Great! Terry did an excellent job assessing the problem and possible causes, laying out different courses of action and likely costs for each path to fix it. Turned out to be a relatively easy fix (new washer and packing) and he got done quicker than I anticipated. We were both relieved that worked and didn't have to solder in a new faucet connection in impossibly tight space in the basement. Terry was very nice and knowledgeable, did a great job explaining everything, and doing the work.

They did a good job and at a price significantly lower than our regular plumber quoted (Santucci). They only replaced pipe to where the old clay pipe cracked, about half way to the main sewer line. They pressed hard to finish the job for another $5000 but I thought I would wait to get a 2nd opinion. I eventually had the remainder of the pipe relined and saved over $1000 (Clear Pipe).

Description of Work: Unclogged the main sewer line without digging up the yard. They rodded all of the drains and went through the chimney or the stack to clear the clog in the main sewer line. Rodded the pcv pipes and a camera no charge.

They are good. The only problem is they are expensive. They did a nice job on the hot water heater and the price for the hot water heater was on par with what we would have paid. We priced them out and what had happened was with some flooding, the water got blast up in there so we had to replace it because it was completely smashed.

Ravinia was by far the best of the plumbers that came out to evaluate my issue. They took the most time looking at what was wrong and what needed to be done to fix it. They took the most time explaining to me what was wrong in non-technical terms in a manner that I could actually understand it. They spent the most time working out a way to solve the issues without going through tile. All of the other companies quoted higher prices and a workplan that was going to require breaking through tile in my master bathroom. Bottom line, I paid $220 for troubleshooting and have agreed to pay but have not yet received a bill for $5300, but the next cheapest quote would have been $5800 and have gone through tile, requiring a bathroom remodel afterwards instead of just drywall repair. Plus everyone was on-time, polite, spoke English and cleaned up after themselves. Needless to say, I was very happy I used them.
Description of Work: I had a two-man shop plumber come out and do some work, and he identified a different issue that was far more substantial regarding pipes that were put in using the wrong fittings, sloped at the wrong angle,of the wrong dimension and without a vent. I decided to get some additional quotes and confirmations regarding that work. Each plumber agreed there was a problem, but gave me a slightly different explanation of the problem and what they would do. Ravinia was one of several that provided quotes.

The service was good and they were responsive. A plumber Ray and his help spent about 2-2.5 hours working and got it cleared. Problem is the price. For 2 hours of work they wanted $1300. They justified it by claiming that they couldn't unclog it from the clean out and had to try it from 3 different locations to rod it 135ft. They also added an extra $600 charge for rodding it from the roof (it is a 1 story ranch with a very gentle slope roof). My thoughts is that if they they picked the wrong spot to start it was their mistake and I shouldn't have to pay for their miscalculations. All the locations of their attempts were in the same stack, so it's not like the different attempts cleared different clogs. If they needed to go from the roof and add in the surcharge there, then they shouldn't charge me for trying on the ground. Anyhow, $1300 for 2 hours or so of work seems excessive. Seems like they are charge me a zip code tax. Will never use again.
Description of Work: Had sewer clogged and they come out to rod the main.

Response from Ravinia Plumbing, Sewer, Heating & Electric
The description that the property owner is describing is inaccurate. For starters, the property owner was not present and had no conversations with our technicians nor his tenant during our service work. The tenant is responsible for all maintenance work and all of our conversations were with the tenant. Our technician started by checking the outside cleanout with our sewer camera for several reasons; 1. To see if that portion of the sewer is holding water, and if so that line would need to be cleared; 2. To see if we can see the connection from the master bath branch line; 3. To see how much cable we would have to insert into the branch and main lines to clear the sewer without getting the cables stuck in the city sewer. Our technician found that while that portion of the sewer was not holding water, it was full of roots, so full in fact that he was unable to push the camera head more than 50' into the sewer. He showed the tenant the video inspection, quoted prices to clear the roots from that portion of the sewer, the tenant wanted us to perform that work, which we did after solving the sewer back-up that we were originally called out for. Had our technician not have been thorough in his diagnosis, it would have resulted in a future sewer back-up. Our technician investigated the drains in the master bath and determined that he had three options for clearing the stoppage. 1. He could rod from the overhead sewer in the basement but to do so you have to remove the clean-out cap which will allow all of the sewerage in the line above to spill into the basement making a huge smelly mess; 2. Pull the toilet in the master bathroom and rod from the closet collar, which is done only as a last resort because when the sewer cables spin, they will splatter sewerage onto the walls and the cable spinning out of the back side of the machine can damage the flooring in the house; 3. Clear the sewer from the vent stack on the roof. No matter which option you choose, you always need a second person to either help drain the sewer, prevent the cables from damaging the floor inside the house or to hoist and lower the equipment to and from the roof. We quoted a price to rod from the roof before performing any work. The tenant agreed, we performed all of our work successfully and cleaned up after ourselves. By the end of the call, the total amount of time that both technicians had including travel was 6.25 hours. The total price of the job not only has to cover all of our labor but there is an equipment cost built into our sewer rodding prices because not only is that equipment very expensive (a sewer camera, monitor and locator cost $15,000.00 and a sewer rodding machine with cables and cutters costs $2,800.00) the sewer camera requires about $2,000.00 of annual maintenance and the operation of the sewer machine costs another $1,000.00 on average for replacement cables, cutters and parts as they slowly wear out on every job. I realize that what we are doing may seem simple to someone that does not know anything about our work. You can see by the brief description of what we had to do on this one job, the work is complicated, time consuming, and expensive. At the end of the day, the facts are that we found several problems with the sewers and drains in the house, quoted prices up front before starting any work, the customer agreed to all of our prices, we did what we said we would do for the price that we quoted. Also the owner forgot to mention that we reduced our price when he called to complain, not because we did anything wrong, but for the sake of customer satisfaction.

