They did very good work, although we did have to call a supervisor back when we found a space that had not been done. But once they notified the supervisor, they were very quick to come back and correct the problem. We were very satisfied with their work in the past.

It went well. They were professional, prompt, and thorough. They removed old cabinets and fixtures, flooring, and two appliances that were to be replaced. They then installed new cabinets, fixtures, ceramic tile flooriing and appliances. They kept pretty well to their schedule, and we enjoyed the workmen who participated. They also made several helpful suggestions during the project.

Overall the project went fairly well. It took longer than expected due to some delays. There were some aspects of the project that I felt would not have been completed properly unless I had caught and brought them to Gettum's attention. For instance, I had to have the dry waller back three (3) times to fix repairs to the drywall that were not done right the first time, I had to have the electrician come back three (3) times to properly vent the exhaust fans. I had to ask that some form of temporary weather proofing, more than the piece of cardboard they had put in place, be done when they cut the opening where the glass blocks were going for the new shower window. The opening had been cut and the glass blocks were not arriving till days later...remember this work was being done in February!
Vinny, the tile guy, did a fantastic job on installing the backer board, waterproofing, installing the under floor heating and tile work. Suburban Glass did a great job of working with us to speck out a new glass door, measure and install it.
Most of my issues with the project were not with Gettum but with the sub contractors they hired. Gettum needs to follow up and check the work of their sub contractors. The homeowner should not be doing that. At the time of final payment, Gettum had asked for additional monies to cover the cost of some items I felt were already included in the scope of the project. I reluctantly paid them... So I gave them a B for price as I thought the work and quality as I had to point out obvious issues with some of the sub contractors work.

We had an excellent experience with this company. Adrian was very helpful and attentive to our concerns. Our 13 year old roof with 35 year shingles began leaking in multiple places and was found to have multiple areas of wind damage where the singles had lifted. Adrian worked with our insurance company to get the entire project covered through our homeowners insurance. This was no small feat, as prior to switching to Gettum, we had spent the prior 4 months working with a different roofing company which did not have much luck with our insurance company (only agreed to replace one slope of our multi-sloped roof with non-matching shingles). Our experience with Gettum Associates was a night and day difference from the first roofing company we contacted. Adrian was excellent with communication and contacted us frequently throughout the process. He was very attentive to any concern we may have had. The roof looks great and I am very happy with the finished project. They also put the roof on in the middle of winter (February) in effort to prevent any additional interior damage from the leaking roof. We also had Gettum replace some hail damaged gutters and paint/repair the ceilings of our home where the roof was leaking (the interior painting was contracted out to a different company). I was very pleased with the entire process. After four months of headaches with another roofing company in the area (which actually has decent reviews on Angie's List), our experience with Gettum was much appreciated.

We like them a lot and we would use them again. They are quick and accurate. They didn't dilly-dally and got everything done within the time frame they said and if they thought they were going to be slow they brought in extra people in. They are very professional and did very good solid work.

