The issue was the follow up weekly service crew mowed the sod way too short...down to the roots by using the incorrect mower or too low of a setting. However, after a few calls one if the owners stopped by and agreed it was done incorrectly and immediately replaced several pieces of sod.

 + 0 moreFirstly, I am a totally uninformed gardener! I really don't know that much about lawns and gardens. I felt comfortable with Raul Almanza (the owner) and felt that I communicated well with him. I liked that he offered some suggestions. We had a wet spring so it took him awhile to get here. This I totally understood. The men worked well and one of the men consulted me on the arrangement of the 3 yews, the one bush and the curving of the front sod. There was one communication breakdown however and I had to go out and have the men change some sod to ground cover. The men were very nice about it however. I wish that Raul could have been here more than he was. I understand he had to be elsewhere, but there were questions to ask him about the upkeep of the lawn and plants. Raul never returned after the work was completed and just sent the final bill in the mail. Now to call him considering his busy schedule and for him to remember the work might be hard to do? I have yet to call him.
Description of Work: They totally removed the existing grass, rouletted, graded and fertilized the front and back lawns. Planted sod, removed two old bushes, planted ground cover, 3 yew bushes and 1 bush. They transplanted the hostas from the back of the house to the front.

 + -1 moreWe have used this company for many years, during which time they did an adequate job on the lawn services. They have, however, always been careless about the garden. When they would move chairs, hoses, etc., in order to get the lawn work done, they were careless about where they tossed the stuff, not particularly worried about what flowers they might be destroying. The last straw was this past week, when one of their workers, without my knowedge, apparently took a rather brutal approach to "tidying" up my garden, despite my instructions to never touch the flower beds. Many of my perennials, some of which were of sentimental not to mention monetary value, were, cut back, dug up, or otherwise destroyed. Some of these plants I have had for many, many years, and are now gone, most likely forever. Others will take years to grow back to their former glory. Raul seemed singularly uninterested in retaining our business after this event, as he never even bothered to call us back.

Raul came to my house within a couple of days of my initial call to provide an estimate, and his team did the work only a few days after that. The estimate Raul gave me seemed fair but was significantly less than the estimate provided by another local A-rated company. The team worked quickly, accomplishing everything within a morning. I followed the watering instructions, and now I've got a lush, thick lawn that I hope I can keep alive through the hot months!

I did not contract for service at this time as my regular provider just showed up to do the work (the day I received the estimate no less!). I will keep estimate and may still use R & G this season, depending on the reliability of my prior arrangement. I spoke with Raul Jr. at R & G -- he was very courteous and professional. Thanks R & G for being so timely and responsive!

The work was done exactly as I asked for it to be and the cleaned up everything nicely. An excellent experience.

We had a nice meeting, walking around the yard and discussing the different things we wanted an estimate on. He had good ideas. He never called back. He never sent an estimate. I even called twice and left voicemails and I emailed once!! I was sure there must have been a minor miscommunication, but he must have just decided he wasn't interested in the job and instead of telling us, just decided to avoid us. Not professional at all.

At our request he came out on a Saturday morning and performed all work he had specified. He worked quickly but seemed very thorough. We are very satisified with the work he performed and we have already received compliments from our neighbors.

 + 0 moreThey come to cut the grass, trim the edges and that is it. I think their price is very reasonable for the amount of work that they do. If you get a hold of Raul, which I believe is the owner, he is punctual. If you need him to do something extra, he can usually show up the next day to take care of it if not the same day. They did do something for us that they have not done before. They installed a brick patio in our backyard and everything came out great. So, they did do a little bit more than just landscaping, where it is just weed pulling and grass cutting they did not do decks, but just bricks, slabs and that kind of stuff and it came out real good. I did pricing around and they are very reasonably priced. I have not had an issue with them on anything.

 + -1 moreI was needing someone ASAP, and we hadn't kept up with lawn maintenance (particularly with weeding) especially due to the amount of time we were spending watering in a particularly dry summer. I was very happy with how quickly they were able to come. It was a good price for a big job. I just was extremely unhappy with how mangled the hostas around the hedges were. It looked to me like they must have either put their ladder or directly stepped on at least three of them. Also some other perennials were stepped on. I had to do a clean up afterward since there were so many broken stems and leaves. I was surprised, because I might have used them again if they did a better job. As the company I normally use for fall and spring cleanup said - you get what you pay for. I think that they did the "quick & dirty" job I paid for rather than a more immaculate job that was beyond our budget (so late in August especially) with the other company.

