The cost of a sump pump replacement is too expensive. I removed the pump myself and asked owner if he could give me a break on the price because I removed the sump (saved his guy time). He said "no" the price is $484. I said this is very expensive for a sump pump replacement, I asked him what the cost of the pump was? He said and I quote " I don't know, I buy them in bulk and don't know the individual cost". I was shocked that a smaal business owner would say this to a customer. He either does not know his cost or his profit is so high that he doesn;t need to know. At this point I knew this guy was clueless to his business and what customer service is, it was pointless to discuss this any more. I told him that I would never use his service again and I will tell my friends the same. He said "Thank you" For everyone who uses Bedell, here is my estimate of the cost breakdown of a sump pump change List price for sump pump change $484 Zoeller 1/3 HP cast iron sump pump $140 (from internet) Check valve $ 10-$ 20 (from Lowes website) Labor 1 hour @ $50/hr $ 50 (generous estimate of hourly and benefits) Overhead $ 94 (assume overhead is 40% of the total labor and material cost) Profit $180 I don't mind people making a profit but $180 (low side estimate) for 1 hour of work is excessive especially when I did half the work for them.

WOW, FIRST A QUOTE WAS GIVEN AND ACCEPTED $ 484 .00 then we went to pump out the crawl space at the members request ...Upon arrival we found a flooded crawl space and we were told by member that to save money he would pump out crawl space so we could reach pump to replace. A trip at NO CHARGE was made at that time and member said he would call when crawl space was empty....He called a few hours later and said his pump out of the crawl space was complete and we could come over to install our pump and check valve in the crawl space...Our tech Tom arrived and found it ready to install, Tom was then asked to lower price of pump install $ 35.00 Tom Told member he can ask if he could do that and contacted our shop, I told Tom that it had already been bid and agreed before we went out the first time that it was to cost $484.00 total...with no charge for our first trip....Member was not happy with his agreed price...So he called our shop and asked to speak to me, Jay Bedell and then told me that we needed to lower our price $ 35.00 or he would tell everyone he could that we are a bad company to work with and he would not use us again....I told his that our price stands at $ 484.00 and Tom could go forward with the install if he wanted or leave with no cost to member for now two trips out to his home...After completion of work member got a $ 20.00 off coupon out and we accepted it for a total cost of $ 464.00 ....This behavior seems to be more main stream and not needed to negotiate pricing again after it was already agreed....We at Bedell Plumbing inc., enjoy working with people and helping with their problems, but its members like this example that make it bad for all of us that have good ratings with Angies list...We would like a list of members that do this often to get a deal so we can avoid these bogus F ratings

I couldn't be happier with the work performed. We called on an emergency basis when I discovered on the morning after the big storms on 31 October that our sump pumps had inexplicably failed and flooded our basement a bit. Since Langenwalter was at our house all day on 1 November drying things out, we went with an appointment with Bedell for 2 November. Pat arrived at the appointed hour, was very professional, and took the time to show me with pride the excellent work he had done. Bedell gets an A+ with me, and we will happily call on them again for future plumbing needs.

It went well. I called them in the morning and they arrived by mid-afternoon with the tank on the truck. The plumber (Tom?) was very professional, was careful not to track in dirt, laid down drop cloths throughout the house to protect the floors, and had the new tank installed very quickly. They were anywhere from $150-300 cheaper than some of the other places I called.

See above. Travis failed to unclog the sink and charged me anyway. Made a mess. Moved my pedestal sink across vintage (old) tile without checking with me. Did not get the sink back into position leaving me to move it back into the spot and clean up the floor around it. I had to clean up the floor and the bottom of the pedestal as it had oil and grease and dirt from where he had moved it. Left me with a leak at the pipe joint too. To his credit he ran the water to see if it leaked after he put it back together - but he didn't wait long enough. I should have stopped him the moment he walked in the door with the big auger. He didn't even try to go in from the top with a simple snake. Brought the big auger in and took everything apart. He had to call his boss a couple of times to check to see what to do next. Inexperienced. He wanted to come back and cut a hole in my wall. I said "NO THANKS!" I definitely would not use this company again. This was my first and last time. They are a liability. They left me worse off than I was.
Description of Work: He was supposed to just unclog a stopped up bathroom sink. But made a mess, left me with a leaky gasket and failed to fix the clog in my bathroom sink. Brought in the heavy duty equipment (overkill!) before even assessing the situation or trying anything simpler. Disassembled the piping on the pedestal sink and moved the sink across vintage tile without checking with me. He had to call and check with his boss a couple of times to see what to do next. I got the impression he is fairly inexperienced. Pleasant enough person - just lacking knowledge and experience in my opinion.

