Description of Work: Replaced all sheeting around fireplace due to a leak. They didn't finish first day and were not going to come back the next day as they said they had another commitment but, I asked them to finish my job and they did so. Supervisor was very easy to work with and always tired to accommodate us.

Description of Work: We did a total bath remodel deal. The final price was three times the initial deal price partly because the allowances were unrealistically low. The tile work was excellent but all other work was below average, including defective plumbing. Communication by the contractor was poor.

Response from Apex Design Build
This client purchased one of our "Big Deal" specials from Angies List. A site visit was performed prior to go over the desired scope of work for the bathroom. The client wanted to extend the shower area by removing and re-framing a wall, open up the ceiling areas to increase ceiling height of the area above the shower as well as the shower area. There were many "wants" that the client desired for the bathroom and all were lined itemized with cost prior to commencement of the bathroom remodel. Client wanted to perform the additional work above and beyond the Big Deal scope. She also had us replace the bathroom waste plumbing that was defective, lower bathroom ceiling, and full paint at lower bathroom. Client went above and beyond with her taste in her selections. My final invoice for all labor and materials with the $1250 allowance came to $9011. I'm not sure where the client figured 3 x the Big Deal. She may of factored in the cost of the Custom Shower Glass that I gave her my cost directly. I believe the remark in communication was from myself having to contact the client repeatedly after no response for payment 10 days after invoice was sent. The clients bathroom turned out beautiful. Issue with slight drip at drain line was handled next day after informed. I thank you for your feedback..

Description of Work: Re-modeled upstairs bath. Timely, good quality control, easy to work with, and cost just over half of what two other Angie's List contractors bid the job. No nickel and diming over extras/changes/unforeseen stuff in a 50 year old production home. No need to purchase all the fixtures through them; buy them where you want and Apex will install. Couldn't be more pleased. David also figured out a clever, relatively cheap and high quality solution to our upstairs exterior wall (Cape Cod house) insulation and condensation issues.

Description of Work: I had hired them to install 2 fans. They told me that I didn't need new fans and that they could fix the ones I had. They did fix the one in the front bedroom but now none of the outlets work. They were unable to fix the one in the LR but gave me a piece out of it and told me if I got a new one then it would work. I discovered the manufacturer no longer supports this item. I tried to get ahold of them but got confused about how to do that so I have no discussed this with the contractor.

Description of Work: Terrible. Poor workmanship. A few of the contract employees were ok (men who put on faucets). The only one good Apex employee was let go. Two other Apex employees showed extremely poor quality of work. When my husband pointed out problems, the owner told my husband that he was "micromanaging." One of the employees argued and was mouthy.

Dear Client, I am sorry that you feel the quality of work was not present on your remodel. Your husband had chosen to perform painting and certain parts of the remodel to save overall on costs. We remodeled 2 of your bathrooms consisting of tile work, vanity set, and plumbing for your upstairs main bathroom as well as your master bathroom. Confusion does tend to ensue and excitement when a homeowner takes on part of the remodeling process in order to save money. This puts timelines on your progress as well as ours to make everything work. I apologize that you feel the one of the gentlemen was "mouthy" in his communication. This was never brought to my attention during or after your remodel completed in November 2014. As per our last email communication when jobs were ending, I copy/ pasted this excerpt form your husband: " good morning. The master bath floor is coming along good. We are happy with the way it is coming out. The shower pan looks great. I have another person coming in on Monday to reglaze the tubs. I could get that done for over half the price of a new ones. I in no way had any inclination that there was an issue and if you have any warranty issues we would of addressed if contacted. Thank you for your feedback..

Description of Work: The owner and I clashed on several occasions. I used Lifestyle Group previously and their showroom system was a benefit in that you could match colors, styles, etc. the white shades/colors of tub, toilet, sink did not match. When you order and choose online you can not really verify that the colors match. The owner was very upset with me when I expressed frustration about the colors not matching. The tradesman were polite and helpful, however. I think you get what you pay for, and so, the 50 percent off doesn't really end up being a bargain in the long run. I made a mistake when reading the invoice which also led to further communication issues. I paid as soon as I was aware. I never felt like a customer. I felt like I was a client that was interrupting their day. I have never done an online review before, but I felt that the issues really lie in the "discounts" that come to email inbox. In the end, I think the companies deserve the full price for their services and the customer deserves the better "full price" experience.

Client purchased one of our Big Deal specials through Angieslist which allows the client the freedom to choose their own products to be purchased and installed therefore cutting the costs of a showroom and someone to manage it. Situations that arose with this indecisive client were as follows: Client did not order enough of her special order tile even though correct footage was given to her to convey where she purchased. Which caused us to pull off the job for 5 days until it arrived. Client chose an American Standard Spacesaver bathtub in white to be purchased from Lowes as well as an American Standard Champion Toilet also in white. She took it upon herself to purchase a vanity/ top from an online supplier. Upon completion of the bathroom, the client called me the following day. I promptly returned her call and she had informed me that she was not happy with the supposed varying shades of white from her tub selection (fiberglass), toilet (porcelain) and her sink basin (porcelain). I asked her what I could do for her, as the selections she gave me to purchase for the bathtub/ toilet were both of the same manufacturer and shouldn't differ. She right away started yelling and said to not be a smart@#$. She said she wanted to check around for a different toilet. I was able to let her know after she calmed down that I would send the plumber to return upon arrival of her newly selected special order toilet and install at no additional charge (which should of been charged @ $105). I had then asked her to please leave payment at her residence so we could collect upon installation of her new toilet. Client emailed me to advise that she had the new toilet on site and she mailed the check the day prior (Thursday). We returned on Friday February 5th to install toilet. I awaited for her final payment check, 3 days had passed and it wasn't received (Monday). I reached out to the client in an email to inquire as to where payment was mailed, she advised to the address on the invoice. I let her know the following day that the check hadn't arrived (Tuesday) and requested that the supposed mailed check be stopped and a new one issued and we would return to her residence to pick up. Client then gave a story as to how the original check had been attempted to be cashed at a 5/3 Bank in which she wrote the check from that bank. Clients final payment check weren't even written on that bank, they were written from Charles Schwab. Which now makes me think she had lied about mailing her check in the first place. Client then wrote a check to pay a portion of the final bill and tried to explain that my invoice was not clear. She had shorted final payment by $768.49 I reached out to her via a phone call, once again client continued on a rant and hung up. I was able to collect all the monies due for the project via check but haven't deposited as of yet (Will deposit today). I truly believe this client has/ will take advantage of contractors and does not explain the full truths. I have reviewed her AL history and she has left 4 reviews besides ours: 1- A, 1-B, 1-C, and 1-D in which she states she doesn't do online reviews Thank you for your feedback....