Our lawn mover broke the attachment to the top of the sewer riser. The actual part ( a 6" PVC clean out cap) was $18 at Home Depot. The cost of replacing the part and labor for 20 minutes of work was $337.00 We will never use them again. Their costs have become outrageous! They do not work by the hour anymore, only set prices.

When our technician arrived, he found that someone had tried to replace the cap with the wrong type. Instead of getting the correct cap, they tried to melt the adapter and in so doing, ruined the adapter. Once we determined what parts were needed for a proper repair, our technician drove to our warehouse to get the correct parts, and returned to make the repair. We cut back the sod so the customer would not have to re-plant new grass, excavated about 1.5’ deep around the clean out riser pipe, cut down the pipe to lower the clean out, installed a new coupling and a shorter riser, installed the new clean-out adapter and clean out cap. We backfilled the hole and put the sod back in place. Now the cap is lower so it will not be broken every time someone runs over it with a mower. The total amount of time on the job was 1.75 hours plus around $50 in materials. The day after our successful repair, Mr. called asking about the repair cost. I explained what we had to do (as outlined above). Mr. told me he knew the job entailed more work because he saw that we had to dig around the old clean-out. He told me at the time of our conversation that he understood that it took more time and materials than what he originally thought. I’m not sure if Mrs. talked with Mr. about the repair since it appears that Mrs. filled out the erroneous review. Had the customer called a professional to begin with, the repair would have been simple and the cost inexpensive (the $18.00 cap and 20 minutes as Mrs. described). The customer should have given a poor review to the person who screwed up this repair and praised us for making it right.

I've worked with Eric (Erik) for years as my plumber, so I was happy to see him again. He has so much experience, immediately diagnosed the problems, and sent out for another truck to bring him the correct parts/tool to fix the water heater piping so he could get it all done quickly. He's a great guy, very personable, professional and I have dealt with Mahoney and now Mahoney/Ravinia on a variety of things over the years. They are not the least expensive, for sure, but I'd recommend them to anyone without a doubt. Quality work. Thanks to all of you, and Eric!!

Ravinia Plumbing did a great job. They did show up outside of the arrival window they gave us. I understand they can't control how other house calls will go. A quick phone call to update us would have been appreciated. (They did call but after the arrival window was over.) Otherwise, they performed all the duties requested and we are very happy with the work done. We would hire them again and likely will for future repairs/maintenance.

They came to my house that I am renting in Deerfield. They said they will come in the morning but actually called my renter that they will not be able to come out until later which was disappointing because this was an emergency. They removed the roots and they were very polite over the phone. My renter was very satisfied but I thought the price was too much for the root removal. Otherwise, I would use them again if necessary.

Have been using Ravinia for all my HVAC for years. In this instance, we replaced the evaporator coil and installed the UV lights because there was a mold concern and high sensitivity. Ravinia went out of their way to squeeze me in to accommodate my health issue. When the air quality professional was concerned about the VOCs and felt they could be attributed to UV light casing, David the owner made it a point to get the person familiar with my system out to my house and followed the air quality specialist's suggestion.
Description of Work: Replaced evaporator coil and installed UV lights. When environmental air quality professional found VOCs coming out of vent when AC was on, came back and rinsed down as suggested by air quality specialist.