Response from Bedell Home Services
On November 4th, we sent a licensed and very experienced technician to this member's home to discover what sort of drain problem she was having. In just running a cable through the drain (for the agreed upon $105), we discovered that the drain was too far gone to get a cable completely through, having been installed in 1928 and currently heavily corroded on the inside. After discovering this, we provided a bid of $350 to replace the piping in the wall and resolve the issue. The original $105 was to be applied to this amount, for a final additional cost of $245 over what was quoted originally. The member declined to do the additional work, so our technician cleaned up and reinstalled the sink. Before leaving, our technician checked for leaks and damage to the surrounding area and found none. Our company was not contacted by this member with their concerns, so we were unable to address any potential issues with our work. Please note: It is standard procedure to dissassemble the drainage below a sink to run a cable through it. Small, hand-powered snakes that can fit down the drain from above aren't strong enough to clear most clogs and risk making the problem worse. Thank you, Jay Bedell

Jay Jr. did an AMAZING job. He was very detail-oriented and explained everything he was doing perfectly. He arrived when he said he would and took good care as far as making any messes. He was extremely professional and we will definitely use this company in the future.
Description of Work: We had a sewer smell off and on in our kitchen, bathroom and laundry room off the kitchen. Jay Jr. came out and went in our crawl space to see if there were any leaks and determined that our toilet had a leak and that the flange needed to be replaced and the toilet reset. I decided I wanted a new toilet so he went and got the exact toilet I wanted and installed it.

The damaged pipe was about 6 feet deep. He dug about 10 feet of damaged or incorrectly installed sewer lines and replaced it. Jason and a couple of guys wrapped it up within 2-3 hours and we can now 'flush'. ;-) Thanks Jason and Bedell Plumbing.
Description of Work: From another company I was told the only solution to my backed up sewer problem was to install an outside cleanout but their price was very high. Jason gave me a much more reasonable estimate. He had an opportunity to do the job within 24 hours and he put the cleanout in and fixed the damaged line for a bit less than the first contractor.

!Overall, our plumber Eric and his apprentice were hard and efficient plumbers. When I called, I informed them we were new homeowners who were interested in having our plumbing checked out, and I explained that when our dishwasher was running it created loud banging noises in the pipes. Eric explained that our pipes in the crawl needed to be secure, and that Carmel has water pressure issues (too much pressure). He sold us a water pressure system, but we still get the knocking noises when certain water areas are first run! I called them back several weeks later to inform them of the problem, and they promptly sent a new technician out. He had me run the faucet in the kitchen and twice it did knock. He went into the crawl to check pipes and did not find any unstrapped pipes. Thing is, he heard the knocking as well, but told me it could just be coincidence. He stayed for approx 30 min and had me start and restart the sink in kitchen, but no knocking sounds returned. End result is, we still have occasional knocking sounds when water runs!

I got up to get ready to go to work and found a puddle of water on the kitchen floor in front of the sink. I opened the cabinet doors and saw that water had evidently been leaking from the bottom of the garbage disposal for several days. Hurriedly got on Angie's List to look for a plumber on the north side, and at 7 am called Bedell after reading their good reviews. They had a plumber there by 8:15 who was very polite and professional. He figured out that when a different plumber (provided by Just for Granite) had installed our new sink a couple of years ago, when we had granite tops installed, the deeper sink had made the drain from the disposal slope slightly upward rather than downward and so some water was unable to completely drain away, and had since remained in the bottom of the disposal for a long time, accelerating its rusting out and also probably causing the occasional clogs we had experienced. Not only did Bedell's plumber have two models of new disposals on his truck to choose from, he also re-routed the drain pipe configuration so now we have a correct, downward sloping path for the disposal to flush down. I was able to get to work by 9:15(just left him there to do the job) and he called me when he was finished (they allow cr card payments over the phone). Not only do we have an amazingly quiet new disposal, we now feel more confident about using it without expecting it to cause the drain to clog so easily.
Description of Work: Replaced leaking, rusted out garbage disposal and re-arranged drain pipes under the sink to correct the slope.

All was well as far as the leak in the pipe was concerned because I was quoted on the phone that it would probably be $125 to $150 to fix the leak in the pipe. I wasn't sure whether to believe the Tech, when he said the brand new garbage disposal we had installed our self 2 months ago couldn't be fixed with with out replacing it to stop the leak around the sleeve connection to the sink, but I went ahead and allow him to replace it which cost me and extra $225 which I did not plan on spending. Luckily, I was able to get a refund for the new disposal when I returned it to the store and recouped some of my money. Overall they did a great job and was very professional. A bit pricey though.

I discovered on Thursday that my water softener was filling up with water and not draining. I bailed it out into the basement sump and found out that the sump pump wasn't working either. I then tried to find a plumber who could handle both items. Bedell plumbing answered that they couldn't service the water softener but referred me to a company that could. Bedell then came on Friday and took care of the sump pump. I was anxious to get this done since rain was forecast over the weekend and I didn't want the basement to flood.

