Our well stopped delivering water on Christmas morning. I phoned C&J Drilling the next afternoon (George was extremely courteous) and they sent a repair crew in the snow the next morning, phoning us twice to update us on their arrival time. They did an electrical test that pointed to the pump as the culprit, then removed the pump, tested it again and determined that the pump was functioning normally. They told me the pump was of good quality and only three years old (we purchased the home last year and did not know the well's history). The problem was a short in a wire leading down to the pump. So instead of replacing the pump, they replaced the wiring. The two workmen, Gary and Ryan, were extremely professional and also very friendly and eager to explain every step in the process. They even invited me to watch the whole process from beginning to end and they answered every question that I had. Ryan even made a tiny snowman in our front yard before he left. We were extremely pleased with the individuals and the work.
Description of Work: Removed our well pump, tested it, replaced piping from the pump and replaced defective wiring to the pump.

They showed up on time, did a thorough review of the situation, provided me with several alternate actions, depending what they found as they removed the well pump, and a couple of cost options for the pump it's self. They were very careful and did an excellent job, and kept the cost down where possible. I would highly recommend them.

After having a positive total coliform result from a water sample, I disinfected the well twice. When another sample was submitted and still had a positive result, I contacted C&J about what my options were. They advised they could come out and go through the disinfection procedure for $550. I asked about other options since I didn't want to go through the same process and not guarantee it was going to fix the problem. Also, disinfecting isn't a permanent solution and I would always wonder when my water could be an issue again. They advised to talk to the water treatment side about having a uv light installed. After talking with them, I felt it was the best solution for the situation (bacteria free water for 365 days then a light bulb change for another years piece of mind). A water sample was submitted once the uv was installed. It was negative! They were very flexible with my time crunch and appreciate all of their help in getting this issue resolved.
Description of Work: Was in need of a uv light filtration system after having several positive total coliform tests.

They were very upfront about the costs and told me throughout the process what each cost would be
Description of Work: I needed my well located and cleaned out. They arrived on Wednesday and no problem locating the well. They dug it up but were unable to pull out the pump due to mineralization of the casing. They offereed two solutions and I chose to add acid to the well to see if it would clean it out enough to get the pump out. They left the acid in overnight and arrived the next morning to finish the job. I ended up buying a new pump and pressure tank, plus the services of locating, cleaning, and digging up the well.

At 10 am we had water dribbling out of our faucets. By noon we had a level of water pressure we hadn't seen for years! And after the new well pump was installed and Gary noticed the hot water pressure was not flowing as fully as the cold water, he checked out the hot water heater and noticed the outflow was not fully opened - for all we know, that valve had only been partially opened since we moved in!.
Description of Work: Our water pressure took a significant dive on Saturday morning. We called C&J on Monday morning and had someone at our house by 10 am. Gary explained everything that he was checking. The well pump had to be replaced (it was about 16 years old). It took about two hours to diagnose the problem and replace the pump. Gary was so helpful, he even changed two sediment filters that we couldn't get to because the threads for the casings were stripped..

The guys arrived on time and were very personable. Provided a contract and were able to answer all of my questions and concerns satisfactorily. The work went as they described and explained the process as it progressed. They threw in the chlorination for $50 and instructed me on how to complete the process to save my mother the expense of the full service. Her being on a fixed income made that a very much appreciated offer. All in all, we were very happy with their service.

The old pump could have been used, but I chose a pump and was told that the price was $2400, for the pump and installation. Additional fees were incurred for wiring and labor for wiring. I agreed to do the work, with significant pressure as we were in trouble with having water. After I agreed, I felt taken advantage of after I looked up the price of pumps online. i called the technician and he stated this pump had a 10 year warranty, you have to compare "apple to apples" and that this was a fair price. I was under the impression it would take several hours to do the work. I then called his manager who was a good listener, but stated that the hourly fees for a plumber would be more than what they charge and that many people would take all day to install this, so I figured they would be working for several hours. When I got home, I looked at the bill, and the pump and parts were $1,708.50. The labor was $901.50. They completed the work in two hours, and our water pressure was back. I appreciate the fact they solved a serious problem. The quality was excellent, but the costs of the labor exceeded anything I could have imagined. The hourly rate was $450 per hour! That included an addition error which means I paid $60 more than I should have paid! My wife wrote the check, trusting the amount was correct. Another lesson learned! I paid a premium for the pump, and I paid an more for the hourly fees than I would probably pay a physician in and urgent care center. I believe they should estimate the time and charge according to the time it takes to complete the job. The manager was a very good communicator, and I appreciate his condor that they focus on "quality and are not the cheapest, and not the most expensive." That last statement seems questionable! If you want a new well pump, they will do an excellent job. I would bid this out if I had it to do again. I presume they will refund the $60.00 they overcharged.
Description of Work: Our water pressure was down, and our plumber referred us to CJ. They responded quickly, and we arranged for them to come the next day at 9:30 am. The two workers were knowledgable and effective to assess the situation and suggest installation of a new pump and that it should be deeper. They installed a 1 hp stainless steel pump, and placed it 100 feet in the well. The water flowed well after they were finished.

