The plumber investigated the problem. He pointed out that the disposal was relatively new and that the repairs would probably be covered under warranty. He provided me with the warranty repair company's name so I could contact them to arrange the repair. BEDELL DID NOT CHARGE ME FOR THE SERVICE CALL. How many companies do you know that wouldn't charge to come to your home???? This was only the second time I used their services, but they have a customer for life!

Great, I started seeing water come up the floor drain when ever I would do laundry, I called and they came the same day, The service was great, the plumber (Ernie) was great and did an awesome job, he was even very accepting of our completely harmless pit bull mix and he was not at all intimidated at all. This was a relief as the cable guy who was there at the same time refused to come in and do the job. Made 3 passes through the floor drain to clean it out. We are having them back to replace the old busted drain tiles.

The plumber did great work, and explained the various choices to me thoroughly before he did the work. I appreciated that he was very honest about the minimum I needed to do to fix the problem, along with giving me choices for longer term trouble shooting. He also explained extra information to me, such as explaining the kind of water pressure it is good to have in a house.
Description of Work: The plumber replaced corroded pipes in our basement that supplied water to the washing machine with copper pipe and new faucets.

Noticed that our old sump pump was running continuously after a recent rain. Ernie from Bedell Plumbing found our old pump to be clogged by deposits & residue and replaced it with a new pump which solved the problem. He also fixed a slow leak on our guest room toilet by tightening a packing nut and turned down our water heater to the recommended 120 degrees; I very much appreciated him taking the time to show me how to take care of these problems myself in the future. Have used Bedell Plumbing in the past and have always found them to respond quickly to calls, to be prompt, professional and courteous.

They put a very bad taste in my mouth and I would never call them again.
Description of Work: They tried to exantd a small job into a large remodeling job. They were way too expensive for what I wanted to do. Larry didn't listen to my need, they just told me what they wanted to do - make money. He was intimidating and tried to sell based on that characteristic. They were not professional and were boarderline conartists. He was rude and insulting - he wanted to me to give him a blank check so he could drive around town and find the part I needed so he could make the repair. Instead of doing that I asked him if he could just swap out faucets in the kitchen which he did do. He wouldn't give me a warranty for his work on the faucet becuase I had a Brita water filter attached to it. I'm not sure why this would void any warranty.

The flexible pipe leading from the stationary pipe "feed" of natural gas to our grill was apparently not receiving gas, so our outside grill would not ignite. With some assistance from me, the homeowner, the service man finally zeroed in on the cause of the malfunctioning "feed".
Description of Work: Our outside natural gas grill did not light. They fixed the problem. In addition, we thought we smelled gas from our natural gas burning log in the fireplace. They theoroughly checked the log and satisfied us (and themselves) that there was not a problem.

I misunderstood some of the conversations between the plumber and my husband, and Jay, the owner, actually called to explain everything to me in detail. I was impressed that he took the time to reach out to me to make sure that I was satisfied, and thought that they actually did a good job. As a family business owner, he seems very sincere about making sure his customers are completely happy. He did give us a good discount, and did a partial snaking to ensure that the system was running as well as it could. Although I misunderstood what the technician did, I appreciated that the owner called to straighten everything out. He even offered to refund our money entirely if we were not satisfied, which was not necessary because they resolved everything. We do plan to use them in the future.
Description of Work: They installed our hot water heater in the past, and more recently installed a new flush kit in one of our toilets. We wanted them to snake our entire drain system out, but when they explained in detail about the drain system, we realized that was not necessary. They did tell us that the toilets themselves were causing our problems because of calcium build-up, and recommended that we replace them, whether we go through them or not. We are now still having problems with our toilets flushing properly and are looking into getting some new ones and purchasing them ourselves to save some money--the owner said he would be willing to install the new toilets and dispose of the old ones at a very reasonable price if we do buy them ourselves.

I woke up around 4am on 1/28/09 and had no water. I called Bedell plumbing at that time because they had 24 hr telephone answering service listed in their ad. I expected to get an answering service but the owner, Jay Bedell, answered the phone. I told him that I had no water and his first question was "Do you have a water softener?". I replied that I did and he then asked if it was located in the garage and if the garage door had been left open. My water softener is located in the garage and I found that I had left the garage door open since 12pm the prior day! The temperature at the time was 20 degrees. Jay told me to close the garage door and get as much heat in the garage as I could and he would have a service truck out to my home when they came in at 7am. I put a small heater in front of the water softener and turned it on. Within 20 minutes I heard water rumbling in the pipes and checked my water faucets. Water was running through the pipes once again. I called Mr. Bedell back and told him that water was running in the pipes. He was very friendly and polite even though I had just called twice in the very early morning hours.
Description of Work: I received free information over the phone which saved me a lot of money and grief.