As a result of a home inspection while in the process of selling our home, the inspector found that our toilet in our half bath was able to move. I called Bedell plumbing from a search on Angie's list. Travis showed up on time and found that the existing toliet flange was broken on one side. the failed conduit in question was buried approx. 2' down between the two structures, and was covered by a cracked and also failing concrete slab. rainwater and groundwater were traveling under and into the conduit, dumping water and mud into the downstairs of our bermed home. we knew that at best, perhaps the conduit might be repaired....at worst, replaced. we asked for estimates from several plumbing contractors for this job. the others didn't even come close to providing solutions, let alone an estimate. bedell was the only company that did not seem intimidated by the uniqueness of the job. they were willing to tackle it and had several options of how it could be handled to meet our budget requirements. i was very impressed with our initial contact and very happy with and secure in our choice to go with bedell. because it was later determined that we would have to dig up the conduit and replace the piping that ran through it, the job also required a concrete contractor to remove the old slab, then return and pour a new slab after the plumbing phase was finished. the excavation of the pipe was the only overlapping phase of the project that could have been done by either contractor. in trying to assess which way would be most efficient , as well as cost effective, we asked bedell for a breakdown of that part of the estimate, as we had from the concrete contractor. we never received one. also, there was a marked change in attitude on bedell's part. they seemed annoyed with these variables and inflexible. the original quote was broken down into 2 parts: the lines that were to run through the conduit, priced at $1000 (we felt this was reasonable and well worth it); and excavating and replacing the conduit itself, priced at $3500. when i asked for a break down of the $3500 figure, the gentleman on the phone told me he could take off $500 if we had the concrete contractor do the additional excavating. no further breakdown was given. i felt $3000 was too much to cut an already exposed conduit, remove it, and replace it with a smaller diameter conduit that sleeved into the ends of the original (piping that i learned was valued at about $10/ every 10' at the local home improvement stores. so, about $20 total.), and some hydraulic cement to seal the ends. when i baulked at the price, they cut it in half to $1500. i still believe that is way over-priced for what was done. but, my husband has a bad back, and the $1500 was worth the price to me to avoid him back pain and the cost of chiropractic visits for the next month. so in summary, my overall review of bedell is mixed. i feel they were skilled and knowledgable. they did what others wouldn't. but, the interaction with them was not always pleasant, especially in negotiating differing phases of the project. in terms of pricing....some aspects seemed more than reasonable, others over-priced. a more detailed, broken-down quote would have been appreciated, too. in their favor, the price they give is set from the beginning. no unexpected hourly fees inflating the quote because the job took longer than anticipated. that's a big plus. so if you're not looking to have your hand held, are an informed consumer, and willing to pay the price they quote, i would say go for it. yes, i would hire them again and would recommend them to others with those caveats in mind.
Description of Work: as listed in the quote: replace utility conduit from gagare to house. replace supply and return lines with 1' pex piping. replace water lines to and from water heater with 3/4' pex piping. replace electrical conduit re-using existing wire. insulate new lines.

Bedell Plumbing was very courteous on the phone and went out of there way to get their man to my house A.SA..P. I was extremely surprised when I found that their quote for the job was just $125.00 as the next best wast $180.00 up to $209.00..What really frosted me about some of Bedells competitors was the fact that they had no set price for something as simple as changing out a wax seal on a toilet. They wanted to send a plumber with a trip fee and then have him price the job once he was at my residence.. rt that knowlledgeI was pleased when their plumber, Tom, arrived. He assessed the situation, went right to work correcting the leak, and made suggestions to my wife and me about not using a plunger as it tears up the wax rings but to go the hardware and purchase a closet auger. I was impressed that he would impart that tidbit rather than letting us do things that would cause the seal to wear more rapidly and have another plumber out sooner. Bedell is on my A++++++ list!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Called Jay on Sunday night to let him know I needed a spigot replaced and the floor drain cleaned- the plumber pulled tree roots out and Jay let me know the drain was needing to be replaced. He was going to put a "911" out to his excavation team to get a date of service from them. I certainly hope they are available soon because I don't want to find another plumber as I trust them in my home if I am there or not. they are that type of company- about a year ago, when we were leaving for vacation our water heater busted and they were out that day to fix it. Did a great job so I am sure all other jobs will be of the same quality The job was completed in 2 days- everything was hooked up and running great. We thought at one point we were going to have to get into the street, but the excavator was able to connect to clean pipe with out doing so. In all it was 7935...$435 for the original drain cleaning and $7500 for the excavation in and out of the house. While the job was expensive and a headache to deal with, they made it as easy as possible and kept me informed the entire way through.
Description of Work: After they snaked out the drain, they informed me they needed to excavate my front yard due to roots growing in the clay drain tiles, they got the yard excavated and then noticed they had to go in the house to properly replace the pipe. They had to jackhammer about 40 ft and lay new line in and out of the house. The person doing the excavation was knowledgeable presented solutions with out going into the street. We are very happy we no longer have back ups in our basement. They filled in the holes and re-cemented the trench in the basement.

I called on Friday to order a new water line installed in my kitchen before my new fridge came on Saturday. A plumber came and installed the water line very promptly. However, when my fridge was delivered the next day, the installer told me the water line was incomplete. When I called Bedell to ask why they left the water line unfinished, they said it couldn't be finished without the refrigerator. They proceeded to tell me I should have told them that the refrigerator wasn't here yet, which I mentioned in my initial request for service. They said I would be charged another $105 for a plumber to return plus hardware expenses for a job they didn't even finish! I am very displeased with the service provided, and their refusal to fix their mistake.
