Golden Fence

We have used Golden Fence a few times and each time I am never disappointed. They are professional, know their craft and will answer any and all questions you may have. Jose was out here today and completed the job in no time. Polite and did stellar work. Giovanni is excellent with his customer service and responds very quickly to any calls or emails. They custom-built the fence. It was finesse. The extra detailed provided a beautiful outcome.

Called for a free quote and schedule almost 3 weeks in advance. Received a call the day before from contractor to confirm appointment between 8-noon the next day. When 11:45 a.m. came and went I called to find out if anyone was going to show up. Office contacted salesman. Said he could come the next day. I had taken the day of appt as a vacation day from work. I would not take another vacation day to meet. I guess if I had not called no one from the company would have called and just not showed up . Job is small. 60' of privacy fence. This tells me they do not bother with small jobs and I was of little importance. I was referred to them by a neighbor across the street who was happy with their work. I will look elsewhere.

I purchased a 200' aluminum fence for my backyard from Golden Fence and they were a fantastic company to work with. Octavio handed the design, price quote, and installation. Excellent communication throughout entire process. He worked to reduce the price as much as possible, while still achieving the design and features that I desired. During installation, the crew worked hard doing the little things to make the fence "just right" - including installing a six inch wide piece of fence so my dog could not squeeze through one odd place. Even more important, when I had an issue a month later (my lawn guy completely broke one of the gates), Octavio and Golden Fence got it fixed very quickly for a fair price. Highly recommend!

I had waited a long time to hire someone to complete this project due to costs. I was so happy I hired this company to install the fencing. They were pleasant and polite to work with and they answered all of the questions I had. They never took advantage of my ignorance. I am so pleased with the outcome of this project. I have rehired them already to install a gate as well, which I can not wait for! I would highly recommend them to other people.

They do excellent work. Fence was done well. Installers were competent and quick, but were not good communicators. Drawings by the estimator had one obvious error. Instead of asking me about the error, they installed it incorrectly. I questioned it later, but installers were very defensive and not willing to fix the problem. After appealing to management, another crew came and fixed the problem. I think the supervisor was Gonzalez. One terrific guy and he “bent over backwards” to make me happy. Golden Fence is tops in my book now!!

After completion of our new in-ground pool we contacted two local fence contractors for bids on a new ornamental pool fence. We elected to go with Golden Fence because they promised our fence would be installed within 3-4 weeks, the other contractor was 4-5 weeks. Both fence companies used the same fence manufacturer, with same quality product. Golden Fence was actually slightly more money for the exact same fence, but we chose them because they assured us fence would be installed within 3-4 weeks, they even wrote this in our contract. After we signed their paperwork and made a 50% deposit, we never heard from them, so when 4 weeks had past and no communication, I finally called them. I spoke to Giovannie about my displeasure with their company. He assumed reason for hold up was probably due to fence material not being delivered yet, but he would investigate. The next day I find out material was indeed in, but no one bothered to call or set up a time to install. Now I was informed it could be another 2 weeks before they could install, as they were behind. I angrily told them this was unacceptable as they had promised, (and my contracted stated) fence would be installed in 3-4 weeks, which we were beyond already. Workers finally showed up at 5 1/2 weeks to install. When their truck arrived it was so poorly loaded that several of my fence sections were damaged. I also found that one of my gates was the wrong size, Giavannie tried to argue that I ordered it wrong, but their proposal ended up proving otherwise, that it was indeed their mistake. Installers spoke little English so it was very difficult to communicate with them. They were provided poor tools for installation, they actually had to dig all post holes by hand. I informed them it was very important that the back section of my fence was to be installed level, which they claimed to understand. When I came home I found back section of fence was a mess, totally uneven and clearly not level. The only way to effectively communicate with them about this problem was through Giavannie, I would have to speak to him by phone and he would relay message back by phone in Spanish to his installers. This was very frustrating as his installers tried to convince Giavannie that they felt it was impossible to level the fence, which was clearly untrue. Giavannie even tried to convince me it was impossible to install any fence level. I told him all along it was fine with me if there were spaces under fence as my landscapers had not finished final soil grade yet, so they could indeed install fence level and I would have landscapers fill in any gaps under fence with more soil. Giovannie claimed he was too busy to come inspect current job, but he never offered to send out another supervisor. I had to pull a string, place a level and show his installers how to install fence level. Concrete for the posts they installed were already setting up but they all assured me it would be fine to move posts so fence would become level. Turns out this was incorrect as some posts settled and my fence today is uneven and looks unprofessional. My fence did not pass county inspection. Golden Fence did come back to fix the county's issues so fence would finally pass, but it took 2 or 3 attempts. I have hired a lot of service contractors over the years, and my experience has taught me to lower my expectations and expect problems. However, there were just too many problems with Golden Fence to ever consider recommending them to others.

They were great, they came when I asked and very very prompt. They worked around our schedules. We were really satisfied with the company. I would absolutely recommend them.

