I contacted Bedell Plumbing on Monday late afternoon about a pump in the basement that did not appear to be working. They talked me through what to do immediately to prevent flooding and then set up an appointment for the next morning. He was punctual and did a great job. Price was just what they quoted. They will be my plumbers from now on!replaced

Fantastic- they are the only plumber I call.
Description of Work: The day we were to leave for vacation, I went to our basement to get the laundry to pack and noticed there was water everywhere. I called Bedell- they were out in a couple of hours. They were great, told me not to worry, they will get it taken care of. I had to go back to work so they told me to leave a key and they would lock up when they were finished. Got home to check the work out before I left for vacation, the work was done perfectly, no water on the floor and hot water and good water pressure. I will use Bedell for life.

Amazing! We found this company on Angie's List and are so excited to finally have a plumbing service we really like. The owner, Jay, was great to work with. We would definitely call them again!! If you are looking for an honest plumbing company, this one is for you.

Yes we know Bedell is highly rated on Angie’s List. That’s why we selected them. We ALWAYS review Angie’s List before selecting a service provider. However, we did not have a good experience using Bedell. We spent $2,042 for Bedell to replace our 80 gallon water heater and install a water pressure relief valve. Because of previous water heater problems, we purchased an upgraded water heater that had an extended warranty. Within two months, we started having small puddles of water at the foot of the heater. These puddles would show up and then dry up. We had similar problems with previous water heaters which ended up failing, so I started calling Bedell to let them know. Bedell did come to our house at no charge on a couple of occasions to check the problem, as any customer oriented company would/should for a new heater installation. The puddles were not present when they showed up, but we did have pictures to show them. They tried a couple of things, but the puddles continued, and I continued to call Bedell over the next several months, making sure I was on record of seeing these leaks. During these calls, Jay Bedell got increasingly more condescending and accusatory in his tone and explanations…basically saying we didn’t have a problem, and we felt like he was questioning our integrity. Jay said we “claimed” there was puddled water under the water heater. Fifteen months after the new heater was installed, we had water pouring out the side of the heater. Of course, it happened on the weekend, and when we called Bedell, he was unwilling to send us a plumber on a weekend (because he didn’t want to “trash his plumber for the next day”) unless we paid them their off-hours fee. When we complained, Jay was interruptive, showed a lack of good customer service and started talking about the times they came out to check the heater without charging us. What he didn’t mention was that when they initially installed the heater, they damaged our wall, and we had it fixed without a charge to us (because of our excellent relationship with our Angie’s List painter) so Bedell got off without spending a dime to fix our wall. We were unwilling to pay his fee; he didn’t come, so we went without hot water for the rest of the weekend. The heater was bad, so Bedell did replace the heater and water pressure value under the warranty. We were concerned though that he wanted to charge us labor for a heater that we started having problems with within two months. We didn’t push this too much though when Bedell said “he would work with us” on the labor. Then we got the bill, $425 labor to install the new heater. At one point, Bedell said to us “that every once in a while you get a lemon”. Bedell sold us a “lemon”, we pay extra, $2,042 for an upgraded heater and fifteen months later Bedell wants us to pay another $425 to replace it. Our tuff luck I guess, but I can’t imagine anyone would be happy with that. We sent Bedell $150, which we didn’t feel like paying in the first place, and told him we were paid in full. It doesn’t end there though. Six weeks after the replacement heater was installed, we had a heating element fail because, as we found out from another Angie’s List plumber, Bedell did not install the heater correctly. We also found out from the plumber that the water pressure valve Bedell installed was set with over 80 pounds of pressure. Pressure this high will dramatically shorten the life of a water heater. Now I wonder if that’s why the first heater Bedell installed failed after only 15 months. We did call Jay Bedell to tell him that the heating element was bad. We called more out of curiosity to see how he would handle the situation (based on previous calls with him) than expecting him to try to make it right. Pretty much as expected, he said he wasn’t going to work with us and hung up on us. Furthermore, when we talked to Rheem, the water heater manufacturer, they told us that Bedell improperly handled the replacement and had technically voided our warranty. We also found out from a third Angie’s List plumber that they would have charged us $275 to install the replacement heater. So much for Bedell “working with us” on the $425 labor cost. Bottom line --- if your plumbing work is issue free, you will likely not have to have interactions with Jay Bedell and will, in turn, not have to be treated the way we were, repeatedly. Additionally, if you do have any issues, we have found Bedell’s customer service to sub-par at best. Certainly now, we also question the competence of the plumbers they employ.
Description of Work: We have been Angie’s List members for over ten years. We have written many many more good than critical reviews. In fact, at one point, we won a prize for writing the most reviews. There was also a critical review that we did not post when the provider “made it right” in our minds. Our experience with Bedell Plumbing deserves a critical review.

