Ed Scwartz, company representative, came in for the quote and inspection. He showed me the mold on my paper backed insulation and explained what he'd have to do to remove it, and treat the other "black" areas on the wood in my attic. He also helped me with removing a whole house fan, which I also suspected was a culprit of heat loss causing the condensation in my attic. He helped me regulate an attic fan I had installed two years earlier that I didn't know could "dehumidify". When I signed the contract, I thought $2400 was pricey, but I had researched that depending on the extensiveness of the job, it could cost anywhere from $600 to $30,000. Nowhere in the contract did it describe waiver of liability to ceiling damage caused by the company. I understood by getting the whole house fan removed, that it would cost me at least $400 from a drywall contractor I have been using to remodel my home, to fix the hole in the ceiling from which the whole house fan was removed. But there was extensive damage to the ceiling involving the entire hallway and two bedrooms which needed to be fixed, ending up costing me over $1000 to repair. I sent pictures of the fractured ceilings to Mr. Schwartz and asked him if he'd be willing to buck up a couple hundred dollars to help me fix the damage since it was caused by him, and I felt didn't need to be so extensive. He agreed, but after sending him the pictures, attempting to call him twice, email him 3 times in the last two weeks, I've received no response, and his emails come back returned to me as MAILER DAEMON undeliverable. I feel that if he can respond to me immediately to get the job, then he should have the integrity to call me back, or send me a check to rectify this situation, and I do not believe that will happen. I would not recommend his services in the future because of his business "flight" ethics. He is a good talker and money taker, but to make sure the job has met the levels of satisfaction any consumer deserves, the practice is lacking.
Description of Work: I've had a history of poor air circulation in my attic and water damage on ceiling and exterior walls during cold weather months. I felt I probably had mold in my attic because I noticed black spots on wood and we had been chronically ill. One company I'd used in the past was not qualified to remove the mold, so I searched online and through ServiceMagic.com was contacted by 3 different companies that were supposed to be qualified to remove mold and restore dryness to my attic. D&E Carpet Specialists and Mold Remediation Inc sounded like they knew exactly what my problem was and how to fix it (unlike the other referrals who were too far away to service me or stated I needed a plumber!)