Tuesday afternoon July 24, 2012 my washer stopped in the middle of a cycle. I finally determined I had no water. We're on a well so I went to Angie's List to look for help. I left a message for C&J around 4 p.m. and received a call back at 4:30 p.m. telling me they would call after 9 a.m. the next day with the scheduled time for my service call. Right at 9 a.m. I received the call that I was first on the list for the day and it would take them approximately an hour to get to my house. They arrived at 10 a.m. Kraig and his helper quickly determined that the pressure switch located in my crawl space had been underwater at some point and was severely rusted and corroded and no longer functioning. They replaced it, located it six inches higher, and reoriented it so that water could not collect in it. They also replaced the pressure gauge, after getting my approval, which was still functioning but also had water damage. Kraig left both the old pressure switch and old pressure gauge with me so that I could show them to my husband later. He also showed me a new switch so that I could see the difference between the two. And he showed me pictures he took in the crawl space of my old setup and my new setup. They honored my $100 off coupon for Angie's List members and I paid $185 instead of $285. Kraig and his helper were very professional, personable, and kept me well informed throughout through the process.
Description of Work: Replaced the pressure gauge and replaced and relocated the pressure switch Cost would have been $285 with service call, parts, labor, etc. but I had a $100 off certificate from Angie's List.

We are in the middle of a drought and on a well. Wed evening we turned on a faucet and had no water, we checked and could hear the pump running so turned off the circuit breaker. I called C&J around 6:20pm and was told a service tech would call me back to schedule an appt the next day. When the tech called, he said many wells in our area were having the same problem and that I would be second on the list for the next day. They had to lower the pump 20' and the repairmen said they were having to do the same thing to at least 3 wells a day since the drought started. After the water was back up and running, they told me to run the faucets as air would have been trapped. After turning on a couple, there was so much air in the pipes I had him come in to make sure it was normal. He assured me it was but stayed until the first faucets were working correctly to ease my mind. The service/diagnostic fee was $150 which I thought was a bit high (but I guess anymore it's probably normal) and the charge to lower the pump was $400. We had already printed out the $100 off coupon from Angie's List but the first thing he told us when he arrived was that there was a $100 coupon on their website if we wanted to print that off. So I thought that was really nice. So without the coupon it would have been $550.
Description of Work: They had to lower the pump 20' and said many, many wells were having the same problem in our area.

Called Josh at C and J, told him what was going on, he told we what he thought the problem was and that they would be out on Thur or Fri, this was Tues before Jul 4th. Around 5pm that evening, Chris from C and J called and said he would be at the house shortly, this was Tues afternoon. Chris arrived, assessed the problem, called and gave me suggestions/options. I told him to go ahead an lower the pump as much as possible and we will see what happens. Well, I do have water again but with the ongoing drought not sure what the future holds.Josh called making sure everything was OK and I said that his wife (took the initial call) and Chris were wonderful to work with and that I also liked the fact that he stated that he and his family were Christians on his company website. Feeling that strong about his faith was one of the main reasons I chose C and J and would do so in the future and also recommend them to friends.

We started experiencing problems with our well water supply on a Friday morning in the middle of a drought. Having never been on a well before we were uncertain as to the cause of the problem. We called C&J and tpld them we were out of water (we were at the time) and they promised to get to us no later then the following morning. In the meantime, I replaced the pressure tank and our water problems appeared to go away. We called C&J to let them know that we did have water and no longer had an emergency. They thanked us for letting them know and asked if we would like for them to call out for a service call to check the pump and make sure our problems were solved. We agreed and they committed to being the first out on Monday morning. Over the weekend our pump dropped out 2 times, but always came back so we knew our problem wasn't solved. On Monday morning, the guys showed up, checked our pump electrically and concluded that it needed replacing. After pulling the pump, they checked the water level and depth of our well and suggested that it might be a good idea to lower the pump 20'. They also pointed out that we were operating pretty close to the maximum depth for the size of pump that we had and recommended that the next size pump, while more expensive, would give us better flow and likely last longer. They gave us the pricing and did not push a solution. We followed their recommendations by getting the larger pump and having it lowered 20'. They also suggested that we consider getting the well flushed some time as they noticed that there seemed to be a lot of build up on the casing and it should be done every 3-5 years. They pointed out that the normal charge for a flushing was deeply discounted if it was done with a new pump installation but could not do it at the time because they did not have the equipment they needed with them. They suggested that we call to get the flushing on the schedule and they would still honor the discount since they didn't have the equipment with them. They started the installation and ran a check of the pump and were not satisfied with the flow they were getting out of the pump. They went ahead and pulled the pump back out and decided that flushing the well would solve the problem. They then managed to come up with the equipment they needed to flush the well and before they left we had good clean water. Through it all, the crew was friendly ans answered all of our many questions. We will not hesitate to call them should we ever need their services again.
Description of Work: Our 1/2 hp well pump was replaced with a 3/4 hp pump, the well was flushed and the new pump was lowered 20' in the well.

