He matched the paint can with the paint to make sure it matched up. The painter who showed up was punctual, quiet, and and finished the job in two days. The firm offered to come back for touch ups, but they did not need to. I would use them again. Todd, the owner, is on the ball.

+ 0 moreWill add to this when 3rd project (kitchen and mud room) is complete. It's all done, and has been done for over a year.. This plaster house has taught me I never want another, unless the surfaces are all smooth to start with. Todd and his crew finished our two bedrooms upstairs, joining two rooms together as one, removing and finishing over a door, making the two ceiings from the two rooms match as it was now one very large master bedroom. They skimcoated the walls in the upstairs bath. They did the same thing with the laundry room, hall, and downstairs bath, a bonus room, a foyer, large living room, dining room and kitchen. Skim coating, priming, sanding, touch ups, then painting. He recommended paint colors, and refreshed my memory with the satins, flats, etc.l as to hiding flaws. He was great, personable, professional. I would definitely use them again for challenging work. We are getting ready to sell this house and all the walls and ceilings still look great!
Description of Work: I contacted Todd several months ago, to give me an estimate on exterior and interior painting on a house we had just purchased. Numerous times, due to my distance from the house, and my work schedule, I had to postpone our meeting. Todd was an absolute professional, exercising courtesy, professionalism and patience. We finally met, at the house, in August. He was on time, courteous and pleasant. I had an estimate for each job, in my email that evening, and by postal mail within a couple of days. We have communicated, via email, several times since then and have come to an agreement on my first interior project to be completed, hopefully, this month. Update: Todd's crew skimcoated walls in two bedrooms in 1960's house with all plaster walls. In the larger room, which was the result of taking out a wall with two closets, they hung drywall over the two ceilings, that didn't match, finished out, primed and painted the ceiling. Closed off a door and drywalled over it and finished it out, skimcoated walls and primed. In the smaller room, repaired a heavily textured ceiling, and painted the ceiling, skimcoated the walls, filling several unused electrical/telephone/speaker openings. They took the time to do it right, priming it so they could see any flaws in their work. They colored their primer to match the paint I was going to use. The week of Oct. 16, they skimcoated an odd shaped laundry room; walls and ceiling, the hallway outside of the room and bathroom. They completely removed all the plaster in the bath and drywalled ceiling and walls. We were going to have to use wainscotting to cover damaged plaster but now we can paint and decorate. Both the laundry room and bath look great!! This week, they start work on two more areas; a kitchen where they will hang drywall on the ceiling, and drywall the walls, around constructed pantries and altered door openings, and finish out to match existing plaster, and skimcoat. And a large mudroom where they have removed the ceiling plaster and plaster on one wall that had previously been wet, hang drywall over a faux brick wall with multiple openings, and finish out the room to tie in with the kitchen. Todd is the ultimate professional and his crew leader, Ray, is an expert as well as polite and a hard worker. They leave no trash, no lunch debris, no cans, cigarettes-NOTHING behind each day. We have left our own tools and supplies in the house, without us being there, with no worries. Todd has responded promptly to every question or concern I have had. 10/31/11

I felt we were put on the schedule without having to wait very long. The team of painters was very nice and did excellent work. I went with this company as they also moved the heaviest pieces of furniture which neither I nor my husband would have been able to do. Todd was easy to communicate with before, during and at the end of this process.

+ 0 moreI thought they were below average. I have some more painting to be done and I won't call them. I am particular about painting and they didn't do it particularly to my satisfaction but I didn't complain about it. I think it is as good as it gets. I thought they did a less than average job. They started to do our front door but stopped half way because they complained they had to strip it instead of just sanding it off. I let them get away without doing it as I wanted them to go inside the house and get the inside finished. They didn't finish it and I had to finish it. We had new windows put in and they were primed at the factory and I wanted these guys to paint it with enamel and he didn't want to do it with enamel and he did it with a water base. I didn't like it and I re-did those. I am picky about my painting. The workers were polite. We had to wait and wait for him. They were always punctual once they got here.

+ 0 moreOnce the drywallers got into the wall, they discovered that the damage was much more extensive. After the appropriate roof repair, the drywalling continued and has turned out beautifully. It was a big job that included painting the previously stained woodwork. The walls were in bad shape and needed extensive repair before painting. Todd's crew did a wonderful job and all areas are beautiful. When areas presented problems that had not been anticipated, the team pressed on until a perfect surface resulted. Besides the terrific job that was done, the team was respectful, prompt, clean and courteous. Todd was in touch with us every day to keep us updated on the progress and the schedule and any issues that had been discovered. I have no complaints and would use them again without hesitation.
Description of Work: The project started with drywall repair on an area that had been damaged by a roof leak. Then that wall, along with the rest of the 2-story entry, stairway, upstairs hallway and entire kitchen were painted, including painting the stained trim and doors.

+ -1 moreThis job was a challenge. On the first day it was discovered that a long wall had water behind the drywall. The entire wall's insulation was soaked due to a crack in the mortar outside. The plastic covering the insulation had held the moisture inside except for moisture that was slowly seeping in at the bottom part of the wall. All of this had to be replaced. We fixed the cracks outside and gave it a few days to dry out. The old ceilings had never been primed and soaked up paint like a sponge and then took a few days to dry. These unforseen problems caused the job to take a little longer than anticipated. I had guests coming in and was concerned that the project would not be finished in time. Todd Cartmel was very nice to work with, was knowledgeable and kept me in the loop at all stages. He also consulted other professionals to to determine why the wall held all the mositure and how to treat the problem. He assured me the job would be fixed by the date I needed and he saw that it was. His painters and plasterers were were professional and worked skillfully and quickly. They cleaned up at the end of each day. Todd and I talked or e-mailed everday and I was consulted at each stage. I would definitely use ths company again.
Description of Work: One long wall had all of the drywall and insulation torn out and replaced. Plastering of that wall and small ceiling patch plus plastering of many seam cracks in 2 rooms, hallway, stairwell, kitchen and entryway. Ceilings in two large rooms, entryway and hallways were given two coats of paint. The large living room and larger family were primed and painted.