RESPONSE ; Two sides to every story ... we replaced the water heater under rheems and our warranty, the system that failed in this case was not under warranty so we charged $ 425.00 for parts a preassure regulator system that had been tested both trips to make sure it still worked... We got a check for $ 150. and a f rating for our trouble....All work perfomed at this home is covered still by rheem and we have done all work free of charge for everthing still under warranty..... thanks for our review....Jay T. I had a slow leak under my kitchen sink. They came and quickly determined the source as mainly the sprayer hose and also faucet corrosion. The plumber showed me the problem and recommended replacing the faucet/sprayer unit, which I agreed to. He showed me what he had on hand as a replacement (a good quality Delta), which I liked. Because he didn't have the unit with the sprayer on hand, he went and picked it up, was back promptly and installed it. Came on time, worked efficiently, and was very professional.

Called them to schedule switching my filtered water line from main faucet to designated faucet. They told me what kind of faucet to purchase, or offered to provide one. I purchased my own, but they also brought one (just in case). They were prompt, courteous, professional, knowledgeable. They recommended a reverse osmosis system over and above the basic filtration system I currently had, and I decided to upgrade to the new system. Everything went great. They installed the new system, installed the new faucet, tested the system, etc. I have used Bedell at least a half-dozen times for a wide-range of plumbing needs, and I am always equally pleased. If I do get estimates on a job, they always meet or beat the competitors' price, and I always go with them because of their professionalism. It's always right, or they come back and make it right.

I called Bedell the day before at 4:45 p.m. Due to the lateness in the day, the person taking my phone call couldn't schedule me for a specific time the next day. Totally understandable because I had called so late and wanted to have the service performed the next day. However, he took down all my contact information and assured me that they could work me into their schedule. We agreed on a price of $150 per toilet installation, a price that was reasonable if you check quote/estimators online. On the day of service, someone from Bedelll called me at 11 a.m. to let me know they had not had a gap in their schedule yet, but would get around to me later in the afternoon. Sure enough, two hours later, one of their plumbers called to tell me he was on the way. When he arrived, he got quickly to work and was highly professional. About an hour into the job, the doorbell rang and two other plumbers from Bedell arrived to assist him. They helped haul out the removed toilets and helped him calk around the base of the new toilets. No extra charge for the extra help. This was really above and beyond the call of duty, but I appreciated it. Good teamwork on their part. All in all, it took about an hour and a half to do the job. The new toilets have worked flawlessly. I would definitely use Bedell for other plumbing jobs. They were reasonably priced, communicated well with me, performed their jobs, and showed great teamwork. This is a quality company.

They came out and replaced the piping. I realized that they put the PVC pipe lower than what the cast iron pipe was before. I called and told them and they said that they would be back to fix it. They suggested that I lower the ceiling throughout the entire room. I spoke with the manager or owner and said that I signed off on the job. The gentleman came out and tried to tell me why it was not their fault. The boss was supposed to call me back but has let to do that.

Member, Our tech installed your new pipes in the same location as you old ones. The problem is to get the same thickness as your old plaster ceiling your going to need to shim your ceiling beams to match your old ceiling....You can not nail your drywall to your beams . The thickness of your old plaster was much greater than your dry wall....Thanks Jay...

We discovered a leak in our master shower on Saturday, called Bedell on Sunday and they were at our home first thing Monday morning, 8:00 a.m. They went from, "I've never seen that before" to "fixed" in less than 2 hours. Eric and Jay were awesome and we were very happy with the results.
Description of Work: When running master shower it was somehow leaking outside and down the side of the house. We discovered it because we saw large gushes of water running down he outside window. Bedell had to cut a small hole into the wall to try and find the leak, then discovered it was a bad caulking job. They patched the hole in the wall with a plate and caulked the leaky area.

