Mendel Plumbing and Heating

Went great, Jeff showed up on time, got to work and had it flowing in no time. Cleaned up after himself and was quite pleasant.

They did a visit (no charge) viewed the problem and provided a written estimate. They discussed options with me. The work was done quickly and it looked good. I was impressed. I feel they are a little pricey but they may be the right decision.

Initially there was some confusion on whether Mendal was to contact me for an appointment as stated in the Angie's list email or I was supposed to contact them. Once that was resolved the appointment was made. The rep from Mendal arrived exactly on time and were in and out in 30 minutes

Technician was on time, professional and courteous. He did the job that was requested and gave me all the information I needed to know to keep my A/C unit working. He was helpful and knowledgable of his job.

They have prompt and capable service. They have a very high price and have over billing issues. They have unprofessional bills because they are hand done in the truck instead of being done in the office. They make you pay on the spot. I would prefer to use my card and send me a professional bill. I wouldn't have to rewrite the bill once I get it. I have to pay $45.00 for the man to write the bill up after they job. I have had to call them about the bill 5 different times because the bill was too high. These issues have lead me to using a different contractor.

My sink is a Francke stainless, zero radius, deep single bowl, which shifts every year due to the vibration of a heavy duty insinkerator. The plumber came out, reset the sink and suggested that to prevent further shifting, have their carpenter insert blocks up against the sink/countertop to prevent further movement. Since I was having my third faucet installed in 11 years due to interior degradation caused by hard water, the plumber and I went downstairs to look at my soft water system. The plumber also did a hard water test, which indicated that the system was not functioning correctly, and recommended a new soft water system. The age of my tank was 17 years. The work was scheduled and completed today. The technician arrived on the stroke of 8:00am, which was the agreed time. Because I had purchased two faucets, he worked with me holding up each style/design for me to make a decision. The Mendel carpenter was called to buttress the sink, and he came/went in 30 minutes. Another great job. The technician installed the soft water system, and hooked up not only the hot, but cold water line as well, drained my two hot water tanks to clear the sediment, and was about to go to lunch when I had buyer's remorse. He saw I was unhappy with the Moen, preferring the Grohe, and he said, "no problem, I'll switch 'em". After lunch, he replaced the faucets, which took longer than he anticipated, since the Grohe had components that didn't quite work within the sink and cabinet's structural parameters. He took the faucet apart, reworked the installation, and the faucet's perfect and functioning. He did this without a word of complaint or attitude. The technician stayed with the job, double-checked everything, wore shoe covers when in the house, had drop cloths, turned off all the lights when he was through, and cleaned up after the job. I've worked with Mendel for 11 years, from HVAC to electrical to plumbing, and only had one so-so experience in that time period.. They installed all my kitchen/hallway lighting, a new furnace, hot water heaters, A/C, plumbing throughout the house. Their technicians are familiar with the homes in my area, and they know what works and what doesn't. They go above and beyond and fix a little here and a little there, and don't charge you extra, so that when they leave, they know it's working right. I've used handymen occasionally to save money and when the job warranted it, but whenever I've called Mendel (w/that one exp.), I have always gotten a thoroughly professional job, with no regrets.

They are courteous, very efficient, and professional. I’m happy with them.

We recently moved to the Saint Charles area from Pittsburgh, PA. Two weeks after we purchased our new home we noticed that the air conditioner was not cooling the house sufficiently. We called Mendel to investigate the unit to see if we just needed maintenance or if there was a larger issue. Their technician came to the house, cleaned the AC, checked the furnace and added coolant to the AC unit. 24 hours later, the AC wasn't cooling the house (we were expecting that to happen based on the info Mendel gave us). After contacting the home warranty company only to find out it wasn't going to be covered under warranty, we called Mendel again (on a Saturday) and they sent a tech out within an hour. The following Tuesday we had our furnace and AC unit replaced. Every time we've called, the office staff has been VERY friendly and the service technicians have been to the house promptly. We are also using their carpenter for some things around our house and plan to call them for some electrical work we also need to have done. I'll call Mendel any time we need to have work done to the house that they can do!

I used Anglie's List for the $49 A/C service which Mendel completed on Monday, 5/14/12. The day after the Memorial Day holiday, so 15 days later, we called on a "squeek" coming from the A/C unit outside that developed over the Memorial day holiday weekend. When I called Mendel, Carrie who answered the phone advised that "things break". It was not broke, it was squeeking and had just been serviced by their company 15 days ago. Remember too that the $49 was valid for 2 weeks, so that would have been Memorial Day. Mendel looked over the unit could not replicate but tried to apply pressure proceeded to advise could be compressor. Given age of unit I received a quote for a new A/C unit ranging from $5,500 - $5,800. I also had to pay them $149 for another service visit. Out of this entire experience I find having to pay the original $49 and then another $149 to be poor service and not honoring the 14 day guarantee. Next time, I will not wait until the day after a holiday to call BUT will actually call on the 14th day so as not to incur $149 more. This was the most expensive A/C service price that I have paid - nearly $200..... I am not pleased.

