These guys are excellent. Best electrical contractor that I've ever dealt with. Honest, responsive, reasonable and complete. They diagnosed a ComEd issue that ComEd couldn't even diagnose on multiple attempts.

We had been living in our new home for only 2 weeks when the circuit breaker for the whole upstairs and basement tripped and wouldn't reset. We diagnosed the problem ourselves as relating to one room or just a faulty circuit breaker - but with family coming in town the next day we needed power back ASAP. Wilshore was very responsive, we called first thing in the morning and after some pleading they were able to come out that day and they fixed our problem. We will absolutely use them again in the future.

The entire experience was totally positive from start to finish. Since I work only 15 minutes away from my home, I asked them to call me at work when they were ready to come to my home so I wouldn't need to take any unnecessary time off. Jon, the owner, called me on the day and time frame scheduled and informed me the electrician was on his way and would arrive between 1:30 and 2 pm. As I was pulling into my driveway, the electrician was driving into the cul de sac. Perfect timing. Martin, the electrician who did the job, was very professional and also very patient with my dog, who is very nosey and can be annoying. He had all the equipment he needed and performed the work in under 2 hours, leaving absolutely no mess or damage despite the fact that he had to crawl into the attic and drill into the ceiling. When my husband saw the work performed he couldn't believe it! It was as though the chandelier had always been there. We would definitely use them again and recommend them to others. We could not have been more pleased with their work!
Description of Work: We wanted to install a chandelier in our guest bedroom but there was no electrical box in the ceiling. We hired Wilshore, who cut a new ceiling opening and fished a BX from the attic down to the light switch in the room. They then installed the chandelier and also replaced the switch, then tested and verified the proper operation.

Initially, i asked Jon Stenberg, the owner, to come to the house and walk through it so I could ask about a variety of changes I was considering. Much of what I wanted done, he told me, could be done far more affordability with readily available fixes such as long extension cords and additional floor lighting in my office which came with fluorescent lights. I was very impressed with his honesty and preference for saving us money instead of bulking up his estimate. The services he felt should be done were carried out efficiently, quietly and everything works perfectly (which, in this house, is really nothing short of a miracle - the people who lived here before us did pretty much everything wrong.) I was somewhat nervous about doing anything electrical, because we've had trouble with it in the past, but Martin, the electrician who did the work, was completely professional and knowledgeable. He was here for about 5 hours one day and returned the following week for another few hours. He cleaned up after himself, took time to explain to me what he had done and whatever else I needed to know, such as how to work the ceiling fan remote. This morning I received my invoice from Wilshore and, as I was heading out to have lunch with my husband in a suburb very near Wilshore, I delivered the check in person. When I got home this afternoon I found an email from Jon stating that he had neglected to apply an Angie's List discount on the initial visit and telling me that he would be sending me a check immediately. I am SO glad to have found this company nd I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone!

During the scoping of the work, Jon was knowledgeable and responsive. He was upfront about when the work could be performed and how long it would take. Once the date was set, his team showed up and completed everything on schedule. The team was professional and courteous. There are no issues with the quality of the work and I paid exactly what was quoted. I had 2 other quotes for the job - one was much higher and the other was competitive but the company was terrible at responding to questions and refused to give a time frame to perform the work. It's nice to see a company in this line of business like Wilshore that actually cares about customer service.

They were fairly responsive, meaning when we called they got back to us quickly. They showed up when they said they would show up. They provided a quote on doing the repair work. They even gave me a quote on some other work we wanted done but I have not done it yet. Their quote was reasonable and did the repair work. The quality of their work was fine. I will use them again.

This company was excellent. They were responsive and the owner himself came out to do the estimate in a timely manner--other companies didn't bother to call back or scheduled estimate walkthrough weeks later. They recognized the problems with our outdated electrical infrastructure and came up with good solutions. Two employees worked for two full days and got everything done. The owner stopped by to make sure we were happy with the work as it was going on. They were all very friendly and professional. The estimate was accurate for the larger part of the job, and the other part (installing lighting fixtures) was billed for time and materials, which was clearly stated on the estimate. We plan to use them again for our next project and would recommend them.