We are very happy with their performance. The fence is exactly what they said I would get. They were delayed by the manufacturer about 3 days, but once they got all the material they were able to finish the job within the day.

Giovanni was very punctual and fair. They installed my fence 8 years ago and it is still beautiful. This is the only problem I have had, just one post rotted at the ground level. They do great custom work for a really fair price and it’s quality. Thanks Giovanni!

I have worked with Golden Fence for over 15 years - first as the President of a homeowner's association in Mundelein, and now with my house in McHenry. Golden Fence installed all wood perimeter fencing at the subdivision in Mundelein, along with several concrete and driveway replacements. On my new property in McHenry, they installed chain-link fencing and my daughter's house across the street. Just this last week, they completed a new brick sidewalk and porch with steel railings that I absolutely love. I have always been very satisfied with the service and work.

BEWARE!!!! Took 2 days just to get a quote, after multiple responses of same questions. Got passed around between several people then got a price $1100 over average. I always get 3 quotes and never have they ever been so far off. And all I wanted was 50 ft of chainlink. 1450 for a roll of fence. Get out of here.

It took a couple reschedulings to get them here for the job, but that was the only downside. Everything else was fabulous: work, efficiency, price. Couldn't be happier.

They were very good. Excellent Quality and pleasant to work with. They did what they promised. Once they got the supplies in, it was done in a day. It's not a simple as, you know. The job took a day. They came in, they said they were going to come on a Tuesday. They came on a Tuesday. They put the concrete in and waited the proper amount of time we were supposed to. So I think they came back the next day and put in the actual wrought iron fencing. We had to wait. It probably took 2 or 3 weeks to get the motor so the put the actual gate in and we just kept it open. Then they came an installed the apparatus to open and close it. We got a little key pad so if someone comes and where not here to let them in, they can use the key pad to get in.

They never showed up for the confirmed appointment. This was not a surprise because other Angies List reviews stated similar problems. I am so glad I didn't hire them because the company I did hire did a fantastic job and did everything they said they would do and more.

I reached out through Angie's List to Golden Fence to inquire about getting a quote and how late in the season they install.

I called because they provided an estimate for my neighbor. I eft two messages, no call back so I moved on to another comapny.

Golden Fence installed a cedar fence on 7/28/2014. The contract included a 2yr. workmanship warranty for unforeseen problems. After the 1st. Winter (2014), all the gates (3) would no longer "latch" due to shifting of the posts. It took several calls to get that corrected. We erroneously accepted that issue as an anomaly. After the second winter (2015), at least 9 posts lifted out of the ground (heaved). After over two months and several emails and calls, starting April 21st, Golden Fence has not responded to our request to fix the fence. The good: Our initial contact that came out to assess our property, and the work crew were friendly, and for the most part easy to deal with. They took care of getting the permit, which in Evanston here it's not a big deal to get the permit ourselves, but this was a nice little plus. Once work actually began, the crew arrived promptly, worked at a reasonable pace, and did a thorough job of cleaning up after themselves as they went along. The bad: While we understand installing a privacy fence of this sort is not fine cabinetry work and our fence was installed in the height of the busy season, overall we are not entirely pleased with the installation. They used nails, which I know is an industry standard, but in hindsight my recommendation would be to go with a company like Family Fences that uses screws and constructs their fences more carefully for the same price. A lot of the nailing on ours was haphazard, and entire sections had been skipped. They removed our chain link fence and its posts, but in a couple of places didn't bother to cut the posts low enough and thus the new cedar fence was resting directly on top of these (remedied on our own with a sawzall). The new cedar posts are anchored in concrete, but they did not fill to ground level, so the bottom 6 inches or so of post is sitting in dirt. Again, this seems to be an industry standard, and if you want the concrete to come up ground level, it must be requested (found out later). Little was done to level out the ground in places, and so in many areas the base of the fence panels are also sitting in dirt. Finally, after not hearing from them after making initial payment, called to get on the schedule to begin work. Twice they told me "crew will be there on X" only not to have them show. When they finally did, the crew person that showed up didn't have a clue as to what was being done to our yard, and thus instilled little confidence that things would be done properly. Along the back 30 ft. of yard, there was supposed to be no 1ft of lattice work, as there was on the rest of the fence. It's in our contract. This was not done, and lattice was installed along the back. Again, not a huge deal, but...details. A few weeks after installation we did reach out to them to see if they would be willing to come out to look over the fence. I wanted to give them a chance before leaving this review. After being told they would contact us on a specific day to do so, they never followed up. Final evaluation: They did an ok job. They're probably fine for smaller, off season jobs. In fact, they were recommended to us via a friend that had used them for just that. In hindsight would go with another company that uses screws and does cleaner construction.

I had made an appointment for 11am today to have a person come out to provide a quote. At 11:30am called to ask if their sales person is coming Eric said that they were out but could not find the house. The sales person never called, it took two more calls to Golden Fence speaking to Eric to have their sales person finally call me to reschedule. I declined to reschedule. If I have to keep calling to have someone come out that tells me everything I need to know about future dealings with a company.