Arrived within the time provided, called before arriving. No added services or fees during the service call which was appreciated.

Job was planned out and completed on schedule.

They are always nice and polite. They communicate well and are reliable. They go the extra mile. They're very quick to respond and you can always reach them. It's good to know that they are always there.

It was very well. They were prompt getting out here. They were also very professional. It took longer that they expected because it was a hard area to get to.

Mendel Plumbing was very good to work with. They were prompt, thorough and their price for the job seemed fair as compared vs. some others in the area. My sump pump valves made a very loud thudding noise periodically during the day and night, which was echoing through the house and waking up my infant daughter. We wanted silent check valves installed to eliminate the noise. The service man was very friendly and knowledgeable. He also showed me that our sump pump screws holding the lid down was totally corroded and there were gaps of space where the sump was not sealed off correctly from the basement (leading to sewage gas fumes). In completion of the job, he stated that he would seal that for free with a latex sealant. The check valves work great: no more thudding noises, and the sump pump lid was sealed. The serviceman also took time to give me a tutorial of a few other plumbing related things in my house (I am not entirely plumbing savvy, so this was quite good to know). Overall a very good experience and I would hire Mendel again.

I most recently used their plubming services for two different locations. they did an excellent job. I also have a annual contract where they service my air conditioning and furnace twice a year. I am very happy with their services.

I give them top grades across the board.

They would not give me a quote over the phone so the technician they sent out gave me a quote and said he could do it right then. I had a lower price and Mendel lowered its price to almost match the competitor and they did the job right then. He did a very good job and knew exactly what I wanted.

They were a little pricey but it is worth it because they always give me really quality work. They are very responsive. They always send someone out within a couple of days of giving them a call.

I have not one thing negative to say about Mendel. Their prices are generally the highest when we receive quotes, but the product and service cannot be beat. They are always on time, very professional, and their work is excellent. You get what you pay for. I recommend Mendel to anyone that asks.

This was a difficult task but was handled with ease. Was actually a pleasant experience. Had a very precise schedule and stuck to it. All work, electrician, plumber, tile, finishing, etc., was done in house through Mendel plumbing. I would highly recommend Mendel Plumbing (Steve Lippelt - job leader) very highly.

We were very impressed with their professionalism. They were very prompt. It was right after the big rain. We still have our backup sump pump. We realized the main sump pump for not working, and there was more rain predicted, so that was nice to have it taken care. We called them on Sunday, and we got a live person on the phone, which was great. There was one man who came out. He was great, and he had a good sense of humor. He took away the old sump pump. There was another old sump pump left by the previous owner, and he was happy to haul it also. We highly recommend them. Nobody is cheap anymore, but they cover a lot of services. We did have them out here few years ago for a roof stand replaced. They take care of heating and air conditioner, plumbing, etc.

We used Mendel for 3 separate service calls during one week and all three plumbers were very good. We initially called for service to repair a slowly leaking toilet and poorly functioning shower faucet. It was not an emergency and the plumber came the following day. Paul determined that the seal was bad but also that the toilet was cracked at the back and we chose to replace it. Mendel offered a white replacement toilet from their stock but I decided to purchase one on my own of the color and style I wanted. Paul answered my questions and offered his advice about what types worked best. He offered to either remove the old toilet and discard it or make a temporary repair and re-install it. We asked him to take it away and he completed the other work. While turning off the water to the house, he determined both shut off valves (in front and behind the meter) were very old, corroded and would not completely shut off the water, although he was able to do the shower repair. He was willing to install new valves at that time, but the city was unwilling to turn off the water to the house (our town will not allow contractors to do that) without 24 hours notice. We purchased the new toilet and wanted it installed quickly and the next day Ron came to install it--the cost was time and materials ($143 per hour). We needed to coordinate with the city water department for the 3rd trip and Tom arrived right on time as scheduled and was able to replace both shut off valves although it was a bit challenging since the water could not be completely shut off from the street. All three plumbers were professional, knowledgeable, polite and cleaned up after their work. The office was very professional and helpful in scheduling and understanding the complications caused by the city. I felt confident in their expertise and honesty. Mendel can schedule a specific time for first thing in the morning and otherwise they gave a time range and the office called about 10 minutes before they arrived. They seem to carry all the supplies needed for all the different jobs on the truck. Everything is working perfectly and I would not hesitate to call Mendel anytime I need a plumber. I highly recommend them.

Asked for electrician to give an estimate on several little electrical jobs and one medium sized, all to be done together. Electrician didn't check the box to ensure there was enough amps or even room in the box. (wanted a heat lamp installed). Didn't check to see if there were enough switches etc. Never received the estimate. The company called 1 month later to ask if I wanted them to do the job. When I told them I never received the estimate they said they would send it again. Never received it. If you don't want the job, just say so. This was ridiculous and incompetent! I have used them in the past and they were fine - but VERY expensive. There are other, better choices. Avoid!