Overall? Horrible. The plumber was very unprofessional. As soon as he entered the home and saw the sump pump was swirling, he said he knew what the problem was and would have to cut open the finished dry wall ceiling from the back of the house all the way to the front of the house and would have to install a new pvc discharge line because the existing line was blocked?.. When I called my builder friend, he said the plumber was wrong and the ceiling did not have to be gutted. After the plumber ?thought? about it a few minutes, he said he knew exactly where the frozen section was and instantly went outside and cut the frozen section off at the wall. He was ready to gut the ceiling when the problem was in the wall... The plumber cut the exterior pvc line flush with the house then because of the faulty torch, he drilled a hole into the ice and cut a hole in the bottom of the pvc pipe while clearing the ice as shown in the attached photos. The photos also clearly show the pvc breach extends to the interior wall board and the opposite side of the wall is the exterior opening that is cut flush with the exterior wall. In other words, mere inches. At the angle the hole was made, the drill had to be angled meaning the exterior opening could not be far. The hole could be seen and felt from the outside but the plumber didn?t reveal this and it resulted in a wet basement. After the plumber gave up trying to do a new interior discharge line, he then wanted to drill a hole into the cement foundation to install a new exterior discharge line! Again we declined the unnecessary and expensive work. He was remarkable in that he was constantly looking to ?upgrade? and his boss must love his upselling becasue some people must believe his schtik. The plumber also insisted that the new discharge line be vented so as not to create a lock. This vent resulted in water gushing out of the vent hole around the foundation and having to be capped. I can?t say how much experience he has as a plumber. The man seemed more intent on selling unnecessary work than doing what actually needed done. The pipe did not burst when it froze initially and did not refreeze & burst as Bedell attests. The hole in the PVC was wholly their fault. When the ice was first cleared, the sump did drain the pit but there wasn't much water and certainly not hundreds of gallon as Bedell states. More like 5-gallons because when the sump was restarted after clearing the ice it only ran a few seconds and scarcely ran until the thaw a week later. Because there was little water because of the freeze, there was little water being cleared by the sump therefore no water detected in the basement for a week. After a week, when it thawed is when the water problem developed inside the house because of the hole Bedell put in the discharge line. Bedell is lying saying that the line refroze and that it burst a week later.
Description of Work: Job was to clear a frozen sump pump discharge line that was frozen where the line left the home from the wall. The plumber cut the line then tried to thaw the ice but couldn't keep the burner lit. The plumber then used a drill to remove the ice and drilled a hole into the pvc pipe that was inside the wall. When the plumber left, the sump pump was working. But as we found later, the hole the plumber made in the pipe was leaking inside the house. The plumber failed to mention he made a hole resulting in a wet basement. The manager blamed us becasue we didn't allow the plumber to cut open the ceiling (even though problem was in the wall)

Response from Bedell Home Services
Bedell plumbing did not cause this pipe to freeze and burst. ON January 15th 2009 we drilled into the ice at the outside of the home, the pump emptied hundreds of gallons of water through the pipe and no water was found on the floors or the walls of the home. Another basement saved from flooding! Our professional opinion was to have the system repiped in a way that the pipe wouldn't freeze again, however, this member paid for the work completed and chose to have him and his builder friend make the additional repairs to the system. After they made the repairs to the system, water came gushing out around the foundation and the pipe had to be capped. The line refroze and burst as shown in the photo above. When the pipe started leaking into his home nine days after our service call he called Bedell Plumbing and insisted we make all the repairs for free.

After taking a shower one evening, the hot water would not shut off (even when the faucet was in the off position). My husband called and spoke to someone at Bedell, and they told him what to do until they could arrive in the morning. They also said the fix could cost as low as $175 but maybe more depending on the problem. Bedell sent Ernie out to our house before 9am the next morning, and he fixed the problem within 20 minutes. Ernie was pleasant and quick.

Hot water heater stopped working one evening (temp outside in single digits). Called two companies the next morning at 7:15 am to get repair service started. Bedell answered phone (note: the other plumbing company returned call about 9am when Bedell was already on their way). Talked to Jay about problem, estimated repair cost, how long repair would last, age of water heater, etc. Decided to replace, he gave quote over phone for good quality unit with longer warranty. Two servicemen arrived by 9:30 am and we had a new hot water installed before noon.
Description of Work: Replaced 80 gal hot water heater. Plumbers were polite, answered all questions, laid down tarps from front door to basement work area, cleaned up after themselves, got the job done.

I called Bedell about 9:30 am (I had turned my house water off). Due to the level of request, they couldn't come until 1:30 pm. They surveyed the situation, said it would cost about $650. They called in their specialty man. He said he thought he could fix it for less though it would be tricky. Work was completed by 3:00 pm. Larry did the work.

They were great. I first called another company that I had used before, but Bedell's prices were much lower for the same garbage disposal. They were very efficient and easy to schedule with. They were very straightforward and did not seem to be selling me anything. I had used them before to re-run my plumbing from my washer to get it up to code and they did some other major plumbing work at that time. I continue to be very happy with them.

I would recommend Bedell Plumbing highly. Jay, the owner is very helpful & kind & extremely understanding. I had an 8am appointment on Friday 1/2/09; however an unexpected event came up & I was NOT going to be able to be at home by 8am; I called Jay at 7:30am & explained the situation; he said NO problem, call him back when I got home. I called back at 8:40 am, he said he would send someone out as soon as possible. Jay called back at 9:34 am & said that a plummer was on their way. I was NOT charged a fee for having to re-schedule. Jay was very, very understanding & very helpful. I would use Bedell Plumbing again. Just a note-I was not informed on my initial contact with Jay as to the price of the service call. Just be sure to ask for a "price quote or service call rate" before scheduling; I was a little shocked at the price......but that was my fault for NOT asking when I initially made the call.
Description of Work: Ernie, the plumber was able to immediately diagnosis the problem in my attic of the leak I was having. A PC-pipe had become dislodged from it's seal & was causing water to get onto the drywall in the attic & leak on the ceiling of my bathroom. He sealed it back in place. He as very knowledgeable & efficient.

I had a flood in my basement due to sump pump not working. I originally called my warranty company on Christmas Eve and they were sending another company. The original Romany stated they could not come until the following Monday. I stated was an emergency but they did not respond. On Sunday my basement flooded just like I had told them. I was authorized by Warranty company to call outside the network so I immediately went to Angie's List and called the first 5 companies on the list and Bedell responded immediately! I am so pleased with the employee and his professionalism. He was here within 1.5 hours, replaced the old sump pump with a brand new one. Did not mind me watching him install (as other professionals do not like this) and even explained the process he was doing. The price was a bit steep for me, but I realize it was a holiday week.