Great experience but was surprised they did not call before showing up.
Description of Work: Called on Wednesday 6-27 and talked to Josh in the service department about the lack of my well pressure not reaching the cut-off pressure and pump constantly running. He was very responsive and advised there was probably a well water leak after I told him I had shut off the line to the house and same problem, and checked the water lines in the crawlspace and no leaks observed. Was told they would try to get to me by Friday. On thursday 6-28 got a call from my daughter that c&J was at the house (only problem they did not call me first lucky someone was there). Explained to the service tech Craig the previous info and he told me the cost to pull the pump. Need water go ahead. Craig called me and kept me updated on everything found. Ended up the previous repair people used galvanized pipe at pump in well and it had rusted thru and was leaking severely and pitless system needed repaired. Work was professional and completed quickly even in this 100 degree weather. Thanks C&J will recommend you and will use you if needed again. PS the other company i used previously seemed ok but used contractors and apparently cut corners on the new pump install. I guess you get what you pay for.

Monday night our well went dry after I had been watering trees with the hose full blast for an hour. After waiting a couple of hours, we could get a little water, but it quickly went away. On Tuesday morning, there was enough water for my husband to take a quick shower. My husband called C&J on Tuesday; they said they would have somebody contact us and come out on Wednesday. Over the next 24 hours, my husband and I had many animated conversations about the cost of a new pump, or, more likely, a new well, which we knew was what we were facing. This morning (Wednesday) there was enough water for us both to take showers and flush the toilets, then I had to wait for water to return. The guys came out this afternoon and, after spending half an hour in the basement where the tank and filter are, they emerged with good news: No new well or pump necessary as of today. They cleaned the sediment filter and were able to get us back into water right away. The pump is running fine. I think our well is shallow; it is, compared to other wells around us, but not outrageously so, they said. We did talk about the possibility of digging a new well in the future and having the two tied together. They were kind enough to discuss our whole water situation at my request We hate our salt-using water softener and they agreed that the 50 gallons it dumps every day on its cycle is on the high side. My husband hates it because of all the salt. He doesn't think it's healthy. Anyway, C&J also does reverse osmosis water softeners, which is handy news, and something my husband wants to pursue with them after vacation. The bottom line: D&J were prompt, courteous, informative, and HONEST. Let's face it; in this drought, they could have easily told me we needed to drill a deeper well. When I told them my husband had wondered if the pump was okay, they could have told me I needed a new pump. Instead, they replaced my sediment filter, a $10 part. With my Angie's list coupon, the whole service call was $60!! D&J has earned a new customer. We will be using them when we replace our water softener, and we probably will go ahead with a second well in the next 2-3 years. D&J will be the ONLY company we call for both projects.
Description of Work: Performed diagnostics on well and pump. Replaced sediment filter at tank.

This was a replacement well. However, because of travel we needed it completed prior to leaving. Josh (owner) was superb in his public relations - prompt communication, responsive to our situation with excellent coordination between us and his employees while accommodating our schedule. His planning was excellent, he took care of all of the details - well permit, utility locate, suggestions on well location, etc. - and minimized the "mess" associated with drilling. Rusty with Chris and Ben completed drilling the well in 3 hours with excellent results (40+ gpm). Rusty kept us informed of the progress and ran the rig with smoothness and ease from his years of experience. At the end, they helped clean up some of the mud that had washed out onto a paved driveway. The next day, Chris and a second person returned and completed the hookup to the house - electrical, pipes and pressure tank - in a timely fashion. The attitude of everyone was great, they were professional, they had the right equipment and they were clearly competent. We were really blessed to have them perform this service. We would highly recommend them to anyone needing this service.

Went very well. Their quick response to us having no water on a Friday afternoon was greatly appreciated. Overall very clean and did not leave mess for me to clean up. Clean professional guys and nice install job. Did some quick price checking on the pump system and it was competitive PLUS they did the well cleaning as part of the install-normally $400-$500. Explained each step I asked about so I now know more about my well system than I ever did. George in the office was great at explaining my options and Greg did a great job on the install-a real pleasure to have in my house.
Description of Work: Well switch had failed while we were on vacation so we returned to a house with no water since the well was not getting electricity. Called C&J, who installed the well 11 years earlier, and they came out same day and patched us together to get water until we decided on a more permanent solution. After weighing a couple of alterntives we chose to purchase a new 3.5 hp constant pressure well pump system. We decided on that option on Monday and they were there to remove old pump and install new on Wednesday. They removed the old pump, flushed the well to clean, installed new pump, small pressure tank, and the electronics. They removed all the old plumbing needed for the old pump and added all the new plumbing for the new system.