We bought a house built in 1907 this year (2011) which had many of the original electrical components from the 1960's, or earlier. Tom was able to help us bring everything up to code as well as help me understand how to best set up our electrical system for our current and planned future needs. He has been very patient with me (a first time homebuyer with limited understanding of modern electricity) and has been very willing to take the time to explain the whys and hows of each project which I appreciate greatly. He first came out to replace our fuse box and I have used him for several minor projects since then. I have received quotes from other electricians on the various projects and Tom has always come in under or at what other electricians quoted me. Today I would be hard pressed to consider any other electrician for our needs. He is very clean, prompt, and professional and I would highly recommend him. He is very busy (which should be a good sign) so sometimes his availability is limited but once you have him booked the work gets done on time and extremely quickly. We've had a lot of work done on this old house over the past few months and Tom has been one of our favorite professionals to work with.
Description of Work: Replaced old fuse box with 100 amp circuit breaker. Installed whole house surge protector. Properly grounded circuit breaker. Ran electrical line under crawl space for new HVAC and new garage. Replaced old gas lamp style light fixtures with modern electrical boxes.

Met with Jon to discuss the work that we wanted/needed done. He listened, asked questions to clarify the needs, then made (good) suggestions about how things could be done better. Then after we selected them to do the work, we scheduled the days for the work (they seemed quite willing to be accommodating with the scheduling, offering options on the order of work and days, but as it turned out the one he thought would be the best as far as workflow was the one that fit into my schedule the best as well). Both Jon and the two electricians that did the installation were friendly and professional. The work was done well, and actually finished slightly ahead of schedule (well before noon, instead of afternoon). Would definitely contact them again for any future electrical needs.
Description of Work: Installed new electrical panel with more spaces (to replace old too-small panel), relocated slightly to meet current code requirements. Installed new circuits (with appropriate conduit, boxes, and outlets) for kitchen (5) and baths (2)

Martin from Wilshore arrived on time to perform the estimate. He was pleasant, but seemed a little less "with it" than the other electricians. Didn't ask as many questions, seemed to spend more time looking at us than the areas we wanted him to fix. Getting the estimate from the owner, Jon, took a little over a week. When he finally did the ESTIMATE, it WAS MORE THAN DOUBLE, NEARLY TRIPLE the estimate we received from THREE OTHER ANGIE'S LIST ELECTRICIANS who were actually all within $25 of each other. Jon explained that the extra $500 to $1000 dollars in the estimate considered that an additional $30 part would be required and "other factors", such as the fact that our unit was located on the third floor. ??? Are Wilshore electricians are so seriously out of shape that they require 2 to 3 hours of billable time to climb two flights of indoor stairs?? Ours was a small job, but we're definitely giving it to someone else.
Description of Work: Estimate cost for 1) adding new electrical outlet 2 feet above existing one, 2) installing new junction box for chandelier "in line" with existing box, 3) moving existing junction box 2 feet "in line" from current position, 4) adding new wall switch for new junction box

Response from WILSHORE ELECTRIC
As you can see this is our first poor report and I would like to comment on it to clear a few things up. We take our work and customer service very seriously and don't ever want any customer, or potential customer, unhappy for any reason. Whenever we do a job we always try to make sure the customer is satisfied, this rating is based on an estimate, no work was ever performed. When I was first contacted by the customer I was out of town. I let her know that I could come over when I get back in town or I could send someone else to take a look. She lived near Martin so I had him take a look while I was out of town, that was on 5-12, one day after I received her e-mail request for a quote. On Sunday, 5-15, I contacted customer and made sure Martin was out while I was out of town and asked if he answered any questions she had. I let her know I would get the paperwork on Monday 5-16 and would get her an estimate that week. On 5-18 she e-mailed asking if I had the estimate ready yet. I let her know that since I was on vacation I was backed up with paperwork but explained what costs would be and would formalize into a quote the next day. In that e-mail I described that labor and material would be approximately $500-$790 before discount. As an Angie's List customer we offer a 10% discount on the first call which would bring the estimate to a range of $450-$711. I also let her know since work is performed on a time and material basis it may be even lower. She replied shortly after stating I must be confused and that my estimate was more than twice if not triple the cost of others. I apologized and let her know that I would double check with Martin and get back to her the next day. I checked with Martin and verified what the scope of work was. The work was to be performed on the 3rd floor of a building that did not have an elevator; there was also no guaranteed parking on the street. Can Wilshore Electric electricians walk up a few flights of stairs, of course. Does parking a block away and having to walk up to the 3rd floor with your tools and materials take a little extra time, certainly. Did I add 2-3 hours of billable time, no. Those factors and the $30 part adding $500-$1000? My estimate was for $450-$711 with $100-$150 of that being material. The other 3 estimates were almost a third of mine? That means that she was getting quotes for approximately $150-$237. With $100-$150 in material that means they were going to cut in and fish wiring to 2 new ceiling openings and 1 new outlet. Then install a new dimmer, dimmer fan speed control, an outlet, hang a chandelier and assemble and hang a new ceiling fan for $50-$137 in labor. If that was the case, then as I told her, I was sorry for wasting her time waiting for an estimate. An estimate that took 3 business days to get to her from when I returned to town and only 5 business days after Martin was there to look at the work, not over a week. As I said, Wilshore Electric takes our work and customer service seriously. I do believe the customer had 3 estimates for half to a third of my estimate. I just don’t think it was an “apples to apples” comparison. We can’t win every job we bid but we do make sure that the work is done properly, safely, complies with code, a done with quality materials. If anyone has any questions the can feel free to all me or e-mail me Thank You, Jon

