Budget Right Kitchens

Very professional and thorough. Went with another company though because the bid was it was more competitive. Several friends hired Budget Right for other small jobs and were very pleased with the workmanship, price and professionalism. I would consider them for another project.

We were so thrilled with Dan, Dirk, Ed and their teams of electrical and plumbing subcontractors. Their skills helped us through design dilemmas and they were patient with our questions/concerns. Always accessible by phone and totally on top of the schedule. Managed our expectations - total pros! We can't wait to work with them again.

It did not go at all? Was looking to get my kitchen but end up getting the bathroom with another company.

It went well. At the cabinet store he recommended, the employees worked on commission & our rep wasn't there on the day we stopped in - hence service wasn't up to snuff. Cabinet quality was only medium. We are still interviewing contractors.

I contacted Dirk Hoerr at Budget Right Kitchens for a custom kitchen design with a full set of plans. Dirk was exceptionall responsive. He was on time for our scheduled meeting, very professional an honest with his comments regarding any renovations. I am putting my condo on the market within the next year or two. Dirk was very honest in stating he could design the kitchen renovations and do the work. At the same time, he informed me that since I was planning on selling in the very near furture, I would probably never recuperate the expenses of the kitchen renovations. I appreciated his honesty and straight forwardness. He gave me some suggestions based on his experience as to how to handle selling without doing any renovations. Dirk did not charge me for the consultation. If I needed a designer.contractor in the future for any renovation projects, I would definitely contact Budget Right Kitchens for their services.

.All went very well. His ideas were very worthwhile and detailed and gave me good ideas for the future. The plans were emailed and were really great, done to look 3-D, so it looked like I was walking through the kitchen. There were top view and side view plans. The only problem is that the grand, ideal plan is very costly and out of our reach financially. However, some of the ideas could be incorporated, without tearing out walls and moving appliances to different locations. If we have the money to do this someday, I would be happy to hire him. He has the customer go with him to pick out wood, tile, paint colors or whatever else is desired, when the work is ready to be started. I think he has a good, artistic sense of design and use of space, which is really important.

Dirk Hoerr was professional and delivered what was promised in the big deal ('A' on responsiveness, punctuality, and professionalism). He e-mailed detailed plans and even resent e-mails when the original file attachments did not work. However, overall value to me was minimal ("B") becuase I was looking for alternate design ideas with limited budget but I did not get much beyond ideas that I already had in mind. As far as measurements and 3D drawings are concerned, Dirk was diligent but I cannot use his drawings and measurements to order cabinets becuase the contractor who will install will want to remeasure everything themselves (which absolutely makes sense). I also requested Dirk for his estimates for installation and it was way too high than what other contractors on Angie's list quoted me.

