIMATES SEEMED VERY HIGH. TO GET THE BOILER SYSTEM UP TO PAR, THEY QUOTED $7,000-10,000, WHICH SEEMED VERY EXCESSIVE SINCE THE BOILER IS ABOUT 10 YEARS OLD AND STILL WORKED. THE LOW-WATER CUT-OFF DOES NEED TO BE WORKED ON AND A FEW PIPES NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED OR MOVED. OTHER THAN THAT, HE SUGGESTED THAT TO MAKE THE SYSTEM RUN CORRECTLY, I SHOULD ADD SEVERAL MORE RADIATORS, AS WELL AS ADD A RESERVE TANK AND SUPPLY PUMP TO FEED THE RESERVE BACK TO THE BOILER. FOR FORCED AIR QUOTE (HEATING ONLY), THE PRICES SEEMED A LITTLE HIGH ($6,000+ - UPSTAIRS UNIT IN AN ATTIC AND $8,000+ - DOWNSTAIRS UNIT IN A BASEMENT - USING ''AVERAGE'' 80% UNITS). THE SALESMAN EXPLAINED THEIR PRICES ARE A LITTLE HIGH, BECAUSE THEY USE ''QUALITY'' UNITS AND THEY CUSTOM BUILD ALL OF THE ALUMINUM DUCT WORK AT THEIR SHOP.

ASKED THEM TO COME OUT FOR AN ESTIMATE. WHEN TECHNICIAN GOT THERE HE WANTED TO CHARGE FOR A SERVICE CALL. I WANTED TO USE THE ANGIE'S LIST COUPON FOR A DISCOUNT ON THE SERVICE CALL BUT THEN THE TECHNICIAN SAID THIS WASN'T A SERVICE CALL, IT WAS A DIAGNOSTIC CALL AND THAT THE COUPON WASN'T VALID. I FINALLY GOT THE ESTIMATE BUT IT WAS A BIG HASSLE

MY WIFE MET WITH THE REPRESENTATIVE. SHE HAD QUESTION AFTER QUESTION. THE GENTLEMAN WAS EXTREMELY INFORMATIVE AND NEVER WAVERED OVER THE QUESTIONS. HE EVEN SUPPLIED EXTRA INFORMATION. TOLD HER THEY WERE NOT THE CHEAPEST AVAILABLE BUT GAVE US A CHOICE OF THREE DIFFERENT SYSTEMS. WE WERE BLESSED IN THAT THEY HAD THE TIME TO INSTALL THE SYSTEM SOONER THAN EXPECTED, AND FELT COMFORTABLE ENOUGH TO ALLOW THEM ACCESS TO OUR HOME WHILE WE WERE AT WORK. THEY DID NOT VIOLATE THAT TRUST. WE EXPECTED SUPERB SERVICE FROM BOLL'S AND WE WERE NOT DISAPPOINTED.

REGARDING PUNCTUALITY, A COMPANY REPRESENTATIVE CAME TO THE HOUSE TWICE- ONCE TO CLEAN THE FURNACE AND GIVE US AN ESTIMATE ON HAVING SOME WORK DONE. THIS SERVICE MAN, WHO WAS HERE FIRST, WAS ALMOST TWO HOURS LATE. WHEN I CALLED THE OFFICE TO INQUIRE, THEY WERE REALLY COURTEOUS AND RESPONSIVE AND CALLED ONCE THE SERVICE MAN WAS REALLY ON HIS WAY. THE SECOND TIME, THE PERSON WHO WAS GIVING US THE ESTIMATE, WAS ONLY 10-15 MINUTES LATER THAN WHAT HE SAID, THIS I CAN TOLERATE, NOT TWO HOURS HOWEVER.