Ten plus years of problems with numerous and worsening backups (due to a faulty original (1968) installation which included a 14 inch trap!) finally culminated in the diagnosis that the clay sewer line was badly separated and needed to be replaced. IThe clay line had been run in a giant curve from the front of the house under landscaping, sidewalk and the driveway to connect with the main line on the side of the house (120 feet); instead of using a main line in the cross street striaght downhill (only 40 feet). Bedell did the necessary design, and legwork with the city to allow us to use the shorter stretch and not tear up 3/4 of the yard. They also were able to start right away. The $15000 might seem high but they were digging 12 feet down since the line ran under the basement , and also required a street cut to connect the new line with all the applicable permits & fees. They came and did camera work several times both before & after the work to verify both the house and the city sewer configurations. No issues whatsoever in the 4 1/2 months since completion, very satisified!

My previous water softener blew out while I was away, flooding my home and causing somewhere in the neighborhood of $12,000 worth of damage. Most was covered by insurance, but the plumbing repairs were not. I contacted Bedell around noon on the day of installation, and a plumber was on site by 2:30 PM. I was shocked at how quickly they responded. The plumber and his assistant were polite, informative, and answered all my questions - completing the job in just under 3.5 hours. There was a little bit of sticker shock, but I can't complain too much for getting both major parts of my water system replaced. I was initially concerned that there was going to be some upselling for a pressure regulating system, but after testing a neighbor's pressure, the plumber said that, while it wouldn't hurt, it wasn't exactly necessary either. I appreciated the honesty. I also learned a few things about my water system, and got the system simplified, as with a functioning softener of high quality (they install what appear to be high quality systems), the filter system installed by the previous owner wasn't necessary. In all, I was incredibly pleased with the speed of the job and the competence of the plumber.
Description of Work: Replacement of damaged water softener, aging water heater, as well as removal of unnecessary filter system from previous owner. Also installed new more effective ball valves for main shutoff and shutoff to water heater.

I have used them once before. I found them on Angie's List. The guy was very efficient. He made a small little hole in the wall. He reamed out the pipe under the dining room. He then put a very nice patch on the hole. I can paint over it to match my paint. He did a great job at that. They charged a very good price. They were very quick and responsive. They were punctual and professional.
Description of Work: I have used Bedell Plumbing Inc. I had a clogged drain between my kitchen and the exterior of my house. My house is on a slap, so there was no way to get to the pipe from under my house. They had to come on a Sunday. They immediately tried to ream out the drain from the kitchen sink. They had to come back on Monday and make a hole in my dining room wall. I didn't want to do that, but there was no other way.

Bedell Plumbing was contracted through my insurance company to excavate and replace the original cast iron sewer line through the entire front yard of my 1920's home with PVC pipe. They did their job, and left my front yard an excavated mess. They made no effort to even push the dirt back into its original place, let alone smooth it out in the least bit. I was left with a three-foot tall ridge of dirt running the entire length of my yard, that you could not even walk over, complete with huge chunks of rock and cast iron pipe. I had to complain repeatedly to my insurance company to get something done (some excess dirt was finally hauled away 6 months later) although it was never graded or re-seeded with grass seed (I was left to do this on my own).

I was told that the job would be between $2000 and $3000. They arrived with a backhoe, but didn't need to use it. I had agreed to the price verbally, but imagined that the work would be much more involved. When they finished, he told me it would cost $2,250. When I complained about the price, he lowered it to $2000. He explained that they give a locked bid and would not have charged me over $3000 if the work had been very extensive. They were prepared to have to do more work, but the job was fairly easy. They were punctual and professional and cleaned up well. I just felt extremely ripped off paying $2000 for 4 man hours and a piece of pipe that couldn't have cost over $30. They also used their camera which I know they charge for. In my estimation, Bedell Plumbing hit the lottery with my hard earned money today. A fair price would be what they charge for 4 plumber's hours plus the cost of the pipe, plus the cost of using the camera. That sounds more like $500 to me.
Description of Work: Two men spent between 2 and 2 1/3 hours working on my broken sewer line, which was below my deck. They arrived somewhere between 9:35 and 9:55 and left at 11:55. They removed four boards from the deck, then dug down to where the pipe was broken. They removed about a foot of my cast iron pipe and replaced it with p.v.c. They used their camera to make sure there were no other breaks in the line and replaced the dirt.

We give bids so all know what it will cost before we do the work...In this case the bid was sent by e-mail and again before work started...We hand dug then repaired the main drain to the house, Then we ran a camera into the drain to make sure the remaining pipe was in good condition. we saved the wood deck by hand digging, our back hoe would have not been able to dig as well....THE BID WAS $ 3000.00 , WE BILLED $ 2250..
