I called Ray's in somewhat of a panic because I was worried they wouldn't be able to come out soon and maybe my 14-year old furnace needed something major. The person who answered the phone was courteous, apologizing that they couldn't work me into their schedule that SAME DAY until 3:00. I was ecstatic. Lou arrived promptly, quickly found the problem, replaced a $280 part, and checked the filter. He said I had a few more months left in the filter so didn't need to replace it until this spring. I couldn't ask for better service. Thank you.

Our furnance stopped working in October, so I called another company that I had used before. They came out and said repairs would be almost $2000 and strongly recommended I buy a new furnance even though the current one was only 8 years old because the brand was unreliable. The funny thing I found was the brand the y recommended was owned by the same parent company. Here's the thing I learned after a lot of research: furnace brand is mostly meaningless. Most of the brands are manufactured by the same parent company and just priced according to name recognition. More important than brand is finding a good furnace contractor. Also furnaces should last 15 to 20 years, with regular maintenance. Anyway I called another company and Rays. Rays was the only one that was honest and said a new furnace was not necessary. It turned out a sensor had gone bad and the total cost was about $270. Definitely will use in the future.

Very well. Knowledgeable and conducted a thorough examination and review of the entire furnace, even taking time to explain what he was seeing and my options and his opinion on what should be done. I would definitely hire this company again.

When he checked my humidifier filter and it wasn't that bad they didn't try and sell me another one. Price is pretty average, cheaper is always better, but their right on par. They were right on time. I would definitely use them again.

We had noticed some water on the basement floor under the furnace over the weekend. I placed a call to Ray's on Monday morning and left a voice message, which was returned within 5 minutes. Bill, the technician, was at the house within a half hour following that call (on a cold morning with snow on the ground). He was quick to diagnose the issues and fix them, with parts on the truck that were considerably less expensive than the manufacturer parts. Bill also happened to notice an issue with the original installation (I think he said a pressure switch was incorrectly attached to a vent port). Since Ray's installs the brand of furnace I have in my house, Bill was intimately familiar with it (Ray's wasn't the original installer). Bill's work was thorough and clean, and he was courteous and professional. Great, prompt service, at a very competitive price! And the peace of mind that comes with hiring a professional firm with a tradition of excellence, was worth the price of service.

The service I received was excellent. The technicians were on-time (actually a few minutes early) and very thorough when setting up the new thermostat. I always like to learn and the installer had no problem answering my questions as I watched the process. I had them quote me on a new humidifier to be installed at a later date as well and the $450 price tag is competitive with other options I've looked in to. In and out in just about one hour with the work complete is a win in my book, I would definitely use their services again.

Just might be the best repair service I've ever received. Provider returned my call first thing Monday morning and scheduled an appointment for the same afternoon. He arrived on time (exactly!). He was very professional - answered all my questions, explained everything thing he was doing, and was never condescending. He identified and repaired the issue in a timely manner and honored the discount through Angie's list. I will definitely use them again and refer others to them! Very pleased.

There was a very quick turn around time between when I called them and when they were able to come out to the house. I called several other places to see if they could get here sooner, and Ray's was the quickest. The price we paid was on the low end of the original quote range. It was very reasonable.

The owner checked out our situation and provided the estimate, rather than a company salesman. He offered some recommendations about the sizing of the duct work, that none of the other salesman recognized. I'm certain that these duct modifications improved the performance of the equipment. They had a competitive price, They did a careful and professional job installing the equipment and they cleaned up everything when finished

Bill and his crew were timely, courteous and extremely professional. They started and finished the job exactly as promised. The house was left as clean, if not cleaner, when they finished as when they started. I am extremely satisfied with the service they provided.
Description of Work: Bill Edwards and his crew installed a central air conditioning system in my attic. Since I have hot water heat, there was no duct work in the house, so the duct work was put in the attic and diffusers put in all the upstairs rooms of the house.

The techs at Ray's came out to the house and proceeded to systematically troubleshoot the heater, testing the suspected parts identified by the Lanz techs as being bad (the ignitor and the gas valve assembly). They discovered that both those parts were functional, but discovered that another component, the fan board, was the culprit. They replaced it, and all has been working well since. I observed the entire time, while the Ray's techs serviced the heater, asking questions and getting feedback about the operation of the heating system. The $180 reflects the cost of the new fan board only. These guys from Ray's seemed very competent and honest. I should have called them from the beginning. I'll be writing a critique of the Lanz service in the near future.

Unfortunately, we were not able to use them because we could not reach anyone for an emergency heating call on a Sunday morning. I rated them a C overall and an F for responsiveness because I could not determine what the service would have been like had they come out, but I did have at least some experience with the company by trying to reach them and not being able to reach anyone or even be allowed to leave a message.
Description of Work: We called early Sunday morning after researching Angie's List. Ray's scored high and had favorable comments. But when we called, despite advertising 24-hour emergency service, we received a recording stating: "If you have an emergency, call the number on your furnace." We don't have a number on our furnace. I would think a company that advertises 24-hour service would have an answering service.