The salesman, who also drew up our plans presented a "tray" ceiling in the library design which was not what we wanted & asked him to redesign the library to give us our vaulted ceiling, which he did. During the construction phase the foreman told me he would install a ?4-foot flat" on our vaulted ceiling to bring it down as he didn't like vaulted ceilings. He stated his dislike of vaulted ceilings 4 times during this conversation & kept trying to get me to agree to lower our library ceiling. I refused & they finished the ceiling as we originally agreed. I reported this to my salesman on the phone (who had also tried to get us to change our design, remember?). The salesman laughed & told me this foreman had stated a similar dislike of another client's project prior to mine.
When the common wall in the dining room was taken out to open our new addition to the original house structure, we discovered that the new wall in the addition was 6 inches shorter than the adjoining wall in the dining room...NOT WHAT WE WANTED!! These two walls were supposed to be the exact same height, providing a clean line from dining room ceiling (8 feet) to where the new vaulted ceiling meets the new & adjoining back wall of the addition. We did not want this to LOOK like an addition & were very clear with the salesman about this particular detail. At this point the drywall had been installed & construction was done.
When the salesman came out to discuss this with us the next day we got excuses about how the vaulted ceiling was constructed...which was irrelevant. Having personally spent years building homes for Habitat for Humanity, I knew what he was describing & knew it had nothing to do with the height of our new back wall, & told him so. Then he said that if they had built the back wall as we wanted it would not look right as it would not line up with the roof line along the back of the house, which is irrelevant - the only other first floor roofline along the back of our 2 story house is the down side/point of the garage roof clear on the other end of the house & only visible from our heavily wooded back yard. He also said that the 6-inch difference of the back roofline of the addition to the front roofline (32 feet away) would be noticeable from the side of the house - again a heavily wooded area 45 feet from the road. We had discussed these roof line & roof pitch issues with the salesman during the early design phase, standing out in that side yard, & told him it was not important to us since the only way to view the side of the addition was from the woods. He claimed we did not discuss this. I asked him that since all his reasons/answers were not related to structural safety or integrity, could it have been possible to build the addition the way we wanted it? He said yes. Husband & I devised a "fix" idea to hide the design flaw/gap also visible on adjoining wall due to the wall height differences & drywall/mud covers were installed in both corners of this opening.
We discovered a day later, during a roof inspection on the original house roof for a leak, that Gettum had installed wood trim all along the house wall where the new roofline meets the siding. This did not match anything related to design on our existing house & was not discussed with us. My roofer also found exposed structural wood & "nail pops" causing several shingles to be raised rather than flat. There appeared to be no flashing running to the end of the house wall front & back where original wood trim exists. The "nail pops" have been fixed but there is still no flashing to the end of the wall. We will hire Bone Dry to fix this for us.
Twice during the construction I had to tell workers there is no smoking onsite, once was when I found a worker smoking inside the addition. Both times were during the drywall phase. Also related to drywall, a worker came to clean up after the primary install of drywall & brought his wife & two small children into my home addition. I was stunned & concerned that I'd be liable if a child was hurt on the jobsite. Very unprofessional!
The owner, Phil Gettum came to our property to discuss these problems & gave us all the same excuses as the salesman. He said they had done something extra, at great expense by installing the wood trim along the roofline & after we stated we did not agree to it & it did not match anything on the original house he agreed to have it removed. He said that when I "yelled" at a worker for smoking on the property the worker told him I was "a real b****" - which Mr. Gettum said very loudly & dramatically. He was quite grand in his opinion of how his company had provided us with their best & was not going to alter/rebuild to our specifications (which we had not requested), stated arrogantly how he was not going to offer a discount (which we did not request). He said we signed off on the plans & should have known what we were getting. We then asked the salesman if he had explained to us that the new wall would not be the same height at the existing & adjoining wall he said no. Phil Gettum was insulting to me, sarcastic about our dissatisfaction, belittled me for planning to report our problems to Angies List & he was told to leave our property. He later apologized to my husband via email but did not apologize to me.
Other problems we experienced relate to things like scheduling, carpet & painting. We were supposed to be given a printout of the work schedule but did not receive this until 3 weeks into the project, which meant on the days when no one showed up to work I had to call & ask why. My painter was not informed by their construction foreman about doing painting in phases. Now, at the end of the project, we had to request the "final inspection" since no one had contacted us to set it up, so my husband called them.
Prior to the carpet installation, which I had to shop & purchase separately, the construction foreman came to fill holes in the floor slab but he did not level the concrete floor where the new floor slab met with the old. He said the carpet installers would "have something to fill that in" & left. There was a slight trench where the old slab met with the new, & in half of this area the new concrete is slightly higher than the old concrete floor. My carpet company does not level concrete floors, as I learned when they came to put down the carpet. My carpet installer said it "would have cost the builder $20 in leveling compound to take care of this problem" but my carpet installers did not offer this service. Later, I called several other carpet companies in Indianapolis & asked if they provided floor leveling & some said they did not, & some said they could if it was requested prior to laying of the pad & carpet since time is required for "curing" of the material. We now have a ridge in the floor under our carpet in half of this floor area. Gettum told us they were sorry for the misunderstanding & did not offer to fix this for us.
The painting of the new addition, which I also had to shop & purchase separately, was done in one day & it is then that we discovered that the ventilation bulkhead on one wall of the library had been built crooked. Clearly, no one, including the construction foreman, had put a level on this structure to check - the bottom surface slanted up on one end & down on the end that met with the new office wall. Realizing this would have to be corrected the painter said the builder would have to pay him to come back & re-prime & paint this area. When I spo

Gettum & Associates immediatly installed protective material for all working areas to protect carpet, stairs. Installed dust barriers so no dust entered the Master Bedroom. Gettum coordinated all skilled trades, electrical, plumbing, ceramics, All debris was removed daily, all areas swept and cleaned daily. Workers were polite and mindful of our needs. We have a home office used daily and they were very mindful of noise. They did not play loud music, eat in the area, or smoke. The design phase went well, very professional . We chose them because they have been in business for many years and we believe we would have no problem if we had to call them back. We may have paid a little more than if we had two men in a pick up but we wanted quality and dependability and we certainly received it.

Our concrete work was in need of replacement. Gettum Associates removed the apron in front of the garage door, the side door slab, the walkways around the side and front of the house and the entire front porch and the five steps ascending to it. New concrete was poured and finished in a light broom-sweep texture. All concrete work was sealed. A brick support column on the front porch was in need of repair. The column was dismantled and reconstructed with new and old brick. Everything matches. Our chimney was also in poor shape. It was rebuilt and looks great! As usual with Gettum Associates the work was professional, efficient and completed punctually by very friendly people!
Earlier in the summer Gettum and Associates had completed a major remodeling job for us. (Separate Angie's List report). The very positive results of that project was the reason we asked them to handle our concrete work. Again, we were very, very pleased with the final outcome! Gettum Associates is a terrific company to do business with!

We have a tudor style home. Gettum Associates upgraded the cedar siding and fascia boards with Hardie Panel fiber-cement board. They also crafted an Azek cellular "widow's walk" railing that matched the old cedar one exactly. We stayed with the same paint and color schemes. Gettum Associates matched all paints exactly and applied two coats perfectly. The paint was Sherwin Williams' Duration. The paint and Hardie Panel have lifetime guarantees. The idea was to substantially reduce future maintenance costs. A new steel garage door and opening system was installed. The door is painted to match the house. A fiberglass side door and side light glass panel were installed to replace the old steel door. All exterior doors were painted to match. Another great paint job! Two new fiberglass doors were installed on our sun porch and were painted to match that scheme. All new gutters and downspouts were installed. The new six inch versions will handle water flow more effectively than the old 4 inch gutters. Gettum Associates located gutters that complement the color and paint schemes thus no painting was necessary. Our home was always dark in the upstairs hallway. Gettum Associates installed a Velux light tube which totally transformed the atmosphere in that area of the house. Gettum Associates also installed six new locks and handsets for various doors throughout the house. All we had to do was buy the handsets and locks. Gettum Associates installed them at no additional cost. In the course of completing the project Gettum Associates was able to manage the alarm system and TV cables. It was not necessary to contact those companies for re-installation purposes.
Gettum Associates is a great company. Their work is of the highest quality. The people that completed our project were all professional, efficient, punctual and friendly. That's important! We would very highly recommend Gettum Associates for any type of construction or remodeling project!