+ -1 moreI have used the Painting Edge for several years for interior and exterior work. Todd Cartmel and his crew consistently do exceptional work. I periodically check their prices with other Angie's List providers and the Painting Edge is always competitive, if not the least expensive. Color picking is not easy for me, so Todd offers color consultation. He never rushes me to make a decision about the large samples he has the paint store makeup and then delivers to our home. The finished color is stylish, practical, and beautiful. Todd makes recommendations about the best paint product for the job. In this case, he had a special solution for bathroom mold and the basement walls are done in a finish that doesn't show wall imperfections, but is washable. Todd's painters/stainer show up on time, work neatly, clean-up after themselves, and most importantly do quality work. I'm particular about the details and they never disappoint. Plus, their work is guaranteed, so when I occasionally have spotted something (like a switch plate that hadn't been perfectly drywall repaired, but you couldn't tell until the plate was back on) that needs to be touched up, a painter returns promptly to make it right and at no cost to me. Also, I feel safe leaving them alone in the house, if necessary. The workers are nice, polite guys. If you have a painting, staining or total restoration job, call Todd. He will do more than the name of his company implies. He will advise (and console, when necessary) and help you get the job done well and at a great price.
Description of Work: Our finished basement flooded. The water restoration company that removed the water offered to complete the work necessary to restore the basement. The work required was: installing,staining, and sealing new baseboards in our 1500 sq. foot basement; painting the walls; installing new pad; and restretching and cleaning the carpet. The restoration company gave us an exceedingly high quote to complete this work using subs. I called Todd and he went far above and beyond in helping us. Todd gave me the names of multiple vendors to do the carpet and carpentry work and he gave us a terrific price on painting the walls and staining/sealing the baseboards. Todd even called some of the other vendors to coordinate timely completion of the work. Also, rather than taking advantage of us in getting the work done quickly so the basement could be used, he worked with us on price. While Todd's guys were here, we also had them paint the ceiling, do lots of dry wall patching, solve a bathroom ceiling mold problem, and reseal our front door.

It was difficult to set a date because of all the rain, but Todd did an excellent job of contacting me with updates on the timing. His crew spent an entire week caulking, sanding, and scraping. + -1 moreThis project couldn't have gone better. From the initial estimate to completion of the work, Todd and his crew were fantastic to work with. We just moved into a very large house in Indianapolis and we wanted to have the whole inside of the house painted. From the moment he arrived to give us the estimate, Todd was professional and courteous. Despite the fact that this was a very large job, he looked for ways to keep the price down without cutting corners on the quality of the work. For example, he suggested we let him "touch up" the trim where it needed it rather than repainting all the trim in the entire house like we thought we wanted. Although the touch ups were still quite major, we spent far less going that route than we would have spent if we had had all the trim painted. Todd also provides free color consulting services and we were very happy with the suggestions he gave us. The painters on Todd's crew are, in a word, excellent. I have never hired painters before because I always felt like no one would do as good a job as I could do myself. Todd's crew proved me wrong. Their work was done perfectly about 99% of the time. The 1% of the time when I saw things that I wanted them to fix, they were exceedingly willing/happy to oblige. I never felt like I was being too picky or asking too much because Todd and his painters have standards that are every bit as high as mine. They wanted the job to be perfect as much as I did. We obtained quotes from two other painters on Angie's List before choosing The Painting Edge. Todd's price was just slightly higher (approximately 5%) than the other two quotes we got but we decided to use him based on (i) his excellent reviews on Angie's List and (ii) the good feeling we got when we met him. I can say, without hesitation, that the relatively minimal additional cost of using The Painting Edge was worth every penny. I have already hired Todd to paint the exterior of our house later this summer.
Description of Work: Preparation and painting of the walls in all interior living spaces; performed touch-up work on trim and ceilings as needed. The house is approximately 7200 square feet and we had the walls in every room painted. Todd and his crews were here for 3 1/2 weeks. That's not a reflection of their ability to get a job done in a timely manner but rather, a reflection of the scope of project they undertook for us.

When I called him to come out and look at the house if they needed to painted, he told me he was not going to paint my house because of the rotted siding. He told me that I needed to get it fixed and recommended me to do a concrete siding. After I did the siding, Todd came and painted it all. He did a first quality work.

To my astonishment, the painter ever requested a vacuum so that he could vacuum behind the bed which had to be moved. I felt completely comfortable with leaving them in my home as I ran errands. They remained polite and courteous when I came to see how the new color looked or to see how they were progressing.
Description of Work: Most recently, the company painted and repaired my basement ceiling due to water damage. They also repaired drywall work (that had not been correctly repaired by my usual handyman) in a bedroom and repainted the room and the adjoining powder area in a different color. I have used this company many times for both interior and exterior painting for the last 7 years. Each time, the owner comes by personally to see what needs to be done and sends me an estimate within 24-48 hours.