Response from Ray's Heating & Air Conditioning
[member name removed], I apologize for not being able to accommodate coming out on Sunday. Yes, we provide emergency service for our existing customers, due to the fact we can't keep every part for every furnace on our trucks or in our shop. I looked up your address and noticed you were located in Frankfort, IL. If it was your house that had a problem I would have explained to you that you were out of our service area. We only service the Champaign/Urbana area an hour and 45 minutes south of you. but if it was a rental in the Champaign/Urbana area, we would have gone out to check on the furnace on the basis that you were the owner of the property and was giving us consent that you were the one liable for the bill. Or pointed you to someone that would have the part for your furnace on the weekend. Thank you Bill Edwards

Had been hearing noise / vibration from furnace fan for a couple of weeks. Furnace is almost 20yrs old. Started getting quotes for both furnace replacement and repair. Repair required replacement of blower fan and maybe motor. Rays had the best quote for both furnace replacement and repair. Ray's owner (Bill Edwards) Provided me with all the options to make an informed decision and didn't try to sell me an expensive replacement. I had made the decision to have Ray's repair the blower/motor rather than replace. I had scheduled a service call for the next week and Ray's was ordering the part. Unfortunately over the weekend the blower flan completely disintegrated (it makes a lot of noise when that happens). I contacted Ray's 24 hr number on a Saturday morning. I didn't need emergency weekend service since I could keep the house warm for a day or two with my gas fireplace. Ray's got the part and came over first thing Monday morning to replace the blower fan -the motor didn't need replacing. It was a very reasonably priced repair and I was very thankful they were able to get to my house 1st thing Monday morning -since the temps were expected to drop to negative numbers. I would definitely use Ray's in the future, and if at some point I do need a new furnace or AC, I'll call Ray's

They installed quickly, despite heat wave that was keeping them busy night and day. I did not dicker on price. Struck me as fair, and, indeed, the amount of labor I saw them out in, and what I know to be the wholesale cost of equipment, confirm my feeling that they quoted an honest price for quality work. TOP RECOMMENDATION. These are owner-workers in a family firm that started two generations ago.
Description of Work: AC failed after 28 years. They quickly diagnosed problem: corrosion of unit in plenum. Laid out options: could keep current (old) compressor, but when it fails would need entire new system since refrigerants have changed. Opted for all new.

It went great. They were able to take apart the old unit and get the new one on through our attic opening without having to modify the opening at all. Other companies weren't sure if it were going to be possible. The install went smooth and they answered every question I had. They also came in well under what the other companies quoted us.

Extremely well. We've long trusted Ray's for our furnace and air conditioning (and the word on the street about them in our neighborhood couldn't be more positive). Even though the wonderful Pat Dill just retired, the new owner and his sons seem to be working in the same tradition. The job came through exactly as estimated (even though a tight fit for the indoor coils led them to forge a new metal cover), things were explained patiently to us throughout the process despite our being technologically clueless, and Ray's even handled the energy efficiency rebate from Ameren that lowered the replacement cost. We've been using the new air conditioning for over a week now, without a hitch.
Description of Work: We actually first called them out because we learned (on the first really hot day, when everyone else was calling too) that our central air conditioning was working poorly. It turned out we were very low on refrigerant. Trying to fix the leak wasn't worth it, given the lower energy efficiency of our old central air unit. So, a week later (surprisingly quickly consider all the other calls that had come in), Ray's installed a new Tempstar central air system.

We live on the East Coast and are owners of a rental condo in Champaign. We got names of providers from Angie's List and contacted top 2 by phone and email. Ray was selected due to better responsiveness, knowledge, and range of solutions to the problem of replacing furnace. We also replaced elderly air conditioning system after hearing condition and options. We were pleased with his clear assessment of the problems, sensible and clear proposals, knowledgeabiliity about rebates (which the other company did not mention about the same units), and fair price (which we researched independently). There were no problems reported by our tenant about timeliness, cleanliness, and professional demeanor.

Ray's did a great job. The original install date had to be pushed back one week, but that was completely understandable as the installer experienced a death in the family. The owner, Pat, was very good at keeping me informed and responding to my questions. The techs were courteous and competent. I had 4 estimates done and Ray's was significantly lower than the others. It took a day and a half, but they did some extra work for me (at no charge) when they ran across a couple of things that needed correcting. Now that's the kind of service I value. I would highly recommend Ray's.

Our unit went out during the hottest week of the year. Our coils and central air system were added on to our hose about 25-30 years ago, and the compressor was from that installation. Another company suggested replacing the whole system for $7000, to use newer freon. But that would also have meant waiting until the heat broke in the fall as our attic-based system (no forced air ducts, radiant heated house) would have been to hot for any worker to work in. Ray's quoted a compressor using "old" freon. The cost differential was so high, that it did not make sense to go with the newer system. The return on investment was not there. They got the job done quickly and cleanly, and we were very very grateful.
Description of Work: They replaced our external compressor for our attic based evaporator unit. They did the work quickly and within the estimate during a scorching hot week. Would recommend!

The project went smoothly from the original estimate to completion. The removal of the old furnace and installation of the new unit took a day and a half. Thre guys were on the crew. They had to customized the sheet metal and PVC connections to fit with the existing AC unit. There was a problem with one of the burners which they tested and fixed. Everything is working well. I'm looking forward to seeing my next power bill.