I first met with Dirk Hoerr from Budget Right Kitchens in my home. We walked through the main floor and discussed what I wanted done in each of the five rooms. We spent the major part of the time in the kitchen which I wanted completely gutted. The major problem with the kitchen was the layout with the cooking area and the eat-in area in a disjointed layout that almost made them seem like two separate rooms. I did not give Dirk a budget to start with since I wanted to see what his drawn plans looked like and the budget he suggested for the renovation. Dirk returned a week or so later with a set of drawings for a proposed kitchen. We reviewed the drawings and made changes. Overall the plans very effectively linked the cooking area and the eat-in area so that it became one large room. We discussed lighting, floors, colors, etc for the other rooms. My decorator was present for this meeting. Dirk came back with a finalized set of drawings for the kitchen, a detail list of services that would be covered under the contract, and an initial budget. The budget was broken down into what was alloted for every service performed by his company. Overall, I found his budget fair, but I always consider the intial submission a starting point for negotiations. Dirk and I were able to negotiate the price to fit into my budget. I signed the contract, Dirk gave me a pack of information including a suggested list of vendors, a start date, and a completion date. The electrician met with me to review my electrical needs and discuss lighting options. The renovation started on the stated date. There were workers in my home Monday through Saturday. They started work between 7am to 7:30 am each day and ended at 5 pm sometimes working until 7:00 pm. The first thing they did was gut the kitchen after that work went on in all 5 rooms at the same time. The only time work slowed was when the hard wood floors were sanded, varnished, and sealed. The subcontractor for the floors thought the woodfloors were in too bad of shape to refinish. He called Dan and Dan discussed with me what was going on with these old floors and what they could do to minimize the costs of putting in new flooring. It was my decision to make. The floor subcontractor covered the existing floor with high quality wood using nails long enough to anchor both the old floor and the new floor to the subfloor. My new wood floors are absolutely beautiful. Installation of a door frame and french doors for the bedroom was a little too technical for me. I was definetely out of my element trying to order the doors. Dan stepped in and helped me order correctly. My house is 130 years old. This caused many challenges to the workers. None of the walls, doors, windows were square. The floor was was unever from years of the house "setteling". Whenever one of these challenges popped up, Dan was present to help come up with the best solution to the problem. Often I was even unaware that there was a problem. For example, the kitchen floor was very uneven and it was a problem to put down the tile on the floor and have it look perfect. Somehow they came up with the solution that all the tile looks inline and even. The painter did an amazing job. He made suggestions along the way that improved the finished look. The last week of the renovation Dan and his employees went over everything to insure that nothing was left undone or needed improvement. Dan proved to be a perfectionist which is what you want. DO's: -Know exactly what you want done in your renovation before you even meet with a contractor. Make a list. -When you sign the contract, review what services are covered under the listed price and what will be extra. For example, plumbing and electric were extra expenses for me. - Ask your contractor to help you make a list of the supplies you need to buy for the renovation and to prioritize them. Order these items immediately so you have plenty of lead time for the vendors to order them and get them in. Most of the vendors will gladly store the items until you need them. This is a very important step. By doing this all at one time, you have a better idea of what you are spending and how every purchase fits into your budget, plus there is no down time waiting for your cabinets or cabinet/door handles to arrive. I strung out my purchases over a period of time and went over budget because of this. For example, I would have chosen cheaper tile for the kitchen instead of the expensive tile that I went with. Also, because I took so long in ordering the kitchen cabinet hardware I am still waiting for some of the door knobs to be delivered since they are backordered. -The contractor will give you a list of recommended vendors. Use this list because these vendors usually give you a contractor's discount which really helps to save money. -When ordering cabinets, flooring, bathroom and kitchen fixtures, etc, ask what is included and what you will need to buy extra. For example, I ordered cabinets but because of my inexperience I did not even think to order cabinet hardware until much later. -If you have a decorator clarify with them exactly the services they will provide. I was inexperienced and just assumed my decorator would miraculously make all the decisions and purchases for me. This was not the case, which added more stress to my life. First priority with the decorator is to pick out the colors you are going to use and where these colors are going. The contractor needs to know what paint you want, the color of the wood floor, and the tile you are going to use. -Have someone on site at the rennovation every day that work is going on. I did leave during the day for other commitments but I was there in the morning to see what was being done that day and to review what was done at the end of the day. I was also available when questions arose. -Never hesitate to speak up, ask for changes, express concerns, and ask for suggestions. The site manager should be your best friend during the renovation. That being said, do not hover or be too demanding. Let the pro's do their job. -Finally relax as much as you can. The renovation process is painful and disruptive to you life. Try to keep everything in perspective and make the process as stress free as possible

The process went fine. Dirk was polite, professional, and helpful in areas that went beyond the scope of just providing a remodel plan. He took time to explain things I didn't understand and give me tips about buying materials and hiring contractors. The remodel plan was delivered within 24 hrs.

Company came in took through measurements and provided advice for kitchen makeover, inc design and cost.

The entire project went according to plan. Deadlines were met and crew were nice. When we want to do another project, Budget Right will be my first call.

Just as expected. Prompt call-back to set the appointment. Dirk arrived on time and went straight to work. He included us in his thinking and plannning. Was very attentive to our needs and limits. Plans arrived promptly.

This was a positive experience. Punctual. Gave us all the information we needed for the remodeling of the kitchen except price. Sent the proposed drawing of the cabinets.

We had the design within 48 hours.

Went very well. We just haven't decided yet what we'll do or when. We are very pleased with his work.

The gentleman came out promptly and was honest and patient with answering our questions. I would reccomend this company.

Did a good job communicating and showing up on time. Went through the process and emailed plans the same day.

Dirk provided a good starting point for our kitchen remodel.

Great ideas and designs - just could not afford his price!

Plans were submitted to us very quickly. We opted not to pursue the kitchen project with this company.

Dirk sent out an electrician and a flooring rep. Those bids came in quickly and we have hired Budget Right Kitchens to do the remodeling. At this point, we are very satisfied with everyone we've met who will be doing the work.

He was very helpful, informative and prompt. It was a good service .

This went very well. We had some esitmates done after this and may go with Budget Right for the remodeling job.

We discussed the design for my kitchen. He came up with an idea that I told him wasn't workable. He drew that up the plans in the way that he wanted anyway. I didn't use his services any further than that.