 + -1 moreThese guys were awesome!! We moved into a new house a few weeks ago and the backyard was a messy mud pit from construction. We wanted to get a new walkway and patio in on short notice, but we were unsuccesful with trying to get quotes out of a few contractors. After turning to Angies's List and finding R&G, I can't say enough about Raul and his team. I met him on a Monday morning, the following day his crew was out on the job. Three days later, my yard was totally transformed with a beautiful paver patio, walkway, and professionally graded yard. We'll definitely be using them again for future projects.

 + 2 moreRaul gave some great suggestions for paving a winding pathway and patio in our backyard. He recommended pavers to use and gave us places to visit to see a variety of options. They were punctual and thorough, digging down 9 inches to give a thick gravel foundation for the brickwork. They also timed the laying of the sod well with the weather, rather than just fitting it into the job schedule, they waited until the ground was wet enough to lay the sod. A few miscommunications resulted in some minor imperfections, but nothing major. No complaints---they did a professional job at a good price. The crew was professional. Raul was responsive.

Description of Work: I have used this service for two years, and as long as there were no problems in my yard, they were fine. Recently, I had beetles on my Knockout rose bushes. I called Raul and asked to have them sprayed. He said it was too hot but that when things cooled down, the spraying would be done. He followed through on his promise. Unfortunately, I still had beetles, so several weeks later, I asked for another spraying. Raul said it would be done the day I had called or the next day, both of which were cool. However, the actual spraying was done 3-4 days later, when it was very hot, and the leaves on my bushes started to turn brown and fall off. Then the stems turned black, and all the flowers died. I called Raul three times to report this, but he never returned my call. (An empty spray can was also left in my yard.) Worried that my bushes were dying, I called the Chicago Botanic Garden plant info service. They said to cut back all the black parts and remove all the dead leaves immediately. Now my bushes look terrible, although they're still alive. Raul has not called me back, and I have sent a letter to the company "resigning" as a customer. I will not pay for the spraying when the bill arrives.

 + -1 moreRaul responded to my call on a timely basis and came out a day or two after to give me an estimate for the work I requested. I accepted immediately and he provided an approximate start date for the project. Since the work was outdoors I didn't need to be there. My neighbors tell me that there were several guys and that they made quick work of the project. The garden they planted looks very nice, the soaker hoses are the best invention ever especially when paired with a timer. The crew sprayed the patio down with something to help keep weeds from coming back. The back yard was an embarrasment before Raul and his crew fixed it up. Now I have a lovely little garden and I've added containers with flowers to the patio and have received compliments from my neighbors!
Description of Work: R&G removed all weeds for approx 20x3 foot area and resoiled then planted small plants and flowers that they provided. They put down soaker hoses and covered the entire area with mulch. They also removed weeds from between the blue stones on the patio area and took out 3 small trees that were growing under the deck.

 + -1 moreI called on the basis of strong Angie's List reviews. Raul was very friendly and professional. He came out to look at our yard, but never followed up to give us a quote. I emailed him twice, the second time giving him a deadline of when to respond so that he knew that we were looking to close the deal. Two weeks after contacting his business, I still can't get a price or communication from him. Sounds like others have used him and had a good experience -- and maybe he is just swamped this time of year, but I wasn't able to get the job to work with this business.

He came out with a crew of 2 guys who worked h****** the job for a couple of hours. They were incredibly professional and did an amazing job. They cleaned up everything meticulously after they were done. I would HIGHLY recommend this company for any landscaping needs, as their work exceeded my expectations. I will use them again if ever needed and will refer them to all my friends.
Description of Work: Raul and his crew removed the grass from our front yard. They then added peat and compost and repeatedly used the rototiller to mix it into the dirt.

 + -1 moreI found them on Angie's List. I pay them $40 every other week and $20 for each cut. They do spring clean up, which is $200. They trim bushes one per season, which is $30. They do lawn fertilization, which is $35 for six weeks and weed control is $35, which is twice per season. They do November clean up for $210. I have no complaints about them at all. They are really good. They come on time. They do what they are supposed to. They don't take a long time. They haven't ruined anything.

 + 5 moreThe crew arrived early in the morning. They were very experienced and completed the job in one day. They are hard workers and the clean up was better than when they started. The fence was also completed in one day. They are so professional
Description of Work: R&G replaced my retaining wall. It is 66 feet long and 3 feet at its highest point and gradually goes down to level. My driveway is slopped down from the street. They did a beautiful job. The estimate was $50 less than another landscaper, which was amazing that they should be so close. R&G also had a 5% coupon thru Angie's List. The wall is one railroad tie less than was originally there but it looks great and will last for years. I have used R&G for weekly lawn maintenance. They have also removed my flower garden which had so many daylillies and replaced it with grass. They also removed my hosta from the front yard and replanted it along my fence line in front and back. Besides the above, I have had them trim my trees and clean my gutters. They also replaced a stockade fence. Raul has taken good care of my needs and his prices are fair.