Lowest bid for the highest quality parts, but the parts took a while to be received. Since the heat cable was received after a first snow storm, during the first thaw in December, he dropped all other work, came to my house and completed the installation. The breakers were too sensitive and flipped off after a day of working, and he sent another electrician the very next day to correct the problem with a less sensitive, same rated breaker. Very prompt, very thorough, very courteous, and willing to work around issues.

The service man was prompt and professional. He pointed out where the plumber who installed my hot water heater improperly set up the electrical connection. He also pointed out that it should have had a different kind of connection in the breaker box. (I'm not sure what all the official terms is for this piece of equipment). He was in and out within the hour. On Christmas Eve no less! I learned my lesson and will definitely have a licensed electrician handle any electrical work in my condo in the future.
Description of Work: Lost access to my hot water just before Christmas. When I attempted to reset circuit breaker I thought I'm smelled something burning, so I figured it was electrical in nature. I checked Angie's List and found this highly rated electrician in my area. I called Wilshore and they were able to send out someone Christmas Eve morning to take a look. I couldn't believe my luck since Christmas Eve was a Friday and if someone wasn't able to come I wouldn't have any hot water until Monday.

They very impressive from start to finish. When I was calling around for estimates, Wilshore's proprietor responded immediately, came to the house the day I called to make an estimate, and was very willing to listen and respond to the dozens of questions I asked. The crew that performed the work was efficient, effective and a pleasure to have in my house. The job was finished on time an on budget, and Wilshore went out of their way to ensure that I was pleased with their work. I have no complaints and I will use Wilshore again if I need additional electrical work.
Description of Work: Wilshore replaced all knob-and-tube wiring and all ungrounded outlets in our 100-year-old house. They added new outlets, switches and built-in lighting fixtures. They did one job for me and I liked them. The price was much less than another estimate that I got. They ended up billing me more than they quoted. They are a small company and I just called to say that the bill was more than I thought it would be. He apologized and they refunded some money. I wasn't calling to get money back. I had tried a couple of things to satisfy this building inspector and they worked with me and got the work done. They were timely. I would definitely use them again.

A ceiling light was sparking and tripping the circuit breakers. We did not want to wait to get it repaired. It was Labor Day weekend and, needless to say, hard to find someone. Our regular electrician and back up electrician were nowhere to be found. We found Wilshore on Angie's List and took a chance. Jon was super. He came out right away, checked the wires and waited while my husband went out to get a new fixture. I can't say enough about how happy we were with the experience and Wilshore will be our first choice from now on.

Tom (co-owner) and his helper John showed up on time and ready to work. I needed Comcast cable wire fished down three interior walls from the attic to create outlets. They were fast and efficient which made the hourly rate well worth it. I really felt bad for John being up in the attic with the 95 degree heat but he was a good sport. Both guys were very cheerful and professional. Tom stayed after and went over some concerns I had about a previous elecrician's work. I will definitely use them again..
