Description of Work: We have used Mahoney Plumbing for 6 years to attend to all of our heating and plumbing needs. This family-run business is top-notch in terms of responsiveness, competence, and timely performance. Our house was in need of complete overhaul when we moved in, and this plumbing company tending to its every heating and plumbing need. Peg Mahoney is my first call when anything major happens. Last summer, when heavy rains caused the Highland Park sewers in the Braeside area to back up, Peg referred me to a disaster control company and did all plumbing associated with the ensuing bathroom remodeling. This old house has had its share of plumbing and heating issues. In emergency situations, we have always gotten immediate attention. Most recently, the humidifier on the furnace fell and shattered. I called the emergency line when I got home from work and an HVAC person came within the hour. He made sure everything was safe for the night, capping frayed wires. First thing the next morning, another person came with the replacement humidifier. We have replaced the water heater, gutter pipes and air conditioning unit with them as well. We have also installed complex systems in our crawl space. Dan Mahoney is gifted with an analytical mind and has figured out the best solutions for us in more situations than I care to remember. Ultimately, I can't say enough about the well-run office. Katey Mahoney and Suzanne are wonderful to work with. Every member of the Mahoney team is expertly trained to deal with your heating and plumbing needs.

+ -1 moreThey reassembled the faucet that I tried to fix myself. The price was not proportional to the amount of time it took them to perform the service. There was an initial fee on top of the hourly fee and this did not include the equipment that I purchased on my own. However, the service they provided was high quality, they seemed knowledgable, they responded quickly (within an hour or so) they were punctual and very professional. The only issue I found was that I did not expect the price to be so high for the amount of time it took to perform the service. I do understand that it was my responsibility to check rates ahead of time and wish that Ravinia Plumbing & Heating/DiPietro would have taken the initiative to discuss these rates with me before I made a commitment.

+ 1 moreOur house bathtub began to s*** back sewage water. It was diagnosed that the oak trees lining our front lawn developed root systems that would get into the house's lateral sewer pipeline which carried out sanitary water to the main sewers on the street. Technicians Terry and Derek were consummate professionals. Our house Was multiproblematic, in that we had buried the outside clean out with a landscape refurbishment and forgot its location, the line was already stopped, and our toilet was cracked and blocked access! Derek called Terry in for a consult, because Terry had seen our house in 2004, over 7 years ago. After he and his partner dug and dug to find the clean out, they called a coworker to bring in a camera and a detector to try to find the buried clean out. However, the line being plugged and filled with water made its location still a mystery. They then were able to carefully remove the cracked toilet (caused by an uneven chipped tile floor) and proceeded to rod inside the house- using up to nine 20 foot rods to clear the blockage. They then put a tracer dye in the water and followed its path to the street main by removing the manhole cover to inspect it, followed by a quick cleanup. Through all this labor intensive work, they even took time out to explain what they were doing, so I could better understand! Terry and Derek are a good team and did a thorough repair. Thank you for your help in resolving our household emergency!

+ 3 moreWe just moved into a new house and were recommended to get the plumbing scoped. We had Ravinia come and scope the plumbing out to the main and provide any quotes if they found anything. Ray was great. He provided a quote with the issue found and provided information about our current setup. With the quote he was not pushy but just said we could call to schedule it if we wanted it done at any time. We did have them fix the issue found (sheared pipe to the main) and they did a great job! We've now worked with Ravinia plumbing 2 other times and they've been great to work with each time. The last visit was to remove our water softener, we also found out we couldn't light the pilot on our water heater. They had replaced the thermocouple for us 2-3 weeks before. John replaced it a second time, even though it wasn't on the current job list, and said it was covered under the warranty. No issues at all just got our water heater working again and let us know what would be needed if it happened again.
Description of Work: Camera inspection of the sewer and a quote to fix the issue found. 2nd visit involved fixing the sheared sewer pipe next to the foundation that was sinking. Also had them come to fix water heater and remove water softener.

+ -1 moreThey completely re-did the shower to fix the liner. This also required re-tiling the entire area. The shower is leaking again in the same manner and they refuse to make good on their original work. The tile person they subcontracted with cut a piece of marble inside the house and made a terrible mess. He also left a tremendous amount of grout in the drain. The shower is not squared properly so in addition to the leaking threshold, water runs out of the shower doors. We are extremely unhappy both with the work and the fact that they won't stand by it. We wouldn't recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: Master shower leaked. They removed all the tile and constructed a new liner. Then they re-tiled the entire area and replaced the shower doors.

Description of Work: After talking to other people in my neighborhood I had to re- rate this company based on the very HIGH price the charged for 2.5 hours of work. That price is outrageous and way over the normal charge a plumbing company should be charging. I have asked for a refund on part of that amount but don't know if they will respond. I picked them because of Angie's List and I liked the name of the company. I didn't expect to be cheated.

+ -1 moreTodd from Ravinia, came out and understood the issues and proposed a solution that made perfect sense to me. The price was very good - better than an other quote I got. The installer Nick did a great job, and followed up with some minor adjustments and fixes. The home has been performing perfectly during heating season. Based on this I have signed up for the home care program for yearly maintenance. I have also used them for plumbing repairs now and they are great at that too.
Description of Work: Fixed problems with HVAC in a home addition. Ripped out some old duct-work and added new ductwork, and controls.

Arrived on time with a pre-call 30 minutes ahead from office that plumber was on way. That's nice - not enough service firms do that. Explained all work and anticipated charges. Pleasant, professional. Chuck tarped all work areas. worked quickly. finished and showed me inspection as camera was going through line. Identified some potential future issues - but did not try to upsell me on additional work as 2 prior plumbers had done. Showed me how things could be kept working without spending $5k to do it.

He reviewed the 36 page inspection report to ensure he was addressing all of our concerns, he viewed video tapes of the underground pipes and communicated constantly with us. All in all, he thoughtfulness, his explanations were very helpful. In addition to our interactions with him, we dealt often with the office and they too were very helpful. In the end he provided us with a really well planned process to remedy the problem and the associated pricing.
Description of Work: We called Mahoney to review our plumbing lines based on an inspection report and leaks that were visible. The house is 86 years old and had a very complicated plumbing system.

I have used MaHoney before for plumbing work (excellent work). The thermostat installation was a carry over from a routine fall heating system check. I wanted to update our thermostat which was 25 years old. The new thermostat was "state of the art" and VERY expensive. I have to admit the total cost was higher than I anticipated since the unit was around $220.00...the balance covered the service call for installation. Obviously, you get what you pay for.

He told me what the problems were, what we could rule out, fixed the problems efficiently, and told me what to do to maintain things in working order. It was very helpful to have one technician who can fix ovens, plumbing, and even A/C, and their initial service call is only $59. I will definitely use them again!
Description of Work: Ravinia came out to look at our oven which was not heating properly and our garbage disposal which was making strange noises. They replaced an igniter in the oven, cleaned out the disposal, and fixed drain water collecting in the dishwasher as well.

The problem with out air conditioner did not get resolved and then they would have the electricians come out and say ithat was not the problem. but we are still have this issue where the air conditioner tries to start and sometimes it can't so it trips the breaker

+ 0 moreToilet was all of the sudden leaking heavily from the back when flushed and we couldn't see what the problem was so I shut off the water to prevent further leaking. Toilet had not been used for several days when technician from Ravinia came and when he turned the water back on and flushed he couldn't reproduce the problem. So he moved on to the tub and cleared the hair, etc from the drain and showed me how to do it myself in the future. He was very thorough and helpful.
